Whenever I try to talk about them I say "budgies" since with different translations from what I understand a lot of species can be called "parakeets" or it translates to long tail? I could be wrong but I'm enjoying learning! Because there are the bigger species that go by names like mustache parakeet, which is definitely different than the small and familiar budgies.
I have to explain this SOOOO often. People also often confuse the general classification of parakeets as a species name for budgies. Sometimes people think parakeets are a species name because of mistranslations but it's also a common misconception even in the unites states.
