    I think Lexus is doing a FANTASTIC job with their interiors. They’re so unique compared to the compared to the competitors. Lexus is still actually integrating the nav screen into the design of the dash instead of carelessly sticking it there (Cough cough, BMW/Audi/Mercedes).
    The gauge cluster and placements of the drive dynamics select are also really cool.

    • @henrynguyen9631
      @henrynguyen9631 6 років тому +4

      Scott Watkins Careless wouldn’t be the term I’d use. I think the Europeans prefer that tablet-like positioning over the seamless design. Audi does a better job w hiding it into the dash though so it’s not as bad I guess. I have to agree I do like the way a screen looks when it’s nicely integrated in dash!

      I gotta say the newer Lexus interiors are cheap and lack understated elegance. Most ES interior color combos I've seen are either dark and cold ( grey/black combos) or make you feel like your inside a Reese cup ( brown/saddle brown). The lack of wood trim completes the horribleness. I have a 2008 ES with almost 300K. When it's time to get another car, I'm looking at used Lexus' because those interiors haven't been cheapened out.

    The reason is has a CD player is so you can take advantage of lossless audio for the awesome ML system. Audiophiles love that, and it was smart of Lexus.

    • @WillMoon
      @WillMoon 6 років тому +30

      MP3's generally have some compression and digital noise when you listen to them on an iPod, it creates little artifacts and distortion that you can hear especially at high volume. On CD's there is no compression or loss when they're pressed, so you don't have those little distortions at high volumes. This is why all true luxury cars should still have a CD player, especially if they have a nice sound system.

Lexus no doing ITV job as a luxury brand, both features are available in Toyota brand cars. Also, I think Lexus should just get rid of touch pad, just make a large touch screen like other luxury brands.

    That's one super sexy car, they better not kill the IS what they should be working on is an IS-F why they haven't made a M3 competitor is beyond me, they need to bring that back.

    • @97I30T
      @97I30T 6 років тому +7

      themessiah809 There is no money to be made in selling a low volume performance car like that. Lexus doesn’t sell enough IS’s to justify a performance version.

    • @97I30T

    • @user-pu9pz6ff9l
      @user-pu9pz6ff9l 6 років тому +24

      themessiah809 Lexus will lose tons of business and be called stupid if they cancel the IS. The Lexus IS is the true competitor to the 3 Series and C-Class with its RWD and handling. Secondly - canceling the IS will cause a huge price issue. There won't be an affordable RWD Sedan in the Lexus line up anymore. Meaning someone is going to have the buy the GS/LS for a Lexus RWD. These consumers will go else-where. Lastly - canceling the IS also makes the IS makes the ES the "Entry-Level Luxury Sedan" for Lexus. How the fuck is a 50 grand car that is based off a Camry/Avalon Entry-Level? Lol.
      They aren't canceling the IS - its suicide.

    • @edwink1467
      @edwink1467 6 років тому +8

      It makes no sense for Lexus to cancel the IS. It may not be their best seller, but they sell a good amount every year. More importantly, the IS serves as an entry level Lexus sedan, just like the BMW 3 series, Mercedes C-Class, and Audi A4. The GS though... it’s in a weird spot with the ES as they are similar in terms of size. I can see Lexus cancelling one of them (probably the GS) and replace it with ES as their mid size sedan line up. But then the ES will probably get more luxurious/sporty and expensive... to rival the mid size luxury sedan competitions.

    • @MetalMeansClassic
      @MetalMeansClassic 6 років тому +1

    It's funny that reviewers always say that buyers want AWD, yet this is the top seller for Lexus. It seems obvious that they we don't care. I bought one and love it. There are other Lexus models that have AWD that I could have chosen, but didn't. Reviewers should review the features a car has, not features it doesn't have.

      This design looks better on the smaller car vs the LS.

    • @desbiens1127
      @desbiens1127 6 років тому +43

      You shouldn't compare the ES to the GS or the LS. The GS was designed as a midsized RWD platform. Basically, the IS is the 3 series, GS is the 5 series and LS is the 7 series in terms of model lineup/respective competition. If you are in the market for an ES you are usually looking at TLX's and other front wheel drive models as competitors (very few or almost none in the euro luxury market). To directly compare a FWD platform directly to an RWD sports sedan is a stretch so I don't think the ES is pushing the GS into extinction - maybe the same tired 3.5L 2GR-FSE/FKS they have been using since mid to early 2000's and the lacklustre power options compared to direct competition is to blame.

    Lexus can’t just have two large sedans in their lineup so I suspect they’ll keep the IS. I hope they don’t get rid of the GS and instead change it to a 4-door coupe to go against Audi A7 and Mercedes CLS.

    Lexus did such a good job differentiating this from it's fraternal twin the Toyota Camry. I am disappointed they opted to keep it FWD though I do understand WHY they chose to do it, just don't believe they should've played it this safe.. The ES350 would not harm IS and GS sales or NX/RX sales if it had AWD. There is a fundamental design contrast between all FWD architecture vehicles and RWD architecture vehicles, even with AWD systems added. I do think it'd be cool if they at least made it an option and opted to make it standard fare on the F-Sport model with some sort of special torque vectoring differential, polished valves, cylinders, maybe offered the 3.5 liter V6 in a higher state of tune with the F sport to make closer to 335-345hp at a redline of around 7100RPM or something to cash checks written in the styling department. Oh well, still an excellent car I bet.

Because grown ups don't like to deal with headaches and the GS doesn't break. I own my ES350. I lease my Audi S4 and I would never own a German car except a Porsche.

BTW, I own the 2020 ES350 UL and its an amazing car for what it is. What its not is a Sports Sedan and many of the younger generation try and compare this car to those cars! If you want an unreliable car that's expensive to service and repair then by all means stay away from this car! While this car isn't perfect it easily fit my needs! Great safety features, best car in its class for safety (5 star), Excellent luxury features without going overboard, reliability, reasonable service and repair costs and excellent resale value and depreciation (Best in class). IMHO it also looks very nice and has great quality!

    Great review as always! I’m really considering going back to Lexus (my first love as an enthusiast & first lux as an owner was the ES) except for the horsepower. For now I’ll stay with Infiniti but LOVE what Lexus has done with the ES.
    Although it does remind me of the Mazda 6, it desperately needed the dope styling cues that the GS and LS received; love the direction in which Lexus is headed.

  • @user-pu9pz6ff9l
    @user-pu9pz6ff9l 6 років тому +5

    Great review. However - I agree with your last point in the video. The Lexus ES doesn't compete with the 3 Series or C-Class. The true competitor to those cars will always be the Lexus IS. I mean - how can Lexus think the ES competes with the 3 Series or C-Class. The ES is bigger, more luxurious, FWD, and under-powered, which non of which are comparable to the C-Class or 3 Series. Canceling IS also causes a huge price problem for their sedan segment. It will make their cheapest Sedan in the middle 50K loaded. Where is your RWD luxury sports sedans consumers going to go? Buy extra for the GS (which might be canceled) or the LS? If Lexus is thinking IS owners will buy the ES F-Sport if they cancel the IS, they are greatly mistaken - majority of IS owners will probably jump to MB, BMW, or Infiniti for the RWD entry-level sports luxury sedan.

    To remote start the vehicle using the key fob, you typically have to press the lock button 3 times, holding on the 3rd press for few seconds. That's how it is with the current Lexus ES 350, so I don't imagine that would have changed. However you do have the option of using the app as well... Also, it's a CD/DVD player... He was right on on the pricing though.

      Is there a reason for not having the seats fold down? Sometimes the headrests that are not removable Don’t make it practical. This has the center pass through like my Acura. It would be nice to have the rear headrest removable for visibility and have the seats fold down though.

    • @tonysterbenc
      @tonysterbenc 9 місяців тому

      @@sc666666 Yes. For 30 years, the ES has always had an added trapezoidal brace behind the rear seatback, and only a ski pass-through as a result. Evidently Lexus feels that luxury sedan / sport sedan buyers value the ride, handling and NVH benefits of a stiffer chassis more than cargo versatility. Of course, the Germans deliver both, but they have dedicated luxury-car chassis - Lexus's ability to build their car on humble family-sedan bones is why they can deliver a price advantage.
