I just have to add this. Yesterday my son and I went to purchase a used 2014 Camry LE. After a long test ride, putting it up on the lift to inspect the underneath, pulling out the spare tire and jack the very last thing we did was try to pair the phone with the radio. Guess what, the radio wouldn't pair, there was an issue with the touchscreen! I asked the salesman to get us a price on a new radio. $1000 installed OUCH!!! In our negotiation the dealer will install a new radio at no charge for us! All that to say without watching this video and remembering to try to pair the phone, we would have been out $1000. So again a VERY BIG THANK YOU!!! You helped save us $1000. Blessings to you!

Blessings to you as well. Thanks for the information. Bought my 2012 4cyl Camry in 2017 with 80k miles and now has 150k miles. Its been really great. Did transmission fluid change at 100k at dealer. Oil changes every 5000 miles. Recently changed battery and original alternator and the brakes. Did a 1600 mile trip and averaged 39 per gal hwy. Been blessed with no fluid or exhaust leaks. Only issue is the driver door lock actuator, which will be $500 to replace. No rush to replace can lock with key. Thanks again for info.
Was is a fully trans fluid change? Or u had to come back to the dealership more than once to keep changing the fluid since there’s still old fluid stuck in some parts of the car?
@@mark.namoco Just once. I'm almost at 175k now. Going to have trans fluid change again after putting another 75k. Car doesn't leak anything at all nor burn oil.

Just bought a 2014 Camry from a Toyota dealer, didn't notice shudder until i got home. A very firm conversation with the dealer and they covered the TC recall. runs fine now, despite the window for the recall closing a few weeks ago they still honored it.
I want to replace my 2004 Dodge Stratus for something affordable but as reliable as possible and the 2012-2014 Camry has been my best option so far, so watching your video has been really helpful because I wouldn't have imagined it could have so many issues. Thank you so much!
Sir I'd just like to say that because of you I am a Camry lover now. Purchased my first (Used) 2010 Camry in 2022 and began my MOD journey. I sold it last week and purchased a 2014 2.5V with 42,000 original kilometers, Mod plans that will happen over the next 6 months. My mechanic checked the car over with the computer and found Zero issues at all, It even had the original tires on it (First purchase were New tires) I look forward to my mod journey on my new baby. Thank you for all you do sir.
thanks for the video. wife and i have a '12 with 180k miles and a '14 with 280k miles. recommend turning off automatic door locks to save lock solenoids. we drive 50k miles a year for uber. tires brakes batteries and axles are the only things we've had to do. all normal wear items. no complaints! great cars with minimal problems! we drive the heck out of them!
Hey Rob Rides! thanks for the comment. Question. Do you still have these cars and if so, what mileage do you have on them? (I currently have a 13 Camry SE with 113k).
All my family drives and owns a toyota. My wife had her 2012 camry se for awhile and theres no problem other than water pump. I changed that already. I own a 2016 tacoma 4x4 sr5 and i daily it. No problem its all how you drive and maintaining it.
I own a 2013 Camry. Thank you for the tips. I have 108,000km on it and will be getting the transmission fluid changed at the dealership within the next 6 months.
4 cylinder 15% oil leaks , 12% coolant leaks, 10% transmission jerking, all very little, minor things, 8% door locks switch malfunction, Just saved you 11 minutes in about 30 seconds, thanks great videos
Thanks! You made me aware of the tc shudder. I had no idea. I thought maybe it was cv joints or something. I called my dealer and at first they checked and said we are showing no warranties left on your car. Then I did some more research and called back and said it’s called the warranty enhancement program ZE5. They found it and I qualify!! (2013 with 115K). My appointment is next Thursday! Thanks again, and I wish you much success in your endeavors!
THAT my friends is how you get what you're owed! I did the same thing the dealership was like where did you get this TSB? This is something they usually just send us as a courtesy.. yeah OK.. I had to call the NHSTA for this information on extended recalls.
I’ve owned a 2012 Camry LE for 5 years and traveled throughout California, Nevada and Arizona. Although she may be a plain Jane in the looks department, I’ve had absolutely ZERO problems. She’s been rock-solid. And yes, it’s a she haha
We are so grateful to you for telling us about this car. We will check all of your recommendations before we buy this car. I'm sure you've saved many of us from costly repairs.
The Lord bless you my friend...a few months back i bought '12 Camry 4cyl le when 31k miles, owned by older woman very well taken care off. You're video is very informative thanks!
After 100k anything is aceptable, however mi ‘13 Camry XLE , doesn’t have any problems, no leaks, no weird noise , no transmission problems, of course, I take care properly of my car , transmission serviced by myself every 30k, synthetic oil change every 5k, ANYWAY I REALLY APPRECIATE THOSE “warnings” IN ADVANCE !!
I recently bought a 2012 Camry se v6 with 47,000 miles on it. It’s been garage kept by an old lady for its whole life before I bought it (1 owner). Thank you so much for this video, I’ll be sure to keep all that information in mind! 😊
For anyone wondering about the transmission shudder, Toyota will cover torque converter replacement for free as long as it has not been 8 years from the date of first use, or 150,000 miles whichever comes first.
I'm sorry that's not true with the transmission I've got a 2012 Toyota Camry XLE took it to mobley and they're telling me that they cannot do anything because it expired in 2020 well I'm sorry but in 2020 everything was shut down due to covid-19. They still will not honor it they're telling me that they can't do anything about it I have went to the corporate office they're telling me the same thing they didn't my shift gear nobody has not called me back on that so as far as they're telling you that they will fix it that is not true
@@patporter1499 a Toyota dealership in Florida replaced mine in October 2020. The warranty still had another 10 months/35,000 miles left since the car was first driven off in August 2013. Off the bat, I explained word for word the issue I was facing verbatim straight from the TSB. After the diagnosis a few hours later, they were willing to replace the TC and reprogram. Car has not given me once single issue since then.
@@prandomable That's good to hear. I take meticulous care of my cars and learning about this issue after leasing a 13 2 weeks ago made me sick. If I change the trans fluid every 30k or so, think that'll keep the issue from happening? Good to hear a lotta people are not having this issue with their higher mileage stuff.
Have had my 2013 Camry hybrid xle and have had zero issues. I replaced the hybrid battery at 210k miles. So much respect to Toyota for their commitment to quality and longevity
After how many years did the battery die? Where and for how much did you get it replaced? Considering a 2013 XLE with only 60K miles in Cali but I heard that age kills it quicker than miles.
We have one and it’s a beautiful car. Just be careful with it. A few very tiny rust spots I am working on. You are right about the chips and things. So you can buy proper factory colour coded paint and apply minimally. It gets cleaned regularly and monthly home service things ( not mechanic things- better to pay for that!) We run the car on the highest octane gas - it’s a bit expensive but it drives so sweetly. The reviews I read criticise the steering, but honestly, the steering is fantastic. Most of all drive smoothly and don’t stress the engine and brakes. The emergency brakes are excellent and the seat belt thing locks properly. Seats are comfortable. Everything easy to clean. A nice step up from previous model ( I used to own 6cyl model) in certain areas. Paid a bit extra but over the life of car, good value. It’s a good size for the family. No need for suv! People criticise its looks but when you take care of them, I think they look really nice ( most cars do). Bought second hand last year (2020) 105,000 kms ( 65,000 miles) @ about $US $8000- bottom the range altise. Made in Australia! Thank you brother. Peace and best wishes.
My 2014 had the transmission shudder but I got the transmission fluid changed just under 50k and resolved the issue. Also, there is a service campaign out for the transmission shudder which covers it in case I have issues down the road. I currently have 81k on it and haven’t experienced the issue again. It’s a solid car and excellent in the snow due to narrower tires and weight distribution.
I've got a 2.4cl SE 2012 It works great. So far no issues for the last 8 years. Other the usual wear and tear ( Battery change every 5 years, a rear light bulb blow, oil changes and minor scratches on the body work) it's a durable dad mobile! >>>>> I met a cabby with a similar model and his has 800K miles on his, from his words he said the only thing he does on his is the usual maintaining at the dealership.

Thank tou for another well produced video/ There are a lot of good looking 2012 Camrys out there. Your video helps us verify which ones we should buy. Thanks again for exposing the problems and advising how we should care for this car.
I own a 2014 Camry SE, and received a TSB (transmission shudders when reaching the speed of 50 mph) and had the torque converter replaced at my local dealership. This video is very helpful to keep an eye on trouble spots! Thank you!
The dealer fixed it for free. They replaced the torque converter and calibrated the computer. Here is the link to get your car fixed under the enhanced warranty: www.tsbsearch.com/Toyota/POL14-10
Replacing the torque converter is a temporary fix, the root problem is poor transmission design. If I was you, I would sell your Camry yesterday, if not sooner.
I have a 2013 Camry XLE V6. Got 111,000 miles on it so far, so obviously haven't had any issues yet. Bought it with 78k on it a couple years ago. Great car, comfortable and plenty of power. Changing the tranny fluid tomorrow. Slightly late at 111k, but better than listening to Toyota's claim that it's a "lifetime fluid".
i fell for that 'lifetime fluid' until i got educated. ask toyota what they consider is the lifetime of a transmission in miles. they will give you a definitive number; usually the limit of their warranty. so, their definition of lifetime differs greatly with my definition and most likely yours as well.
Thanks for all the tips and advice, i have a 2014 camry se bought new took your advice and replace the transmission fluid at 64000 mls. no other issues so far.
I have noticed the SEs are the worst ones to chip in the front end the way the front is designed.. even on the new Toyota Camrys now The XLE and LEs are designed more aerodynamic and they resist chipping much better than the sport models...
@@jonpeterson4085 My 2020 Camry is Wind Chill Pearl.. The paint on it has a very nice depth.. There is nothing thin about the paint on it .. it is a 425.00 option..To touch it up you have to use two tubes of paint a base and a top coat..
It's so awesome to find this video; it is great!! I'm new to Toyota, by way of a low-mileage 2014.5 Camry SE and I'm looking forward to owning and driving this car for a long time! Thank you for your knowledge and honesty, it is much appreciated. May God continue to bless you and yours...🙏🏽❤
Hey AMD. Great video. Of course I wish I had seen this sooner but I am still glad that I saw it. I bought my Toyota Camry SE brand new in May of 2013. I never had any issues with the torque converter. I received the recall notice from Toyota in 2014 to bring in it for the torque converter shudder issue. Then it had about 20k miles on it. I had the recall done, no issues afterwards. In 2017 at 53k miles I had the the transmission fluid flushed (by my independent mechanic who is pretty good). He used aftermarket synthetic fluid for the flush. Again, no issues afterwards. Late last year ( in 2020) I started noticing that when I would coast between 40-45 miles an hour I would feel a sudden shudder then it would stop, then it would do it again. Living in NY I’ve hit allot of potholes over the years so I’m thinking hey, it’s my front end and I had better get it checked. I did and NO problem was found with the front end. It was then that I realized that I have the Torque Converter shudder issue that you referred to in this video. Now the car has 95k miles on it and shudders allot. I have an appointment with Toyota next week Thursday (9/25) for them to take a look at it. My question to you is this. Since they have to take part of the transmission apart, when the issue is fixed should I have them flush the transmission of the old aftermarket synthetic fluid that I put in there in 2017 and put the Toyota WS Tranny fluid in there. Or do you think doing this will cause damage? I am just concerned that mixing different types of tranny fluid will cause issues. Thank you for your time. Max.
Hi Max, Thank you for watching my video. The fluid will get replaced again and if you didn’t have issues with the fluid then it’s likely compatible. There’s a very good chance your car will be covered by the warranty extension if you bought the car new in May of 2013. The dealership will take care of it from there.
@@juanaraujo4852This might be a bit late but yes, it was totally free when I did it. I think there was a deadline back in 2021 but I did mine before that. I can report that after 4 years, it’s still fine and I have no issues
Thanks, looking at a 2013 to add to the family fleet this afternoon. Have an 06 that's been pretty solid. Good to know what to look for on this generation.
Great video, thank you so much! I'm about to go look at a 2012 Camry for my daughter to drive. With this information and some other I got, I feel I am armed with enough information to know if I am buying the right car.
I got a 2012 Toyota Camry XLE with a little less than 30,000 Miles away few days ago. I love it!!!!!! I have to fix my navigation system though, it keeps saying I'm somewhere in the U.S that I'm not. I'm thinking about taking it to the dealership or a mechanic.
Two issues worth noting with this model. The standard radio (not JBL) has a common issue with the screen not responding to touch around the edges. Mine is bad at the bottom and right side. Car has 37,000 miles on it now, so not like the radio has had a lot of use. Other issue of Camry's of this date range is that they got a poor rating by IIHS for small overlap test in 2012-2014 ('14 ones produced in 2013). The 2014.5 model had structural changes making that version IIHS rated "acceptable," so look for a "2014.5" on the B pillar..
Both are true. Though the screen edge issue was not as common on the earlier models and a lot more common on other Toyota radios but I’ve seen a few on this generation Camry. The safety rating is a subject I didn’t touch on because that’s not mechanical and that’s something for the perspective buyer to research on the car itself new or used. you are 100% right on the safety rating
i bought a 2014.5 camry from carmax and it had the screen issue you mentioned. a hack i used to play around there is to use the magnetic part of your Bank card. Cheers
Thank you for this valuable information, this helped me to buy a used 2014 camry.. Good that i chose camry as i was looking for cheaper cars, but worth the money, engine is smooth, and has great comfort while driving..
My 2014.5 Camry Le needed a new torque converter before I reached 45k miles. Thankfully it was under warranty... if they open your door and see that it was made during a certain time, you may be eligible for a new converter free of charge, as long as you’re within a certain mileage... this torque converter issue has a mile warranty time separate from your normal warranty mileage, so if you call a Toyota dealer they can probably check to see if you’re eligible for the free repair. 🤗👍
I bought a 2014 XLE last week and I don't have any problems in the info-tainement system (knock on wood) No lag, no reboot. I hope it stays that way haha
@@TheCarCareNutdid the 2012-2013 V6 engines ever have the torque converter shudder problem? I’m thinking about buying one but need to verify the V6 should be ok ..

Hi. Thanks for the video going to look at a 2012 with 37k for $6000 owner is 80+ year old lady who is unable to drive anymore. Plan on looking at all the items you spoke about. Thanks again.
I just bought a 2014 a few months ago and while shopping for one, _every_ car I test drove had the VVTi rattle. And a few were 2017's! Mine has it, had the intake cam gear replaced and the new gear does it, lol. I've spoken to one tech who said that it shouldn't cause a catastrophic failure (on the 2ARFE engine) and saw on several forums that most are just ignoring it. Crazy
The Car Care Nut I originally thought it was just a bad batch on the assembly line that day, but when some of the replacements went bad, I’m like huh?? I believe the driver’s door was replaced three times, rear driver’s side twice, both passenger side once each, and the trunk once. All were replaced under warranty. My extended warranty has more than paid for itself.
@@luptonpittman6520 It happens. There was rumors internally that silicone based hair products are causing these failures but that was never confirmed. I say it's just a bad supplier of parts. If the car runs out of warranty and another one fails I would actually try an aftermarket one to see if this one from a different supplier lasts.
Wow this video was much more helpful and honest than a similar video I watched from a youthber known as Masry Motors. That guy said at the end of the video to not by a 2012-2014 Camry because if you get the warranty work done the torque converter is going to fail again and again. Lol totally BS.
Not so fast! I bought a 2013 Camry se I4 brand new. Well taken care of. I had the recall for the torque converter shudder done in 2014. no issues until late 2020. The issue with the torque converter shudder started. Taking it back next week. Hoping it will get fixed correctly this time.
@@maxforever26 And how do you know it's the torque converter? Your vehicle needs to be inspected and diagnosed by a professional mechanic not just guessing or make assumptions.
@@svengali5003 First of all, did I say with 100% certainty that was the torque converter, no I didn't. I did some research, submitted a question to a qualified mechanic asked his opinion. Second, the last time I checked there was a difference between guessing, making assumptions and research. All sign's pointed to the torque converter being the issue. And lastly third, the car was taken into Toyota and checked out and IT WAS a torque converter issue. So next time think before you make comments on someone else's post.
@@maxforever26 You said the issue with the torque converter started. You were just guessing because you didn't actually turn a wrench to diagnose the problem. Big difference. It's very rare for any work to be repeated. Perhaps the job wasn't done right. AMD is a "real" Toyota Master Tech, he would of told you that. Otherwise he wouldn't of recommended the Camry from years 2012-2012. He littery worked on them. So he knows. Fantastic channel, and I love that you answer so many questions in the comments. Thank you for taking the time to do these videos, they are 1st rate! I have a 4cyl 2014 Camry LE, bought it new and so far it has has been a very good car. Had a small problem when it was new, I would occasionally loose all throttle response for a few seconds after a right turn. It took awhile to get remedied but it ended up just being a simple adjustment at the brake pedal. I know they are not perfect but I do love my Toyota's!
Hi AMD, I have a 2013 Camry XLE 4c. with just under 85,500 miles. I knew (thanks to this video) that this generation of Camry had a common problem with the torque converter causing a shudder that typically starts around 60k mi. so before I bought it in October 2020 with 58,200 mi. I made extra sure, to do everything I could to see if I could get the car to shudder multiple times while on a lengthy test drive. Since there wasn’t even the slightest hint of a shudder, I went ahead and bought the car. Within a week after buying the car, I had the transmission fluid inspected and changed at my local Toyota dealer. The mechanic and I both inspected the fluid and it looked good. I thought I had dodged a bullet until it started shuddering sometime after 70k mi. I thought the only fix was to replace the transmission, which I couldn’t afford, so I thought there was nothing I could do. Even worse, within the last week the transmission suddenly started noticeably hesitating/slipping when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd gear. Car Fax, KBB, Edmunds, Carvana, ThinkDriver, and Toyota never showed anything under “recalls”, so I was never made aware of the service bulletin to fix this issue until today, well past the 8 years of original purchase stated in the bulletin. I feel extremely let down and kinda screwed over, seeing I was never informed about the bulletin, even when checking several major trusted and “reliable” institutions. Is there anything I can do now, or am I just SOL? Thanks, Daniel
Some people seem to still be using the tsb to get the repairs from up above threads. Probably depends if you can sweet talk any dealerships to do it. Good luck

We have one and it’s a beautiful car. Just be careful with it.
A few very tiny rust spots I am working on. You are right about the chips and things. So you can buy proper factory colour coded paint and apply minimally. It gets cleaned regularly and monthly home service things ( not mechanic things- better to pay for that!)
We run the car on the highest octane gas - it’s a bit expensive but it drives so sweetly.

Replacing the torque converter is a temporary fix, the root problem is poor transmission design. If I was you, I would sell your Camry yesterday, if not sooner.

i fell for that 'lifetime fluid' until i got educated.
ask toyota what they consider is the lifetime of a transmission in miles. they will give you a definitive number; usually the limit of their warranty. so, their definition of lifetime differs greatly with my definition and most likely yours as well.
Torque converter was bad on my 2014 Camry. Extended recall warranty is 8 years after first purchase or before 150,000k miles.

Max.
Hi Max,
Thank you for watching my video.
The fluid will get replaced again and if you didn’t have issues with the fluid then it’s likely compatible. There’s a very good chance your car will be covered by the warranty extension if you bought the car new in May of 2013. The dealership will take care of it from there.
Thank you so much. This kind of info is why UA-cam is so awesome!

Cheers

My extended warranty has more than paid for itself.
@@luptonpittman6520 It happens. There was rumors internally that silicone based hair products are causing these failures but that was never confirmed. I say it's just a bad supplier of parts. i'm looking to buy a 2012 SE with 234,000 miles for $5K. said it was maintaned very well. but after this video , not so sure...have you had any of these issues?
Very valuable information. Many thanks.
Wow! This is so enlightening.. thanks
Hi AMD,
I have a 2013 Camry XLE 4c. with just under 85,500 miles.
Thanks,
Daniel
Some people seem to still be using the tsb to get the repairs from up above threads. Probably depends if you can sweet talk any dealerships to do it. Good luck
Hi! As a last resort contact toyota and see if they can help
@@TheCarCareNut Thank you, I’ll give that a shot.
@@715thug Thanks! I used to work at my local dealership and have a good relationship with the service manager, so your comment gives me a glimmer of hope. 😅
@@journeytowellness7096 How did you make out?
Thank you for the great detail in your video. My vehicle has the timing grind...I'm wondering how bad it is.
Could you take a video of the noise and email it to me?
Thanks for them tips , I will keep them in mind
prezo you’re welcome! Glad I could help
It was very informative video , Really appreciated
Great content, you really know the Toyota products very well. My 2012 Camry Hybrid XLE (with sunroof) makes the exact noise you mentioned in the video when I do a sharp right turn.
Shaokai Chen thank you! It’s very common on these models. I wouldn’t worry about it unless it bothers you. It can be fixed and you’ll never hear it again.
Hope it is not an expensive fix. Subscribed. I will finish watching all the videos in your channel pretty soon. They are very well made and informative. In a short word, addictive. Big thumb up!
Thank you for watching my videos! The repair doesn’t involve expensive parts and id figure around 4-5 hours of labor.
Thank you! Very informative.
