I just bought my 2014 Camry yesterday! Started with the shudder this morning and immediately hopped on google and UA-cam to find out the issue. After learning about the fix, I called my local Toyota dealership and they told me the warranty was extended to 3/16/22 under 150k mikes. I just dropped it off and got a loaner, should be done within a week!

Just reached 150,000 miles when my 2014 started shuddering. Cost me $2100 to have my torque converter replaced. Just had it done. If that's all I have to shell out every 150,000 miles I wouldn't call that unreliable. That's more reasonable than any other mid-sized sedan on the market. Heaven forbid you have a 2010-15 ford fusion. I've worked on plenty!

      True...
But when you buy Camry. You expect to have no issues what so ever. And I would say. Based on the amount of older Toyotas on the rode. 150k miles, car isn't even broken in yet.... but I guess with new and stricter standards from epa. Manufacturer are pushing to do whatever they can to get better gas mileage..

Update...... Don't overheat the 2AR-FE engine!!! There is no coolant level light so if you knocked some poor animal and put a pinhole in your radiator, you won't know until it's too late. Talking about those restrictions, there is no tolerance for ANY warping at all in the head. I may have totalled the old girl.

I bought my 2013 camry at 32K miles just before the full warranty was to expire. The transmission felt very "whacked" out so I brought the car to the dealer at about 35K miles. They told me the tranny needed to have its computer updated. Updating the computer didnt have any affect on the transmission and the shuddering transmission continued to get worse. So about a year or a few months before the extended warranty for transmission repairs was to expire I called many dealers and they said there was no recall on this but I needed to bring in my car to have it checked for $300 bucks. I mentioned that this was covered under the extended warranty but they said I still needed to pay $300. If there was nothing wrong with the Tranny why would they charge you $300 to check it. LOL strange.. Either way I should of paid if I wanted the Transmission repaired. I am just wondering now that my car has 125K miles on it will the trans just give out? Changing the fluids there and replacing it with real automatic transmission synthetic fluid did helps. Getting that Crappy Toyota transmission fluid out was a good idea. i guess we need to get past the Crappy Toyota brand also. :)

Thank you so much for posting both of these important "PSA" videos. My daughter now owns a 2013 Toyota Camry LE. I can't say that I have noticed the shutter yet, but I'm afraid it will occur just outside of the June 5, 2021 cut off. I went through a similar torque converter replacement with my Acura TL. My concern is that they will not do the replacement unless they can confirm the shutter. If I tell them it happens "intermittently" and occurring more frequently, do you think they will do the replacement? Or just do the software update hack? In other words, are they bound by Toyota corporate to "prove" the 2013 Camry exhibits a shutter before they will replace their defective torque converters, or will they allow the replacement as a preventative recall fix, knowing it will eventually have the issue?

I am the second owner of 2014 Camry with 88k miles. Shuddering problems started Oct 2021, went to a local Toyota dealer about the problem which I did not feel it until it was noticeable. The dealer said the car passed the warranty about 6-7 weeks, said can not provide any help. I called Toyota to ask for a good will repair since my Camry has a low mileage (warranty was given for 150K or 8 years which ever comes first). Toyota rep called me back and said sorry it is now your problem, you pay the bill (about $2000), we can't do anything about it since it passed the warranty about 2 months he said. Very rude guy. I am going to sell my 2019 Highlander as well. No more Toyota for me after their very rude attitude to loyal Toyota customer. I understand if my Camry had a very high mileage or passed the warranty many months but it has only 88k miles and passed the warranty only two months. Very disappointed with Toyota.

Same here. I have been going back and forth with them since November. S.O.L is what Im hearing. Keep all receipts! One day there has to be a class action law suit against Toyota. This is effecting way to many people. I had my 2012 Camry serviced only by Toyota. The exact place I bought it Certified in 2016. Of course right when The recall Ticket closed is when the shudder started happening. Went in for help and was told Nope. Not our prob. Now they are trying to tell me to replace the whole trani for around 7k. Going to get the service done. Just not by those snakes.
