I played one of these on Friday. Of all the PRS's i've played the CE is the only one I would commit to. I thought this was $900 as I was playing it... nope $500. I would have gone home with it had I the extra cash. It was that great. Probably the next guitar i'll get.
PRS is an awesome company. It will remain awesome until Paul is no longer with us. Companies tend to lose their purpose when the founder is no longer the captain. PRS is everything Gibson is not - and that is high praise. I appreciate Gibson and Fender for their heritage, who could not? They were the pioneers when rock n roll was getting started. They both have totally lost their way, and are simply a bad value today.
It’s not just them whether the founder left the company or not. I know Schecter was one of the last brands that I discovered had guitars with sharp frets which I’ve seen way before with pretty much every other brand except PRS which I can’t recall coming across a bad brand new one ever.
Watch the Anderton's Music video of their tour of the Maryland factory. You can see and hear how much the people on the factory floor love what they do and the guitars they make. Paul has set a standard that the rest of them have bought into as the only way to make a guitar.
The first time I saw a PRS at my local shop was like seeing a Ferrari for the first time. It was a white Custom 24 with bird inlays. I was just knocked out by it. The thing played like butter and sounded like filet mignon. Just an incredible instrument. I came close to buying it, but was very focused on getting a Marshall. I was thirteen at the time and had been playing a couple years and just wanted a better amp. So I ended up getting the Marshall and a whole bunch of guitars over the years, but only got my first PRS a few years ago. I couldn't believe I finally owned one. I realized I should have gotten one years earlier. And it was an SE model, not a Core. The SE line is better than anything Gibson or Fender makes at much higher prices. The SE line is the best thing to happen to guitar players since the electric guitar. I'll be getting this wonderful entry level PRS very soon.
I'm one that doesn't get along with the newer SEs. I have plenty of US models I love. However I played a few of these satin CE SE in stores. They were all great. I''m a guitar tech too. Some just needed a small twist of the truss rod to get perfect. I bought one and I had a set of USA 85/15 in my parts bin....OMG...such a great guitar with the core pickups. The stock pickups are great..but putting better set in really wakes up the guitar.
I love my PRS SE CE 24 Vintage Cherry Satin that I bought in February this year ..... It feels good, plays well, is only 7.2lbs, love the finish and 10" radius. It's sooo resonant. Finally PRS makes a lovely guitar for those who cannot spend $$$ !
I think the finish really depends on the wood selection. I have one in the same color, and the 3 pieces of wood for the body match very very well. It looks like one piece unless I look at it from like 4-5 inches or closer. So, if you care about something like that, make sure to look at pictures of the *exact* guitar, or find one in person.
Agreed. There's one of these in my local store that looks great- all three body pieces are similar with the amount of gran and direction, and it's not that noticeable. But I have seen others like this one, and they do look cheesy. And about the strings- I'm older and getting arthritis, and I prefer the 9's.
You forgot to mention that it comes with a treble bleed circuit, which when you turn down the volume pot it doesn't lose any of the treble frequencies, which is very useful for when you are on a dirty channel and you want to change from distorted to clean with just the volume knob
Ive been learning guitar since my Grade 10 Second semester earlier this year, Months in playing my transitions on chords have been very good ive learnt a few easy-intermediate songs and im ready to step up from my Jasmine acoustic to an electric guitar. I think this is the guitar I wanna get, it sounds so great and it seems like it will be able to play every genre i can think of.
I bought one of these on Ebay for $499! It is very versatile!! I did some work on it. I also added some PRS locking tuners. IT IS A BEAST!! I use the split-coil alot! I can make it sound like my PRS se Zach Meyer or I can switch it to single coil to make it sound like a Strat! Buy one now... before the price goes up!!!!!
PRS SE are the best guitars out there for the 500-1000 range. Its unbelievable. I have an American single cut and I am dying to get my hands on the SE swamp ash special. I have a Gibson and never wanted an epiiphone les Paul. If I could go back I would just get 3 SE PRS for the price of the American series. Custom 24, swamp ash special, and either a silver sky or NF3. Pretty much everything you need covered

I just bought a charcoal one and had it set up for slide. And I'm starting with 11's., raise the action a bit and lock the bridge. The charcoal is the best of the finishes in my opinion. The gold and silver totally look like spray paint and you can see the open wood grain in pretty much all of them. I didn't get to see the red or cherry first hand. But I don't really care about looks. It simply feels great! And the 24 neck gives you full access to upper A. The way I figure is for around 600 bucks (with setup), I can get at least 4 of these for the same price as a nice SG or flying V. Then just dedicate each to its own open tuning. If this first one works out completely, I'll just hot brand a 3" letter under the bridge for its open tuning....who cares about the finish....the worse- the better! Lol. Because it feels fantastic! I also feel this guitar will hold its value in years to come because of its quality and uniqueness. But we're probably talking 10 to 20 years out. Used ones are going for 400 or so right now. I just don't think you can loose with this one.
Absolutely! Such a fantastic guitar. I have played several PRS guitars, including some of their top of the line-and they’re all excellent. But this cheaper model is one that really spoke to me and I have thought about keeping
It's pretty clear that all of your listed cons are really subjective for you personally, but do you have any more problems with the guitar that might be more objective?
No, I really don't. I try to list all cons, both objective and subjective. My gripe with the wood pieces being shown is an example of something objective being something also subjective. But the guitar itself was flawless.
I still have that catalog. Got it at gruhn guitars in Nashville. They had a Dragon 1 for sale for 2700$ I bought a custom 22 for a bit cheaper and I really don't regret what i bought but one of the first dragons goes for some ungodly amount. Nice video ! Loved it
Very cool! Unbelievable that the Dragon was that amount! My local music shop had a Dragon (I think a Dragon 1), but I don't think I asked how much it was. Thank you for watching!
I just ordered the regular SE CE24 in Black Cherry because I love the finish and plan to keep it forever, but essentially the same guitars aside from a couple minor differences. Solid value for $
Oh I agree. Heck, I want one! But you can see why people would say that, right? I doubt many beginners would drop $4000 on a Core model. Take the prestige of PRS, slap a $500 price on it, and set it up with .9s, and you have a guitar perfect for beginners. Hence, why people say that.
I had a PRS special semi hollow ( $5,000) and returned it after 2 weeks. For several reasons I decided it just wasn't worth the money. I picked up an SECE 24 today before the PRS accounting department figures out they're charging half of what they could.. this thing plays great and is an incredible value
i believe what made this prs become the cheapest one was that the finishing body cost was low compared to other prs with shiny glarry body finishing.. the rest is the same as other se series. this is an amazing prs guitar for sure
I bought a Santana model that is gorgeous and I love it but just isn’t comfortable sitting on my lap..balance is off for me unless the couch arm is bracing for support. Great video..Ty
I love this guitar, I did get the gloss finish for only £30 more from Peach Guitars. Worth the extra. Pups are so responsive and playing punk is just awesome
I want to get a cheap bedroom practice guitar. Been eyeing up various Epiphones, Gretsch, Ibanez, but PRS just never misses, and I think at £399, I'm going to have to go with this
Going through the motions of life and guitars, always been a huge PRS fan. They basically become my brand as I was getting into guitar. Restructuring my collection, and this one is where I'm headed when I'm ready. Fantastic. Lastly - paused the video here at 2:26 to comment a major kudos to using a new Big Wreck tune for the demo! 👏🏻
Thank you! Yeah, I love PRS. Let me know if you get one of these! I think it's phenomenal. Thank you for the kudos on Big Wreck! I try to put them in each guitar video. :)
Interestingly mine has only 2 peaces body and no distinct colour. Looks like single one, you need to turn it in different angles to see where it is glued. So probably you need to check it in the shop to get a better body.
That's hard to answer. They are both great guitars, but they are different in the way they feel and sound. I think it's definitely something you would, ideally, play in person at a guitar store. If you can't do that, either guitar is great. But you might have to watch more reviews to get enough information to make a decision.
haha! Yeah, I was really trying to find something. It's a fantastic guitar. To me, it doesn't look perfect, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. :) Thanks for watching!
I think you could definitely get in the ballpark of that sound with this one. I don't know what amps or effects they ran through, but I'm sure that's available somewhere online.
I agree with the color pattern it's hard trying to pick one out seeing that they are all ugly 😆 all the colors are. But I'm going for the charcoal too. Also the width of the neck scares me Abit because my fingers are alittle shorter. But I like the sound. I'm going for it hopefully the width won't be to wide for me. Can you measure the width for me? Top then middle and end? Please
Just got one a few weeks ago. Plays as good, sounds as good as my US-made CE-24. Period. At a fraction of the price. And it's lighter in weight. I love it. The thing I liked best about my US CE-24 was the pickups. I hear virtually no difference with the overseas SE CE-24, and I have several SE's where the pickups are not as articulate as the US 85/15. This guitar is perfect. I may replace the tuners with a locking set, but that's for convenience, not performance.🤜💥
@@BeastMadeReviews it sure brought back memories of owning an Ibanez Egen18. It's a music making machine for sure. I would love to get one soon. Hope they keep pushing them out as they're really on to something here. 🔥
I'm not saying people should use any certain strings. I'm just saying the majority of players prefer 10s. And beginners usually start with 9s. There are plenty of artists who go above or below that. It's definitely personal preference. My observation was really just a nitpick and not really anything "wrong" with the guitar.
Now they have the swamp ash se ce 24 sandblasted in different colours, you Will be amazed! Try one and....... please do a test? Thanx for posting! ♨️🎸♨️
Gibson and fender are totally great for what they are. I would say they are Chevy and Ford from the 60s. PRS is like a modern-day Toyota it does everything you want and nothing you don't want. And you don't have to have it in the shop all the time to make it do what you want. It just takes you a to b. This is the Toyota Corolla model. But if you want to s e McCarty that would be the camry model. If you want luxury at a decent price you get the SE which is like the Toyota 4Runner. If price is not your concern you just want the best guitar you get a core model which is like the Toyota Land cruiser. You're getting excellent value at every price point. But if you prefer to tinker with your guitars to get performance... Are you just have to satisfy the Bros... You're going to ask for a Chevy or a Ford
Fret work could be improved for this price point IMO. Cover plates on the back recessed. (Both can be done DIY) . Other than those two things.. I'm thinking hard about checking out the Red Satin. LOVE the looks of these and I'm not a PRS lover.
I love strats. I have one, but I don't play it often, mostly because I find it has a very specific sound that isn't always what I'm looking for. But I do love it. I need to try the PRS Silver Sky and see how it compares.
Good information. Agreed....body pieces easily can be seen even from my tiny screen mobile.. That's what stopping me from buying.. Very good-looking guitar
I think the PRS tele is nice. It would be cool if the SE line could get their own tele with a few unique colors for around the 500-850 price point. Maybe they don't think it'll complete with the Fender Player as well as the Silver Sky SE did or something, idk. Or maybe it's already in the works, who knows. I think it would be cool. A "T" version of the SE McCarty 594 Singlecut with some kind of PRS trem or a floyd rose and some proprietary colors would be nice too since the Tremonti version is their only Singlecut+Trem combo currently (I don't like the pickups or color options for it). Oh and BRING BACK THE PRS SE KESTREL BASS! 🔥Bass players love PRS too.
I don’t have insider knowledge, but if I were to bet, I would think that PRS is already in the process of making an SE version of their tele. I would definitely be interested in that too. Especially if they make an SE Myles Kennedy model!
This Charcoal seems to be the color of the 3 that looks the worst for noticing the 3 piece body. But I still am looking hard into getting one...i prefer a bolt on neck.maybe im a wierdo.i just prefer the look
Yeah you may be right about the color. Because this is the only one I have tried, I don’t know if it was something unique to this piece. But I really love this guitar. I agree with you-I love a bolt on neck!
These guitars are getting great reviews so much so that PRS have lowered the price of the PRS SE CE with the maple top and gloss finish to £529 in the U.K. . PRS probably thought they’d never sell enough of them at £700 with the satin version in the video here coming in at £499 and getting these great reviews .
oh that's crazy! I'll have to check out prices here in the US to see if they're doing the same thing. When the satin version is this good at this price, it's a hard upsell to $700 for the extra gloss shine and maple cap.
i just purchased one of these black beauties my second PRS my question is how much cheese do want with your whine ! i think it's an amazing quality guitar bar none , looks are in the eyes of the beholder and mine is a true gem ...

But do got other vintage 34 old old Japanese gretsch 6120 Orange just love it old school I had another gibson 5 of and Fender, same ywi gretsch in 1997 one was A country gentleman 72 omg I miss it . But Prs fit me good when I buy s,/hand se Santana yellow dd cut omg sound great . I change pickup over time . But my core line I will not . Only on my 97 sas to. Seymour phatcat . My Santana gold guitar . .
Hmmm PRS is interesting indeed just I've never even bothered even once to play one, let alone buy one. I mean, if I want a Les Paul, there's a Gibson for that. If I want a strat, there's Fender. Just never seen the appeal of a PRS. Why go half way in between instead of all out?
I don't see them that way. I think of them as a guitar with its own sound. With that said, they have guitars that lean into the Fender or Gibson sound. I think of this CE as more of a modern style bolt-on guitar.
Why are PRS obsessed with tremolo systems though? A lot of guys really hate them, myself included. I wish they'd offer non tremolo versions on everything they make.
tempted to buy but didnt.. that says something. they look good but meh. string gauge -? change the strings to whatever you want... all stores have light gauge to make it easy to play in the store... three piece bofy ? its $499. duh
Of course. I realize some of my criticisms are nitpicks, but I mention that. I always try to think of a few things that people might or might not think of when considering a purchase. There just weren't that many bad things to mention, so I had to nitpick. As for the body, my criticism isn't that it is 3 pieces, but that the finish is inconsistent across the three pieces. I've seen other models of this guitar that looked more seamless.
What i don't like it that they've stopped countersinking the backplates,so now they are raised off the body which i think is very cheap looking & ugly.
The 9s make it jangely put 10 s on it and it loses it s mojo ….it sounds like every other prs… with 10s…the 9s on just this prs produce a mojo that you don’t get on other prs guitars ….this strip down puppy has a mojo to it Frank gamble plays light strings and he is not a beginner lol😂
that's true! It definitely has mojo. And yes, point taken about Gambale. My point wasn't meant to imply that 9s are only for beginners. Certainly other people like lightweight strings--Rick Beato and Billy Gibbons are a couple of guys who like light strings. I think the typical arc is for guitar players to advance to somewhat more heavy strings--at least it seems like that from my perspective.
"Cheap" is relative. It might not be the cheapest guitar on the market, but it is very competitive with its price, and it is the most inexpensive PRS model.
It doesn't stay in tune . Pickups are junk . There's a strange thing going on with the electronics . The G - B - E strings have an odd high pitched metallic ring. I think the low grade metal used to make the bridge and the Wammy bar need to be upgraded . They look awesome but that's it . If you're looking for something to hang on a wall then PRS is the guitar . Other then that the cheap PRS guitars are just Cheap .

I see the hole where it would attach. ANYONE WHO CAN ANSWER, TY very much.
yeah it does. I usually don't demo the trem, so I don't put it on.
So probably you need to check it in the shop to get a better body.
yeah, I've seen a few other guitars, and they looked better than this one. I was just unlucky. 😂
I know they are different guitars but, as I can only buy one, should I buy this one or the Yamaha Revstar for rock/hard rock?
That's hard to answer. They are both great guitars, but they are different in the way they feel and sound. I think it's definitely something you would, ideally, play in person at a guitar store. If you can't do that, either guitar is great. But you might have to watch more reviews to get enough information to make a decision.
rock hard rock classic rock ..? PRS buddy, forget that revstar
@@junoomarseda Thanks for your input. 🙂
Your cons were in my pros lol I love the raw look of it
haha! Yeah, I was really trying to find something. It's a fantastic guitar. To me, it doesn't look perfect, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. :) Thanks for watching!
The black one...wow. I wonder what these things will go for in January when MAP goes away for a couple weeks. 499 is pretty sick.
Maybe i'llbe able to get the linkin park tone with this one . Or should i buy the expenssive PRS in order to get the Linkin Park Tone ?
I think you could definitely get in the ballpark of that sound with this one. I don't know what amps or effects they ran through, but I'm sure that's available somewhere online.
@@BeastMadeReviews I think that they use a Marshall Amp
I have been shopping for a new guitar for my birthday in July. I think this just moved to the top of the list.
It moved to the top of my list too!
How about woodwork and Motorbikes
Had me sold with that intro riff... She's so..... heavvvvyyyyyy!!!
yes!
Please
I don’t have here anymore. It was a loaner. But they should have detailed measurements on their website. It’s not a big neck.
i have small hands and the wide necks feel good
Just got one a few weeks ago.
Thanks for sharing!
I tried one earlier. They're amazing! I preferred them over their set neck gloss finished models that are around the same price.
Yes! I haven’t tried the gloss version yet, but I am inclined to agree. I love the sound and feel of this one.
@@BeastMadeReviews it sure brought back memories of owning an Ibanez Egen18. It's a music making machine for sure. I would love to get one soon. Hope they keep pushing them out as they're really on to something here. 🔥
I got the cherry one wich I bought one year ago, but i paid 799 euro. I don't mind, I feel very happy with its quality.
just bought an SE. the moment i got it out of the bag it felt amazing.. one day i'll have a US :D
yeah!!
Nice review but you maybe need to call Gibbons and Iommi re the string gauges they should be using :-)
I'm not saying people should use any certain strings. I'm just saying the majority of players prefer 10s. And beginners usually start with 9s. There are plenty of artists who go above or below that. It's definitely personal preference. My observation was really just a nitpick and not really anything "wrong" with the guitar.
u just gained a new subscriber, underrated UA-camr btw!❤
Thank you!
I just bought one. Same color. Great guitar - not a beauty Queen but plays and sounds good.
glad you enjoy it! It's such a great guitar
Bought this one from C & M music Lafayette $499. Came with a plek’d service included. Wow
that's amazing! Great deal!
I would love to get a hardtail version of this❤
Yeah! I hope they make it! If they do, I’ll review it
Just subscribed to your channel. Content is good and you were playing a lick from Holy Forever. Thanks.
Thank you! Yes I was. 😁
No matter which PRS you get they’re all so comfortable to play
absolutely! They are a joy to play
Now they have the swamp ash se ce 24 sandblasted in different colours, you Will be amazed! Try one and....... please do a test? Thanx for posting! ♨️🎸♨️
I'll check it out!
What is the weight of the guitar
I didn’t weigh it since the weight varies. The one I tried was pretty light for its size, though
@@BeastMadeReviews per sweetwater, it weighs 7.5 pounds, thanks.
Fret work could be improved for this price point IMO. Cover plates on the back recessed. (Both can be done DIY) . Other than those two things.. I'm thinking hard about checking out the Red Satin. LOVE the looks of these and I'm not a PRS lover.
How do you like Stratocasters?
I love strats. I have one, but I don't play it often, mostly because I find it has a very specific sound that isn't always what I'm looking for. But I do love it. I need to try the PRS Silver Sky and see how it compares.
@@BeastMadeReviews I've never played a PRS, but I need to check one out.
@@BeastMadeReviews With the maple cap you won’t see the three section body panels which are an eyesore!! 🤓
@@daviddalziel884 good enough reason for me! 🤣
i just purchased one of these black beauties my second PRS my question is how much cheese do want with your whine ! i think it's an amazing quality guitar bar none , looks are in the eyes of the beholder and mine is a true gem ...
Who is whining? Not me.
I love prs got 5 core line . Two Santana se gold & Retro dd cut yellow . And s2 single cut mccarty 594 gibson scale,, it got p90 lollar nk suhr humbucker thronbucker bg.
This one I play it It's great. If upgrade tuner key ? For pickup lollar low wind or novtel 90 or seymour duncan phatcat 90 great sound pickup . Tonerider are cheap a3 in nk a2 in bridge .
Prs guitars make great low model now sas. And narrow field I got real thing 2 sas 90s & 2012 sas nf pickup the paul omg special sim/hollow omg a d full hollow body 2 what guitar . But do got other vintage 34 old old Japanese gretsch 6120 Orange just love it old school I had another gibson 5 of and Fender, same ywi gretsch in 1997 one was A country gentleman 72 omg I miss it . But
Prs fit me good when I buy s,/hand se Santana yellow dd cut omg sound great .
I am diabetic and 60 years old and I really have to have 9's and 8's for fender scale. But when I was younger I used 11's
Great Guitar!
Why are PRS obsessed with tremolo systems though? A lot of guys really hate them, myself included. I wish they'd offer non tremolo versions on everything they make.
Yeah I understand. I'm a bit ambivalent on trems, but I rarely use them. I kind of see them as a bonus, but I get why someone might not like it.
Check out the McCarty models, they have fixed bridge
tempted to buy but didnt.. that says something. they look good but meh. string gauge -? change the strings to whatever you want... all stores have light gauge to make it easy to play in the store... three piece bofy ? its $499. duh
I almost bought one when they came out and the distinguishable pieces on the body is what stopped me.
I agree with the colors ‼️ But then again I'm not into PRS, both American and Asian, doesn't fit me at all ❗
I didn't expect to hear Paramore in this video...
😎😎
I still believe the yamaha revstar is a better guitar than this at the price bracket. Try the RSE model
That's also an excellent guitar!
I like that PRS tele.
Yeah! That's the Myles Kennedy Signature model. It's not really a tele, but it is one of my favorite PRS guitars.
Pro. No fingerprints!
that's true! I didn't think of that. I like the satin finish a lot, other than the weird color issues.
Aint nothing wrong with that guitar ! Sounds great
i prefer the 9's and the finish. The uglier the better, frankenstein
Paul Reed Smith looks just like Clark Griswold.
I don't know. I'm 48 and I think I might be buying one of these. Of course I need permission from my wife first. 🤣
I've been looking at some really nice PRS knockoffs. But at this price, I can afford the real deal.
What i don't like it that they've stopped countersinking the backplates,so now they are raised off the body which i think is very cheap looking & ugly.
I agree
10s react with the pickups better.
Whenever I think of PRS I think of Wes borland with black eye contacts in the nookie music video
yes! LOL
Prs is my dream guitar!
Mikael akerfeltd from opeth inspired me for this guitar
I hope I'll play my own PRS guitar oneday!
The 9s make it jangely put 10 s on it and it loses it s mojo ….it sounds like every other prs… with 10s…the 9s on just this prs produce a mojo that you don’t get on other prs guitars ….this strip down puppy has a mojo to it
Frank gamble plays light strings and he is not a beginner lol😂
that's true!
For the record…Yamaha is also making killer guitars still
absolutely. I have a video about that. But it's a not a comparison I need to make, here.
Paul is the Steve Jobs of the guitar world.
499. Isnt cheap
"Cheap" is relative. It might not be the cheapest guitar on the market, but it is very competitive with its price, and it is the most inexpensive PRS model.
Leffler Mountain
The cons are so subjective lmoa
Definitely. There’s not a lot wrong with it!
I strongly disagree. That hasn't been my experience at all.
