I've been playing since I was 17, back in high school. I played in a band once, didn't like it. I'm a "bedroom guitar player", who probably has more bad habits than I can count, and never learned how to read music. I play what I feel, and it's me. My expression. Catharsis defined.
My oldest gear is my 2003 OLP in the shape of Eddie's real guitar, the Musicman 5150. It's purple. It's awesome. It is the conduit for my expression. I have 2007 Squier 51, and a 2015 Chapman ML-1, which is emotional for me, because it arrived days before my father's cancer diagnosis. He left us just over a year later.
It's amazing how these pieces of wood and metal mean so much to us, and give us so much joy, and yet help us live through pain and agony.

My oldest gear includes an original tweed Bassman, and tweed Princeton, both late 1959 by the date codes, and a 1937 Kalamazoo KG-21 archtop, in addition to a '64 Epi Coronet. Pedal-wise, I did have a Maestro FZ-1S fuzz, which seems to have disappeared, but still have an original Dr. Q and Y-Triggered filter, a Shin-Ei Companion fuzz, and recently acquired a Korg Mr. Multi.
The Bassman continues to be one of the best stories ever, and proof of the divine. Near 30 years ago, I was poking around a pawn shop, situated less than 100m from the very best and biggest music store in the region, and couldn't believe my eyes when I say the Bassman, looking every bit its age. The price tag was $40. I looked around back and saw that it only had one power tube, so no one could try it out, and had an empty slot where one of the 4 original P10R speakers used to be. I mumbled something about the missing speaker, and the clerk did some quick mental math. "Hmmm, only 3 of 4 speakers left". "Thirty dollars", he said. "Sure thing", said I. I plunked my money down, walked calmly out of the store with the amp, like it was no big deal, put it in the trunk and drove out of that city *so* fast, you'd think the local drug cartel had found out I'd sold them bags of corn starch posing as cocaine.

I’ve got a 1984 Ibanez roadstar in a sort of flame burst blue/black. I know it’s not that old, but my dad bought it new when he was in a band, and when he gave it to me he said “don’t sell it, keep it and play it”. It’s probably worth nothing, but it’s a cool thing to own.

Greetings back. I've been somewhat playing guitar for fifty years but could never perfect a bar chord and thought i could never do that ;that there must be something wrong with my hand. About 2 months ago I ran across a entry level tutorial you did. You imparted a simple "trick" that changed my ability to progress. I'm grateful for your sort of off the cuff remark that rehabilitated my want and desire to get competent at guitar. I'm still watching the one episode over and over but have made gain ten times over. i consider you an asset to life. Press on , Tom G

That man who gave you the PRS, I want to hug him. That’s quite a sacrifice. I’ve never witnessed anybody giving such a high end guitar as great as that one away as a gift. Keep in mind that professional guitar players don’t really count since they are advertising for them. PRS, Gibson, etc, will give their guitars away if it benefits them. That mans giving was a straight up sacrifice. Nothing in return nor any hidden motives for the instrument just a thankful giving heart.

Interesting video, thanks. Nice to have you back making content again. My oldest gear is difficult to determine - I have an Audition guitar, a Kay bass, a National bass and a couple of badgeless Kawei guitars from the 60s, and there's no way to know when each was built. Someday I hope to have a guitar older than myself - which would have to be an acoustic unless I win the lottery.

I own around 14 Chapman guitars. Most of them are Legacy models, which for the price are the steal of the century. I took a chance on your brand and Riff City Guitars and am 200% satisfied with everything. Best guitars for the price point that I've found. I've been buying and selling guitars for 20 years (G.A.S. on a major timeline) and love the ones I own. Keep your chin up through all the crap going on. You have achieved more than I could imagine over the last decade and deserve all the blessings you receive. Love what you do and love your guitars! We all run into bad luck and mishaps, it's an inevitable part of growing older, but one day it may inspire something, like a song, which will then inspire people, thus creating the cycle once more. I value your content, I enjoy your content, I will be here until the end when as you once quoted you will have a gandalf beard and no hair, I'll be right there with you. We are the same age but my gear is quite a bit older. My Steinberger GM4T is over 30 years old. Got lucky there. I sure as hell couldn't afford one today. Bought a Jackson Rhoads back in the 90s because of Randy but also Kirk and Dave. Still have that. Also have an H&K Tubeman V1 preamp/pedal from '91. It has a 12AX7 in it and it shreds. Somewhere, I've got a little Peavey Audition Chorus. The clean channel is as good as I've ever heard from an amp this size. Distortion channel sounds like the tone from Testament: The Ritual. What a time for metal the 90s were.

My buddy/ex-drummer called me up one day about six years ago saying he had a surprise for me. Turned out it was an old, beat up parlor guitar he'd found in an dumpster and kept. He claimed it was from the seventies, but I googled around and it soon became clear it was actually from the mid-late 50's. The thing is so cracked you can't tune it to standard without it falling apart, but it's amazing for playing slide. Really glad my friend happened to walk past the dumpster that particular day

Seeing a smiling Rob is brightening my day, I really hated those dark times that he went through.
I hope that I'll be able to fly to NAMM next year, so I can get to see him, just to talk to the great man that is Rob Chapman.
    Say strong, Guitar Hero.

You can look up the serial numbers of these Boss pedals. The oldest piece of gear that I own is a MIJ Boss HM-2, the serial number says it was made in 1984.

Those DiMarzio 'The Chopper' pups are amazing. Really good selection for the neck position combined with a hotter bridge, but also is a great bridge pup replacement that balances well with most stock pups in the neck and mid. Have it in the neck on a Peavey EXP superstrat (combined with a Fred in the bridge) and also using one for the bridge on a MIM strat. Truly excellent pickup!
