  • My brother returns with a more "positive" video. This time, he shares some easy tips that helped him improve quickly in Street Fighter 6. One of the main ways is simply by playing ranked. Even if you're a beginner, matching up against opponents who are your level will quickly show what you need to work on. Nobody likes to lose, but that's part of the game. Finding your weaknesses is the key to victory. The last piece of advice is to never stop climbing after you reach your goal.

    The losing part is so important. Ego and fear of losing is what is keeping people from getting better. This was a great video.

      Lately I've been running into a LOT more one-and-done players in Ranked. Finish your sets, people! Quit jealously clinging to your league points. You can't learn anything useful from a single match.

      @@protodevilin I play casual as I don't get enough time to play more. But casual I can play against the same opponent many times. I can beat them 3 games ahead and then they start adjusting to my style and then start beating me. I learn the most from the adjustments against me.

      Sometimes it ends up being ranked anxiety. It's not the fear of losing, it's the fear of playing. Dealing with it. Winning willebe as frustrating as losing.

    One piece of advice that I feel is always missing in videos like these is to also look at what you did well. When I watch my replays, yes, I look for stuff I can improve on, but I also cheer for myself and celebrate the stuff I did really well, like reacting to a DI in time, making a correct read on a throw attempt or a whiff, and also telling myself "That was f*ing amazing!" (or whatever comes to mind in that moment) 😊 Helps me a lot with motivation, to acknowledge where I did well and where I see improvements in my playstyle over time

    So I'm Master Rank and hovering right around 1500 atm, played probably about 100 games since the MR system came out. Yesterday, I decided to go to a small, local tournament, as I don't have a local scene in my city but rather it's around 45 minutes away. Anyway, round 2 of the tourney I ended up against NuckleDu himself...and I competed with him well! I took a round and I was one guess from getting a game off him. I ended up going a mere 1-2 in the tourney but I had a great time and got to play on stream with the crowd and my friends and family cheering me on. Looking back, I can definitely see areas where I made mistakes and plenty of room for improvement, but I'm really glad I've pushed myself to get this far. Leveling up is one hell of a learning experience, and it's honestly more learning about yourself than it is the game. You learn how to overcome challenges, your own negative emotions from losses, simultaneously keeping your self esteem up and your ego in check. It's a seemingly endless road but definitely worth it imo.

    I’m so glad I do most of these tips already, because back in SFV I didn’t, and I was stuck in bronze the entire time.
    I’m obviously not the best player in the world and I know SF6’s ranks are jacked to all hell, but I’m midway through Plat right now and I’m holding my own against diamond players in battle hub, something that would’ve never happened back when I played SFV regularly.
    I like to think that because I do the things mentioned in this video, that I’m actually improving a ton as a player and seeing my rank go up (or even down) as a sign of progress really adds to the rewarding feeling

      That's great to know. It's important you're still having fun and improving at the same time. Don't worry about the ranked system being weird in SF6 because once you get Master, it becomes a lot more challenging, so keep up that grind.

  • @kosmast3r
    @kosmast3r Рік тому +5

    Great advice! I would barely stay in super bronze in SFV because I just didn’t want to play ranked while losing (and learning). With 6, I’m approaching platinum 5 because of simply grinding ranked more and learning from my wins/losses.
    I definitely needed to hear that part about sticking with a ranked session for longer. While I don’t dip out after a few losses, I still get (unnecessarily) scared of deranking alter hitting a new rank. It’s such a silly worry but I always fall for it in the moment.

    Good advice except the part about not stopping at a certain goal.
    SF isn't your job it's a hobby for leisure. It's totally your right to decide what your own goals are and what "success" looks like for you. We all have finite life so it's actually healthy to consider how we want to spend it

    • @Rationalific
      @Rationalific Рік тому +5

      I agree with you. Some people will have SF6 be their game to play for the next few years, and will dedicate large percentages of their free time to it. And that's okay. But I think most people (me included) just play occasionally, and in addition to other games, and have other activities to do in our free time, so I also think it's okay to reach a goal and rest. I would just say not to be too scared of losing that rank if you put the game down for a few months and come back to it. I wouldn't just get to a rank and then stop forever to chisel that rank in stone for all time, as that's not as fun as playing more casually but losing that ranking, in my opinion. Personally, I don't have a particular goal because I'm more casually into it and I don't want to have to stress over rank and stats and such, but then again, this video is also geared more towards those who are really trying to improve, so I also kind of understand where that advice is coming from...

    • @VesperArcade

      Let us be more clear. If you want to continue to improve you can't "stop" at a point where you're afraid you'll start losing. A lot of players plateau because of this. You're taking this a little to literally lol. Have fun and play at your own pace but don't build walls for yourself at the first sight of a challenge.

    The problem with rank is that it is region locked, so in my case I keep getting matched with the same few people again and again, I am not learning anything they do the same things every match.

    • @MrBones105
      @MrBones105 Рік тому

      I think it’s not a problem when you’re getting matched with good players who actually adapt. Then it’s a lot of fun - it becomes very much about the mental game. But when you play against someone who has a total cheese/flowchart strategy, it’s really discouraging. I honestly just close the game at that point and play something else for a while so they can get matched with someone else lol.

      What you can do is temp block that player and the matchmaking net will grow a bit. Then unblock that player when you're done for the night. Seems to be the solution for now.

Watching this video was a good reminder for me to remember that it's okay to have doubts or not-so-strong sessions, but I can and should press on like everyone else.

    I can admit I used to be one of those people who was absolutely terrified of losing or playing against stronger players because I didn't think it'd get me anywhere but if anything it's the opposite. Challenging yourself is one of the best things you can do and will eventually make you better. What's the point in smurfing in ranks that you know you're well past or just ducking competition? It doesn't make you better. It just hinders you.

    Something important to do is also not to focus too much on being "The best". We will never be "the best", because there will always be someone above us somewhere; and this is liberating.
    A lot of people think that Rank is essential and is something that defines us as players, but that's a lie. The idea of fun disappears in this speech and we are focused on just leveling up and forget that not always playing well will make us level up... Sometimes your mood gets in the way, your day gets in the way, the wind interferes and it's okay to let it go for a few hours or a few days.
    I, slowly, am going up and learning a lot. But whenever I find myself being too critical of myself even when I'm ranking I stop playing and go to casual. Then I learn from the mistakes, I have fun and remember that, yes, it's just a game... And since my last comment here on the channel (when I was stuck at Platinum level 02), I've already managed to go up a little more and I'm in Platinum 04 (almost 05).
    Fun fact: playing in the casual I always face Diamonds level 02, 03 and even Masters and, oddly enough I've already won many of them. Likewise, the other day, a Ryu Rookie gave me a beating. It's life.

    Thank you for the video, this gave me a boost of confidence in not only this game but other games. I have this sense of anxiety when playing in ranked that everything goes out the window for me. I get frustrated but I learn that losing is more of a lesson(s) for me to see what I need to improve on.
    Believe or not this is my first Street Fighter. I grew up more around 3D era fighting like Tekken,Virtua, and Soul Calibur. It took a lot of getting used to the mechanics, movements, and intricacies of the characters. However, I am loving every moment; I have yet to step into rank or battle hub because World Tour has got me hooked lol.
    So once again thank you for taking the time to teach all of us how to improve. My top 3 characters would be
    1. Juri (I studied Tae Kwon Do so my eyes went straight to her)
    2.Jamie ( he got some funky sets up and a good character to practice in lab especially with the drink mechanic)
    3.Kimberly ( I love speed, in your face characters and who dont love Ninjas)
    If anyone is reading this lengthly post lol. I am on PlayStation 4 (still saving up for PS5) my gamertag is AS_Alchemist.

    Ryu player. Qualified in Silver - ranked up to Plat 2 pretty quick then stalled. I got there entirely off of Ryu fundamentals with AA and fireballs and then struggled because I was basically playing SFV in SF6 and dropping so many combos as a result. Not being able to combo sMP into crHP got me killed so much and getting it out of my muscle memory was hard. I've spent the last couple of weeks in the lab and battle lounges with friends and I feel like I've finally started playing this game not the old one so maybe I might start trying to grind upwards again.

If it was first to 2 you’d never learn and adapt, but most players in my region will go first to 5, 10 or even 20.
    i stopped ranked at platinum Juri because i get so much more out of these matches in casual/BH. This week i played a master cammy. i took the first game, got downloaded and lost the next 9 but they weren’t free. i now have 10 replays to run back to do exactly as you guys said- i can see all my mistakes and fundamental flaws.

      SF6 is not my game but this goes for any game with a ranked system. You don't improve by playing people below your level and the casual modes generally match you against worse players more often where ranked modes pit you against same skill or better players
      The problem is that worse players don't check you on things better players will check you on. You don't encounter defense you can't break or better pressure etc. You'd be a lot farther if you just practiced rank and try to learn where you mess up than stomp noobs in battle hub. Your mentality is very common and it's present in most games, people can't deal with the pressure of ranked and invent for themselves casual modes is where the real challenge is at! You didn't go that far, but some people will legitimately claim the scrubs they play in casual modes are better than the people in ranked lol. Seen this in so many fighting games, crazy

      @@Bladieblah i would agree with you but this game is a little different.
      in casuals my win rate is about 45%. my last run in ranked to hit platinum was 70%. in general, i think casuals are harder than people in ranked at my skill at least in my region with a big player base in North East US. i’m by no means having an easy time. i’m not running over anyone and i feel like i’m finally learning match ups and getting past bad habits.
      i’ll definitely jump back into ranked but casuals/BH is an excellent place to learn/fail in this game.

    TLDR; 2 days ago I watched this. I have incredibly annoying ranked anxiety. Stops me from playing any online matches, period. Since the games release, I played the placement matches, over the course of about a week. That's how infrequently I'm able to force myself into playing online. Since my placement matches, (it put me in plat 4) I've probably played 1 game. When I see a video like this telling me to just get over it and play I get confident that I can do just that. However it's been two days already of finding excuses not to play. Like, I WANT to play, and I want to want to play, but I just fucking hate losing to the point I think I actually take it personally lol. everyone is a scrub and I'm the best there is (clearly by my platinum placement lol) so why, how did I lose? I know how delusional this sounds but that's my frame of mind. One loss and I hate the game. If I was a streamer, I would probably be worse than LTG and DSP combined. HOW DO I GET OVER THIS and just enjoy the fucking game? I've installed mods that hide my LP, rank, win streaks and rank ups, I've made alternate accounts to disassociate from my main account (as if it fucking matters, I literally don't know a single person in my real life who plays this game) but I still sit down to play and end up in training mode for 2 hours before turning it off. Help 😭

      Still more respectable than people who just play battlehub/casual mode and try to convince themselves it's better practice.
      That is also one way to get over the ranked anxiety, and how most people seem to deal with it. Convince yourself ranked isn't that important and casual matches are where it's at!

  • @Rationalific
    @Rationalific Рік тому

    I'm a "casual", and I feel liberated that I don't care about rank. I'm in silver with most characters (gold in a couple and bronze in a couple as well). (I love that each character can have a different rank, because it makes me more likely to play as characters that I normally wouldn't play as.) I like ranked because I can play those around my level. I don't want to play Platinum or Diamond players, because the match will be one-sided in their favor. If I do put more time into training, maybe I'll get there, but in the end, no matter which rank I am, my opponents in ranked mode should be somewhere around my level. So I think I can always have fun, as long as matchmaking is good. Some people (at least in games that allow it) will "rage quit" ranked matches just so they can get a higher rank. I don't understand it. If you are in bronze and are playing platinum players, you won't have fun, even if you see a "Platinum" icon and a lot of points on your profile. Those kinds of people (also called cheaters) care more about their profile than actually having fun, and that's kind of pathetic. (Thankfully, I haven't met a rage quitter in SF6, even though I have around a 50% win rate...which actually should be the case for almost all players in ranked mode fighting against others of around the same skill level.) Either legitimately try to get better, or happily accept your rank and just have fun casually. Anyway, that's my advice.

    My advice is to play players at you level and watch players better than you.
    Its amazing the number of small tricks and strats that you get from watching someone really good with your character.
    Even if i can't do exactly what i see i try to adapt it and find an easier version.

    In my case, I reached master with Cammy in two different accounts, I'm mid diamond on the road to master with Ryu if possible, worked to diamond with Manon too. Also classified straight diamond with Chun Li and Dee Jay. My status is irrelevant, I don't regard myself good at all, there are tons of players smashing me, but I want to share also my perspective if it contributes to help anyone too to trust themselves. Back in SFV I got to diamond with Cammy in several accounts. But as I reached there my win ratio dropped a lot. So I centered myself in casuals trying to improve that ratio. I played mainly a single character. To the end of the game I started using and ranking other characters I liked. And I did notice a change when I fighted these characters later. I won't say I always won against them, but I understood better certain patterns and counter actions to them. Also if they were safe, punishable or I was susceptible of being tricked (such as eating an EX DP after a +2oB in my favour). Now in SF6 I played ranked with my main no matter what and I got master twice, just to check if it was real or luck. When I reached master I did not play any more, and switched to next character I like. The idea is the same if possible. Then getting under the skin even of those that give me the most trouble and rank them to a decent level. For example I lost a lot against Dee Jay. I decided to train with him a couple of sessions, I understood some of his okizeme, combos (simple ones doing insane damage) and positive on block moves. I did positioning and I got diamond directly. Obviously more knowledge is needed, but when I now fight him I understand better what they do (not everything ofc). And if I should respect them or not.

    Losing is a part of the game, and learning from losing makes you stronger.
    Important tip, especially for newbies who are worried about their points/ranks, is that you can't get ranked down from Iron to Rookie, from Bronze to Iron etc, that ends when you rank up from Gold to Plat. You can lose levels/stars within a rank, but Streak Bonuses can happen and boost you quickly. Keep going.
    That said, it's absolutely fine to take a break when you get tilted.

    i'm new to playing street fighter online (started yesterday). i've played the game before but only on arcade mode and versus mode with the cpu. i started off on iron 1 and i'm now on bronze 5 with 4690 lp. i was nearly at gold but then i started losing. one more loss and i'm going back down to bronze 4.
    i play ryu. my playstyle consists of doing crouching medium kick into hadoken, hard shoryuken to anti-air, if i land a drive impact in a corner then i do hard punch into medium hashogeki then i do hard shoryuken, and i do throws. i do ex DPs for wakeup. i build up my meter to level 1 then do a shinku hadoken to try to punish my opponent. most of the time they block it or parry it. sometimes i use it to punish drive impacts and that works. i sometimes throw out drive impacts but my opponent frequently jumps over them, especially in a corner. if they throw out a drive impact at me, i either block it, get hit by it when i'm standing, or i get hit by it when i'm doing a move like crouching medium kick. i just can't react quickly enough to do a counter drive impact. i also don't know how to implement combos into matches, apart from mk into hadoken and the dive impact one i said earlier. losing is really demoralising. i really want to be good at this game. if someone replies to this and gives me advice on how to improve, it'll be really helpful.

    I feel like the intent here is good but the delivery needs tweaking. "Don't be afraid to lose" works; also consider the perspective of "Prioritize goals other than winning": such as hitting certain combos, tech, strategies, stuff you've been practicing or watching. And take time to appreciate your advancements and accomplishments! Always "being hungry" will mean you're never happy with what you just ate.. food for thought

    • @Bladieblah
      @Bladieblah Рік тому

      What exactly is the problem with the delivery? Man is just saying it how it is. Ranked is the place to improve, casual modes are exactly that, casual. I think he literally said don't be afraid to lose, and to not play with a strict play to win mindset and quit after 2-3 losses. I don't see the problem here.
      The real problem is people don't like being told they should grind ranked because they make up all kinds of excuses for why casual modes are better

    I wish the casual matchup has a setting to choose the ranks you want to be matched with. From my Own experience I started Playing rank (totaly failed my placement and started at Rookie) went to Bronze 3 quite quickly but felt stuck there (was loosing most of my fights) so I stopped playing ranked matches during few weeks and only played in training and casual. I eventually figured what I was doing wrong and got the courage to go back to Ranked and holly ..... I went to Silver 1 in less than an hour and Silver 3 in few minutes. I'm not afraid anymore of loosing in ranked

    Sometimes I'll even lose my first set just trying to learn how my opponent plays and then win my next 2 sets.

    Counterpoint to the "don't fear to loose". I just went and got 1 victory out of 10 match this afternoon, lost match to dropping combo out of nowhere or getting super cancel after said combo (damn that buffer). So i called it quits and it's been what, half an hour and i feel a bit dizzy. I think imma gonna go take a nap before i pass out >_>
    As for my rank... i don't really care that much at the moment, i'm trying to put all the cast in platinum to find how everybody works out and who i should main. Some i rank directly in high plat and continue to play for a couple day to a week in battlehub or with friends, other in high gold and need a bit more pushing. Mostly one session though. I can definitively feel the "keep grinding" as gold really ain't a problem to powerthrough should i place a new char a bit lower.
    The goal is to find a main to keep grinding up to diamond/master. I'm a bit surprised as there's 2 characters i never liked playing before that i somehow find fun to play with (Sim and Blanka). I still need to try a bit few more character. I hope i won't find a couple more character i enjoy as it's gonna be troubling to settle on a main if there's 6 characters i want to play seriously.
    If that happens, i guess i'll just have to main the "random" slot and grind it in ranked then ? (i'm joking but managing to rank that thing may be the hardest thing to do no ?)

      I think this is actually an instance where playing casual matches can be beneficial. Casual is a good place to do really specific practice. Play some matches where your literal only focus mentally is reacting to DI. Don’t devote mental resources to anything else if you can. Also make sure you’re not using too many moves in neutral that can’t be cancelled into DI. Your reaction time means nothing if you’re in the middle of a move that you can’t cancel.

    • @VesperArcade
      @VesperArcade  Рік тому

      I have a few guides on DI now to help deal with it. It's more about playing around it than reacting to it. I think the level 7 Ryu CPU uses DI a ton. See if that helps.
