I’m so sick and tired of sob stories, from criminals, of abuse against them, while growing up, and into their adult lives! My siblings, and I suffered through every form of abuse, throughout our childhood, and early adult years, but the abuse didn’t cause any of us to become criminals, let alone murderers!!🤬🤬🤬 We are all hard-working, law-abiding citizens! It is NOT that hard!!🤷‍♀️🤬

Maybe you weren’t predisposed to becoming a sociopath or psychopath. It isn’t only environmental, it’s also biological (brain structure, if I remember correctly.). Be grateful you aren’t them.

@Vicki Mariette while it's true only a fraction of abused people become hardcore criminals, it's also true everyone reacts to trauma differently. What one person can survive relatively intact can fracture another's psyche and cause dissociative identity disorder. Like most things trauma reactions are a spectrum, with extremes at both ends.

I think she wanted to leave once she had been caught and couldn't steal anymore. Probably had another potential target/victim so she needed the letter! That was evidence which would've prevented employment elsewhere. That is the only plausible explanation for the overwhelming desire to get the letter. Also, no witnesses to the embezzlement. So sad that these generous gentlemen died because of these filthy thieves. She stole 9000 dollars! For 2 LIVES! She could've asked the doctor for a loan and paid it off with extra work! Cleaning his home, walking his dogs, cooking for him, anything... Lazy and evil is her core character. My prayers for everyone that loved these two men. They are at peace.❤🙏

Maria & her boyfriend may have BEGUN by talking about just retrieving the letter, but I think eventually they decided they didn't want to pay back the debt at all...& their plan shifted to retrieving the letter and killing the doctor. Why else would experienced criminals break into a home at night, when the homeowner was guaranteed to be there (& in fact his car was in the driveway!). What I find interesting is that the good Dr ended up keeping the most valuable piece of evidence, the letter, in his pocket.

The jury system is expensive too, resulting in retrials because of one hold-out. We also need to examine the critical thinking capacity of the general public and its level of education. And finally, the jury selection process itself.

I’m an emergency room nurse now retired, and when the daughter said “I’m a nurse, I’ve seen blood and I can handle it and I’m going in no matter what you say” despite the victim advocate saying not to go in… you may be able to handle it in a work or emergency situation but it’s completely different when it’s your family member or loved one. Don’t be so thick headed if this ever happens to you. (God forbid!)

This is tragic and grievous all around. I am so sorry for the loss of Dr. Jarrett and his son, Greg. I am normally very strict in favor of the harshest sentences in cases like this. However; I do believe Maria seemed remorseful and repentant by writing the letter to the Dr. I also believe she could have been manipulated by her boyfriend for whom she might have (partially) embezzled the money. For me that created reasonable doubt, as well as the possibility of the detectives coercing her. Men and women, please be careful and wise about whom you allow into your life. No one is worth this.

Maria's lawyer has a twisted sense of justice. She said Maria "tried" to steal from her boss. She didn't "try", she DID steal from him. The lawyer also said Maria had already received redemption and forgiveness from her boss for stealing. The problem is: he didn't forgive her for GETTING HIM KILLED. Typical defense lawyer. Twist the truth at any cost. They believe the means justify the end. Well, look at the end for your client. If not for Maria, the men would never have been murdered.

There is absolutely no evidence of the doctor requesting that she write him a letter. Anyway, even if he had asked her to admit, in writing, that she had stolen from him, she should only have seen it as the doctor being careful, surely not as a threat ! Had he wanted to prosecute her, he could have easily done so. More likely, the admission was a method of enforcing repayment of her theft. She didn't want to repay it.
