  • One of PRS's most popular models makes a triumphant return for 2016, the CE is back and better than ever! Combining the sparkle and feel of a bolt-on satin maple neck with the signature PRS Mahogany body and Maple top for a unique package loved by PRS users worldwide. The neck sports a Pattern in carve and satin nitro finish for a natural, addictive feel. To further maximize the guitar’s inherent tone and clarity, the CE 24 features PRS 85/15 pickups, which Paul designed to have remarkable clarity as well as extended high and low end. e electronics consist of a volume and push/pull tone control with 3-way toggle switch for a total of six classic sounds.
    Thee original CE was to introduced in 1988 and offered players PRS design and quality with the added snap and sparkle of traditional bolt-on guitars. Returning nearly a decade of being out of the lineup, the CE 24 is back and better than ever.

    Tom Quayle is holding an exact replica of the guitar I bought in 2020!! My CE24 is my absolute pride and joy!! Super great tone and playability!! I love all guitars, but there is no substitute for the PRS guitars!!

    Holy hell the SOUND of that guitar! And the top is so beautiful too. Time to start saving up... Also I love listening to Tom because hes one of the few guys who actually demos guitars the way that I want to hear them as a fellow jazz musician. Not in a metal or blues context, but to hear the clean sound of the guitar, and how the chords ring out on it, and to hear the rich harmonic content it's capable of. Great demonstration!

    Great review and super playing from Tom, as always! Beautiful finish on that one for sure, too.
    I still own my original PRS, a 1990 CE24, bought back then over ten other new PRSes-literally picked out with eyes shut as my wife handed me one after the other-and it still does everything superbly. (I recently modded the 5-way rotary for a toggle and two push-pulls for 8 sounds, too. I do miss one of the 5-way's sounds, but overall, I feel it's now even more versatile. YMMV there, of course.)
    Anyway, the *main* thing I always notice when talking about this "new" PRS is the fact that the originals had an ALDER body, and IMO, that brings it ever closer to a more 'original' sound. So I'm a bit surprised PRS didn't decide to go the alder route in this "reissue". For some years, I've been comparing my CE24 to new PRSes on the wall, first hand, and mine typically ate them for breakfast, just more tone, twang and bite to my ears. My great local dealer once pointed out to me that, between the alder body and the bolt-on construction, I was apparently favoring the "F" side of things in PRS's supposed F-meets-G concept. I would have to agree there; my CE24 sounds quite distinct from my 30th A CU24 and my DGT. Still, IMHO, a PRS sounds like... a PRS, no matter which model.

    I had one. I'm still broken from it getting stolen. I had an EG22 too, I'll never recover, I'll always remember. Have a wife and kids now, so I'll never get another. But I would give anything less my family and job, to have the chance to have her back for a month. 5 position knob, I'm actually crying.

    I bought one and also have the Custom SE. The CE 24 is definitely a step up. Man I love these guitars! PRS rules. I own a Gibson Studio, 2 Gretsches, 2 Ibanez, 1 Fender Jazz Bass and an Ibanez Bass. I love them all but the quality of PRS is amazing. There are no lemons, no need to spend extra dough to have them set up properly and the finishing is superb. Go get one...or two!I

    I compared the NECK pickup's clean tone of this CE to the same PU and same position of a Custom 24 (also a SoundAffect demo done by Tom). I can't believe I tend to prefer the clean tones of CE 24 over the Custom. To my ears the CE has more definitions - it has an amazing combination of clarity and bass which allows for pick attacks to be heard easier. But for the Custom, despite having the same pickups, it's kinda sweet, smooth, more bassy but has less clarity and details than the cheaper CE.
    So in my opinion the CE is not only differ from the Custom pricewise, but also tonal definition. The good news is that we can get a high quality PRS tones without having to go core level models.

The volume pots are all ways worth changing anyway as the aerospace grade ones are so cheap so appart from the pick ups what Warrants the other 900 pounds appart from profit ?

    I'm hesitating between this guitar and an ESP E-II Eclipse with SD pickups.

    • @manifestgtr
      @manifestgtr 7 років тому +1

      The custom 24 has been my main guitar for a long time. I've beat it to hell. It's been on tours, played untold numbers of weddings and functions and taught with 30 hours a week for over a decade. I've had to set it up MAYBE 5 times and once was just so i could level the frets that i'd beaten up so badly. There isn't a more reliable guitar on the planet. And this isn't coming from an eclipse detractor. There are few things sweeter than a real ESP eclipse

    • @SoundAffects

      This would be ideal for tonal versatility, being a two-humbucker model with coil-splitting, and the trem is super stable - but with this being mahogany/maple, and strats being alder/ash, they really are quite different - The PRS may have the advantage at warm, crunchy distorted tones, but if you prefer the sound of true single coils for cleans and blues, a strat may be your preferred option. I hope this helps.

    • @SoundAffects
      @SoundAffects  8 років тому +2

      +Robstafarian It wasn't a drive pedal - it was the drive channel of the Jazz Chorus - love it or hate it we wanted to show the amp as well. Great to think it fooled you into thinking it was a drive pedal though as the diet channel on the old JC was so bad.

    • @Robstafarian
      @Robstafarian 8 років тому

      SoundAffectsPremier Respectfully, I have never liked the sound of drive pedals (honestly, not one of the dozens I have heard). I think that one reason diode clipping is largely considered acceptable in valve amps is that most guitarists' ears have become accustomed to drive pedals.
      Personally, I hope that this era of affordable valve gain (e.g. the Jet City Custom 22, a collaboration with Martin Kidd) will engender a greater emphasis on dynamics.

      Yep if you're gonna get a Gibson go for a used one. They cost less and anything 2013 and after have sucked. But also check out the PRS SC245 (Basically a PRS version of a Les Paul, very good quality), and the ESP Eclipse guitars, or if you want to go for a very high quality custom made exactly to your spec guitar, you can go with a Carvin (aka Kiesel) California Single-Cut those are great and cost much less than a new Les Paul
