That is so cool to see! The econo Chevy Nova we had in the States was totally different. It was more of a square sedan thing. It looked just like a Pontiac that was out at the time. Over here, we could not believe the Nova went from a cheap muscle car (placed under the Chevelle) to an ecoco box!

I drove a Shove-It once. I couldn't believe that a 1.3 could be pretty much out of puff at 60mph. It honestly felt like a step up when I jumped into a Hillman Avenger which was quite a lot older. But we all have soft spots for different cars of our youth and I like to see people driving ordinary cars of the time. Anyone with a big enough cheque book car drive an expensive Triumph Stag convertible, but the cars I really appreciate are the Chevettes, Avengers, Sunbeams and the likes.

Love the temp fuel, like a drip in a patient! I worked in the car business in 1989/1990, attached to a Vauxhall garage, the Nova was a little beauty, the GSE was up there with XR2's, and i drove the new 1.5TDI Nova which was like a rocket!!! Such a good car!

Loved that drive around at the end Ben, we see a lot of fettling on your videos so it's great to see some external shots with these beauties on the move, great camera work, the engine sounded so sweet. I'm sure seeing it on the move, living and breathing hydrocarbons flying, rust falling, chassis dissipating, must have given the owners' son a smile. 😍 Wow almost a third of century later and Ben brings the old girl back to life! Oh well, I was looking forward to that road trip down to the south of France.

Aww, what a shame, looked a lovely little car too. Back in the 90's my aunt had a MKII Nova. When she went abroad to work she left it in her garage and it was my job to periodically drive in in and out. This was a few years before I [properly] learnt to drive, so she was brave! She did promise me that when she got home I could have it. In the end she sold it to someone else and I was properly gutted. She then promised me she'd buy me another car. It took her until 2009 to keep that promise! It worked out for me in the end as, without her buying it, I wouldn't have my gorgeous MKIV Polo, a car you'd have to pry from my cold, dead hands! I'd have loved to have shown you it at Rustival, maybe next year?

Such a nice little Corsa that one. I remember my friend's dad had one of those in brown in immaculate condition. I remember it had a 4-speed manual transmission, and it was revving like mad. Sadly, it was about 10 years ago, and those cars back then weren't sought after at all; I remember it got sold for scrap. It's a shame that the previous owner left it to rot for over 20 years; I could've brought so much joy to someone during all those years.

Crikey, your latest video takes me back. I passed my driving test in a 1.2 Vauxhall NOVA MERIT back in the day 1991. I think you were lucky if there was power steering, and there were definitely no electric windows. The interior is fantastic for its year of manufacture. The old classic cars were great no bings and bongs like the modern cars. But saying that there's no safety evern no air bag. Great memories for me though. My car that I have know evern stops it self.

Over here those were sold as Opel Corsa.
It was big news when the 1.2 got the new OHC engine. Previously, only the 1.0 and 1.3 got that. The 1.2 retained the old side cam, pushrod engine.
Sad to see how rotten they get, when laid up. I had several Opels, over the years and even a Vauxhall (a Chevette) that had Opel branding on lots and lots of parts.
I once lost a trolly jack through the missing spare wheel well, on an Ascona. Those were Cavaliers, in the UK, with a funny snout grafted on where the Opel grille belongs.
Frilly metal was a bit of a recurring theme, for GM in the 1970s and 1980s, even though we didn’t use salt on our roads at that time. I’m astonished any of them survive, over there.

New subscriber and instagram follower here. I've been catching up with the back catalogue of videos as well as the newer ones. I do like your presentation style and you also remind me of me but 30+ years ago. I used to buy and sell old cars as a hobby and to bring a few pennies in. It was the 80s so I'm talking Cortinas, Capris, Granadas, Marinas, Avengers etc. Good times! Its nice to sit back in a comfy armchair now though and watch someone else getting cold, wet and dirty!

My first car was a Nova (D179WVK) and it was mostly filler, fibre glass and bodged in metal before I bought it. By the time it was dragged away by some nice scrap dealers I'd replaced the doors, front wings, boot lid and most of the floors. I never worried about driving the thing anywhere in the country, although always kept a fuel pump in the glovebox as those things just died.

I nearly bought one, a 1.4SR which I was offered at 'mates rates'. But I had just got engaged and She persuaded me to get the 2.2 CDI Carlton at the local garage in stead. Love the older Vauxhall's. Last one being a 3.0 Senator 24 valve.

Impressed you found that AFR screw. On Pierburgs, as well as the outer rubber pipes leaking air, they are very sensitive to diaphragms and other seals surrounding mechanisms like choke pull-down flaps, etc. Very complicated - that's why on the VWs of that era, people mainly chose to replace them with Webers which are simpler in design. There's nothing better than a working Pierburg though. Magic worked, once again... 🙂

Once you've done 100 miles in it and blasted out the last remaining crap, you'll prob have to turn it back down again for HC emissions. Someone may have already fiddled with it for that reason, previously.
