THANK YOU GUYS SOOOOOO MUCH for doing these new vs old videos. I'm sure manufacturers probably don't like you doing them but for the car enthusiast is SOOOOOO important but no one does it. Thank you so much. Keep up the great work.
This is properly good car content, the best on UA-cam. It’s not materialistic, it’s not sponsored by a manufacturer and it makes things relevant if you’re super rich or buying on a budget - it’s pure petrol head 👌
I've never been in a new RS5 but owned the older one and have to agree, there's something about it that pulls on the heart strings. It looks amazing (ours was Misano Red), was comfy for what it was, and I never, ever got sick of hearing that engine. I loved every minute, right up until we got a 5 figure repair bill for the gearbox.
Sounds like the previous owner deferred scheduled Maintence on it. I have almost 120k miles on mine and have never had an issue with the transmission. I did install an aftermarket transmission mount around 110k which made the shifts feel a lot smoother (less lurch, especially in between first and second). Not sure if it helps reliability all that much but it was pretty cheap and an easy install.
@@xxbucajucaxx7426 did transfluid at 115k (not sure when/if it was done before that). Hasn’t needed clutch pads replaced. Just hit 120k about a week or so ago.
I have a 2019. Engine cover is carbon fiber. It looks pretty cool. Not sure why yours didn’t have one. Also with the turbocharged V6 not only does the car accelerate faster with 100 more torque, the other added benefit is I get 30mpg on the highway, compared to low 20s with the old model. Also love the carbon ceramic brakes. Apple CarPlay is a big plus. I love the UI. Bang and olufson sound system is amazing. Massage seats. RGB interior lighting. Door sill lights. Power lift hatchback is huge. Tons of safety features including basically autonomous driving on the highway with traffic jam assist. 360 rear view display, heads up display, etc. There’s like a million reasons to prefer the new one. It just doesn’t have the NA V8. It’s still an awesome car to have as a daily driver.
The new one is not a driver car ,it has no soul for this price i will buy a gtr instead if you want speed, this is why i love lamborghini N/A AND the sound.5 sec faster i do not care give me the sound instead

I don't know how else to compliment you guys and yet feel compelled to do so. The show is perfect, the only complaint I have is I want more shows immediately ( and yes I've already re-watched the old ones.)
I have to agree. The new designs, plus pulling V8's out.... not doing it for me. I will take the old stuff any day. Give me that massive, mean grilled front, with the roar of the V8, and im happy :D
As an owner of a 2010 E63 (the last year they put a few 6.2 V8's in it) i would watch the comparisson for sure, but with the safe and cosy feeling that i would not trade mine for each of them!
I just bought a 2014 RS5 a week ago, because of this video. Prism silver crystal effect is absolutely stunning on this car. Thank you for the amazing content.
I have 2013 RS5 with an X pipe. Absolutely love it. The rev matching downshifts never get old. The blips when upshifting are addicting. The Blue one in this video more than likely has the same or an aftermarket exhaust.
You guys really knocked this episode out of the park! It really gave me Top Gear in its prime, vibes. Funny, yet incredibly in tune with the emotions you experience when driving the cars. Bravo and keep up the good work!
I bought a blue one with silver trim with the help of this video. What a great decision. It's such an emotional car to drive. Thank you for such a great video.

For me it sounds very similar yo the E92 M3 GTS.... In that time you have these RS5, the M3 GTS and the AMG C63 Black Series, all of which they've glorious V8 NA engines that revs up to 8500 rpm. Love all those cars. Edited december 2022, Mustang GT350 sounds similar too, maybe even better.
I have a 2011 rs5 with the optional sports exhaust, not really heard of this titanium option. But it does sound very much like the 2013 rs5 in the video.
titanium package. Came which was black optics, carbon engine cover and sports exhaust back in 2013 in Canada. My car (one in the video) is completely stock.
@@leenguyen3875 I actually own the 2013 RS5, also in blue. Mine does sound like that (Yes stock), you sometimes need to push it first until the exhaust heats up a little. Maybe you've got the chrome(standard) exhaust?
The titanium package is just a visual package. It also comes with the standard sports exhaust(which without the package costs around 1500$), but it doesn't sound like this...this is not a stock exhaust, I drove 2 with the sports exhaust...it isn't this good even in a tunnel.
Just stopping by to say I recently got a 2015 RS5. 70k miles, pristine interior. Absolutely in love with it. Honestly not sure what more I could want in a car. These are the biggest bargains ATM. 90k msrp, basically a third of the price. Barely any for sale in the entire country. Rarely see one around. Nice review! I’ve been thinking about selling my RS4 cabriolet, but this review is making me think about the reasons I got it in the first place. V8, manual, AWD, convertible, can fit the whole family, and it’s 1 out of about 300.
If you have a V8 car hold onto it. Go and spend your money and get it rebuilt if you have or a full diagnostics and get a service that goes into detail. The only real option for V8 today is a Mustang and if you live in America there are few other options.
The old rs5 is like an older brother that still lives in his parents house and the new rs5 is like the younger brother, yes hes a doctor earns 60k monthly but even all that, the older brother is the favorite son

Holy crap take my WRX hatchback and my 3 series BMW and a blank check...fill in whatever amount you think is fair. Holy crap I need this car in my life... Amazing video guys, wow!
I know this comment is late to the party, but I wanted to drive my B9 RS5 enough to give my 2 cent’s. As a former B8.5 RS5 owner who traded it in for the new B9 RS5. So many people get hung up on the B9 being a V6 vs V8. The new RS5 would dog out my B8.5 easily. The B8.5 had no torque for how heavy it was and in day to day driving you need torque over HP. Plus, I have the Sport Exhaust and it doesn’t sound bad at all and I can always get a aftermarket exhaust. I also had a Stage 2 B8.5 S4 that would have smoked my B8.5 RS5. While the B8.5 RS5 is a beautiful car still, much like the B7 RS4, the new RS5 just pulls like crazy when you need it. I can’t wait to slap a tune on it, something that you can’t really do and get any numbers out of it on the NA V8. Just saying.
Hello folks! I have been debating myself what performance sport to buy. Choices were C63 AMG, RS5 and M4. Your video was one that influenced my choice and I went with RS5 from 2014. What an engine that has! Traded my 2016 SQ5. Keep producing great videos! Cheers!
This is one of my favourite videos from Throttle House. Love both generations of that car. That’s an excellent comparison. I currently drive the 2018 S5 and I do have to say, the build quality on the B9 vs the B8 seems to have slipped a bit though. Great from the factory, but lots of rattles and squeaks in the car by 50,000km, chrome peeled off the exhaust tips by 30,000km (normal wear according to Audi Canada)... etc But that being said I still love that car and I doesn’t have nearly the power that RS5 does.
Thank you!!! This is one of your best videos yet, I have been waiting for a good video on these cars. As someone who has owned/dailyed the early gen and tested the new one multiple times, this is the perfect opportunity to say that there is no replacement for displacement (sorry I had to). Also those seats in the 2013 are to die for.
Basically, what I’ve learned is that a V8, and sound, are basically more important to people than torque numbers and “new”. Which, I have to agree lol Honestly, most new cars are going the “downgraded” route with V6-everything, and twin-turbo-everything. Some are great, but honestly, most of it does not do it for me. I need my V8’s, and superchargers. Could care less about faster off the line, etc. As long as I enjoy the car, who cares lol

Nah it ain’t 5k. Rear brakes are 800 for rotors, sensors and pads are 200. Another 300 for labor, a couple grand for the front. It’s only 3500. I also own the 2014 r8 v10, it ain’t that bad.

2013 RS5. The design can roll out of the showroom today and win.
I’m completely serious when I say that THIS video led me to start looking for, find, fall in love with, and purchase a 2014 RS5! I’ve now had three month’s worth of that vehicular viagra and I oddly have you to thank Throttle House!! Keep doing what you’re doing guys!

It might even be nice to compare V8 M3 vs 2013 RS5
@@schagsim that comparison has been done so many times. Throttle house are the only ones doing predecessor vs successor so just let them stick to it
F80 VS G80 would be equivalent to this
The E90 M3, W204 C63 and B8 RS4/5 were the pinnacle of German naturally aspirated V8’s.
James- "Life's just better on the other side of 7,000 RPM." Get that quote on a t-shirt! Haha
@WhatIsGoinOnPeople how often are you changing fluids on the gearbox? Have you ever had to change/adapt clutchpads?
@@xxbucajucaxx7426 did transfluid at 115k (not sure when/if it was done before that). Hasn’t needed clutch pads replaced. Just hit 120k about a week or so ago.
Must have not owned it long considering Audi wants almost 6k for front brakes and pads.
All my years of watching Throttle House this the the best sounding car I have ever heard on the channel.
The older version is such a looker!! It seems like the design departments of these manufacturers are just losing the plot.

I have 2013 RS5 with an X pipe. Absolutely love it. The rev matching downshifts never get old. The blips when upshifting are addicting. The Blue one in this video more than likely has the same or an aftermarket exhaust.

There’s no way that exhaust came from the factory. Never heard of this titanium exhaust as an option, but if it is, it’s definitely a must have.
I have a 2011 rs5 with the optional sports exhaust, not really heard of this titanium option. But it does sound very much like the 2013 rs5 in the video.
I have one. Not factory nor is it the sports exhaust. Most likely it has capristo exhaust... 4-5k
titanium package.
Maybe you've got the chrome(standard) exhaust?

l got goosebumps just from listening that V8 Audi
Great from the factory, but lots of rattles and squeaks in the car by 50,000km, chrome peeled off the exhaust tips by 30,000km (normal wear according to Audi Canada)... etc
But that being said I still love that car and I doesn’t have nearly the power that RS5 does.
Oh wow. I always assumed Audi interior quality lasted years. I have a A3 with 45k kms, I didn't notice any rattles or creeks.
@@SimRan-ur5nl 😅 you got 5k kms to sell it before it starts squeaking

Thank you!!! This is one of your best videos yet, I have been waiting for a good video on these cars. As someone who has owned/dailyed the early gen and tested the new one multiple times, this is the perfect opportunity to say that there is no replacement for displacement (sorry I had to). Also those seats in the 2013 are to die for.
The B8.5 will always look and sound better than the B9.
That goes for the S5 too.
Literally bought a b8 rs5 after watching this. Never been happier.
What mileage you got? I am searching for one too
And this is why I love my S4. Best car I've owned hands down. Fun on the dynamic weekends and great on the comfort commute.
