i had/have same problem. Toyota camry 2012 SE, started at 140k. warranty expired. shops wanted around $3k to fix. I added lube gard and it stoped for a bout a year. car has 170k now and i am about to add another lube gard . i never changed fluids as the car is pretty beat up
I was experiencing a torque converter shudder on my 2014 Camry LE. I performed 4 drain and fills with Castrol universal ATF/CVT fluid. On the last fill, I added two tubes of Lubegard shudder fix and a bottle of Lucas transmission fix. I then had Toyota update the transmission logic. The shudder is gone and the transmission is shifting like new. The car has 240000 miles!
At what mileage did you experience this at . My 13 Camry has 208k miles and don’t have that issue (yet) Atleast
I have a 2012 Toyota camry le i have a small sudder around 35-45 miles and rpms jump a bit . Would i need a new transmission? & Should i do a transmission oil change ? Had the car since 60miles now at 150k and starting to have sudder problem
Hi Sir,
I have 07 Toyota avalon 3.5L with 217k miles. Fluid is clean… I did feel a shudder so I had it drain and refill plus filter done two years ago. Fluid is still good color. But I’ve Notice everytime (I drive highway about 90% of the time) I let my foot off the gas and press it again, it wouldn’t thud and accelerate. Could this be related to the converter? Or oil control valve preventing vvti to work smoothly?
That doesnt like a shutter,A shutter would most likely be felt around 40MPH & about 10-15% throttle..I would run the codes & see if theres any “pending “codes related to timing be too advanced and if so,It would be a VVTI issue
Great video.
Back story, i was looking into a '14 V6 Camary SE, one owner and 37K mi at a local dealership in HI.
I haven't driven it yet to see if it has the infamous shudder, butt..... after reading and seeing mostly YT videos and comments.
I feel the juice just isn't worth the squeeze.
I would agree😂
Was the car throwing any codes my car is doing the same thing it gets worst when its warm
No codes,And the shutter gets worse with time
Saludos en que lado sientes la vibración al conducirse a 40 mph + ??
Se siente todo el carro vibrar
Does the 2017 Camry have this issue too? Mine is at 85k miles and if I leave my neighborhood on a cold start and get on the main road and get up to 50 mph mine shutter’s slightly for 5-10 mins between 40-50mph. If I’m on the freeway I can feel it shuddering slightly consistently at 75-80mph, even after everything is at operating temp. I’m assuming I need to replace the torque converter. Any insight would be greatly appreciated
Its alot more common on the gen before that one BUT a shudder usually indicates at the converter,I would try having the transmission fluid replaced and the Transmission memory reset before getting the torque converter done since its pricey repair!
I have a 2012 Camry 79k I had the firmware upgrade in 2014 according to Toyota and recently I just had a slight shudder/vibration at 45mph I put new tires on which I needed but nothing changed then my local transmission shop recommended dropping the pan new fluid etc and now it runs like new again I never changed the fluid per Toyotas claim that its good for the life of the car? the fluid was dirty from now on every 30k I will be getting it changed at the shop its too much hassle draining it,filling it keeping it level and getting the right temperature ,my old Forrester with the external filter is so much easier.I feel like I dodged a bullet a new TC would be expensive for a car with only 79k.
@@missadda8890 I'm definitely suspecting dirty transmission fluid for sure. But like you said it's such a hassle going thru the technical way to do it. Thank you for sharing your success with trans fluid change. Was yours burnt by chance? What's crazy is mine is a 2017 with a shudder at 85k miles
This was a recall on some Camry's....
Thanks vvt
Toyota changed the torque converter in mine for free under the exteneded warranty coverage, but it didn't help. The shudder has only been getting worse with time.
It must be Transmission slip then i am just guessing as i am in the same boat. It jerks at shifting ,sluggish and all of sudden releases power...
Check axle
@@irfanejaz4180hi there, i hope you’re doing well. I have same problem with my car. I was wondering about your issue, did you fix it and how did you fix it. I appreciate your feedback.
From what i understand, if you own 2012-2014 camry you'll need to update software. If you missed the extended warranty, then out of pocket cost is $175. for the software update. But if you already have the shudder then you may need to replace the torque converter as well with another cost.
Very important is if you needed to replaced the torque converter per the shudder, still need the software update or else the shudder will happen again.
How much do you charge for just the upgrade and the complete package
Usually shops charge $140-180 an hour and its a 14 hours job or so
Hello, I have a 2014 Camry with 95,000 miles and I just recently started to experience the shudder. I went to Toyota dealership and they are charging me a total of $3,900 for labor and torque converter. I have a question for you Miguel, would it help if I change the transmission fluid and only get get the transmission update? I really don't have the cash to pay the full amount now. How many miles do you think my transmission will last if I don't replace the torque converter? I would really appreciate if you answered my question. Thank you.
What did you end up doing did it go away?
Hello, I have a 2012 Toyota Camry with this same problem.
How do I get the ECM update for the transmission after replacing the torque converter?
Also, if I don’t do this update, how long before I experience the same issue again with my transmission.
Thanks for any help and I’m really hoping to read your reply.
You can have your local toyota dealership do it,im not sure about any websites having it!
@@miguellechuga3338 Okay.. but how long would the new torque converter last if I can’t get the update?
My car is past 150k miles at this point, and I know the extended warranty by Toyota has expired by now.
Any idea?
That update is top help with shifting since when the shudder happens the car is trying to compensate,So the car woll still shudder or it will,The update “resets”The shifting memory
Just for the software update, quote from toyota dealer service $175.
Do you work at a Toyota dealer
Hey, I'm having a similar issue with my Camry, I was just wondering what's a fair price for a job like this. I just wanna make sure I don't get completely ripped off by the mechanic
It all depends what the mechanic hourly rate is,Dealership charge about 12-13 hours at $175 an hour in my area
So about 2k?
my local dealership said about $2,500 @@MIKExMASSACREx
Tengo una rav4 2009 y vibra entre 55 a 60 km
Does the 16 Camry 2.5 engine have this issue?
No it does not that year is all good!👍
@@miguellechuga3338 Are the Truestart batteries good or are there better choices?

@@lemmegetabitefam love it
How much was all this
Not sure labor is about 12-14 hours
Can share part number bro
You don't have to remove the transmission, just drop the sub frame on the driver side and you should have enough clearance to pop the old one out and replace it. Also don't forget to flash the new firmware!
I usually recommend a new front pump seal & rear main seal when I replace it boss!
WHats the cost ?
It all depends on what shop you
Go to
Just add the additive to all these Asian trans and shutter goes away
I mean at this point pull the engine and transmission out.
Hey man!theres no need just the transmission has to come out!
