Buckle up now folks. So I decide on the S5 with adaptive suspension and all the goodies. I find one in Henderson Nevada, so I run up the 100 miles to buy it (just outside of Las Vegas) and as I arrive some lucky guy was driving off in my old R8 which I traded 6 months ago to the Chevy dealer for 189k The guy paid 177k for it. Now the best part. I absolutely missed my R8 after trading it for a flashy slut of a supercar (honestly no disrespect here to Chevy, the Vette is awesome) But there is an immediate knowing that the R8 is worth the extra 75k when you are doing 140mph+ ...Back to the S5, the interior is 90% identical to my old R8. The seats are exactly the same as the R8 but now I have a massage daily. The dash and MMI is the same. I'm home. As far as how I feel about the S5 performance goes, for the money it is the best mid-sized car out there with respect to the comfort performance and economy balance they have achieved. A value widely sought lately as a result of energy policy and increasing fuel costs. The bottom line is that there is a wide consensus that Audi has hit a homer with the S5.

I was never a fan of fixed displays at all in cars, but I had an A5 Sportback in Premium Plus trim as a rental a few weeks back while on vacation and I really didn't mind it at all. The display was never in the way and I barely noticed it being there. The only thing that bothered me was that it wasn't a touch screen compared to my 2016 GTI but the scroll wheel only took a few minutes to get used to. This is a great video though because it is helping me make up my mind in a time where I've had a lot of sunroof and headliner issues fixed on my MK7 GTI in the last year of ownership. Now that I can afford a lightly used 2017-2018 S5, the GTI has to go before the winter snow melt starts soaking my GTI's interior and pissing off my passengers every time they open the passenger side visor. I'd like to pose this question though, is it worth looking back at 2016-2017 Audi S6's or BMW 550i xDrive's with the M-Sport packages for that step up to the turbocharged V8s, ventilated seats, and some other options that don't come in the S5 or its competitors?

Yes the RS3 is more fun to drive but S5 looks so much better and with a 500 eur tune you can make it faster than RS3. My S5 accelerates 0-100 under 4 seconds after installing the DTUK tuning-box
Which MY S5 have you got? 2010-2012 can get up to 450 whbp with a stage1+ (tune and sc pulleys), 2013-2016 cars get up to ~420 wbhp with just a map (most companies have not managed to do stage 1 with pulleys on those afaik), not sure what's the state of 2017-2019 cars?
No way an S5 can go faster than RS3. S5 Fully loaded will cost much more than a RS3 Tuned to begin with. Their numbers are not similar. Pricewise, I feel like maybe the S4 is much more of a comparison to an RS3. However, I will not argue on the interior and space as S5 is a much bigger vehicle which does offer more, with a dollar sign attached to it. I do like your videos @audisportmike

I have a completely loaded 2018 black SQ5, damn I wish massage were available, I considered the S5 sportback but I own a white 2015 RS5 Cabriolet which I sadly park for the 5 months of winter, that is a fun vehicle, and the sound! One odd thing I’ve run across is the amount of S & RS owners that do not know you have to physically press Dynamic twice to open up the exhaust, I know one RS5 owner that had never heard his exhaust in all its glory, push that button a second time to hear that rumble! This holds true for my SQ5 as well, even though the screen says Dynamic I have to select it again to get the full Dynamic experience, why?
If you start the car in dynamic, it will not be in S mode, but you don't have to select dynamic twice, just pull back on the shifter once to get it into S.
I bought my navarra s5 in 2019 as 18 model with 2300 mi on it, certified. I have owned it for 5 years, did a 3500mi road trip across 7 states; currently my s5 has 76k miles, changed tires on 41k (from pirelli to michelit pilot sport 4s) and so far so good. Currently have 74k miles. Only major issue was thermostat had to be replaced at 60k miles and i was out of warranty but State covered it. Did my oil changes every 5k miles and it drives amazing still to this day. Ah almost forgot; first thing I did when purchased it- did apr stage 1 chip tune, cost me $1100- it put me in same category of 0-60 and quarter mile as stock rs5. Can’t recommend this car enough.
S5 sportback over the RS3 any day. Unless you are a track - motorway person all the time; the S5 is more practical, comfort and still super sporty. Basically I agree everything A8 said in this video.
Used S5’s are the performance bargains of the century, certainly here in the UK they are. You can pick up the V8s for £8k ($10.5k) with low miles and full service history.
Very nice comparison - well done. Finally own a 2017 S5 Sportback in daytona gray and it´s just amazing.. loving it so much so far. Had a 2010 3.0 A5 Coupe TDI before which was also a good daily driver. But the S5 is sporty and such a nice car. My dream car comes true :)
I’m quite tempted by a S4 B8 avant for the family to pair it with my S3. A simple tune + e85 and you can rock 450+ bhp while being cheap on the gas side. But than what point is there to the S3? It’s a bit more sporty sure but idk. Interesting point you make about RS3, I wondering what kind of teenager has the money for it haha

Really enjoyed your review. Solid stuff and you went into detail on a lot of things that are more everyday than some reviewers. Going to look at your other material too.
@@ACCELER8TVHey, love the car and the review. I am looking into the B9 S5 and I was wondering if you’ve had any reliability issues or recommendations for spec/years since you made this video. Thanks!
Great review! I drive an SQ5 but I'm looking at the S5. You hit so many points talking about the RS3, but the size and interior put me off. Just a shame the beautiful RS7 is so expensive.
I am struggling to decide which Audi i want 😭😭😭 it’s seriously so hard... a few key points The Pro’s RS3: Engine, Sporty, Nimble, Cool factor, Rare, will Hold Value, DSG S5: BEAUTIFUL Interior, Excellent v6 Turbo, Sport Diff, might even handle as good or better than the RS3 (due to understeer problems) The Con’s RS3: Cheaper interior, understeer, Haldex, no sport diff, High price point S5: Doesn’t have 5 cyl, heavier, Wont hold VALUE...., not as aggressive looking, No DSG (the ZF8 is apparently excellent though)
It sounds like the 2022 RS3 handles significantly better now though. At least according to some of the reviews I've watched, it is no longer plagued with understeer issues due to the sport diff. Audi is claiming it's a legit track car now. I've currently got an M2 Competition which handles beautifully, and am strongly considering going to an RS3. That being said, my previous car was an S3, and I kinda thought the understeer complaints were exaggerated personally. The car actually handled pretty damn good.
Wish I could take a Lexus GS F engine, transmission and electronics and stuff them into this Audi. Then I could have the looks of this with the reliability of the Lexus. It would be the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup of cars.
Good vlog. I have recently bought an S5 B9. Love it. Just feels like such a well made car too. Plus love some of the little touches ( seat belt etc). I would say though that a “ 5 door coupe” is a contradiction in terms. The review is the sportback. The coupe which I have is 3 doors.
Now knowing the 2020 Q8 will have a v6 helped me A LOT, thanks! Concerning the frameless doors you make some very strong points I have yet to hear with ALL the Audi videos I have listened to. 1)Over time how long will the windows hold up, using them to close the door. I plan to have this car for awhile traveling back north east a lot 2) The windows will get stuck in cold climate weather. I understand on the Q8 the window will automatically raise up about 1/16", after the door is closed, assuming the window has already been fully closed when closing the door. This is big negative factor considering the Q8 or 7. Thank you so much for revealing so many golden nuggets to US! Keep them coming.
I keep a car for 6-10 years. Just depends. No car payments are awesome. Besides, I believe most cars aren’t worth the price. So I never have to much desire for another. Rather spend the money on family and nice vacations for example.
I had a b8.5 S5 and now I own and RS3... never looked back.... They're two different vehicles. S5 is more of a luxury car with taste of performance vs RS3 which is an all out performance car. If you plan to modify either, the gap grows exponentially... With just few modifications I'm well into 10s 1/4 and will get damn close to 9s on factory turbo, while S5 will see gains but won't ever see deep 10s. So using term FAST to describe both should be with an *... Fast for what it is but compareable, no... I'm just south of you so maybe one day when I go to St.Thomas I should have you come out and try this car out :). It will make you want your RS3 back :).
The 5 cylinder engine is one of the greatest engines Audi has ever made .. The RS 3 Sedan employs permanent quattro all-wheel drive with no set torque distribution. The all-wheel drive system adjusts and fine-tunes to help maximize grip and overall control, sending power to the wheels with the most traction
It's a simple decision no kids RS3 ..I am a proud owner of the RS3 also such a rare car I have stage 1 tune 525 HP beating porsche's that cost well over 100,000
Love all your videos homie? I’m down to either a fully loaded 2023 all black S3 or the mid level A5. Both around the same price. No kids. 50 years old. Don’t need to haul much around. Live in Vancouver. Owned only GTI or R my entire life. S3 is all I need but the A5 looks more mature and manly. Want something sporty and fast and nimble. S5 is a bit too much maybe. And the V6 adds to gas costs. Any thoughts or recommendations or tips? Thanks.
I test drove a couple 2018 B9 S5 sport back’s earlier this week, tbh, when i went and sat in an S3 it felt less sporty and less cockpity than the S5 which i was NOT expecting, let alone the B9’s interior is wayyyyyy nicer and i mean it’s milea ahead, the S3 felt so cheap, the S5 was so comfy, felt solid. I didn’t even need to drive the S3 i knew it wasn’t what i wanted as soon as i got to sit in and drive the S5. Plus you can get a sports diff, real Quattro, 😍 RS3 is just out of my budget but really the only thing the RS3 has going for it is the 5 cyl.... and that’s it....
Nice to see a fellow Ontario resident:). I have had my S5 Sportback since it came out! I enjoy it very much. It gives you the performance, luxury feel and enough room to utilize the rear seats. RS3 is a completely separate segment
What is the S5 like in Canadian winters? Specifically Ottawa that gets more snow and colder than GTA. How does the quattro handle on snowy roads (assuming there are 4 winter tires are installed).
ACCELER8 the car was fun for awhile. To be honest the engine noise with the supercharger got old after a couple months. That’s all you could hear, the acceleration was incredible but it was all engine and not much else
I could see that, it’s a bucket list car to experience... but not the whole experience lol You now have refinement, whole different ball game. Enjoy the car man, it’s well priced for what it offers
ACCELER8 yeah it was a cool experience without a doubt. Just not the best daily driver I love my Audi’s. This is number 5, just gotta learn all the technology that’s packed into it
I was kinda hoping he would go a bit into service, and how that whole process was like. For me that was a make or break when I was leasing the BMW M340i.
I just traded my 2021 TTRS for a 2023 S5. I do miss the performance on the RS, however the S5 has everything the Rs did not. The RS was essentially a toy with minimal extras.
I was cross shopping those two a couple months ago. Chose the S5 simply because it had power seats. Still blows my mind why there are no power seats option in the US for the RS3. My S3 even had it. S5 makes me feel old. Going back to RS3 next gen tho...if they have power seats.
..... comparing apples to oranges never compare a s3 to a rs3..... Why would the RS3 come with power seats.... its meant to be a aggressive super rocket performance vehicle.... Similar to that of M models with old fashioned manual adjusting seats and not power seats.
Way back in 1989 I bought a Ford Tear ass, I mean an SHO. It had a Yamaha 6 Cylinder that when tested at Yamaha they set it at 12,000 RPM's and went to lunch. It could run all day. I bought 2 of them back then because they sounded like Indy cars if you opened up the exhaust they were rippers. My thought was dam, I want this motor in my boat, it would be insane. I never got round to it though.
I’m have a BMW 535i, I’m still deciding on the S5, this car is gonna slightly smaller than me car but faster. you are just like me on choosing exterior color. And I have two younger kids, still haven’t decided it.
Hey buddy. Please help. Am 31 and a father of 2 in Singapore. Currently driving an E90 M3. But am thinking of switching to Audi after I sat in my buddies Rs3 daza. Damn it's so fast. But am stuck between the Rs3, B9 S4 or Rs4( no 2018 available in Singapore as of now)

GREAT REVIEW !! I was about buy a S5 but i changed my mind.. i do love this car but i live in Canada, this window without frame is a no-no for winter lol
I have an S3 and I’m really tempted to get an S4 avant for the family, but then I’ll pick a B8 for the sweet 450+ bhp compressor I guess.... so many choices! X)
Looking for a front license plate mount that will be front and center on the grill. My S5 didn't come with one. If anyone knows a place I can pick one up it would be greatly appreciated!
No. The seats look nice, but hardly awesome. Few things in the world are truly awesome. What do you think of the RS5 Sportback? I plan to buy one in the near future.
You don’t get front slippage because the RS3 has a different type of Quattro and it’s not torsen. Why do I know more about these than you without owning one
I’ve had an RS5 coupe. I have an RS3 now and prefer it. S5 and even RS5 are lovely, but boring. No excitement. Feel big and bloated. My wife has a Q5 and it’s a shame that a 110k RS5 just felt like a lowered Q5 interior wise. RS3 feels special. Exciting and handles a lot better. No question the S5 and RS5 are bigger and quieter, but that got really boring after 1 year for me.
@@3000gtVic RS5 sportback. Unless you want 2 door. RS3 is a great car. But it’s interior is a let down. Hate the manual seats. But I’m getting older. It’s too boy racer for me. RS5 sportback is just more rear biased and refined.

I think the caddi is better looking on the outside and the audi is better looking on the inside. As far as drive goes the ct4 is better in warm climates. The ct5 is has better steering but in winter the audi is better. Hard to be in-depth over text!
@@ACCELER8TV thanks for the reply, great insights! Can you comment on handling/which feel more rear driven? Does your S5 have the sport diff? I’m not crazy on the CT4 as it’s a 4-cyl, but I’m pretty impressed with the CT5, and it’s great to pick the brain of someone who’s owned the s5.
Have to be careful of that boot... few times when i am loading things the boot auto closes and that safety measure for the boot to stop closing doesnt work all the time

Agreed!
Used S5’s are the performance bargains of the century, certainly here in the UK they are. You can pick up the V8s for £8k ($10.5k) with low miles and full service history.
Can the same be said about 335i in the UK?
Very nice comparison - well done. Finally own a 2017 S5 Sportback in daytona gray and it´s just amazing.. loving it so much so far. Had a 2010 3.0 A5 Coupe TDI before which was also a good daily driver. But the S5 is sporty and such a nice car. My dream car comes true :)
Congrats man! That’s a sweet car in every level as a dailu
RS3 for teenagers, or for second car and S5 or the S4 as i prefer for a daily is certainly the wiser choice
Powerlove What teenager has an RS3?
Teenagers driving a $70,000 car
Mr. Market me xD
I'd get the S5 in black.
yeah, looks best in black for sure
Moving from an S4 B9 to an Rs3 . I felt the Rs3 is noticeably quicker
I pic the Audi S5 Sportback two years ago ! But I’m waiting for a used one !
Sweet lord I wish I wasn't wearing headphones for that intro
I agree, that intro just wake me up hah

@@Dani4B depends on which lord, could've just been calling him the lord of audi reviews.
That 5 Cylinder engine with Quattro is all I can ask
Going to be either a Q8 or A7
S5 uses a different (better) quattro system than the RS3
Torsen vs haldex gen 5. One if better than the other and viceversa. My S5 wouldn't pull a 1.7sec 60', my RS3 will do it all day long.
#teamhaldex
@@dhruvaggarwal1024 my A5 has the Quattro and has failed 3times,transfer case replaced under warranty 3times. I sold my A5 B9 and bought a RS3.
The RS3 is a CRAZY fast car when modified...like super car caliber!!!
Really enjoyed your review. Solid stuff and you went into detail on a lot of things that are more everyday than some reviewers. Going to look at your other material too.
Appreciate that!
@@ACCELER8TVHey, love the car and the review. I am looking into the B9 S5 and I was wondering if you’ve had any reliability issues or recommendations for spec/years since you made this video. Thanks!
you pick the S5 Coupe
Great review! I drive an SQ5 but I'm looking at the S5. You hit so many points talking about the RS3, but the size and interior put me off. Just a shame the beautiful RS7 is so expensive.
Thanks for the support and glad you liked it!
I am struggling to decide which Audi i want 😭😭😭 it’s seriously so hard... a few key points
The Pro’s RS3: Engine, Sporty, Nimble, Cool factor, Rare, will Hold Value, DSG
S5: BEAUTIFUL Interior, Excellent v6 Turbo, Sport Diff, might even handle as good or better than the RS3 (due to understeer problems)
The Con’s RS3: Cheaper interior, understeer, Haldex, no sport diff, High price point
S5: Doesn’t have 5 cyl, heavier, Wont hold VALUE...., not as aggressive looking, No DSG (the ZF8 is apparently excellent though)
Very well said!
Great review, really like the style of these.
Thanks for your kind words, I’m glad it’s helping out! I’ll make sure to point out as many of those nuggets as possible
2019 Q8 has a V6 too
I have an S5 and NEVER have closed the door using the window glass...always use the edge of the door itself.
Yeah curvy is awesome
True!
B9 S4/5 into 10s now! Hybrid turbo and a tune
Im 6'3" and i got the S5 comfortable and got it tuned stage 2+ and its fast 💨 rs3 is small
Nice!
You are the best at comparing in real life terms and the S5 SB is my kind of car!!! Thanks!!
Oorrr, RS5 Sportback
Hahah! We’re on a “budget”
Why get a RS5 .... V6 RS3 just as fast sounds better..... new RS5 is straight garbage.
@@Squeezemycrackers bc RS3 doesn't have a v6.... doesn't have true Quattro
... can't fit nearly as much
The 5 cylinder engine is one of the greatest engines Audi has ever made .. The RS 3 Sedan employs permanent quattro all-wheel drive with no set torque distribution. The all-wheel drive system adjusts and fine-tunes to help maximize grip and overall control, sending power to the wheels with the most traction
ACCELER8 I would just have the S5 opened up and tuned. Save the money than paying 80+ for an RS
It's a simple decision no kids RS3 ..I am a proud owner of the RS3 also such a rare car I have stage 1 tune 525 HP beating porsche's that cost well over 100,000
I would edit that slightly and say... kids Yes. Wife No!
Plus you can get a sports diff, real Quattro, 😍 RS3 is just out of my budget but really the only thing the RS3 has going for it is the 5 cyl.... and that’s it....
great review buddy, thank you!
People don't buy sedans? ... corolla : hold my 4 doors
lol.
ya that's the trend, unfortunately...Small SUVs and crossovers.
People who are shopping for S5 or RS3 will not even think about corolla or civic
Thanks for the post! I’ve been considering both these cars, so this is the video I’ve been wanting.
Very happy it helped you! Hard to know what to talk about exactly, but I try and come across from the perspective of the buyer
Nice to see a fellow Ontario resident:). I have had my S5 Sportback since it came out! I enjoy it very much. It gives you the performance, luxury feel and enough room to utilize the rear seats. RS3 is a completely separate segment
The S5 is a lovely machine. The video is well done. Thanx.
Thank you!
RS3 in nardo grey tho
What is the S5 like in Canadian winters? Specifically Ottawa that gets more snow and colder than GTA. How does the quattro handle on snowy roads (assuming there are 4 winter tires are installed).
Awesome review. I just traded in my Hellcat today and got an S5 prestige coupe!!
Dayyymmm... Tell me what you didn’t like about the hell cat!?!?
ACCELER8 the car was fun for awhile. To be honest the engine noise with the supercharger got old after a couple months. That’s all you could hear, the acceleration was incredible but it was all engine and not much else
I could see that, it’s a bucket list car to experience... but not the whole experience lol
You now have refinement, whole different ball game. Enjoy the car man, it’s well priced for what it offers
ACCELER8 yeah it was a cool experience without a doubt. Just not the best daily driver I love my Audi’s. This is number 5, just gotta learn all the technology that’s packed into it
Awesome review! entertaining and very honest!
I just think that car looks soooooooooooo much sexier than the 3
I was kinda hoping he would go a bit into service, and how that whole process was like. For me that was a make or break when I was leasing the BMW M340i.
All German cars under 4 years usually cover servicing.. so hard to compare.
You get older and the decision between picking these two becomes a no brainer.
What are the like to tune and mod if you want a bit more performance out of them. Stage. 1 or 2 cost etc performance boost?
I just traded my 2021 TTRS for a 2023 S5. I do miss the performance on the RS, however the S5 has everything the Rs did not. The RS was essentially a toy with minimal extras.
At 5:29 Hilarious because that’s accurate 75% of the time whether your foot action is correct or not. Audi, whats the deal with this?
It only refuses to open when I'm carrying stuff. If I walk behind it in the garage though, no problem...
We need to see a review on the new RS3 !
Do you know about The feature that you can close the car window from the outside without having to open the car door?
I was cross shopping those two a couple months ago. Chose the S5 simply because it had power seats. Still blows my mind why there are no power seats option in the US for the RS3. My S3 even had it. S5 makes me feel old. Going back to RS3 next gen tho...if they have power seats.
sanjay sinclair LoL! Same feeling!
..... comparing apples to oranges never compare a s3 to a rs3..... Why would the RS3 come with power seats.... its meant to be a aggressive super rocket performance vehicle.... Similar to that of M models with old fashioned manual adjusting seats and not power seats.
This is great content - just subscribed!!
Glad you enjoyed!
What about maintenance cost witch one is more expensive the s5 or rs3
Personally I would love a RS3 engine and transmission in an S5 sportback
RS5 is what you're looking for then.
Ok still deciding should I get a 2018 rs3 or s5. See I love going fast and I love modding cars so will the s5 be better or rs3
I’m stuck between a c7 S6/S7 or the B9 S4/S5.
Nice review. Thanks for sharing !
Awesome video man! Thank you so so much for this!
No worries! Glad you enjoyed it!
But how’s the maintenance? Is it $300 for an oil change and $1500 for brakes just like Porsche? 😅 asking for..a friend
I’m have a BMW 535i, I’m still deciding on the S5, this car is gonna slightly smaller than me car but faster. you are just like me on choosing exterior color. And I have two younger kids, still haven’t decided it.
Just feels more “alive” that the 535. It is a bit tight in the back with 2 young kids.
But this is the time before they get tall!
ACCELER8 thanks for the feedbacks! Great video btw ❤️
Hey buddy. Please help. Am 31 and a father of 2 in Singapore. Currently driving an E90 M3. But am thinking of switching to Audi after I sat in my buddies Rs3 daza. Damn it's so fast. But am stuck between the Rs3, B9 S4 or Rs4( no 2018 available in Singapore as of now)
Small roads, buy the smaller car. But if all the cars are small and you want something more luxurious but the S4. But it’s not as zippy
@@ACCELER8TV 1 set back is the interior of the 8v.2 rs3:( it's not "Audi interior" like? Ideally would be the B9 rs4 but that's avant...sedan = S4....damn it this is hard....
Ironically, you can average 10.6 on VW Atlas powered by 2 litre TSI. At one time, we were able to average 8.6 easily. 2 litre TSI is fuel efficient engine.
GREAT REVIEW !!
I was about buy a S5 but i changed my mind.. i do love this car but i live in Canada, this window without frame is a no-no for winter lol
A car cover may help?
is 3.0tdi more reliable than the 3.0 tfsi petrol?
You’re not supposed to use the windows shut the door. You should always shut the doors using the door or the door handle
thanks, the comparison i was looking for
the active cruise control is fucking boss ...
Truth!
I have an S3 and I’m really tempted to get an S4 avant for the family, but then I’ll pick a B8 for the sweet 450+ bhp compressor I guess.... so many choices! X)
What a time to be alive!
Can you even buy a RS3 with traffic Jam assist?? Whats the "cheapest" model you can get Traffic Jam Assist in?
Do you mean adaptive cruise control with stop and go assistance? Yes, it's part of the driver assistance package for the RS3. It works really well.
8:03 thats torsen for ya
DjCombala4964 true
Looking for a front license plate mount that will be front and center on the grill. My S5 didn't come with one. If anyone knows a place I can pick one up it would be greatly appreciated!

@@ACCELER8TV Thanks! Im guessing they are going to charge a lot more than finding one online somewhere but ill check it out! Great videos by the way!
What about a 2019 S5 vs a 2018 S6? Anyone know the comparison?
Very well said and that is the overall consensus. Grab your used Rs3 while they are still available
Do you still have your RS3? I can’t decide between getting the rs3 or rs5 lol.

How would you compare this to the ct5-v that you recently drove?

Damn! Crazy man. Really sucks if you are a car guy
After owning a three for quite some time, I’m wishing I had picked this up instead. Next time!
I think it works out better for the long term over the 3. But short term, the 3 is more “alive”

There are people who have gotten the S5 SB to sub 4 second 0-60 using launch control
Doors. The Audi 5 series is the ONLY Audi with 2. Coupes are better than sedans unless you have children
The S5 is also a much nicer place to be. It's almost as fast as the RS3 and MUCH nicer over any distance

I would have loved to but when i got the car, they just didnt offer it as an option until the next update! urgh!
If someone closes my doors using the windows I'm gonna backhand them across the face. Use the doors!
