I use a cat fountain for my budgie! My cats didnt like the little fountain so i had to get them a BIG one. So my budgie got the little fountain and it only took a month for her to start bathing and playing in it! I have a ladder 🪜 on top of her cage going to the fountain and she is so cute when she does play/bath in it! ❤
ahh that can be a number of reasons. it depends on the shape, size, or just the bird's drive to bathe and familiarity with the item. Most budgies are afraid of new items so if they're not super comfortable going around and accessing stuff without being shown first, we can teach them to approach it and show them standing on it is safe and reinforce any bathing behaviors they offer if the water is on. There's a lot of ways to go about it. FitC's been with me so long she has no hesitation about going straight to anything she finds interesting and Eva is following suit, haha. I did also have a cat fountain but FitC hated it. the shape was very unappealing to them I think. She would try and use it and give up really quickly whereas the sink has really stuck around and become a fan favorite for the lady budgies.
@@TheBudgieAcademy I will keep trying with this fountain… Apple has only seen it a couple of times so maybe i can get her(?) to warm up to it. I have had her close to my kitchen sink before and that was a big no no for her. As a matter of fact anytime I turn on the water she starts loudly squawking…
@@slytherinbuttafly3088 i would need to see a video of it to see the body language of the bird but they will stand alert and squawk and become active and orient towards the object of interest in they're excited about something. It's very possible she hears the water and is very excited but just doesn't know how to access it and in that case we just need to teach it and once she realizes how to access it, the behavior will probably maintain itself without more rewards because the bathing is something she inherently finds enjoyable so it becomes it's own reward. It would be something very common I see among budgies. They want to bathe but they've never been introduced to the space and so they are afraid of it and it's too scary to just risk it and plunge in because it's a vulnerable position to be in and if it's not safe, that's a huge issue. So really it's about teaching them how to access the water and see that it's safe and once they have a system going, it tends to become something they get very excited about. Have you tried gently misting from above and letting it fall down on her? How does she feel about that?
@@slytherinbuttafly3088 wherever she's most comfortable. I point it upwards so that is kind of gently falls down and isn't directly at their face which would be unpleasant. When it's their first time, I"ll try just giving 2-3 sprays overhead and let it fall down and see what they think. If they rush to run away then we might just be coming in at a bad time and they're not in the mood. If they give me a little fluff and shake and rub their face on a branch and seem into it, i'll give maybe 4-5 sprays and see how they feel about that. And I orient it so that they can leave or walk out from under it if they want. We usually aim it in one place and let them walk in and out how they want. It's very common for budgies to kind of run in, shake it out, rub their face on a wet perch and then run off and repeat going back and forth. I find the top of the cage is an easy place if you have a flat cage and that's a place they're super comfortable but inside works too. There's not a specific place but I'm more looking for a place that fits the criteria of them being VERY comfortable there, having the ability to move around freely and we can easily have the water fall gently on them. and of course make sure the spray bottle is a clean one. I get one dedicated just for spraying birds with so nothing except water is ever inside it. If we do catch them at what doesn't seem like the right time, another option is I offer them a water dish with a bath which is the little round blue dish in my Amazon shop that you see in a lot of my videos. Sometimes I'll wait until I see them bathing and then i kinda offer the mist on top of that and see how they feel and that often is much more welcome. Gandalf and Dapi were more of that style of bather. I would see them trying to bathe and that's when i come with the mister and they're all about it. Any other time? absolutely not. fly away haha

How did you add water into it?
And can i ask why the only yellow bird, (i think u said her name is Trixie?) Cant fly? Is her wings clipped or is she a baby? Or something else?
What's the barrier you use for the doorway?? And where can you get it? I've been looking for something like that for my bird room for ages

@@TheBudgieAcademy no I have not tried the misting technique. Would u recommend that I do it while she is in her cage or out of it?
