Hey everyone! Just wanted to remind you all that this video is simply showing a comparison between the design of the old and new ES. We will be uploading a separate full Redline Review on the brand new 2019 ES350 F-Sport that includes driving footage, more interior shots, estimated pricing and everything you’ll want to know about it on 6/7 at 7AM EST. Be sure to come back then for the full review!
I'm hoping that, when they do cut the GS, they'll introduce a beefier AWD model pretty much straight away. I'm suspecting they haven't done it yet because Lexus doesn't want the ES to cannibalise the GS sales and plus although the GS is pretty long in the tooth, it's not quite ready yet for the cull...
@Redline Review I just want to point how your comment about the "hump" within the rear seat of the car. The Camry/Avalon has this same hump because the ES is based off of them. This "hump" is there only as a "sporty" image. The only way for the ES to get this AWD option is if Camry/Avalon gets it too and Toyota won't do that. Secondly - AWD will make Camry/Avalon/ES more expensive across the board. Toyota wants to keep these cars fairly 5cheap.
As a Lexus salesman, I always appreciate your level of detail and professionalism in your videos. They help me become more knowledgeable for my career. Also, your UA-cam has inspired me to give it a whirl as well!
From what I heard, GS is dead. No new model going forward. They made the ES sportier to bridge the gap between the old ES and the GS. Expect AWD to make an appearance on the ES soon.
Man, Toyota and Lexus have been killing it lately! Especially with their designs. The all-new LC, LS, Camry, Avalon, Corolla Hatch, RAV4, and now the ES. It kinda looks like a baby LS now! ^^ Can't wait to see more from both of the two brands in the near future.... (still waiting for the damn Supra, TMC!)
To be quite honest, Honda has designed some other good-looking cars lately... (ex: the new Insight, Odyssey, Pilot, Ridgeline, Civic, etc). Hell I think Acura may be coming back on a roll when they made the new RDX! (also the new NSX too) ...though, I personally do think the new Accord looks pretty cool in the Sport trim at least.... :/
I love my 18 ES350, I drive a lot and it has so much room for my customers. It feels like a dream and so quiet, maybe one day I will upgrade to a newer version. I love the v6 engine.
Congrats I think you’re the worlds first to see and review this far in the flesh. Looks much better on video than all those cheesy promo videos which make it look weird and awkward. I have a current gen IS now and would definitely consider getting a black ES F sport.
I believe the goal of the new Lexus es 350 F Sport is to provide a more sportyer option, opposed to luxurious, with the intent being to attract younger buyers as he stated. Unfortunately he was comparing the new sporty model to the old luxury model. From my perspective this wasn't an apples-to-apples comparison, because the 350 F Sport is the first of its kind for this series, so there is really nothing to compare it to. There is a new luxury model es 350 as well. I think it would've been a much better comparison, had he compared the new luxury model , to the old luxury model, instead of the f sport. I currently have the older 2016 luxury model, and I'm in the process of upgrading to the new F sport . My dealer told me that features like the panoramic sunroof and the 360 camera that are available on the new luxury models, aren't available on the new F Sport model for the reasons mentioned earlier. They're going for more sporty not luxurious.
Mohammed Al surprisingly, we had the hazards on for quite some time while we filmed and they never ended up in sync! I was waiting for the same thing. 😆
Newer isn't always better. My wife has a 2010 es350 and I have a 2017 and we drive the 2010 more because the seats are softer and the ride is more filtered. The older Lexus models also had higher quality materials.I love everything about Lexus and will continue buying as long as I can afford to.
I know that big Lexus grill has a lot of haters but, I just love it. I think it looks interesting and at least it doesn't look like every other car on the road.
Gosh, lexus went all out on the ES stunning! Is an LS just smaller, before i would never consider this, always thought it was for old people. Now it looks amazing!!😍
This design works pretty well on this sedan. Definitely an improvement over the last one. I think this stying is working for me. The lexus SUVs and crossovers still looked too overstyled. The proportions just don't match. This is just my opinion though.
Damn. I bought 2018 Es300h 2 month ago right before they announced new 2019. Really like new f sports exterior but I still prefer older interior. Loving my light brown with bamboo interior trim.
Too bda they are discontinuing the GS models but I agree, I thought the GS350 is so sharp, especially the F sport model. They already stopped making them in Europe and looks like the ES is going to replace the GS model. It sucks because with the GS 350 you can get AWD if you want but you can't with the DS.
@@HeLLLoKitTTyy69 No way, and front wheel drive sucks! No comparison to the rear wheel drive sports sedan from Lexus. Glad I bought a GS F V8 performance. It is a 10 year driver for me, then bye bye Lexus. Will shift to Audi then, probably the A7 or S7 sedan.
More importantly, is Lexus going to keep or get rid of the GS??? That’s what everyone wants to know… If they are getting rid of it they needed to give this an AWD option and put the twin turbo V6 in the F-Sport. Consumers now have more choices like the Stinger and Genesis G70 and G80 Sport to choose from that have much more power. The F-Sport badge on a FWD sedan isn’t enough. I wish Lexus and the other Japanese brands would have a real performance vehicle.
BG They have the RC F still that just received a couple of interior updates, and they added the F Sport to this new ES model so I'm sure the GS is adios at this point but as far as sales go I'm not sure it will be missed by anyone other than the 6K people who got one last year.
LR Young The GS will be missed by some. It wasn't successful in the first place because they would do what even the Genesis G70 will do. Bring a TTV6 to the sedans. The Stinger has been selling well over 1k rach month and sold 1,700 last month. Even the G80 was selling 3 times the GS. An F-Sport FWD ES is still an ES.. with no additional power.
Damn, looks WAY better than the old version. Definitely not the old man Lexus car anymore. I would definitely get it if I had the budget but looks like Camry XSE for me will do.
I thought of that too, but eventually a new design does lean more towards younger buyers and is more modern. In other words, I don’t mind a new one anymore
I loved the older interior. It was much more luxurious compared to the newer one. But the exterior def is better on the newer 2019 one..Sigh. why did they change the interior so dramatically
11:42 THANK YOU for mentioning foot space. This is a very important contributor to rear seat comfort and many reviewers just overlook talking about this.
It looks awesome. I wouldn't have bought one for myself prior to the 2019 model. Now I want it. Also, in my market the car has an option for heated/cooled rear seats, as well as backseat AC and entertainment controls, and an option for reclining back seats.
They look similar but the new one definitely pulls it off better with its slimmer lights and character lines. The interior of the new car looks better too. This car could use an AWD option but otherwise a solid job. Can’t wait to see what Lexus does with the IS as that’s the car I’m waiting for
I plan to spoil myself for the 2020 model year. I currently own a 2014 Accord Sport. Please do a 2019 Lexus ES350 F-Sport versus 2019 Volvo S60 T6 R-Design AWD when you get your hands on one because although the Lexus ES is not offered in an AWD yet, the horsepower is similar to the T6. These sedans are my two top choices so far. Your videos are excellent; keep up the great work!
Really nice breakdown. I totally agree with the lack of heated rear seats; being a FWD car, it's main advantage over RWD is the interior space. So being a passenger car (as opposed to say, the GS being a more dynamic sporty one) not spoiling the passengers at the back is just a big oversight...or obvious cost cutting measure. My biggest disappointment with this car though (although your speculations have given me hope) is the lack of AWD. This car does nothing for those wanting to upgrade from an IS as it will be an inferior drive purely based on which wheels are driven. Nor do GS drivers want FWD; even if the interior is just superb. I'd go so far to saying that it looks better than the LS (especially the design of the centre console screen). BUT here in Australia, all we get are 2 grades of the 2.5L hybrid. The same engine found in the camry. That's it. No f-sport. No V6. So in Australia at least, this car is pretty much aimed at fleets and not at private sales. Which is a huge disappointment. Anyway, rant aside, very well summarised. Quality videos like this of someone who can actually appreciate cars and their designs (whether or not they like) without sounding like a biased brat is just a total breath of fresh air.
Most ES’s in the UAE are used as Uber’s or private taxis since they last forever, have a huge backseat & trunk space, are very quiet, comfy, stable and are super well built and engineered
This was an awesome video! You should do more comparison videos in the future! Lexus, in my opinion, has always been a car that was more concerned about a luxury and craftsmanship, rather trying to be swiss army knife of a car. If Lexus wants to create a name for itself in the sporty sedan segment (not saying that it isn't), it needs to do more than just offer an appearance package to make it look sporty. If this car had a 500+ horsepower twin-turbo V6, with some suspension upgrades and new drive modes, I would entertain buying this car over say an M5 or an E63. I feel like the horsepower of those cars is way to much to be handled on the street and im fine with a 450-500 horse car. I don't need 600 horsepower. Also, lastly, what I think would be really cool was if you could have the nav screen integrated into the circular gauge display and have the speedometer off to the side of the screen!
Yes it is, love the 2019 Lexus ES350 and traditional gear shifter (nothing weird like other new cars) but it's missing a sunglass holder. I bought a Corvette in 2017 because Toyota and Lexus were all boring. For my next car, a luxury car for comfort, I am debating between Mercedes E and S class versus Lexus ES (LS is not worth it, may as well go to the Merc S-class).
The issue with these huge grills on newer cars is that rocks can get through and damage the AC condenser. It was a huge problem on Honda/Acura products and just so you know, warranty does not cover road hazard which is exactly what they categorize it as when a rock punctures it.
I wish the F Sport look was available on the hybrid UL version. Especially the grill. The no hybrid option and lack of real leather were deal breakers.
wow. Awesome review . THANK YOU . this may sound strange. i didn't like the Dashboard in all the various videos i've seen since it's release. BUT for some reason your Camera makes the Dashboard look so SO Good !!. elegant. and sporty. all in all. it's a GREAT Looking Car. looks sportier and more aggressive than the outgoing model. i'm in love and more in love with that sexy Red interior. if i'm buying this car. it'll definitely be this color. what's also NICE is the Aluminum trim that's added to the dashboard all the way to the back doors. can't wait to see your Test drive review. thanks again. Cheers
I purchased the F-Sport ES 350. In addition to heated rear seats, I believe the rear seats should fold flat for better cargo carry ability. Most every full size 4 door cars have folding rear seats.
New ES looks fantastic, I'm loving the Lexus look these days..IS, LC, LS, RC ES, RX and even GS all look great, they have that character missing in its competitors, they are not trying to be the same as everyone else...and you know quality and reliability is top notch.
the rear design of all new ES, GS, q50, and mazda 6 is a benchmark from 2009 hyundai sonata, which was pretty novel at that time compared to other sedans.
I'm very curious to see the IS redesign in a couple years. I have the 2018 but when my lease is up in 2021 I'll be very interested to see what the new look will be.
Love this review. Reminds me of the changes of the first and second generation changes of the LS in that you had to see them side by side to really appreciate the changes. I personally like the ES. It’s like the unsung hero of cars. I definitely like the newer one and I love Lexus design direction even though I am in the minority. This video and this vehicle is a win for me.
I honestly would be happy with either one of these Lexus ES models. The previous generation ES was definitely meant for comfort and smoothness, like what Lexus has always been known for, and this current one still does that but in a more youthful manner. For me, the old one is more classy and I like the interior of it just as much as the current one. Whenever I think of a Lexus sedan that is meant for comfort and luxury, the ES comes to my mind all the time.
The IS has definitely grown on me! At first I preferred the 2nd gen but as time has gone on I have a positive emotional response when I see the latest one now. The latest ES looks good for sure, but a subtle evolution from the last in my opinion. The best looking Lexus sedan has to be the new LS. That thing looks like a proper luxury cruiser.
Redline Reviews, Navy vet here with a question and a suggestion. I read that Lexus is planning on discontinuing the GS models. If that is the case will Lexus offer an AWD option for the ES? If so will Toyota add an AWD option for the Camry? Is Lexus planning on adding the option for the F sport on the hybrid models?
Good review, the ES does looks a little sportier. The sportier styling will definitely attract younger buyers especially since the ES is a very reliable car.
They could've used the old school blackberry roller ball on the steering wheel to control the infotainment. I think it wouldve made it less distracting to use
Why there’s a hump on the floor? because it’s a TNGA, it’s design to be compatible throughout the lineup without big modifications like old K platform did. Both Camry and Avalon have the same hump even though they don’t offer AWD. It basically means next gen Highlander and RX will use this platform. Although I think there will be AWD version in the future, possibly ES450h AWD because it’s needs more than 1 powertrain and AWD set up especially if you think about European market.
which ones was the new one, which one was the old one? Honestly without the tags you put in the video I wouldn't be able to distinguish them on the road
I find the lack of heated rear seats surprising too! I wonder if that's a feature they'll offer for the Canadian market because it would be pretty sad if you get them standard in the $30k Honda Civic Touring/Si and Hyundai Elantra Limited but not in your $50k luxury sedan. Given our climate I could see people passing on this for a competitor that has heated rear seats.
It's funny how other car makers and drivers complained about the front grill of the Lexus and now all the other car makers are doing a similar type for front grills.
I love it the new ES 2019. I think Lexus IS definitely heading in the right direction with this model. It actually in my opinion, looks better than the GS model. That’s for your time in showing the comparison from the 2018 model. Big difference. 👍🏽😎
I give you kudos for trying your best to make the new one seem much different from the old one. But the truth is the new one looks like the old one with some aftermarket parts. As a matter of fact, the Avalon makes sense. Interior has changed but the exterior is the same.
On your drive review next week please test out its new lane tracing assist(LTS) and see how it is vs propilot, autopilot, supercruise, etc... Dont be just saying that it has it... test and review it. Thanks!

Anne Ramsey I missed the part where someone asked.
After Lexus cut GS model.. do them going build awd on es or just fwd?
I'm hoping that, when they do cut the GS, they'll introduce a beefier AWD model pretty much straight away. I'm suspecting they haven't done it yet because Lexus doesn't want the ES to cannibalise the GS sales and plus although the GS is pretty long in the tooth, it's not quite ready yet for the cull...
As a GS owner I hope they put a 320HP Fsport option for the ES.
Also the spindle grill is only on F Sports. The standard grill I call the bowtie, hourglass, or darth vader,
Any idea if awd comes out? Dont get fsport conception with fwd at all...
But please don’t be one of those folks saying that this is a GS replacement because as a GS owner myself I will not buy a fwd car.
From what I heard, GS is dead. No new model going forward. They made the ES sportier to bridge the gap between the old ES and the GS. Expect AWD to make an appearance on the ES soon.
I watched some of your reviews. They are great. I bet if you kept going you'd get a big following.
The new one looks good! The old one is eh now. I don't care what anyone says. I like Lexus design language.
Double JJ i think both are nice looking, the new one is much nicer though.
Double JJ I think the new one looks better on the outside but the old one’s interior is nicer.
Double JJ me too.
I will say the interior color from the old one is better. I have a soft spot when it comes to brown and tan interiors.
Double JJ
Me too!!
Man, Toyota and Lexus have been killing it lately! Especially with their designs.
The all-new LC, LS, Camry, Avalon, Corolla Hatch, RAV4, and now the ES. It kinda looks like a baby LS now! ^^
Can't wait to see more from both of the two brands in the near future.... (still waiting for the damn Supra, TMC!)
FarhantheMovieGuy. AKA: SpongeBob99Swell very nice indeed😎
james 699 😂😂😂 with that ugly ass Accord??? Aka the ugly duckling???🤣🤣🤣 I don't think so..

Thanks for the compliment, raging homophobe. :)
james 699 Honda has done a good job with their front looks but on the rear is a different story. The only exception is the Ridgeline.
The best ES to date. Will be the sales king as always. The exteriors and interiors are just perfect.
98k it’s always been the best selling lexus
98k I mean in its respective segment.
the interior looks good but the quality isnt the best
I actually like the old interior more
李丽 I agree with you. It’s much prettier and classier.
The Frankenstein bolts on the IP in the new one looks completely dated.
maybe because I'm getting aged
Because of the colour options believe me.
if he had the non fsport then the interior would have a more luxurious interior compared to the older one
older interior looks more luxurious
I believe the goal of the new Lexus es 350 F Sport is to provide a more sportyer option, opposed to luxurious, with the intent being to attract younger buyers as he stated. you must own one lol
It's one of the best looking FWD mid-sized sedans.
Thank god Toyota and Honda are still making sedans.
I was waiting for the hazard lights to get in sync 😂
Mohammed Al I saw that too!
I notice that whenever someone is signaling on the road. Thought I was the only one.

German cars are my fav but Lexus has such great cars too! The mesh grille looks amazing!

They revealed the 2019 GsF last week. By the way its looking the gs may be killed.
My dealer rarely stocks GS cars. About 10 lol.
Damn, looks WAY better than the old version. Definitely not the old man Lexus car anymore. I would definitely get it if I had the budget but looks like Camry XSE for me will do.
Kevin Nguyễn have you purchased it yet?
Am I the only one that actually prefers the previous es look?
sevan grigoryan yes
Yes you’re the only one
I thought of that too, but eventually a new design does lean more towards younger buyers and is more modern. In other words, I don’t mind a new one anymore
That makes two of us.
I loved the older interior. It was much more luxurious compared to the newer one. But the exterior def is better on the newer 2019 one..Sigh. why did they change the interior so dramatically
It’s 2024 and I still feel this way. I wish I could have the interior of the 2018 and the exterior of the 2019 😂 can’t have it all I guess
11:42 THANK YOU for mentioning foot space. This is a very important contributor to rear seat comfort and many reviewers just overlook talking about this.
I like the old one's dashboard more..no?
Hero Zer0 I actually like the dash of the old one more
It looks awesome. I wouldn't have bought one for myself prior to the 2019 model. Now I want it.

I’d take the new one but with the old interior. Flawless review as always!
This new Lexus Es looks so good
Waris Hafeez same, its like sedan ,RCF
Being A long time IS300 owner( first Gen) I never thought I would say I now want an ES350 ( f sport )
get it, it's really awesome....I have a metallic black one with black interior....
wow the old one is so much nicer inside.
Randy Murray cuz the one shown is in two tone. The new ES also offers interior in two and looks awesome.
Randy Murray You’re absolutely right. The old interior is much more pleasing to look at.
Yeah brown/tan is so much nicer looking than black.
Could not agree more. If the old one has black interior it will look like from 2005.
The only thing nicer on the older car is the steering wheel design in my opinion.
Sophian , i listened to your reviews and i got the mazda 6, lets just say am impressed and happy with the purchase! Thanks
Oh my God that red leather is just so so good. I've never really wanted leather seats, but that red though. This car would be perfect if it had AWD.

Maticalise Music Master same, this ES is beautiful
I still hate it. It is FWD ;(((
agreed 100 per cent.....I had a gs 350 2015, and while the exterior is beautiful, the gs interior looks dated......this one kicks ass......
Thanks for comparing the F SPORT model I was waiting for others to do this and u did it really good.
I think the steering wheel design on the older ES looks better than the current model designs.
The same people that keep saying it’s a overpriced Camry go look an Audi and a Volkswagen
Also a naturally aspirated compared to a 2.0 turbo I favor the L
agreed, and it's always the folks that don't own one saying the same shit.....
Can you get the F sport without the red seats?
how quite and comfort is the new es from your point of view?
Love the video. Great comparison.
This was an awesome video! You should do more comparison videos in the future! Lexus, in my opinion, has always been a car that was more concerned about a luxury and craftsmanship, rather trying to be swiss army knife of a car. New ES looks awesome. But the current IS350 (yes the compact one) looks sick, too, even though it is older.
You can’t really compare the two since the previous es never had an f sport version. Would’ve been more fair if you compared both non f sport models
Exactly, this review is really promoting the newer version ,guess whos getting a kick back 🤑🤑🤑
The old one is a 2018 model, we are in 2018...it would still feel pretty good in 2022.
I currently drive a 2017 with only 35,000 on it...good as new bought it CPO in December 2020.
Cool. So when are the redoing the IS and giving us a turbo V6 or V8 ISF?
Cheers
The exterior looks better in the new car, but the knobs above the gauge cluster look really weird to me... Kinda Frankenstein's monster-ish.
I like the old one just a little better... The new one looks good, but the old one just looked a lot classier imo.
I feel like the old steering wheel looks better, I don’t know just that the middle of the steering wheel where the logo is it just looks better ig
the rear design of all new ES, GS, q50, and mazda 6 is a benchmark from 2009 hyundai sonata, which was pretty novel at that time compared to other sedans.
Did you test the enhance voice commands on your tester? Did you miss having LED fog lights? Dynamic Navigation active on your tester?
I'm very curious to see the IS redesign in a couple years. I have the 2018 but when my lease is up in 2021 I'll be very interested to see what the new look will be.
i’m from the future. exterior looks fantastic. the interior…the exterior looks very nice in red
I love toyota and lexus. will you try and get your hands on the etron quattro?
Why does every 2019 car have angry faces?
Amber rear turn signals look so good
Any plans on the 2018 mazda 6? Great comparison video btw very detailed!
Khoa Phan Yes, we have a Mazda6 Signature scheduled from 6/22-6/29
The IS has definitely grown on me! At first I preferred the 2nd gen but as time has gone on I have a positive emotional response when I see the latest one now. The latest ES looks good for sure, but a subtle evolution from the last in my opinion. The best looking Lexus sedan has to be the new LS. That thing looks like a proper luxury cruiser.
there is a huge gap between the ES and LS....something needs to go in between the ES and LS.
Redline Reviews, Navy vet here with a question and a suggestion. I read that Lexus is planning on discontinuing the GS models. If that is the case will Lexus offer an AWD option for the ES? If so will Toyota add an AWD option for the Camry? Is Lexus planning on adding the option for the F sport on the hybrid models?
great reviews! would love to see a video about the rs3 sedan.
I think it's the best in the design of Lexus in recent years. It is natural, yet unique. It seems that it has not changed so much, but changed a lot.
That red interior is gorgeous
Can't wait til the spindle grille disappears lol. That's literally the only thing I don't like about Lexuses.
NO AMBIENT LIGHTS? IN NEW ES?
The steering wheel in the old model looks better in my opinion as does the stitched dash
which ones was the new one, which one was the old one? Honestly without the tags you put in the video I wouldn't be able to distinguish them on the road
Thanks Sof, love your reviews.
It's got the look for sure. I'd consider it now, which for me is not a statement the old generation would bring about.
Great review as always.
It's funny how other car makers and drivers complained about the front grill of the Lexus and now all the other car makers are doing a similar type for front grills.
This is the ultimate lexus sedan , its looks amazingly , i think it look away better than 2019 ls luxury.
I have a 2015 GS350 I bought the gs because the styling was way better then the es but the new es is sick I would totally buy the es now
I love it the new ES 2019.
I just love Lexus. Always have.
I fucking looooooove this new generation Lexus ES!!
very good comparission, great idea for video, thank you for your job
On your drive review next week please test out its new lane tracing assist(LTS) and see how it is vs propilot, autopilot, supercruise, etc... Dont be just saying that it has it... test and review it.
Thanks!
Huge difference compare to previous model but as u said why that hub in rear seat its front wheel also missing cold and heated rear seat !?
Yes Lexus IS going on the right direction with the new es 2019. They did a great job and they will always be secsesfull in there cars
Sofyan Looks good?
How much is it ?
Lexus is fantastic, I love the New ES.
Those red seats in the new one are a bit gaudy. Kinda wish it was two tone. Maybe black and red
