As the owner of a 1990 registered MX5, i found your programme enthralling. My car has 70,000 miles on the clock, has a mega rare, professionally fitted towbar, detachable hardtop, chrome roll over bar and a stainless steel boot rack. It was undersealed from new in Japan and the panels are lazer straight and totally rust free. A respray is needed and i'm saving up a little every week from my pension, i'm 75, but when i go out in this superb little driver, i'm 35 all over again. I live in Deal, Kent, which is a coastal town and summer cruising is wonderful, just me and my dog, superb...
Hi Peter, I'm so glad you enjoyed the video enjoyable. Your car sounds like a lovely example and I hope when you get the respray it further enhances your enjoyment of your car. Mine is also in need of a respray and I'm looking forward to having all of my panels featuring the same versions of Neo Green, as over the years it seems to have changed slightly from panel to panel. Deal must be a lovely place to enjoy the MX-5, and what better co-driver could one possibly ask for?
I would like to mark it here, the best Miata video on UA-cam, with my 1990 NA Miata blue I got from one of my best friends in the middle of 2021. I will enjoy this beautiful car with all of you after 31 years since she came to this world, with 1M+ younger sisters!
Im not a car guy AT ALL this auto played after a random video i was watching but i still watched a decent chunk of this and can appreciate the effort and skill used in this well done sir.
There are facts I would like you to know. There is a Mazda MX-5 Miata NA called "Legendary Roadster" in Japan. Reservation started at Eunos stores nationwide in 1997. It is a rare "Mazdaspeed C spec" with less than 5 units in the world. I am one of the owners.
I clicked on this video (it was a link on a forum) expecting the usual 10 minute video covering all the already known and said stuff... but you took it one step above the rest in details, narration and editing! This is a 1 hour documentary any passionate owner (and even non-owners) should watch. You've earned a sub. Thank you!
I never saw this come up in my feed before. But I watched it from beginning to end. Thanks for confirming what I've always know about my 1990 NA. It's a special car. You see mine is painted in the design studio in California test colors of late 1989. Namely the Seafoam green. A little more special it has a Jackson racing MK1 SC under the bonnet (hood). I simply love this little roadster. And I have a few to compare it to. This car truly has brought back the roadster and FUN cars to the marketplace. Now 30+ years it's more significant then some others you might see at car shows even if it gets little respect from some in attendance. Yes the answer always is M I A T A
After 18 years of ownership of various miatas, I didn't know all the details you provided for in this awesome video! I had 2 1992 sunburst yellow miatas and neved knew that is was originally a white car with a coat of sunburst yellow oversprayed over the white paint! I always thought it was a 3 coat yellow paint! I also ignored that the original color on white cars had a clear coat sealing it :O
Thanks, Antonio. I'm so happy you enjoyed the video and found it insightful! I was super pleased when I learnt about the Sunburst Yellow Miata's paint process too. It was such a simple yet clever solution to the patchy paint problem.
In Germany the car was so sought after, dealerships imported Miatas (even in 89) individually, with a huge mark-up. Even today, a lot of MX5 NAs are Miatas.
That's interesting to know! It's amazing that buyers were so willing to pay such inflated prices for the car given that one of its primary draws was supposed to be its affordability.
@@AveragetoPoor Well in part it was the press' fault. An early article on the car in Germany's biggest car-magazine, for example, said Mazda will only bring 500 to Europe, since it's meant to be for the US only. this is one hell of a video. i cant fathom the fact there's over 200 miatas for sale in greece, where i live, but im going to attempt to buy one as my first car this summer and i truly hope i can convince my dad , who does not care about cars whatsoever. I'll make sure to show him this video as to why i'd want one. very well done job mate, i expected you to be much bigger than what you are.
Thanks for watching, Ricy. I'm pleased you enjoyed the video! All the best with buying a Miata this summer. A few years ago my dad, who wasn't particularly passionate about cars at the time, bought himself an NC Miata and not only does he love it, but it also ignited his passion for cars. If you can get you dad to take one for a test drive, I reckon he'll become hooked too! Best of luck!
After watching this, I'm surprised by the amount of attention this channel has! You deserve much, much more; and the amount of work and dedication here shows that.
Graham, I have owned an Mx5 Eunos roadster for the last 15 years and can honestly say that I have learned more in the last hour watching your presentation than I would have thought possible ! It really is the only car I have owned ,that makes me smile every time I drive it. I have jokingly referred to her as a timeless classic when chatting to my 'petrol head ' mates but from now on I will feel proud and grateful for the heritage and sheer class of what I have driven for all these years. Once again Graham - thanks mate 👍.
Hi Gareth, thank-you so much for your kind comment. I'm really happy you found the video insightful. My Eunos Roadster never fails to put a smile on my face either, and the stories surrounding its inception certainly make it that little bit extra special! I hope you get to enjoy schooling your mates on why your Eunos it the most heritage rich car of the group! Thanks for giving the video a watch and again for your kind comment!
Beautifully put together video, both narratively and visually. It's the perfect love letter to the NA. Transforms this model from just another car you see on the road to an icon representing a piece of automotive history.
Yesterday came across your channel. I wanted to know more about this roadster. WoW, thank you so much for your time to make this film. I am picking up a 2008 NC at the Mazda dealer today!! I am proud to ride this incredible Mazda with a rich history. Here in The Netherlands it is going to be a joy to ride after selling my Harley Davidson Fatboy also with a rich history!! Keep us enthousiats with your experience to ride these MX-5 Roadsters. Fun!!
Had a `89 Miata in Germany ( no 3. brake light, no lever to open the bonnet ), than a NB 10.Anni and now a ND 2.0. Also still have my trusted RX7 FC Turbo ... Great Video !
I have my Na in Brazil for about 15 years now. I read many books and even went to 3 laguna seca anniversary events and track days. Have also made some mods and keep learning all this time about the Miata and most off all, driving it. And I can tell that this video is just Great. Congrats !!👍
Hi Claudio, I'm so glad after 15 years you're still enjoying your NA so much, it sounds like you've had many adventures in your car! Thank-you for watching the video and for your kind comment!
This needs way more views! amazing efforts for an hour long video. As an NA owner, I wholeheartedly approve. I've had a smile on my face the entire time and i'm only 15 minutes in!
Jeez. You put a lot of work into it - and a lot of printer ink and paper too. As a videographer myself, I know how much scripting, writing and re-recording it took. Great job! Thank you! You have a new subscriber and a fan!
Brilliantly researched, narrated and executed. I have now watched this twice and likely to watch it again in the future. The amount of work in pulling this together isn’t lost on me. Well done!!
Good video, but there are some mistakes in the details. IAD engineers have a rather different story about the battery, and it involves going to the pub. A significant error, and its often repeated, is about the 1.8's performance, which is often put down to the modest increase in weight, but mostly due to Mazda's deliberate policy to change the final gearing from 4.3 to 4.1, to improve cruising speed and fuel consumption, but at the cost of a reduce 0.60 yardstick. The RS-Limited, who's suspension upgrades already featured the Japan S-Special and US R-Package, used a 4.3 final drive, with the result being a 0.60 around 7.9-8.0 secs. From 1996, the 4,3 gearing was standardised, but only in Japan. The details of the detuned cheap UK MX5 are also a bit off, because it doesn't explain why the earlier engine wasn't simply used. This 1.6 was really developed for Europe, where insurance rates were rocketing. It needed to be low power to have a reduced insurance rating. But Mazda mitigated this with the smaller brakes, but also stripping out the chassis braces. With a 0-60 of around 10s, its not so far off the original model, and is fun to drive. I had a M2-1002, it wasn't slower than standard. It didn't sell on account of the price, and was launched just as the Japanese economy fell off a cliff, which is largely why most of the other M2-Inc cars were canned. The Coupe was ready to go. The 1006 was priced up, costing about the same as a FD RX7, which really killed its prospects.
Hi, Andrew. Thanks for watching, and thanks for taking the time to jot down your comment and all the excellent information it contains. It was an insightful read. Regarding the IAD battery story featuring Brian Mesquitta, I hoped to mention it however having two stories about the battery slowed things down a little too much narrative wise. Unfortunately sometimes I can't feature absolutely all the information I'd ideally like to in these videos (although I do feature a lot) as it's important that the timeline of events remains easy to follow and the flow of the video keeps at a steady and constant pace. With that being said, I will try and squeeze a bit of extra information into my future videos, particularly so if it lends context to decisions made or vehicle statistics (such as the insurance rating of the later 1.6L engine or the gear ratios of the 1.8L cars). Thanks again for your information filled comment!
UA-cam is usually cited as Hell's rabbit hole, but sometimes it's heart-warming to see extensive & well-made videos like this. It really was a pleasure
This is one of the best videos I have watched on Miatas or even in general. I really hope your channel gets massive as this video shows how much effort you put into your videos. It is very well made. Well done.
Such a well researched and excellently produced video. I rarely comment on things, but such a good watch, an hour flew by. I'd love to see the special editions video ( the special s to be specific). Keep up the awesome work buddy. Cheers.
I just found this and can simply not believe that it doesnt have more views! This has to one of the most thorougly researched and produced automotive content on youtube! It is really visible how much time and effort you put into this especially regarding the narration and writing! I never got bored watching this hour long documentary! Thank You! Keep up the work!
Thank-you for your kind comment, Jordan. I really appreciate it and I'm happy you enjoyed the video so much! Thank-you for taking the time to watch it, I'll be sure to keep them coming!
So informative, I was transfixed for the whole hour! I never realised that there were so many special editions and by the same token have wondered why certain NA's fetched such a price; now I know. I have a 2002 MX-5 Mk 2.5 1.8 sport, a joy to drive and own. It's nice to understand fully it's pedigree. Thank you.
This is Art 🖼 I can appreciate you taking the time to make this video, it probably took a really long time and hours and hours of research and editing time. You are really talented my friend. Thank you!
@@AveragetoPoor Informative and entertaining. I'm currently half way through your Ireland road trip series. Equally as good and highly recommended. Your production values are spot on.
Ever since 1992, I've owned 10 Miatae. Only two at the same time, though! Three NA's, five NB's including one MSM, and two NC's. I've been thinking of getting an ND2, but honestly - watching your video made me seriously re-think getting a well-loved red and black NA... just like the first one I owned. And now - after owning several sports cars, including BMW and Porsche, I go back to the "Miata is Always the Answer" . Fabulous video Graham!
Wow what an amazing history of Miatas you've owned! My dad has an ND and I must say it's a really lovely car, but it's certainly a different experience to the NA. I have no doubt whichever generation you choose you'll have a wonderful time driving it. Thanks for watching!
@@AveragetoPoor I would like to get more information on the rear suspension. The whole car was so thought out. The engineering effort and attention to the drive train and rear double wishbone suspension has peaked my interest. In particular the softer bushing and the affect it has on handling. Your video has been the only one I know of to point this out. The Miata is so modifiable and like the Chevy, Ford and less so Mopar of the sixties and early seventies, the after market parts are plentiful. I say less so on the Mopar because some parts for those cars now are really hard to find. No so the case with Ford and Chevy, at least with my efforts. This is one of the things we enjoyed because of the ease to personalize your “Ride.” Miata aftermarket parts are wild, fun and more importantly available. And the early models are simple and and amateur such as myself can repair them. The Internet is ripe with people documenting what they have done to their Miata with great detail. Personally such videos has taken the fear out of tinkering with my car and has fed my addiction. You have added to that addiction because I have such pride that I own one of the first Miatas born January 1990. That perhaps is a silly thing but nevertheless I have more of an appreciation of this car than I would if I had chosen a car with less of a history. In my cars case, I know the complete history as she is a local car and I know all of the previous owners personally. Everyone must own a red convertible at least once in their lives and I have mine. Back to the rear suspension, I fear big mistakes can be made especially in alignment by a shop which does not know that the suspension is indeed different from others. This is the whole point of the ramble. Thank you for providing such good Miata “crack.” Miata Crack would be a great name for a website come to think of it. Ummmm, Thanks again.
Thank-you for watching and for your kind comment! I'm very happy you enjoyed the video! Thanks for the video suggestion, the MG F and TF have always been cars I've found very interesting (for both their good and bad reputations), so I would love to one day in the future delve further into their intricacies.
One of, if not, THE best video on the NA. You made me realize how passionate I am about this model when at the last 5 or something minutes I was really feeling moved and tearing up. Exceptional film, I really hope to get one for myself one day!
Thanks for watching, I'm so pleased you enjoyed the video! And thank-you very much for your kind offer, unfortunately we've already undertaken the trip to Ireland and Northern Ireland (your local advice would have been gratefully received otherwise). We had a wonderful time touring and got some fantastic footage that I can't wait to share! Thanks again!
Awesome video, super high quality and imfomative, I also love how you keep adding all the cars and images you use to the boarder of the white board. Additionally, I have some cool suggestions for future videos which I think would be intresting to watch and learn more about. 1. Bmw e31 850/840. It’s a really tragic story about an other wise futuristic and absolutely beautiful car. 2. The rise and fall and then the rise again of Maserati. 3. Koineg specials or any other 80’s German tuning company 4. Rise and fall of Group B
Hi, Trussedmetal. I'm so pleased you enjoyed the video. Those are some excellent topics for future videos, thanks for the suggestions. I've been wanting to do a lengthy video on Group B for a while, hopefully I'll get the chance to look into the video next year.
Exceptional video; you've done the NA proud. We own two - one for the road, the other for racing - and I cannot decide which scores the highest grin rating!
Amazing and inspiring production. Thank you! I just purchased my first Miata months ago and I am loving the ownership experience. It's a 1999 NB.1, a generation that maintains the NAs spirit.
Thanks (and thanks for your kind comments on my other videos too, I really appreciate them)! I'm glad you're getting on so well with your NB, they certainly do maintain the NA's spirit whilst in many ways improving much of the experience too! I imagine it looks fantastic parked next to your S2000!

Thanks, Nigel. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I'll certainly be making the Special Editions video at some point in the future.
this is one hell of a video.
i cant fathom the fact there's over 200 miatas for sale in greece, where i live, but im going to attempt to buy one as my first car this summer and i truly hope i can convince my dad , who does not care about cars whatsoever.
@@AveragetoPoor ah, that's great to hear and didn't expect such a positive reply! I'll definitely find a way to make him drive one!
After watching this, I'm surprised by the amount of attention this channel has! You deserve much, much more; and the amount of work and dedication here shows that.
Thank-you for watching and for your kind words, they're really appreciated!
Amazingly detailed and well researched. Thanks for all the hard work!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching!
Fun!!
I'd love to see all the special editions!
The amount of effort that went into this one video deserves 8 thumbs up from everyone that watches.
Had a `89 Miata in Germany ( no 3. brake light, no lever to open the bonnet ), than a NB 10.Anni and now a ND 2.0. Also still have my trusted RX7 FC Turbo ... Great Video !
That's a lovely history of cars. The 10th Anniversary Edition is one of my favourite NBs! Thanks for watching!
We definitely want the Special Edition video (but in the video it looks like you listed a few concept cars among them).
I have watched and rewatched this video. Absolutely award worthy writing and production 👑
Such an underrated channel. It's a crime you don't have more subs!
That's kind of you to say. Thanks, Lewis.
This needs way more views! amazing efforts for an hour long video. As an NA owner, I wholeheartedly approve. I've had a smile on my face the entire time and i'm only 15 minutes in!
This is absolutely brilliant!
Thank-you! I'm really pleased you enjoyed it.
The Best video I’ve ever seen ever! Thank you so much for it! Feel so proud and happy to be a part of the MX5 Community
Well done!!
Thank-you so much for watching, Tom, and for your kind comment too! I'm really pleased you enjoyed the video.
Amazing work! I have learned so much about my NA! Thanks a million!
Waouh ! Super bien réalisé ! Quel travail !!
Merci, je suis heureux que vous ayez apprécié la vidéo!
This is remarkable! Thank you, on behalf of all Miata NA owners!
Thank-you for your kind comment. I'm really happy you enjoyed the video!
This is one of the best videos I have watched on Miatas or even in general. I really hope your channel gets massive as this video shows how much effort you put into your videos.
It is very well made.
Well done.
Thank-you for watching and for your kind comment. I'm really pleased you enjoyed the video so much!
Such a well researched and excellently produced video. I rarely comment on things, but such a good watch, an hour flew by. I'd love to see the special editions video ( the special s to be specific). Keep up the awesome work buddy. Cheers.
Thanks for your kind words, Philip. I'm so pleased you enjoyed the video. I'll be sure to make that special editions video in the future!
Best by far... video re the background and history of the Miata I've ever seen. Bully. Great job and thank you!
Thank-you, Gordon. I'm so pleased you enjoyed the video!
probably one of the best and well made UA-cam videos I've ever seen!!! Nice job dude!
Thank-you for your kind words, Michael. I'm really pleased you enjoyed the video!
As an ND owner, in Ireland, great video!
Thanks, Thomas! The ND is a fantastic car.
@@AveragetoPoor loving it so far despite a few mechanical Gremlins. Have a good road trip around the country.
Amazing video!
Congrats! did not fast foward a second!
Thank-you for watching, Joao. I'm pleased you enjoyed the video!
Thank you.
Coming from a litre bike enthusiast , my mx5 changed my life, smiles per gallon❤️
i own an NA and its the best car ive ever driven, allways puts a smile on my face.
This is Art 🖼 I can appreciate you taking the time to make this video, it probably took a really long time and hours and hours of research and editing time. You are really talented my friend. Thank you!
Thank-you so much for your kind comment! You're quite right it took a long time to make, so your comment is really appreciated. Thanks for watching.
This.. is a proper historical documentary. Thank you. :)
Thanks for watching!
I thought I knew quite a lot about MX5's but I learned loads from this video. Thanks for uploading.
I'm glad you found it informative, Jai. Thanks for watching!
I watched the whole thing again. Delightful twice. Bought the book too.
Thanks for watching and then rewatching! I'm glad you enjoyed it both times. I hope you enjoy the book, it's a fantastic read!
You made me cry at the end 😂 Such a Beautiful car and awesome Narration. Well done.
Still got mine 25 years on . Lots of smiles .
Another really cool video mate. Cant believe you only have 10k subs.
It would be really nice to see a video on the MG cars like the 2000's MG tf.
Awesome video, I live in Northern Ireland so happy to help with your forthcoming trip.
@@AveragetoPoor No problem, happy to hear you had a great time, looking forward to the video. We have some great roads here, don't we? :)
I’ve just bought an MX5 MK4…. This video is amazing! I love my car but having seen this I really love and value it! Brilliant… thank you!
3. Koineg specials or any other 80’s German tuning company
This is one of the most enjoying informative videos I've ever seen
Thank you UA-cam algorithm for making me find this awesome channel
Thanks for watching Alexandros-Charis! I'm very glad you found the video and found it enjoyable too!
Exceptional video; you've done the NA proud. We own two - one for the road, the other for racing - and I cannot decide which scores the highest grin rating!
Thanks, Richard! Super cool that you have two set up for such different tasks!
I had watched this video the day before I bought my Miata
It's been a month, time to watch it again.
I would be very interested in an all limited edition episode. Especially if it’s done as good as this one. Cheers.
I'll certainly be making the special edition episode in the future. Thanks for watching!
@@AveragetoPoor Indeed. Thank you. The NB.1 and the Honda S2000 compliment each other and provide a different driving experience.
