Thank you for this, Kambria. I think the EMDR / brain spotting, etc. could be a nice compliment to a treatment program that also utilizes a 12 step model. You never said that AA and NA don't work, but there is much more to it than "white knuckling"... working with others provides a positive feeling state and that is one of the key components to all 12 step programs. I don't think the 12 step inventory process is a bad thing either, as it looks at defects and assets... anyway - thanks for this. I will be in touch with you to learn more!
What if the person struggles to connect with those feelings in the therapeutic setting, like: "I am not feeling this right now, now I am calm, I only feel that in that moment" How do you enhance that?
It's Robert Miller's Feeling-State Addiction Protocol. There are a lot of resources for it online. Here's one: chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/emdrtherapyvolusia.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Feeling-State_Addiction_Protocol.pdf
I am a clinical Hypnotherapist over 20 years and LMFT. EMDR is a mild version of hypnotherapy and based on my extensive experience working as a clinical hypnotherapist and addiction population ,it is not recommended for addiction until further assessment done with person ‘s addiction. Please do not advise this until you are fully informed that person’s addiction with long history of substance abuse and the possibility of brain cell damages won’t be effective . In conclusion, this model is not effective in all addiction as you are generally stating it wont help people with addiction in all cases!
