    Awesome review, well done and comprehensive! Especially good was how you were systematic and included lots of clean tone samples, which is sorely lacking with SO MANY other "professional" channels that just show some distortion fest and then call it a day. Thumbs up!

    Just bought one last week. Was worried it wouldn’t measure up to my core 24’s but boy was I wrong. This guitar is incredible plus I saved 300 bucks on the price with the Memorial Day sale. Great job PRS and great review, really helped to make up my mind.

      So its cool? I just ordered the trampas green with a nice top, not here yet. I prefer bolt ons and could not see paying 1200 more for a glued on neck. You still dig it?

    Finally found what I was looking for, thanks TOM, as always, the greatest reviews together with the ones made by Nstuff. I've been evaluating a new guitar, I was looking at the Gibson Les Paul Studio High Performance and the Fender Stratocaster Elite, but this one goes now on top of my list. Amazing guitar

    For the last few years I’ve been looking for that one guitar that I will not want to put down. If you play guitar, you know what I’m talking about. Well I just received my CE 24 (2018) In the mail. After only a few minutes I realized that it was a million times more comfortable than any fender I’ve ever played, or Gibson. The bridge to me is just perfect. The neck fits my hand like a glove. I think that pretty much does it for me in my search. I’m very surprised.

    i have a ce22 from 2001 (before they got discontinued) and just to avoid anyone confusing, this is NOT the same guitar.original CEs had a normal contoured body (exactly the same as core models), dragon II pickups (i'm not sure what they have now) and dot inlays (no birds). the dot inlays and the bolt on construction were what made it cheaper in relation to standard core models.
    i'm writing this so people who plan on buying this guitar second handed should know what they might find. and don't worry if it is an original CE, i can safely say that this is the best guitar i've ever placed my hands on and that includes some PRS core models

    • @WCG72
      @WCG72 8 років тому

      These have the 85/15 pickups. Also, with these you don't have a choice of neck profiles like with the original run, these only come with the pattern thin. You could also get original CE's with the "Birds in Flight" inlay if you wanted but It was an upgrade. I have a buddy that has two original (1999) CE's and both have birds. One is pattern thin and the other is pattern regular.

      I couldn't agree more. Tom is such a fantastic player. Fun to listen to and learn from. I will say, though that that guitar is extremely disappointing. I didn't care one bit for it. I though the components and construction were just sub-par for PRS. Considering you don't get a hard case with it also makes it a bummer.
      For the price, you could shop around and almost be able to buy 2 older used CE's .
      I have a couple of CE22's from the late 90's and they absolutely blow this guitar away in terms of quality (I know it's not the same guitar)
      Anywho, its always great to see hear Tom play guitar. Players like him are inspiring.

      I'm sorry, but I own this guitar, and it's definitely not a fucking broomstick. The CE is the best rock guitar I've ever played. It's like a Telecaster and a Les Paul had a baby with a perfectly finished, smooth playing neck that has better quality fret work than anything I've played from Fender or Gibson .

      @Mike D Yes, i sent my guitar to the customer service (I live in Italy), and after more than two months and many e-mails they asked me if I wanted to wait for a new neck (it would have taken longer) or if I wanted a new guitar.
      I chose the new guitar, and they gave me a guitar made a year before, even though I had a 2019 guitar and asked for a 2019 guitar in substitution. (The new one is a 2018).
      That's why I'm not satisfied at all.
      I hope the USA customer service is better than the italian one.

    The S2 series are beautiful guitarrs but the Korean pickups just don't sound that great. I've seen many reviews and people are switching them out. So the CE with American pickups might be the answer. I cant see payi g for an S2 and a year down the road needing to switch out. I have to check the price on this one. Nothing beats a PRS neck, but can't compromise the sound.

    So I had a 2017 Core Custom 24, 2017 CE 24, and 2017 PRS SE 245. I really think they are all abolutely great guitars. The SE 245 sounded almost the same as the core 24 oddly...minus the coil taps.. and the 24 quacks more.. I prefer the thinner neck of the 24s. Again they all sound epic... not sure which sounds better. I thought that I would prefer the sound of my core but I always kept gravitating back to my CE... except when playing lead, delay, or using coil tapping then the core was warmer sounding. Anyway I just sold my core and 245 and kept the CE. I know it's half the price and cheaper to make, shallower carve, etc... but if you actually own both and compare sound only the CE just has magical sound... bright, clear, crisp, punchy, etc. I will still buy another core with color I like more than my last... or the semi hollow special with more pickups soon... just to give a different tone for different types of music.

    • @KarstenJohansson
      @KarstenJohansson 8 років тому

      I also prefer 22 frets, even though most of my gits are 21. I'm happy to bend to the highest E, so I don't need 24 frets (I don't hate them... just don't need a fret for the highest E, and I like the type of stressful vibrato instead of the computer-perfect landing on E.). But I keep hearing reviews with a clear preference for *21* fret necks.
      One even said 22 frets are *annoying* unless you play blues box patterns "way up there". Anyone able to explain this phenomenon? I cannot understand this 22nd fret hatred. So bizarre.

      I'm sorta defending the S2's because I own four of them. I've owned the core models and the se models and there all good but the S2's are my favorites and the bonus is that there more affordable. Made in Maryland and the loaded pick-guards are farmed out to G&B, they make some great pickups.

    Total rip-off from PRS and I say this,as a longtime PRS fanboy.2,500 Euros but no real carved top,Korean tremolo(which is crap,I speak from experience from my SE Tremonti Custom,which had the same tremolo & didn't stayed in tune to save his life.),no jumbo frets and the headstock construction is much cheaper then on the ''core'' models.The old,discontinued CE models had US hardware,a proper carved top and the same headstock construction.

    • @WCG72
      @WCG72 8 років тому +4

      Are you referring to the three piece neck? Because being someone who has worked with wood for many years I can tell you that a "scarf" wood joint is very strong.

    • @vampolascott36
      @vampolascott36 7 років тому +1

      It has a "real" carved top, just not the violin style. My guitar stays in tune when I use the tremolo, so there you go. All that other stuff you mentioned has no effect on the guitar's sturdiness or sound. It works well for me, and I couldn't care less that it's not a $4k guitar. It's a well built guitar with it's own tonal personality which I really enjoy, and that's all that matters to me. It also came beautifully set up, right out of the box.

      Now, now, don’t be jealous...seriously though, if you e come this far, save a little more and get the real deal.

    Has anyone notice that 25 inch scale sound awful, especially with distortion. Please make a 25 1/2 inch scale. They would sell so fast you wouldn't be able to keep them in stock. Don't give me that standard "it's the PRS sound" thing. Noise is noise.

      Sound is subjective and it is indeed part of the PRS sound. They already can’t keep them in stock. PRS is backordered on everything for 8-12 months.
