    This is honestly the best video on the subject I've seen. The guy gets straight to the point and doesn't go on and on about the trimmer he's using. It seems like a lot of videos I find spend most of it just advertising some product that I can't afford. Also he goes over it in simple steps that are easy to understand.

    Beard oil is for the skin under the beard. Not the beard itself. You go up underneath the beard and apply to the skin as best as possible. Nothing wrong with some of the oil going in the beard, as it will naturally. But the bulk of it should be applied to the skin. It’s to replenish the natural oils we lose through washing, weather, sweat, etc. A beard butter is for the actual beard. Also I’d recommend a wooden comb over a pick. Solid instructional video otherwise, and great beard, brother.

      @@juliehansen1716 I think the editor got too distracted with all the bells and whistles. Less cuts with more in depths shots when he did the opposite side of what he just cut would have kept the proffesional feel as well less messy/distracting.

    Best advice ever, if people stuff up their beards by following this they havnt grown it out enough or they just can't use a trimmer properly.
    I have grown out my patchy beard (and it is patchy, uneven growth, thin sides and big patches) for 6 months, tried these tricks and succeeded though my cheeks were so thin compared to the rest I just couldn't get it to look neat and tidy, so I trimmed the bulk of it down to a number 8 and left the cheeks full and untouched, used these steps with a bit more shaping on the side and its perfect, couldn't ask for better.

    The "outline" cheek line part.. Do it once or twice then *stop* . Keeping "just a little more on this side" will destroy your beard.
    It will never be 100% the same on both sides.
    Also, beard oil isn't for the beard, it's for what's beneath it, your skin.

    • @LGPanthers1
      @LGPanthers1 4 роки тому +12

      That's the truth; remove the less dense growth up the cheeks and then make MINOR adjustments on one side, check, then even more minor adjustments on the other side and stop there. Going any further risks really cutting into the growth area, no matter what.

    I have a similar beard as you now. I do not possess the courage to take my clippers without a guard down my face. I simply lack this ability. So instead, I am watching videos of people who are more courageous than I.

    My beard is long as yours. I like to keep it long. But I want to keep my beard trimmed like you did. For this, I am willing to buy a trimmer. I found out trimmer is used for short hair and a clipper is used for long hair. I am confused about which one should I buy.

    This video is so helpful, educational... anyone have any advice in regards to facemask comfort? I wear an N95 with a thick snowboarding gaiter over it, and I gotta believe somebody out there has the same issue, mask and gaiter keep riding up, I kinda just want to sew them together. Necessity is the mother of invention...Want to keep my beard yet also stay safe... Thank you for the video GQ.
