I love how people say HDs are slow. I love most brands of 2 wheelers so I'm not massaging Harley, but my stage 1 103 (if I can launch it without burning rubber) can do 0-60 in well under 5, 4.3 or so. Sorry, but that ain't slow imo. Is it stupid fast? No. Is it hella fun. Hell yeah 👍. I'll keep smilin' on my slow Harley 😂

But what no one ever talks about is fuel consumption, I’d get around 100 miles a full take (5g). Not to mention if compression relieve valves were put in. When through Starters just about yearly. I tell people it cost $700 a year just to start the bike. I don’t know why I never got them done, that bike has been long gone. Super fun though.

I get it. I had a Hemi Durango for a while. It wasn't fast in the technical sense. It was fast in that it was a big heavy machine with a lot of power, and that just feels different than driving a small car will less power that is faster. All that being said, I wouldn't pay that much for a Harley that is slower than a Honda CB1100.

I have a 2016 SGS with a Tire Shredder (Stage 5) kit in it. It's a BLAST to ride, except for one thing....It runs HOT. I put an UltraCool 3.0 on it, and it still runs hot. But, I have left sport bikes at lights, and it took them a bit to catch up. I had a guy on a 103 based Softail tell me, "I knocked the pipe off my bike trying to keep up with you." (The muffler separated from the headpipe....) I was pulling against a buddy with a similar rig, going UP A HILL, and I let off at 110. He let off at 115. The thing has torque for days, except for the heat. I haven't noticed a difference in the clutch, even though the spring was upgraded. But, it has a hydraulic clutch, so that may affect it. It's not a Hyabusa, and I'm not saying it is. But, don't sleep on my Geezer Glide. I surprise a LOT of people with it.

When people say that Harley's are slow, they neglect two very important points:
    (1) Harleys are cruisers (yes, I know that not every Harley model was designed as a cruiser). Cruisers are meant to cruise and were never intended to be rice rockets. The same could be said for Harley's touring models. Thus, the PURPOSE of a Harley motorcycle needs to be taken into consideration before one lamely argues that it's not as fast as bikes made by Japanese motorcycle corporations.
    (2) The various Harley stages or upgrades can make the engine much faster and performance oriented than the stock engine. Although it will never be as fast as the latest street bike from Kawasaki or Suzuki, it has a lot of torque and can move quite fast when it wants to. Granted, it may not go 180 MPH, but would you really want it to when one considers the tremendous danger of traveling at such a high rate of speed? If your intention in riding a motorcycle is to race around at highest speeds imaginable, then Harley motorcycles are not for you. Besides, do you actually want to enjoy the sights and smells of your environment or just blow past everything at 150 MPH?
As in most things, the OBJECTIVE or PURPOSE of any particular motorcycle needs to be understood before criticizing it. In the case of Harley motorcycles, they were never intended to be street racing machines (with a few exceptional models). They were manufactured to be cruisers and touring motorcycles that were fun to ride and so that people could enjoy the best their travels would bring them.

I had an old Honda Blackbird and it was fast and was comfortable about 30 minutes at a time. You have to be young and limber to ride a crotch rocket. They are hard on your wrists and neck. My old 93 Heritage Evo has a cam, Jim’s Hydrosolids and a S&S carb and you don’t have to worry about getting out of the way of traffic or passing. To each his own.

@@jetstream454 True, but even then they're still not as fast as the higher performance rice rockets. They must be seriously worked on to perform at such high levels. It places an enormous strain on the engine because such stock Harley engines were never designed for such power. It's quite costly too I might add. Most Harley riders are not going to upgrade their bike to such measures.

Understand that this will have to be done between 45K & 50K miles...I got 47K miles, before I had to spend $2,700 to rebuild it, in addition to the initial cost of the kit, plus installation, exhaust, SE Heavy Breather, and tune, which was probably around $4,000, so I now have close to $7K in the motor alone! The 2012 Fat Boy (103ci) I bought brand new was straight up slow af. I had to do the stage 1 immediately and it felt like it doubled the power. The difference was night and day. I did the stage 2 about 6 years ago and there was a noticeable difference but not a big of a difference from stock to stage 1.

Hey Sean I got one for you. I've got a 2007 Street Glide that was great until the dealership ran a special on upgrade kits so I sprung and got them to install the 103 stage ll kit which I painstakingly broke it in "exactly" how it's recommended. A hassle but no biggie after all I'd broke another 2cam in the same b4 with good results. Anyway eventually the rotor & the stator went out which the dealership replaced and after that I could no longer go on the church rides I enjoyed going on because after a stop my bike would have to cool down for 45min B4 it would turn over fast enough to start because for an unknown reason the compression was too high when hot. Then the steeler said I needed compression releases. They're fired! I wish someone would trade me a Evo Heritage for the StreetGlide.

They had a current year Stage 2 FLTRX with boom audio on consignment for an owner waiting on a CVO. Only 7k on it and I knew the guy. He literally bought a new Harley every single year. He only wanted $16k for it. I left the house on a Super Glide and returned home on a Fugly. Aerosmith the whole way home. Wife just said "cool color." She's a keeper, mostly because she stole my Nightster and keeping her is the only way I get to ride it.

Engine mods are the most expensive mods. That is why buy the horsepower from the beginning from the factory. Less expensive to mod suspension. Even lighter, unsprung weight carbon wheels would be more cost effective as less weight helps handling, braking, and acceleration. Light weight lithium battery, lighter weight fenders, lighter weight TITANIUM EXHAUST. You can tell the difference between titanium vs other metals as the metal is the thinnest, more exhaust note.

This is why I'm glad I bought an Indian challenger. I don't gotta spend 15k on parts/labor, pushing 122hp and 128 torque from the factory. To the wheel its somwthing like 116 and 123 respectively. Amazing suspension, better handling, drive modes, more featuress...now they just gotta work on the paint jobs😁.

Man.. I wasn’t a huge fan of the m8 when I got my 2019 FLHR. LOVE LOVE LOVE Road Kings

You know, I tested a bunch of well, a few Harley bikes as a really young pup. On the point of cams and rebreathers mostly. I’ve personally seen bikes that would do sub 4 0-60. I know it’s not the best but.... you must have longevity and comfort. If you’re a leather face , extremity is your thing... remove your corners, safety, and endurance... there ya go. Whatever the case. Riders, look out for riders. Hey, I’ll leave you with John 15:1.
