It's interesting to see two people misunderstand what the other person needs. He needs her to understand that he made an informed, logical decision that was grounded in her welfare. She needed him to show some level of humanity/discomfort in hurting people as badly as he did. That's why it's not resolved and why she's still so uncomfortable. It's not just that it was violent it's because that level of violence didn't evoke any emotional response from Ray at all.

Secondly, he wants legal access to his daughter. And if he starts hooking into people with his daughter watching, she'll go home, tell mum, and the court will stop him seeing his daughter. It's calculated with him, because he's a borderline sociopath.

From a tactical point of view he did absolutely nothing wrong. And he has the experience to back it up. He knows aggressive people when he sees them and he knows it's better to end such a conflict quickly rather than letting it escalate and possibly cost more in the end.
But from a societal modern point of view he was the aggressor, because he sees and knows things most don't wanna know. They just see violence and someone who seems to use it to solve all his problems. Which isn't the case for Ray, mind you, he's pretty good at separating his two lives. But try to convince the rest of the world of that without telling anyone where you got all that experience from. ^^

He's 100% correct and he can see a violent confrontation a mile away. She has a history of abuse by a violent man, so any display of violence is triggering to her. Perhaps his darkness is what attracted her to him in the first place, but she realizes that oh no, he's another violent man. She doesn't know he'd never lay a finger on her, all of his greatness is overshadowed by her fears. The point here is that Ray lives and act a certain lifestyle that comes with the territory that doesn't leave a lot of room for a peaceful life. • @mas8171
    @mas8171 6 місяців тому +4

Your right, they are talking on two different levels. But to get a bit deeper - violence isn't, "just another option". Ray is always living/moving in the color zones of awareness.... white-yellow-orange-red (white being safe and red being very dangerous). It's literally how he lives and survives in his world because he is a predator - it has become a totally natural way of living for him. Which is completely the opposite of most people who are just sheep and completely unaware of their surroundings which is the white zone because they don't (normally) ever have to be worried for their safety - and when they should be worried (yellow-orange) they don't have a clue. So it's completely natural for Ray to always be in a tactical evaluation mode when out moving through society. So, his response to her question is so natural to him - he analyzed the threat and formulated a plan of action (violence) that was successful for both him and her. But because she is so unaware of her surroundings (a sheep) while he is a predator (wolf) - they cannot communicate nor relate to one another when it comes to this situation - which is why this scene is so good

Completely the opposite. Anger and violence is emotional. Talking it out is calm and compromise is logical. The most disturbing insight his answer provides into his thinking is that he can't envision an outcome without violence. He assumed that if he didn't inflict violence first, they'd inflict violence on him. He assumes the worst outcome, the worst in people.
Furthermore, he may not even believe his own answer. It's very likely his way to rationalize violence. People who are habitually violent or explosively angry get off on it. It's a rush for them. We've all known people with anger issues (and some have unfortunately known violent types), and they're triggered by fairly minor things that the overwhelming majority of people can handle calmly or brush off / mostly ignore altogether. Like someone momentarily blocking your car.
She represents the societal norm. He didn't really consider her suggestion that he could've talked to them, he just blew right past it with his justification. He won't or can't truly consider the norm. He's broken; his reaction to problems is anger and violence by default. She sees that in his justification of his violence.

Both people here have completely valid perspectives. Unfortunately for ray that the relationship didnt work out, but like he understands, thats life.
She saw herself reliving her situation of being a victim of DA and chose to not to put herself in those situations by preemptively ending relationships where she thinks it could be the same. Thats her way off defending herself due to a past trauma.
Ray has a vastly different way on how to deal with those situations given his own childhood trauma. Rays method while ultraviolent to some, is his own way of responding to aggressive rapidly escalating situations which prioritizes himself, friends, and family over strangers.

I don't think it has anything to do with sex. His entire mindset is based on the underlying belief that the confrontation will turn violent and thus he is justified in striking first before he is numerically at a disadvantage. Her problem is that this assumption is one that a violent person would make.
His decision making is correct, if and only if, you assume violent confrontation was inevitable. Many people who utilize violence in a profession make poor decisions using exactly the thinking he did. This is particularly prevalent with police officers and other professions that demand compliance.
He's a hit man, before that he was in the army, he openly sees violence as a means to solve problems and also openly believes in bullying bullies. He will always be capable of justifying his violence. Neither of them are wrong per se, they are simply looking at the situation from different lenses, and those lenses have little to do with their sex and everything to do with how much they see violence as an acceptable measure in this situation.
There are plenty of women who would cheer his solution here.

People who are fortunate enough to not grow up in or around violence just can’t ever understand it and/or how it changes the brains of those who are “less fortunate”. We never got out of fight or flight mode, we’re underdeveloped and it’s beyond cognitive; that’s why therapists can’t help us, it’s not emotional, we can’t be rehabilitated, our brains were retarded through trauma, its primal genetic expression.
It’s not a twist of Cain problem like anger or rage. It’s a sons and daughters of Cain, and cities of Cain epidemic and the realization (if you’re “lucky” to survive to that level of court appointed enlightenment) that you don’t even know what good is, it never knew you; but you do know that if you had it, you couldn’t hold it, because you don’t even want it.
A house is not a home. A neighborhood can have pocket fences, or it can have barbed wire or it can have steel bars. Cribs are for infants. Hoods are for robbers. Without love, it’s hate thy neighbor as thyself.
Lord have mercy on us. We are the problem children only you can raise, the Father we need. If you’re willing, 🙏 work a miracle in us for your glory, there’s a lot of other crooked sons out there in need of your touch. ☮️

The hound mangles the wolf and it runs off. Sheep now rebuke the hound because it resembles a wolf and used violence. It always makes the hound shake it head in confusion. A wolf uses violence for gain. A hound uses violence as a compliance tool. 'Submit to my will, or feel pain.'

That doesn't mean violent with her or her children, but a man "capable" of being dangerous, and she want to help him to control that as much as possible. That's why you see a lot of beautiful women with "dickh*ad/bad boy" rather than a "nice guy". The first one is way more similar to a "dangerous man" than the 2nd. It also show how dumb our brain is for sure, since it's clearly not the same thing at all.
