The album Bat out of hell was in the music charts for over 10 years
It should still be there.
it was in the uk top 100 for over 30 years
I just want to point out that the motorcycle sounds were done by Todd Rudgren with his guitar a true genious in his own right
I was 20 when this album came out. I remember hearing this song for the first time in my car and the DJ said it was Todd Rundgren on the motorcycle guitar. I was a fan of Todd, so I bought the album because of that. What a surprise that was, as this is a great piece of work
Wow that's cool!
Rundgren who championed, and produced the album, IIRC. It was hard to get a label to do the album.
Hardly anyone ever points out that the guy on the piano is Jim Steinman, the writer.
Thank you so much for bringing up that point I knew it but I wouldn't have remembered to bring it up but I knew it was true when you said it I own the vinyl I bought it when it was new and it's one of those that I keep going back to
Yeah but has anyone ever showed us how he did it? Can't picture it for the life of me.
"Two Out of Three Ain't Bad" is my personal favorite, followed closely by "For Cryin' Out Loud". Jim Steinman's lyrical genius can't be denied; and Meatloaf's ability to deliver with great vocals and emotion, is the kind of collaboration that made them legends.Definitely worth the watch!
You have to do Meat Loaf "For crying out loud". It's a master class in every way. Vocally, lyrically, and musically. I think it's the finest he's ever done! May he RIP.
Totally agree. Along with Heaven can wait.
The absolute best song on that album. I hope they review that song
I concur!🎙🎶😚
Agreed. His best vocals IMO.
I see a lot of that in the comments and then I wonder why no one freakin does it! It truly is his best, and that says a lot since he has many great songs. Why no one does it is baffling.
Let’s give kudos to songwriter Jim Steinman and producer Todd Rundgren as well for this album that lives in our hearts and souls. Meatloaf was in a class by himself, very unique, a great talent. Definitely react to Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad and also Oblects in the RearView Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are.
Jim Steinman wrote songs for Bat Out Of Hell 2 but Meatloaf kept delaying doing it so Jim released many of the songs himself with Meatloaf doing Bat Out of Hell 2 much later . Check out the movie "Streets of Fire" Jim Steinman wrote many of the songs of the soundtrack .
A lot of magic music vent lost after losing Steniman...
Jim Steinman's is the genius behind the music and lyrics as he wrote the entire "Bat Out of Hell" album. But yes, Meatloaf's larger then life voice and personality certainly delivered remarkable performances as he and Steinman were a very special team!
Seeing him live was like watching an opera, only without an orchestra. He was all over the stage.
The ENTIRE ALBUM is worth listening to. Hit after hit!
Meat Loaf is the King of “ Theatrical Rock” and brings all of his songs to life for the audience in his “ Live” performances.
There's really not a bad song off the album Bat Out of Hell. Listen to "You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth" with the speaking intro by Jim Steinman.
For me, this is THE quintessential Meat Loaf tune. Showcases how dramatic he can be and the versatality and power of his incredible vocals. A talent I miss a great deal. RIP Meat.
This entire album was 🔥 from start to finish.
Carla IS singing on this Tour. She didn't do the studio vocals on the Album. The women who did said she had prior commitments Vocally somewhere else and couldn't Tour.
Two out of three ain't bad is also excellent.
Great reaction ,guys... Meatloaf was certainly one of the greatest entertainers of our time... His inspiration for his musical performances was somewhat derived from his years as a theatrical writer and performer... When he decided to devote his time to music he turned down a lucrative career in the theater and a $60,000 year job which was a lot of money in the 1970's, but the gamble paid off for him...he put 100 percent of himself in his musical career... He was pretty much the only one at that time doing 3 hour concerts because he wanted to... He was the consummate entertainer and he enjoyed it immensely... His songs will live on forever and he will be so really missed... Thanks again ,guys... Keep being awesome !!!...
Rock Opera, guys, NOT DRAMA, just a fantastic Song and Performer
I don't know if anyone's mentioned this about the female singer in the videos. You say that she's not the singer. She wasn't the singer on the album, that was Ellen Foley. But Foley declined to go on the concert tour. So, Karla DeVito, the woman in the video, replaced her for the live concerts, and when they made the video they used concert rehearsal footage. They sound pretty similar. It could be that Karla was trying to sound like Ellen . . . or they hired her because she sounded like Ellen.
Bat Out Of Hell is one of the best albums in music history. Meat Loaf was a great singer, performer and actor. And a really nice guy. RIP Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman.
The storyline is open to some interpretation but I don't think it's intended to be just a one night stand ("like a sinner, before the gates of heaven, I'll come crawling on back to you"). It's possible that their love is in some way forbidden. Maybe her family is overprotective or it's a Romeo & Juliet type situation, so he has to get away before anyone notices. But he can't stop thinking of her, and this distraction leads to his accident.
My absolute favorite artist. You can't go wrong with any song off the album 'Bat Out Of Hell'
I feel as if a part of my youth died with the passing of this wonderful entertainer and genuine human being. Marvin Lee Aday (Michael) AKA Meatloaf your musical performances will live on! Thanks for the decades of memories.
Every Meatloaf song is an event performed by one of the all time rock greats.
Ever noticed his initials are in the name *M* eat *L* o *A* f. ...*M* arvin *L* ee *A* day.
'you took the words right out of my mouth' is another good one (with a different beginning to the song, as you'd expect from Meatloaf), and also 2 out of 3 ain't bad...
He did a great duet with Cher, "Dead Ringer," that definitely needs a reaction.
He’s the master of rock opera. My favorite is Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad. Love how you appreciate his performances. Great reaction
Saw him perform this song and all songs from the Bat Out of Hell album live from the front row twice. Incredible shows! What a performer!
Helen Foley did the vocals on the album. Karla DeVito was in the videos. Both Legends.
Goose bumps!!! This was my youth, oh to go back to the 70's!!!
You have to check out ''Objects in the rearview mirror may appear closer than they are''. Either the video or the live version from 2007.
Yes, great tune👍
Meat started his career in NYC on Broadway Hit “Hair” after being invited to come inside from his valet job parking cars at the theater.
I was fortunate to see him with ELO in ‘78 in Toronto
RIP meat😢this is an album to have in all rockers collection
This is a MUST HAVE album . . .
My first concert was MeatLoaf at Wembley in ‘82. I was also payed to go see him!
Great reaction Sam and Phil! I remember when i first heard the Bat out of Hell LP. It seemed like Meatloaf himself hit the music scene like the proverbial Bat. One minute he was unknown, and the next his songs were everywhere.
Chris Farley was the Meatloaf of comedy. Everything cranked to 125%
Roy Brittan is playing keyboards, Max Weinberg playing drums both from the East Street Band….plus Todd Rungren is doing all the guitar solos on this track…..the album couldn’t miss being great with all the talent on Meatloaf’s debut album…
Steinman kept whining to Rundgren about getting his motorcycle sound into the song. Rundgren finally caved and Steinman asked hoe they were going to do it. Rundgren said fine. I'll just do it w/ my guitar. So he turned a few knobs on his amp and recorded the "Motorcycle guitar" track and into the solo in 1 take while the band watched w/ slack-jawed amazement during the studio take. (Source Meatloaf & Steinman on (I think) Classic Albums : Bat Out of Hell (1999?) segment (AXS TV broadcast)).
2 out of 3 aint bad is definately a song you should react to its a really truthfull song.
LIVE good lord MEAT was born with ALL the talent
One of greatest albums handsdown
“Bit with every other beat I got left in my heart, you know I’d rather be damned with you.” Those lyrics always grabbed me.
Haven't watched this particular video for a long time but HOLY SH ..T, what a great performer !!! I was lucky enough to have seen him twice and still have my ticket stubs and T-Shirts ...
the song writer, and Todd Rundgren and Miss Devito in the first clips I always enjoy.
The "Bat Out of Hell" album sold MILLIONS of copies.
On the Bat Outta Hell album, Meat has a serious case of honesty - I'll never love you, it's just a one night stand, and I wish I were dead rather than live with you. But he says it so nice.
Jim Steinman who wrote the song wanted to write the most extreme crash song of all time ,The song is about a boy who wants to take the girl he loves out of their dead-end town, but dies in the attempt. The crash sound you hear is actually a guitar played by Todd Rundgren. Meat Loaf was the greatest most humble performer IMO of all time, altho he would not agree he was and IS a Legend.
It's a love story much like Romeo & Juliet. He's a biker from the wrong side of town in love with a girl on the 'right side' of town. He finally has what he needs so they can both get away and start fresh somewhere else, but he's in such a hurry and thinking about her that he fails to see the curve sign, and the curve, and crashes his motorcycle into a steep gully and lays there dying. Saddest, freshest song to ever come out in the 70's. (BTW, the pianist wrote/arranged all of these songs)
The three bat albums were intended as a movie he never made, a movie and a musical, Neverland... A futuristic Peter Pan set in a chrome city in a post apocalyptic world... You also saw the genius Jim Steinman in the video playing piano
The guy on the motorcycle driving through the graveyard is the spirit of him after his death. He was on his way back from seeing the girl when he was in an accident he said the last thing that he seen was his heart baiting like a bat out. Really have to pay attention to the words in this one.
With Meatloaf being in musical theater he does do story telling in his songs. Sadly wr lost him last year after having some back surgeries and then catching covid
RIP Meatloaf you are truly missed.
_"Meatloaf being in musical theater he does do story telling in his songs."_
Except, they're not _his_ songs... he didn't compose or write any of them, he just performed them - but perform he certainly did - performed like few others did, can, or ever will. Definitely a true showman.
@BlackieNuff still his songs. Bee Gees and Prince wrote a lot of songs that other people sang and they don't say Prince song that Sinead O'connor sang.
@@Debbie-st4nn
You're making a very strong claim based on VERY LOOSE semantics.
What happens when multiple artists cover the SAME song? Is it ALL "their song"? No. It's only their _performance_ - the SONG still belongs to the one(s) who WROTE and COMPOSED the damn thing.
So, in very casual referencing, one can say this is a "Meat Loaf song", but in actuality it is a Jim Steinman song, performed by Meat Loaf.
Think of it like actors in a movie ; they might say "my latest movie", but unless they actually wrote, directed and/or produced the damn thing, then it's really NOT ; they only PERFORMED in it.
It's fine to say "Jim Carrey's latest movie" or "Meat Loaf's best song"... but don't ignore the artists who MADE those pieces of entertainment possible in the first place.
They deserve at least a mention, don't you think?
Maybe I am arguing technicalities, but I think they're worth arguing for.
Try it this way : If YOU made some great art - and someone else was getting all the credit, praise, and accolades for it simply cos their name and some secondary contributions were made to it, and your name was met with "Debbie who?", would you appreciate that? I doubt it. You may not demand all the same level of attention, but you'd at least want it known that it's YOUR creation ; the "big name" just made it popular.
written by Jim Steinman, who wrote many of Meat's songs. The prominence of the keyboards are common in Steinman's productions.
I believe Steinman had earlier written a musical which is where he pulled this song from.
Steinman also wrote another strong song in "Total Eclipse of the Heart", which was a big hit for Bonnie Tyler.
The musical was Neverland. Heaven Can Wait and All revved Up were also from there.
Hats off to that guitarist
I sooooo wish I could have seen Meat Loaf live!
I was outside the stadium when word came that that night's show was cancelled ten minutes before the doors opened.. Had to turn around and go home
Heart concerns as I remember.
Then 5 days later he collapsed on stage - dehydration.
Yes please to 2 out of 3
Meatloaf is a phenomenal performer but the genius behind the album "Bat Out Of Hell" was the piano player Jim Steinman who wrote all the songs all the music.
I'd Do Anything for Love is 16 years after Bat Out Of Hell
The total genius behind Meatloaf's BOH album is Todd Rundgren. He paid, wrote and preformed on the LP and engineered/produced the entire thing. He is the one playing those fantastic guitars of the title track. He even invented a special guitar to play the motorcycle sounds. No on wanted to back Meatloaf, so Todd covered the entire project. His goal was to create a Bruce Springsteen parody. (Thus the 1950's gear just like Springsteen). Meatloaf was known because he was in the Broadway production of Rocky Horror Picture Show. They even got members of the East Street band to play on it. Then came the massive law suit. Rundgren took everyone up to Bearsville NY and that is where his Bearsville records came from, as no label would record Meatloaf, so Todd did that himself as well.
Just to the complete album from start to finish every song is a classic
Yes please react to Meat Loaf's song "Two out of Three Ain't bad.
Bat out of Hell means ‘with extreme urgency without fear of consequences”. The song (the first song on the album) is about escaping (because “Nothing ever grows in this rotting old hole. And everything is stunted and lost”). BOOH is like 8 one-act plays. One day in the life of the protagonists (a guy & a girl). The first song (late, late nighttime) he’s escaping. The final song (early the next morning) he’s broken, realizing the things he was ever looking for were the things he left behind. The late Jim Steinman wrote all of meatloaf’s songs. What a lyrical genius. What a clever guy he was.
Love Meatloaf , especially ‘em with a hard boiled egg inside. Bat out of Hell was a one of a kind album with so much energy and vocal enthusiasm from Mr. O’Day.One of the reason that is so good is that Todd Rundgren played guitar, keyboards, percussion, and backing vocals. Todd is one of the most talented musicians and producers of rock, glam rock and alternative rock music! The most fun song to react to is Paradise By The Dashboard Light. It is so entertaining!
Yep that was our first one!

Hey, Phil, the Meatloaf that you were trying to recollect was "I Would Do Anything For Love (But,I Won't Do That)
Meat Loaf's live videos are so TRUE - no cutting, no new takings - no faking.
I'm glad you are honest about what you've heard or not, makes it interesting, because we're here for the honest reactions.
Bat out of hell is the first song, I'd do anything for love is the reply and yrs apart..
Even the album cover was a work of art
Fantastic song, great band, amazing singer!!
Absolute BANGER!!!! This and Two Outta Three,,,,are his best songs,,,,💥💥💥👍😎
Dude,,(most),,,Chicks dig a Bad Boy,,,👹
Musical Master Piece!!
That ending gives me goosebumps
Meat Loaf's cameo appearance in the Rocky Horror Picture Show was amazing, too.
The Master of Master class. I have all three Bat Out Of Hell albums and i hammer them lol 1 Bat Out Of Hell. 2 Bat Out Of hell, Back into Hell. 3 Bat Out Of Hell, The Monsters Loose. One hell of a good line up to give ya ears a pleasurable blast.
For Crying Out Loud is great. Album version. There is no video but it doesn't matter.
Before he was Meatloaf..... he was Eddie in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Check out his performance of Hot Patootie Bless my Soul from that film. BTW do not watch the movie unless you're in a midnight screening on Halloween night with 200 people that know what's going on. If you know.... you know.🍻🇨🇦
Two Out of Three . . . is a GREAT NEXT STEP! A quick jump off the "Bat Out of Hell" album train would be his official video of "Rock and Roll Dreams Come True", this has Angelina Jolee's first video performance, also another good Meatloaf song.
Rock and Roll Dreams Come *Through* Angelina *Jolie*
One way to look at this song is that it is Jim Steinman's and Meatloaf's theatrical take of Bruce Springsteen's Born to Run. I haven't heard a good live version of Two out of Three Ain't Bad other then the one time I saw him live on the Bat Out Of Hell Tour.
2 out of 3 has to be next!🎉
Todd Rundgren doing the awesome guitar work.
you guys should really watch Heaven Can Wait from Meatloaf it's one of his more softer songs like Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad but just so beautiful
Meat Loaf was great but of course a big part of his success were the songs from Jim Steinman. Just check for example "Tonight is what it means to be young" from the move Streets of Fire.
Then there is of course Bonnie Tylers "Total Eclipse of the Heart"
"It's All Coming Back To Me Now" from Pandoras Box (was even covered by Celine Dion)
bat was a huge album whn i was in hs, so many hits of it, n lots airplay. jim v piano player is v writer of all v lyrics n msic of meatloafs songs. an earlier song is a duest wit cher.
Seriously, if you claim to be a meatloaf fan, but say you're not familiar with bat out of hell, you have a problem 😮
Love Meat Loaf Have All His Albums, True Musical Genius He's Got So Many Great Tracks! Two Out Of Three Aint Bad, Heaven Can Wait, I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Wont Do That), Rock and Roll Dreams Come True, Objects In The Rear View Mirror, Life Is a Lemon, Everything Louder Than Everything Else, The Monsters Loose, Running For The Red Light, Original Sin, Bad Attitude, Peel Out, Modern Girl, Rock and Roll Mercenaries Really The List Goes On...... RIP Meat Loaf.
there will never be another bat out of hell album, good thing this one was perfect.
There will never be a singer like Meatloaf. He had his own sound. Original.!!
I'd recommend Heaven Can Wait, and Objects in the Rear View Mirror.
Rip Marvin Lee Aday 🕊
You just experienced greatness!❤
Can,t beat abit of meatloaf ❤❤❤❤❤ need Rod Stewert Forever Young
Two Out of Three
This is the edited version. You SHOULD have went for the full length version.
You need to check out the "VH-1 Storytellers"-series ... Meat Loaf or Billy Idol or Ray Davis, etc. ... it's like an unplugged session, but they are telling you the story about when they did it, why they did and the story how, etc. ... all this background "storytellers"-intros to each song and followed by the song unplugged ... amazing stories and footage! :) I loved the Ray Davis (from "The Kinks") a lot! :)
Love meatloaf ❤️
You might want to listen to "Dead Ringer for Love"; he does it with Cher.
I can’t tell you what the song is actually about. Meatloaf just makes me happy 😊❤
Meatloaf was the muse to Jim Steinmans genius
RIP Jim
RIP Jim and Meat, Hopefully creating master pieces for ever
You can certainly take the song on face value of a regular guy that falls in love with a great girl but dies in a motorcycle ---- but the history of the whole album was a story about Vampires - so the more precise meaning from the authors POV might be closer to the singer is a vampire living in hell (young boy foaming in the gutter), he finds a pure woman, he wants to be with her but he can't because he can only have her once and at night. Also once he has her she will become a vampire and thus a part of his hell - so in the end he kills himself (the bike crash) because he stayed with her too long and couldn't get back to hell before the sunlight killed him (dying in the blazing sun) BUT it was worth it because in the end his heart survives (his love of the girl set him free) as his body turns to dust his heart flies away - he is no longer stuck in hell as a vampire
My friend died in a motorcycle accident .... they played this at his funeral. I was outside the church 200 people deep
