Robert Baker have the limited-run satin Standard without the maple top and yea, the CE feels mighty fine. Personally I didn’t get along with the 85/15 set and went to 59/09 via a detour of \m/ pickups. The bridge is PRS but it’s the one from the import line. I changed mine for the MannMade NOS2000 which is the original first generation. The sound difference is not just imaginary and it comes with the thicker size bar.

Cool I think that with only 2 control knobs it creates less resistance to the coils. Which means it will pretty much handle any type of volume from amp effortlessly.

PRS uses a resistor on the push/pull pot to bleed in a small amount of the coil that would otherwise be fully grounded out. This allows it to retain some fullness and much of the hum-cancelling when otherwise split!
    Cheers!

ahhh.....that explains why I was disappointed because I wanted it to be also to have strat-esque tone. I kinda think it makes it less flexible because I often want that single coil bite.

The PRS “pattern thin” neck is the best I’ve ever played. That is the neck shape they’ve put on the CEs.

That thing sounds incredible. 85/15's are crazy. And like you said, it kind of slots into its own area, which is cool. Not just another strat or gibson or whatever. PRS tone is pretty unique and they really do their own thing well. Plus they feel absolutely flawless in the hand. Hard to argue!

Hi Robert. I just received my first P.R.S. Today. Bought a 2016 CE 24 off of Reverb.
I now see what all the fuss is about. It is a damn fine instrument!!!
Ive only been playing on it for a couple of hours, but I can see it is like a swiss army knife with all of the combinations of tones that is coming out of my Fender Super Reverb.
As an owner of 7 American Strats, and a couple Gibson SG and Les pauls, I would describe it as the love child of a Strat and an SG. But it is unique in its own right.
It is gourgous and really fun and easy to play.
I dont always name my axes either, but she is Scarlet! Right off the bat... lol...
    Rock on brother!

I bought my two PRS custom 24's new in 2012, and they are amazing. I've been playing Ibanez guitars since 1991, Fenders since 94, and Gibson's since 97, but since having the PRS'S, they are my main live guitar's! I have a bad back, and one of my Les Pauls is heavy, and the other one is no light weight, so I tend to favour lighter guitars like the PRS, or my SG. M

    Great video.
There is a "string ground" wire run from the control's cavity into the side of the hole for the "bottom" tailpiece body bushing. It connects by being squeezed against the side of the hole by the metal bushing, not usually soldered. The factory wire doesn't necessarily survive changing the bushing since it's small diameter and bent at a hard 90 degree angle, lying alongside the installed bushing. I would recommend installing a new wire for that ground before installing/reinstalling a new bushing in that position. Then make sure you have a good connection before going to the next step.

I had one of the first CE's made. It was red with a black laminate on the headstock, the original style neck heel, which didn't stick out as much as yours and PRS lever lock tuners. I'm pretty sure it was made in the original shop in Annapolis MD. It was a SWEET guitar. I haven't played any PRS guitars in the last ten years, but mine was simply the best solid body guitar I ever owned. In those days all PRS guitars had 24 fret necks, so there wasn't a 'CE 24.'

Prs uses a technique called partial coil split. A resistor is added in line of one of the coils hot lead going to ground. It only drops a specific among not of the one coils output to ground. Depending on the value of the resistor warrants different voicings. But the great thing it still remains humcanceling. The DTG model is the only guitar that had splittable humbuckers that actually sounded like singlecoils. Have yet to find another guitar do a convincing coil split like that guitar does

The EXACT feeling I have for my S2 Standard 22 (satin black diamond finish) w/ #7 pups. After owning and selling two SEs and realizing I could probably never afford a Core model, I was done with PRS until I picked up the S2 in a shop for the heck of it and took it for a test drive. Unbelievable value, playability and tone. Now that I've had it for a few months, I can say it's quite possibly my favorite of all I've owned. And, YES - you are right - the split coils sound FAR better than any other split I've tried.

Great review. I think some people look at the CE24 as a lower priced alternative to the Custom line -- which it is, in one sense. But it really has its own thing going on. The maple neck, the more subtle carve on the top, the McCarty-styled switching system all give the CE24 its own feel. And since it's not one of their "core" guitars, the tops don't get graded... but I've seen some gorgeous tops on some CE24s that would give some the 10-top guitars a real run for their money. At a lower price point compared to their core guitars, I think they give you a lot of bang for your buck.

Best review by far of this guitar. Your reviews are better because you are giving genuine honest opinions.... not just trying to sell us like everyone else that tells us something is good just to get free gear. I can tell you really love this guitar. I bought same one but in satin cherry burst. I agree that this is one of the best sounding guitars I've ever played. I also have Gibson Les Paul with bb pro pickups, American standard strat, PRS SE 245... and I gravitate way more to this guitar... just has unique snappy attack and smoothness to sound. The cleans don't sound as good as my strat...but iprefer the CE split to my strat in overdrive. I actually prefer this to my gibson slightly. The Gibson is brighter in low E, A, and D strings... and has good low end growl... but the PRS has warm bite and a tone that is uniquely awesome... can't explain. I almost want to sell my gibson because sounds is so similar but prs has more tonal variety. Both great... similar sounding guitars in humbucking mode. Prs ce much better playability and tonation. Again they both sound great. I also played the prs core 24 and it didn't have the cool snappy attack that this guitar has... though it looked very impressive. I still need to spend more time with the core to get better taste... but this CE is a screaming beast... not sure any guitar could sounds better... just different tone. Thanks again for great review!

Just picked up one of these and lived it so much, picked up a second! Sounds better than some guitars I have costing 3-4x the price, including some high-end PRS's.... Such a versatile guitar and sounds killer live. Plenty of cut on the neck pickup too and split coil sounds are KILLER... The bolt-on neck gives it its snap

I wish they had that color Red when I got my 30th ANNiv. PRS from their core lineup. It is harder to see the color unless your onstage with a light hitting it.

Prs does great coil splits. They feel like tele single coils more so than strats, but thats awesome. My McCarty can sound like a full fat les paul type sound, or a big warm tele. It's awesome.

I have two S2's, a standard 24 and a Singlecut. Also have an SE 245. At first I really liked the necks on the S2s but lately I have been liking the SE 245 and my Les Pauls better.

More people that are just learning would be more atached or drawn to learning that slow but powerful sound like pink floyd that you just gave us an amazing example of. Like i said, you are really good at fast playing, but for so many of us learn at that slower pace while trying to effect our listeners at an advanced style even if we can't play that well (As You) of coarse

I find many guitars fun for a while but have found over time after the "newness" wears off I rarely pickup my guitars with less than an 12" radius. I wish PRS would offer more than the 10" on more models.

100% agree - Exactly why I ended up parting with my PRS, could never get along with it in terms of playability.

The 10” radius is a critical component to a PRS guitar. If you don’t get along w it, PRS prob isn’t for you. That’s like asking for an LP w something other than a 12” radius. Although it would be cool if, like Gibson, PRS offered a compound radius on some models.

I have LOVED PRS guitars since I first played one!! I have 3 SE guitars and I need a REALone & might have to go the CE route. I love their neck pickups. Still has the round bass sound but with attack and definition.

@@RobertBakerGuitar - I think it is because the next is 2 frets closer to the bridge so it takes out some to the mud of the typical Humbucker vs the Gibson scale and 22 fret. . I used to have a Carvin DC and it s the same scale....its just different..
Thank you for all the great information

I've been waiting for this video @Robert Baker.
I love my PRS Custom 24 and so know exactly what you mean about the 85/15's. Mine is the core version with the mahogany set neck so is a bit different. I know the bolt on maple neck and moulded bridge add a bit more snap and brightness. I love my other PRS guitars too - the 594, 509 and Hollowbody ii.
You may love the 594 but as a Les Paul owner, you may find it a bit too similar and I can't see you getting rid of either of yours. I could make an argument for owning one - especially a DC version as that has better neck access and a bit lighter too. Obviously its more versatile with the Split coils which I find very usable too. For something a bit different, you could look at the Hollowbody 594 (or Hollowbody ii as that adds a piezo you can use to blend in).
For me, buying my first PRS quickly led to number 2, 3 and 4 with the desire to add 5 and 6 in the near future so I look forward to seeing your video's as you too get hooked on them... :D
    Have fun and Keep Rockin'
