Man, I’m telling you I hit a home run with my wife on this mackerel stew. I tweaked it by adding a can of coconut milk and topped it off with a garnish of cilantro. Fantastic!! Thanks for the video.

I add some shrimp in mine plus some garlic, I don't remember you adding any
Also some crab or a bag of the seafood mix would be good also.

Chop up a potato or two and toss them in next time and it will add a nice compliment to the stew. Even some green banana or plantain. Great recipe, quick and easy. Cheers.

I made this soup last night. Wanted to do something different with mackerel. SUPER EASY!! Very delicious!! I used a few spices along with Old Bay seasoning for seafood which really brought out the flavor. The next time that I make it, I plan to toss in some veggies, just to add a little flare. Absolutely loved it.

I've made this recipe at LEAST a gillion times over the years. Mom used to make a mackerel stew, but it had a white base of some kind. Reminded me of potato soup. I found this recipe and wow!!! If they don't have this in heaven, I don't know if I want to go. Its that good, to me. Thanks chef Buck. I don't know what took me so long to comment.

I made this today and it was wonderful. Thank you. Quick tip is to not put the chillis in first thing like he did, the hot oil basically made teargas from my chillis and everyone in the room started choking! Put them in after the onions.
I also added garlic and the green and white parts of a couple of spring onions.

Thank you. I am going to grocery store today. Mackerel is going in the shopping cart. . . . Being familiar with tortillas soup--I live in South Texas--I will will add into my bowl avocado slices, chopped cultural or parsley, and a lime wedge. Adding lime wedge adds more acidity and eliminates chance of noticeable seeds.
    Excellente.

Fresh herbs like cilantro mint parsley sage would be quiet nice. An oldie but still a goodie.

I have made this before without chicken broth. I like to add tomatoes and a small amount of diced potato and peas. Your addition of lemon made me wonder what is wrong with me, I have never added it and it would be perfect. You can get mackerel in tomato sauce that is milder flavor, and also take a spoon and scrape off the brown meat at the top of the fish near the bloodline for finicky eaters..
You never know what is going to come out of the can. My mom and brother stayed with me to wait out a hurricane. I chose that moment to introduce them to jack mackerel. The can I opened was stinky even for me. my brother threatened to go outside in the hurricane and walk home.
Buy some oyster crackers, they make every soup or stew 10% better just by being in the bowl.
you did good Buck-Not many people will do a recipe on something like this. It is easy to make a recipe with 40 dollars worth of ingredients and 5 types of cheese, they should try doing a recipe on a food like jack mackerel that is a top barter item among prison inmates, LOL

Robb's Homemade Life I'll have to take your word on the prison reference, since I've never been caught. Me and CG have been making this mackerel for years. I made a recipe video of this dish about 4 years ago, but it's not that good, and not HD...I've been wanting to re-shoot it for a while, but I'm usually hungry and just want to eat when I make this stew....it's a definite go-to on a chilly day when I'm feeling lazy...doesn't take much time and once you've chopped up the onion and celery most of the work is done.

My father would always buy mackerel instead of salmon now I know that it is really good in the can. I don't like fresh salmon but I like salmon in the can. Now I will revisit Mackerel in the can. Thank you

Never tried mackerel, but I can't wait, now is the time, it's a damn shame you can't afford to buy fresh fish anymore, and I'm not a great cook anyway, so most of the time, I ruin it, this'll really work out, thanks to your videos!

yeah...fresh fish can be a bit pricey sometimes, but something is always on sale, and that's usually what I buy, but sometimes it's not the best fish...I like to buy these canned oily fish because they're wild caught, a better price, and if you can believe even a fraction of the info on the web, better nutrition for you ...plus this recipe is just super easy...hope you like it
