I’ve owned four Harley’s! My first was a 1997 Sportster, second was a 2002 Electra Glide Standard, third was a 2003 Road King Classic, and today my current bike is a Gun Metal Blue 2003 Road King! I love the 2003 Anniversary Road King! The 88 Cubic Inch motor is more than enough power for me! I don’t care for a fairing or radio! To me, a radio distracts! I want to be able to hear the sound of nature around me! I simply love to take a nice ride! There is no better bike than the Harley-Davidson Road King!

I put over 60,000 miles on my 2005 RK classic and I loved that bike. I had to give her up because of arthritis in my hips and feet; I had trouble moving her around. Last year, I bought a Sportster because sitting out good weather is freaking hard but I hated the Sportster. This year, I'm looking at a small Suzuki or something similar; I can't sit another Summer. I don't think this guy gave you a whole lot of info on the ride but I can tell you this; you can ride them all day and never get sore or tired. Those seats have got to be the most comfortable seats ever. They are awesome at cornering, I had mine easily scraping the foot beds even on slow speeds. I took her on the Dragon's Tail (US 129) in Tennessee and had a ball. And, one more thing...I would put some Vance and Hines on one. I had those on mine and damn, it sounded good. I truly believe you need some noise on one because it will get attention of those damn texters. Have fun! If you see an older woman out there on a Suzuki or Honda this year, don't hold it against her that she isn't on that nice Harley. I have to get back on two wheels and some of these foreign bikes only weigh 400 pounds or less.

I bought a 2005 roadking last year with 40k on it, it was already up graded with the screaming eagle 95 kit, s&s gear drive cams and also has a batwing fairing and tour pack, they also replaced the leather bags with hard bags and painted everything to match. also has cruise control. So it looks like a ultra classic but in 5 minutes I can convert it back to a roadking. I have already taken a cross country trip on it and I love it.

I have a 2001 RK classic love the bike too. Has to be the most comfortable bike I've ridden . I switched the front wheels with fat daddy spokes and the rear with a 10 spoke chrome rim. I had the original spokes loosen up and put me into a severe wobble, other than that I've had 17 years of pure pleasure ridding this bike. I have ridden from the East Coast to the West Coast and back four time on this bike with no problems except for a few flats through the years..The Mustang seat was built for the RK you couldn't ask for a better seat.

I'm on my 3rd Road King, a 2014 Police , FLHP that I bought brand new while working at a dealership. My 1st King was a 2000 model with an 88 bumped to a 95 with gear drive cams and Mikuni carb, it was a Beast. My 2nd was a 2005 Road King Custom trade in the dealer didn't want so I got it with 112,000 miles on it, cheap, it was bought new there and also previous owner gave me 100% of the maintenance records, it's still going and never been apart except for the addition of gear drive cams at 77,000 miles when the tensioners went bad. I've owned every H-D model and keep going back to the King.

I'm an original owner of a 2003 Road King Classic in Silver and Black. The bike is awesome, I've lived off the bike on a cross country road trip for a month and was very comfortable. I did the cam chain tensioners at 40K. They looked to have normal wear. I think that this way overblown. I had AMS in TX. do their machining on the cam plate for increased oil flow and I think this is a good upgrade. I added a S&S 509 cam, and a Dynojet Powervision map by Fuel Moto and it's a noticable improvement. I added the Glide-pro stabilizing system with motor mount, RaceTech gold valves and Progressive Heavy Duty fork spring and serviced the rear shocks with heavier oil. I switched the brake fluid to DOT 4 and the front brakes feel much firmer. I'm so much happier with the bike now that after test riding a new Milwaukee 8 Road King, I wasn't impressed enough to buy one.

Well my heart has always been with this line, the FLs... I rode a Yamaha Royal Star for years before I committed to a Harley, and used was all I could afford, so I got a 1990 ElectraGlide (80 EVO), and I loved her so much... however, that awful-looking box on the handlebars (with the gages) was having electrical issues that were too much so I traded her for the bike I have now... 1999 FLHR... It was upgraded with a 95" Screaming Eagle, and Thunderheader pipes. It is carbonated (Mikuni), and has a hydraulic clutch (thank God). I have done nothing to it since 2012, except replace the starter, drive belt, tires, and that speedo wire thing on the right side near the starter... as far as performance goes. And of course fluid and plug changes on the reg... Added the tour pack and hard bags (with the hockey pucks on top), but still have the same old windshield that is now cloudy... so it is almost like I have a batwing fairing anyway LOL... That cam chain tensioner thing makes me nervous because I have and am riding the hell out of her, and like I said, never did serious work on her, and never had anyone open her up. I personally put over 100K on her and I am wondering if whoever upgraded the TC88 to the 95 Screaming Eagle, also did cams, and if so, the tensioner as well, that you mentioned on used bikes with 30K-ish miles...

So I have a 2008 Road King Classic with a 96 six-speed engine. I always figured the gear ratios were:
    1st: 0-25mph
    2nd: 25-35mph
    3rd: 35-50mph
    4th: 50-60mph
    5th: 60-70mph
    6th: 70+mph
I usually upshift after cresting 3K RPMs. I don't think it's had any stage work done to it but it did come with a Screamin' Eagle EFI Race Tuner Kit but HD doesn't have a service record indicating that it was staged up or tuned.
Please let me know if I'm wrong on the shifting range and RPMs.

Sean the Reason the Dyna got the 6 speed 1st was Harley Tradition, when Willie G. Davidson took over as the president of styling the 1st bike he produced was the Superglide, it was the big twin 1200cc FLH Frame, and the sportster XLH front end, the Birth of the FX. After the 71 Superglide FX All new idea's were tested on the FX motorcycles ........FXE 1st Electronic Ignition, FXB (Sturgis) 1st Belt drive, FXR 1st Rubber Mount, FXD 1st Dyna Frame, thus the new 6speed was used in the FX motorcycles 1st

The cam chain issue on the 88s is a significant issue. But, the guys I know are getting up to 100K or better before they quit. My best riding Buddy, my cousin, his lasted to about 125K. He rides an 04 Heritage Classic he bought new. And, he went from the east coast to Sturgis in 2013, in pretty much two days. One leg was 1700 miles in 23 hours, straight. Then his motor died. I'm currently riding an 01 Nightrain, that I got w two years ago with less than 4K miles. Today, 2.5 years later, it has 25K on it. so, the cam chain issue is important but I think I got aways.

My bike is in the shop getting the hydraulic cam chain tensioner and it is is now about $2300 for that and I am getting the 12" bars which is $2500. I can't wait to get it back even though it is a lot of money. When it is done maybe I will comment further.

The extra gear was for fuel economy, not speed necessarily, but for better fuel economy for long trips. Less stopping for fuel. That is why some of our big rigs today can do triple digit speeds up hill and down without a problem, for better fuel economy when driving long distance, when one keeps their foot out of it. Or it eats the fuel milage.

The Road King, aka FLHR, is a popular model with a proud history. Introduced in 1994, the Road King has roots going all the way back to the first FL model in 1941. The very first Harley-Davidsons crafted in 1903 resemble motorized bicycles. so how did some people ride a 1984 road king??

My buddies Dad bought one 10 years ago and I thought it was pretty cool but power was not the best. We popped the baffles out of the exhaust and put some bigger jets in her and She ran pretty good. He bought a Gold wing a couple years later and was much happier. I drove the Gold Wing and thought it had a better all around engine but it was not as nice to look at.

i just bought a 01 Road king that was wrecked but the motor and transmission is fine and most of it from the motor back is okay. It has a clean title and I paid $1,500.00 for it. The motor and transmission is worth more than that. Both my other Harley's are in great shape and need nothing so I am retired and bored so I wanted a project bike.
