Purchased the M50 Mark II six months ago and new to photography with two mini courses under me. This video has opened my eyes and given me a real understanding of the camera's capabilities. Truthfully, until this video, i was unaware of how little I new about my wonderful camera. I can see the light now, no pun intended. Thank you for your time and for your excellent and clear teaching abilities.
It's a year later and as a PhD student, I've been reviewing this small amounts at à time. (because of my intense class and study schedule). This video, coupled with your actual class that I purchased is outstanding. In my opinion, you literally surpass my college professors with your ability to teach. Your class was well worth the purchase. I'm still here reviewing, and it gets easier to understand. Thank you... thank you.
Michael. I gotta say this. I've been watching videos about the Canon M50 because I need to make vlogs for work. I'm at the 2:00 minute mark. If I don't make it past your 'throw the camera at the wall story' your video will have done me a huge service. The experts consistently offer great info. But they forget that these machines can be monstrously confusing and frustrating. Thank you for the empathy.
there are not enough likes in the world for this video. I have no words to describe the work done here. thank you so much. Merry Christmas and a happy new year.
I was like, “I ain’t going to watch this whole video, I’m going to skip around.” I CANNOT STOP WALKING THROUGH EVERYTHING LAST THING YOU DO! You’re gr8, man. Thank you so much for making this. Now I can understand my new investment WAY better!
If you own a Canon M50, this is the best two hours you can spend! I have a good understanding of photography, learning it in the 70's with a "match meter" all manual Olympus OM-1. What your video did for me was to dissect the somewhat complicated/convoluted menu of the M50 so that I could better navigate the controls to achieve the results I desire. Thank you so much for that.
I just wanted to say 10 months ago I bought a Canon M50 and watched this video. All I had was the kit lens. I've been purchased a couple crop sensor lenses and went to town learning the exposure triangle. Fast forward 10 months and my M50 is gone. Replaced by an 80d for backup and Canon EOS R for my main camera. I'm now shooting on a 24-70 F2 8, 24 to 105 F4, 70-200 F2 .8, 85 1.8 and 35 1.4. I'm doing photography professionally now. I have a studio in my house. I've mastered Lightroom and am intermediate in Photoshop. I can do Basics like layers, masks and I'm now getting into doing composites. I work 8 hours a day and come home and study for 4. And then on the weekends just take hundreds of pictures and edit like crazy. I have a 4 light Studio setup 3 strobes for my house and one strobe to take on the road with me. I've got a series of softboxes and grids. I'm going to confess I got frustrated at times and it's a lot to learn. Well once you learn something nobody can ever take that away from you! I know this was kind of a long comment but I wanted to say thank you Michael for making tutorials like this because in the beginning when I was just learning the settings on my Canon M50 and knew nothing and I mean absolutely nothing about photography videos like this got me started and to where I am today. And I plan on continuing to grow every day for the rest of my photography career!!! Thank you again Michael
This was great. After weeks of research and countless hours of UA-cam review-watching I bought the M50 and received it today. This video got me right up to speed very quickly.
I don't have any experience in photography but needed help to figure out the M50 and fortunate to have found this video. AMAZING. I have been watching it over and over and feel I gained months of mistakes and frustration. Thank you Thank you.
Just a note of thanks for the amount of time you put into this Micheal. When people ask me to recommend a specific camera, I always tell them to look at UA-cam reviews. And in this case, watching this video sealed the deal for me. I did chuckle a bit, with all the focus being on a beginner camera - it really is beyond beginner, but Canon allows new users to keep things basic while you learn how to use all available features. Most reviewers will tell you Canon menus are logical and intuitive. It's so easy to jump between using my M50 and my 5D. My M50 is a travel camera...especially when I am with a group. Light and smaller, it's a joy to carry around. And the best part, is that Canon made the adaptor to allow usage of EF-s and EF lenses. I put that adaptor on and tested my 70-200 L lens and my 16-35L...and the output is simply excellent. Another lens to recommend is the 40mm F pancake - ultra thin and yet as crisp as the nifty 50 , 50/1.8. Now, if only the adaptor provided an added control ring to use as an aperture control (like Canon did with the R5/R6 adaptor).
Bought M50 about three years ago. Put the camera aside, going on a trip again and found your presentation on you tube for a refresher course on how to use my M50. Thanks
Here's the thing: the manual that came with my M50, and with all other cameras I've owned, are virtually useless if you compare them to these videos. Michael, your channel is a superlative resource for learning how to use any of the cameras you've covered. Just today, I came back to this video to refresh my understanding of its tracking autofocus feature. So simple. Merely expand the Show More timestamp menu, pick the topic from the list and start watching. Absolutely top-notch in every respect. Keep up the great work!
So I am an hour and a half into this tutorial and it is by far the best I have seen! Thank you so much for creating this video! For years I have shot in AV mode and never felt like a "real" photographer...You helped change my mind. Thank you!
WOW! You can be very proud of yourself Michael, your video is so well done. I've purchased the M50 Canon as a Xmas gift for my wife, your excellent video will be a must watch for her. Your video will keep me out of the dog house... if it was up to me to explain, that''s where I'd be. Your video is going to be a valuable knowledge base for her in broadening her photography skill. She's very KEEN and I'm waiting in anticipation to see the results of her work. A big thank you to you for your most informative and professional video and thanks to Canon for the M50. Job well done all round. From Australia...
Really! a great job of explaining both camera concepts and the M50 specifically. I knew you were a pro when you pointed out that ISO was not part of exposure. Probably 90 plus percent of the lecturers on you tube put it in the "Exposure Triangle" where it doesn't belong. Also thanks for saying Iso instead of I-S-O. When I listen to people explain elements of photography and constantly call it I-S-O instead of one word "Iso", I immediately tune out everything else they are telling me. Also along the same line, you correctly noted that you are not changing the sensitivity of the sensor but rather noting that you are amplifying the signal the sensor provides. You obviously know your stuff. I encourage anyone who wants to learn photography to listen to your posts and take your courses if you offer any, Good job.
This is fantastic! I normally use my 80D and I purchased the M50 for blogging but still wanted to use this as a smaller backup camera. So rather then get frustrated I ran to your page to help me. Thank you for making me not regret getting the M50
A truly excellent and thorough drive through the all importants. Building it from the base was brilliant. It's rarely seen in this field where UA-cam searchers are distracted by "Top 10 Hacks For Your M50" or whatever and we learn to flit around settings but not really getting INTO them. A couple of things, though: 1:47:17 - in Custom Functions, Release shutter w/o lens allows you to use a third party manual lens (such as my Kamlan 28mm f1.4) Great recommendations on tripods but for more out-and-about I have a Vanguard Veo A-264TR tri-foot monopod with a GH100 pistol grip ball head. Really steady, far more flexible than a tripod, smaller and lighter too. I either carry it in my hand or strap it with velcro to a rucksack. And maybe a footnote on the speedboosters. A distraction from the rest of this great video, perhaps, but they significantly add to the functionality of the camera and the lenses you work with. The EF 50mm f1.8 is a great example. The APS-C crop factor of x1.6 ordinarily gives you a full-frame equivalent of 80mm. The x0.71 speedbooster will bring that back to around 57mm but now you can also drop down to f1.2. I've yet to find a downside to using it
one word: FANTASTIC! This video is soo good! I learnt a lot Michael! Thank you very much! I just subscribed to your channel and will recommend your videos to all my friends! I am a composer but just got a M50 and right now I am in love with Photography...specially macro photos. Greetings from Blue Mountains, Australia!
Just received my m50 MK2 and boy was this a lot but I’m happy to have picked up on a lot of what you were teaching. This was definitely a intro class to say the least but I learned so much. Thank you for putting this information on UA-cam for us beginners to learn! Cant wait to play with my camera and learn more about the craft of photography!
I haven't watched the full tutorial yet, skipped to a section that has been very frustrating to me and learned SO MUCH! The canon connect app- wow! I'm looking forward to watching the entire tutorial!
FANTASTIC teaching, direction, and examples! .. On a 10 pt. scale, I'm probably a 4+ with my knowledge of 35mm Photography... I knew the concept basics but it was the camera controls that wowed me. So I went thru your tutorial section by section, learned, made notes, and all of a sudden, "Light bulbs were going off in my head"! … THANK YOU, so much for this video and instructional effort that you have made... WELL DONE!
Wow..just got my camera two days ago and as a beginner, this is a great resource. So often, others forget that beginners need a true breakdown of material, and someone to provide real substance like what you've presented here. I'll be watching over and over with my notebook handy. Thank you!
Man, I'm only halfway through this video and but I had to stop to leave this comment. Great tutorial and so easy to follow... I can't believe how much I learned about this camera in just about an hour!
I just bought my Canon m50 and of course I needed some help and came across this channel and OMG this has been the BEST teaching ever!!! I subscribe to your channel so I can learn more. You are awesome 🙌🏼❤️
NFC doesn't work on iPhone. Using the Bluetooth feature to live view and download pics to phone is faster than the WIFI feature it seems. Matching the location information in the picture with social medias capability to mention and "check in" at a location when posting could very well optimise your visibility on the platforms it seems also.
Great overview of how to get the best out of your M50. Recently purchased a Laowa 9mm F2.8 ultra wide, manual focus only lens in M mount for my M50 and, after attaching to my camera, couldn't get the shutter to fire, even though I set the dial to Manual mode. No matter what I did, my M50 just wouldn't take a photo with this new lens attached. So, remembering your YT M50 tutorial, I scrolled through your time line guide, found your custom function section(C.FN) at 1:46:49, which immediately showed me that I needed to enable C.FN setting #3 for "release shutter without lens." Voila! Problem solved. I cannot thank you enough for this video.
I just want to say THANK YOU!!! I am far from tech savy, and have been staring at this camera for days trying to figure it out. This video was great for a newbie like myself. Thank You. I plan to watch it again, to make sure I got everything.
thank you very much from Italy, I was demotivating because it seemed too complicated and I thought I was wrong to buy a mirroless. instead now I'm really excited. I want to try to take pictures as soon as possible
I just bought me the M50 for an upcomming event, so we can take quality pics and videos ourselfs, I glad you made this video because I had no idea what the thing is capable of. I probably have to see it a couple more times to fuly understand it because it's a lot to take in fo a noob. There is a whole new world openingup for me and quite like it!! Thax man
Dear Michael, i mis in your tutorial about de Canon M50 the explanation about the Bluetooth connection for Canon BR-E1 Remote | Setup | Pairing maybe for a next tutorial?
Wow, this is an incredible resource for a prospective M50 purchaser. I am very impressed with this camera’s ability. Thank you for making this available.
Michael, thanks for this awesome video!!! I was inclining to buy a used M50 from MPB in the UK, about £330, and your video persuaded me to take the plunge. I've ordered it and am looking at moving into the world of mirrorless cameras after wavering for a year or two.
This was useful!!great video.. I just got a killer deal on a barely used M50.I added a smallrig cage for more grip, also got a speedbooster and finally,I use my EF 17-40mm L f4 USM and I have lots of fun with it.
This has been fantastic. I’m completely new to photography having only ever used my iPhone. Now have the M50, and this video has been a godsend!! Thank you. New subscriber!!
Really the best crash course I've been able to stomach. This tutorial is gold, filled with useful information and really worth one's time. You are an amazing teacher. Every detail you explain and demonstrate so well. I'm just getting into photography now with my Canon M50 and hope to take your crash course you've mentioned earlier in the video in the near future. You really make one feel that photography is possible. Thanx again.
Hi I have a question please about Canon M50 I am trying to connect the camera to the laptop without cabil (Micro HDMI cable) so that I can see live output on my laptop.. via (WIFI) or any connection method that broadcasts the video live to big screen wireless Would you help me please ? thx 🥰
About to watch this. I have the ef-s 55-250 stm with the adapter. No matter which I try, av, p, A+....I can't seem to nail the focus. I even cycle between af points and one shot, servo. This is also mostly of birds in my back yard. Getting really frustrated lol. I'll take a deep breath and watch this video. Probably end up buying your crash course too.
@Michael The Maven. 19:00. The Movie Recording Size option show 5 Sub options. I bought my Canon EOS M50 last week - manufactured in 2018 like all same model available in the European market as per today- and it has only 4 Sub options for Movie Recording Size. What is the exact name of the camera used in this tutorial? And in which year was it manufactured? Thank you for this great tutorial, it is the best out there.
This is an excellent tutorial. My M50 arrives tomorrow, but your tutorial is already helping me with features I had never used on my old G1X (mark I). Thank you!
Oh my goodness! Im a total noob who just bought this camera at costco for vacation photos. I was struggling with all the auto pop ups and so many choices. I was overwhelmed. Your video is exactly what is going to save my newbie vacation pics. Set to av I already see a vast improvement and it's way less stress. Thank you😁
Michael, one word. AWSOME. I am totally new to this technology and up until now have just used a point and shoot camcorder for my youtube channel but wanted to improve the picture quality and this video has been amazing for me. I spent the whole day yesterday going back and forth to get my head around all the things to help me understand the camera. I will do a quick unboxing video to show my subscribers my latest toy and will add the link to this video in the comments so they can all benefit from this tutorial. Very many thanks for taking a lot of time to produce it👍
Best tutorial and settings I have found. Just got an M50 today and I was looking for setup videos on the M50. Thank you so much for this great and amazing tutorial. I will put it to test on my next mukbang video. You have earned my subscription. Thanks once again
This is a great tutorial!! I just bought me a m50 for videos but I thinking learning everything about the camera is better than to just go into video mode and do videos. This turtialkis amazing and help me out a lot! I will be recommending your channel and this video to the people I know who wants to get better of learning about this camera and other things as well.
Thanks so much Micheal. I did purchase the Crash course and it have really educated me on cameras all together and especially my EOS M50. I've ordered the Maven lavaliere mic, screen protector, cleaning cloths, one of the lens for vlogging from this video, the tripod ( I purchased already and wish I would've waited till I watched this video because I ended up spending 230.00 for it) the Dust aid kit from amazon, Soft light kit including background drop ( got great Deal but purchased 2 more soft box lights, recommended in those courses. Thanks so much and I will be doing a review about all of the equipment. Again THANK YOU SO MUCH
Hello, I hope you are well I have a question! How to increase the shooting time with the M 50 I would like to exceed 29 minutes 59 but I don't know how do you have a tip? Thank you very much For your help you were a great help to me for the M 50 thank you very much
Me watching this video is like Bartholamu Hunt learning his letters. Get 20 minutes in and I'm like, "enough for tonight, do you want my head to explode!"
Purchased the M50 about 3 mos ago. I know very little about photography or the M50. I continue watching this video, and invested in your downloadable class for the M50 for $49. Wow...so much great instruction worth every penny!!! Thank you.
Don't scare them by telling them they have to learn stuff lol Great video tutorial! Your a good person, pretty much gave it all away for free. I got in to photography 1969. You thought no youtube was hard, try no internet at all. And camera's were totally, totally different back then. I was using a Pentex in high school then moved up to Nikon who was King back then. All I had was 1 year of photography in HS and learned the rest on my own. I started out with full mechanical manual 35mm cameras. No electronics in the camera. There wasn't even a battery! No program mode, AV, Shutter priority, none of the stuff we all take for granted these days. I had to learn it all by trial and error. And because it was film, I didn't know what I had until I developed and printed my film. I had a crude but workable darkroom in my closet. There was no Photoshop, but I could still do most of the stuff PS does in the dark room. I remember when electronics started taking over 35mm cameras. All the older photographers back then rejected every improvement and claimed we ruined photography. The last straw was auto focus lenses lol. I embraced the technology and loved it. How ever I became one of those old timers when we started doing digital. It took a couple of years for me to enter the digital world. But I'll tell you what Michael, you are so right about the camera is just one element. It's just a tool, like a brush is to a painter. Can everyone be great painters? Of course not. Even if we have absolutely the latest and greatest tool, it will not make us a great artist, or photographer. It takes skill. With the skill, you could use any tool, even a simple point and shoot, your pictures will be 100% better then a person with a high end camera that has very little skills in photography. Sorry for the long winded comment. I could have just said, nice video, but wanted to share my take on it. Take care, and yes, absolutely great video :)
wow! you just made my day. just picked up my m50 and need to learn for vlogging, podcast and course creation. My only last question is should I use my XLR mic via 2i2 or get a dedicated shotgun rhode mic????
THANK YOU for sharing your expertise and knowledge with the masses. You have done mankind and the photography industry much good. Just got my Canon M50 a few days ago and I really have taken a major leap after seeing this video....

This is by far the most helpful tutorial I’ve ever watched
By far, watched many on UA-cam but this is No1

So great to hear from you Dion! What a story and congratulations on your hard work! U made my day
This is awesome man.
The quality and effort of this video are fantastic. It is hard to believe it is UA-cam free.
Thank You,
This was great. After weeks of research and countless hours of UA-cam review-watching I bought the M50 and received it today. This video got me right up to speed very quickly.
Great to hear Jon. Thank you for joining.

Very informative video. i watched it twice. recommend it to all who have m50 or even m50 mark ii.
Bought an M50 two years ago and have barely touched it. Your very first tip at 5:08 has me interested again. I am here for the next 2 hours
This tutorial has been such a help for me as an owner of the M50 mark ii. Clear, concise, informative and inspirational. Thank you Michael.
So I am an hour and a half into this tutorial and it is by far the best I have seen! Thank you so much for creating this video! For years I have shot in AV mode and never felt like a "real" photographer...You helped change my mind. Thank you!

WELL DONE!
Thank you Jerry
This has to be the best camera tutorial I've come across. Thanks for taking the time to create it.
Nice
Great video. The crash training you mention is this in addition to this video, if so where is the links please
oops I got it
your one of the best , patient teachers. in the world of youtube that is a Joy!!!
Thank you so much. I have binged this, watching each section once without camera and once with. So well put together. Much appreciated.
Watching your tutorial while setting my Canon M50 in December 2020
Wow..just got my camera two days ago and as a beginner, this is a great resource. So often, others forget that beginners need a true breakdown of material, and someone to provide real substance like what you've presented here. I'll be watching over and over with my notebook handy. Thank you!
Thank you M
Man, I'm only halfway through this video and but I had to stop to leave this comment. Great tutorial and so easy to follow... I can't believe how much I learned about this camera in just about an hour!
Thank you Tosin
I just bought my Canon m50 and of course I needed some help and came across this channel and OMG this has been the BEST teaching ever!!! I subscribe to your channel so I can learn more. You are awesome 🙌🏼❤️
Absolutely brilliant perfect for new owners of the Canon M50 and digital camera beginners
Wow - this video is amazing. This has to be the best camera tutorial I've ever come across. You certainly earned my subcreation
unbelievably i did finish watching the whole video, nicely done
This is by far the best tutorial I have come across...you help me understand the M50 and photography on a whole.
thank you very much from Italy, I was demotivating because it seemed too complicated and I thought I was wrong to buy a mirroless. instead now I'm really excited. I want to try to take pictures as soon as possible
Great stuff, man. The internet is an awesome place.
Best video on M50, well illustrated details and more details.
M ;
Simple. The most effective 2 hours of camera settings I had. Thank you for this :)
Michael, thanks for this awesome video!!! I was inclining to buy a used M50 from MPB in the UK, about £330, and your video persuaded me to take the plunge. I've ordered it and am looking at moving into the world of mirrorless cameras after wavering for a year or two.
This is by far the best and most complete M50 tutorial I came across. Thank you very much for creating this content.
Thank you Jake! nice to meet you!
Dear Michael, thank you. I just purchased a m50 and I'm sure I will try your recommended info.
Thank you so much
This is a MASSIVE help. Thanks for taking this piece by piece.
Hi
I have a question please about Canon M50
I am trying to connect the camera to the laptop without cabil (Micro HDMI cable)
so that I can see live output on my laptop..
via (WIFI) or any connection method that broadcasts the video live to big screen wireless
Would you help me please ?
Do you have AF on in the lens. It is the switch on the lens.
Likely because you’re on PAL not NTSC
Great video! Thanks! One negetive om my new m50. The kid charger does not work with a battery bank. A real problem while backpacking.
best review about Canon EOS M50 i have seen so far
Ive had my m50 camera for a year. Im just gutted I only came across this vid now. Very super useful indeed.
This is an excellent tutorial. My M50 arrives tomorrow, but your tutorial is already helping me with features I had never used on my old G1X (mark I). Thank you!
Bought my canon EOS M50 yesterday, love your tutorial , great work , thank you !!!

You're the man Michael. Thanks for taking the time to make this for us.

Fantastic video. I've watched so many of your videos and ALWAYS came out with new and valuable knowledge.......Thanks Again!!!!!
THANK YOU for being so clear in your explanations. Very helpful. And thanks for no drama and music. Just clean clear information.
Again THANK YOU SO MUCH
Thank you for your support!
@@MMaven You're welcome, continue to educate!

Me watching this video is like Bartholamu Hunt learning his letters. Get 20 minutes in and I'm like, "enough for tonight, do you want my head to explode!"
I bought my camera almost two weeks ago. I know nothing about this camera and photography but this video is helpful.
Purchased the M50 about 3 mos ago. I know very little about photography or the M50. I continue watching this video, and invested in your downloadable class for the M50 for $49. Wow...so much great instruction worth every penny!!! Thank you.
Mahn'i tmac thank you so much for your support!
@@MMaven most welcome, I sincerely mean it!
M50 Mark II new owner here. :) This was extremely helpful! Will be revisiting this tutorial soon. Thank you so much, Michael.
I'm having to watch this in chunks day by day, but I am watching !
This is exactly what it’s for: at your own pace
Michael, thank you very much for this. Awesome tutorial bro...all the best to you.
Get the Rode VideoMic NTG. Trust me.
This was super useful. I’ve bought the crash course, because I want more of this. Thank you so much for the work you’ve put into this.
Thank you so much for your support Brendan! I appreciate you!
