    How do you know when it is okay to repot an orchid in bloom? I’m new to this field. Trying to learn all I can. I am loving your videos! You’re so helpful! You have such a sweet and gentle presence. Thank you.

      deviant distortions Hi and thanks so much for your comment...it made my day! I usually don't repot orchids when they're in bud, but I just bought this one and it was packed in this old moss. I normally would wait until they're bloomed out entirely for a month or 2. Also, the best times of the year to repot is spring and fall, or when you see new root tips start to grow. Happy growing!

    ......I never tire of watching you work with orchids......I love those tiny phals in those little pots...those are the same ones I drop into mounts, they are vigorous growers...the charcoal is a great idea with moss......they have no idea how lucky they are to have been chosen by you............

      Hi Rick! Thanks so much for your comment...it made my day! :) These little minis grow so quickly and they're a lot of fun to grow! I was watching one of your videos about rock and that's what made me think of charcoal. (You know how you can be watching something and it gives you a new idea.) So charcoal is my "lightweight" version of rocks. :) It works perfectly, and it looks really elegant, too. Always nice hearing from you…this TN orchid clan sends you their best wishes! :)

    Magnesium deficiency usually manifests in yellowing of the leaves at the edges. The purple pigment on the green leaves is from Anthocyanin, found in many types of plants and produced as a way to protect itself against extreme temperatures. But we can often see affects of it giving blooms a purple pigmentation or making some kinds of fruits (oranges, tomatoes) have a blue-purple or even red coloration. (see Blood oranges)

    Thank you for the most helpful video Amy. My two mini Phals had been in water culture but began to suffer so I searched your videos and found this little gem. Today I repotted both of them in moss (thanks for the information about your orchid supplies 😁). They look happy and I’ll be using your spring fertilizer recipe on all my orchids. Hi to Buddy too 🐕💓🌿

    Thank you for this video! I watched several of your videos yesterday and fell in love. I've had 4 orchids for about 6 years but I'm ready to branch out. Today I stopped by Kroger and checked the floral department and found a dying espresso orchid. The manager marked it down to $3 .....eeek! Anyway, while I was at kroger i kept thinking how when I got home I would get on UA-cam and hopefully find a video of you repotting a mini and you did!! Thank you so much! I'm going to get moss and repot it the way you showed me.

Happy growing and thank you again for sharing this with me!

    This was so timely since I just bought my first Espresso mini the other day (before that, I only had a few regular sized phals). Although I prefer bark, I'm going to repot mine in moss because it's currently in moss (looks tightly packed just like yours was) and I think those tiny roots will do better that way. Thanks for such a thorough repotting video!

    Hallo sweet Amy what a lovely video 😍 I loved it. You made it look so easy. I love your new lil 'cutie-pie.' It's too precious and I don't blame you for not resisting it. The supplier/grower really did pack that moss in. Poor little thing would have to be claustrophobic to be sure but now has been given a new lease on life. Well done on you and I am going to watch your sequel now. Love across the miles 💝🐶

    Hello Amy! Another great vid. Yesterday I picked up a little phal from the hardware store and she is peloric. But her little blooms look like cattleya bloom because of her mutation, which I absolutely LOVE of course. I just cant help but take those gems home with me (-: My question is this; will that little espresso phal be okay without drainage holes in her container? I always punch holes in cups and search high and low for pots with drainage holes, but do I really need to? Your orchids are so darling and healthy I would take every tip from you!

    I HIGHLY recommend that you get Besgrow New Zealand Spagmoss. You won't use any other once you try it! A small pack when hydrated turns into a LOT! And you won't need gloves!

      Hi! Thanks so much for your comment! I also use Besgrow NZ Spagmoss...it's awesome! My Cattleya has been growing in it for 12 years and it's beautiful moss. This moss by Better Gro is from Chile, and I've been impressed by it, as well. They have 2 kinds, the orchid grade premium and the regular, and the orchid grade moss is wonderful. Have a great day and happy growing! :)

      Thank you so much, Andrea...I really appreciate your feedback! I'm so glad sphagnum moss works in my environment. I'm seriously thinking about adding some species phals to my collection. I really enjoy hand-picking my orchids, so I would need to go to an orchid show. Can I go to a show without buying 100 orchids is the question. lol! Thanks for your suggestions, those are the ones I'm considering. :) Have a great day and happy growing!

I wasn't sure I could repot it while in bloom or bud and the blooms be okay. But thank you so much for another great and informative video! In my situations. I have min and max humidity are 79-95% while temp 60-80F
    Under such conditions what is your suggests media would be suitable for my double spike phelo and miniature phelo. And what should be watering casual if they are in NZ spagnam moss

    Hello! Is the charcoal at the bottom of the plant necessary? And how often do you fertilize your mini orchids? I got a mini orchid back in May that I think needs to be repotted soon. I'm a total beginner when it comes to plants but I don't want my wonderful orchid to have a short life if I do something wrong! Thanks in advance.

    So it's ok to transplant a new blooming orchid? I read somewhere to wait till after finish blooming.

    • @OrchidWhisperer
      @OrchidWhisperer  4 роки тому +1

      Hi! I usually wait till all the blooms are open and harden for a month or so...but this little orchid was packed really tightly in moss. I figured if I waited for them all to bloom + a month it would do damage to the roots. You can even loosen and remove some of the moss and place it back in its container...but I just decided to do an entire repot. Happy growing!

    I can't believe that beautiful little phal was only $4! I can see why you had to buy it! 😊 How long did it actually take you to remove all that old moss? I'm glad you decided to put it in the pretty clear cup instead of the white outer pot. I think it will do very well in its new home! 🌸

    • @OrchidWhisperer
      @OrchidWhisperer  6 років тому +1

      I walked into Kroger, glimpsed at the plant "Sale" table, and there it was! I picked it up and it became glued to my hand, I couldn't put it down, my daughter's eyes lit up....and little Expresso had a home! :) It took me less than 5 minutes to remove the old moss, and it was really easy to repot. The bloom on this one is charming! You got 10 new Dens and I got a new Phal! Don't you just love Spring! :) A & B :))

    • @tobiesmom
      @tobiesmom 6 років тому

      Orchid Whisperer Your Kroger's floral department has a sale table?!? How awesome is that! But why was this little phal marked down? It is just coming into bloom? Unless it's been there for a while? But, that's not the reason because you would have snapped it up long ago, LOL! I feel like I've washed 100 leaves today! But at least all my new Dens are clean now!

    • @OrchidWhisperer
      @OrchidWhisperer  6 років тому +1

      Yes, my Kroger's floral department has a sale table, and I couldn't believe this little phal was sitting there, just waiting for me to pick it up! I'm really glad it was there! :) I'm glad all your Dens are clean and ready to go, and it does take time to clean them! Hope they bloom SOON! :)

    • @tobiesmom
      @tobiesmom 6 років тому

      I'm not sure I'm going to be able to leave all of them in WC. I couldn't remove all of the bark from the roots on some of the larger plants. One of the Dens was so root-bound I thought I was going to have to cut the pot to remove it! I think your local Kroger's should call you whenever they get in a new shipment of orchids - wouldn't that be awesome to know the moment they get a fresh shipment? :)

    • @OrchidWhisperer
      @OrchidWhisperer  6 років тому +1

      I would repot those that you can't remove all the bark from back into fresh bark, it will save you lots of time. It seems like I was removing bark for weeks, and it was not fun. I'm really glad they're so healthy! I know you're going to laugh, but I'm at Kroger so often that I rarely miss a new orchid shipment! lol! I'm wondering what they'll get this week for Mother's Day...;)

      Hi! If the orchid is growing in moss when I buy it, I repot it in moss...if it's in bark when I buy it, I repot it in bark. That's what the orchid is used to, and it's easier to repot it that way. Have a great day!:)
