The 90's was a special decade in music, perhaps the last special decade where so much was played on the airwaves. Unlike the past 13-15 years where most if not all pop music is written by a handful of songwriters and has a same-y quality, the 90's had a spectrum of various styles and music groups that had some things in common but were more distinct than they were similar. If you had to pick just a few songs to define the first half of the 90's, this is it, along with Enter Sandman and Smells Like Teen Spirit. I say this because I lived through it and you could always find those songs playing somewhere, whether it was on MTV, at the Mall, boating on the lake, or at Tower Records.
