I bought a 21 prestige in Daytona gray with black optics last summer. Love it in almost every way. Couple of things that annoy me: 1. The stock continentals are horrible. This was mitigated by Michelin Pilot sports A/S which are thicker, and cover the rims better as well as close off some fender gap 2. I have 17k miles on it and the seat is starting to wear a little especially on the bolster on the drivers side. I even try to sit in a way where I don’t „damage” it. This is my “maybe someday” dream car. I really like Audi’s subdued styling and I love hatchbacks. I have an older A3 sportback from when they still sold them in the US, and it’s been a great car. Great review as usual.
I actually really like the way it looks. I don't mind an understated design when it has nice proportions, well-placed lines, and overall clean, classy, and mature. This ticks all of those boxes for me. It's not my top favorite, but I'm definitely a fan of Audi's design language. I appreciate that it's distinctly Audi and doesn't really look like anything else. So many are just doing the same shit these days. I don't see why people think it looks "boring", but it is easy on the eyes.
I just did 2,000+ miles in a rented A5 Sportback 50 Premium TDI in Europe. I didn't know what an A5 was beforehand. It's an awesome hatchback that doesn't look like a hatchback. Also, the turbo diesel has great torque.
I own a 2019 SLine A5 Sportback with a stage 1 APR engine Tune which adds a little HP but more importantly more Torque which gives it a nice boost of pep off the line. Unfortunately, APR doesn't offer a stage II or III, but as this reviewer said perfectly, this car is an excellent mix of street performance and comfort....nice job on the review!
I have a b9 s4 and I’ve got to clarify something. Looking at the way he break torqued it, I sincerely don’t think got the max out of it. Typically you leave it in auto because that’s what gets the most out of the trans, then you have to turn off the drive assists all the way (press and hold the button for a few seconds- until ESC is off 100% and the screen displays that info). Then break torque to get to 3250-3500rpm until you get to 50% boost and then release break. Then that thing takes off and gets to 60 in 4.0-4.5s depending on the tires / air temp and your altitude. I get 4.0 most of the time - I live at sea level.
I love the B roll footage of geese. Ties it all together. At the beginning the goose family looked like they were swimming away saying, "Take care of our car while we're away!"
my 370z can made 350hp without the turbo.... the only reason they get lest power is they used part that focus on economy... don't save that much fuel so I don't know why the hell they do that... but again... it is a money pit.... it only overbuild but design to fail.... to made money at the end...
Cars like this S5 Sportback underwhelm when they’re “all-new” and expectations are high. But as time goes by, they age gracefully. Restrained styling and no nonsense performance suddenly look classic compared to the new abominations coming out today.
@ No, ended up going with a GLE. I already had a Mercedes on lease and they let me simply change over the lease without any penalties, just paying the monthly difference. Couldn't beat that.
I’ve got a 2018 audi and I love everything about my car. I’m so glad I got the MMI with the touch wheel instead of audis new touchscreen system. Also Quattro is the best, it makes the car feel fast and fun.
In Australia German cars last for 200 Kay's no problems and are sought after secondhand, maybe we drive and service them differently here don't know, but like all cars you occasionally get a bad one, which taints the entire brand, fantastic review and camera work
Wow...these photo montages are constantly refined with each new review they start to border on the edge of absolute fine art. Keep up the great work guys!
Great video, as usual! It's worth mentioning that this model version is no longer available for order, it was replaced last week by the face lifted version with a touch screen and no physical controls for the MMI. The HVAC is the same though. The US will still get the same engine as this, but Europe will get a 347 hp 3.0 TDI engine instead.
@rockn roll If you think a modern passenger car diesel is about hauling your really have zero experience of modern euro-diesels. And by modern, I mean anything post-2000.
@rockn roll Hey, don't make that argument to me, I'd prefer a gasoline engine. I was just answering the question why they put a diesel in it. Go make that argument to Audi, or better still, the EU : )
Not exactly relevant but as an owner of a BMW and Audi, I can say hands down Audi ownership is way nicer than BMWs. I have worked on both cars in my garage and as an mechanical engineer you can really tell which company does more cost-cutting exercise. Hint: it is the BMWs. The discussion forums all agree that BMWs are known for oil leaks and other leaks regardless which generation of BMWs as well as worn out bushings. Comparing the two cars, you can quickly realized the size of the bushing, and heavily wear components are so much larger and heavier on the Audi than it is on the BMWs. In the end, BMWs are nice looking cars, great fun to drive when it is working but an endless money pit in terms of maintenance. Audi is easier to drive, equally precise in steering (at normal road driving conditions), far more durable and way better value for money.
Savage you never cease to impress me. Your intro shots are amazing. Rivaling top gear imo. Which is incredible your operation can even come close to let alone exceed imo a program with the resources top gear has. Not to mention you don’t use all those annoying quick cut shots to make the cars seem faster than they really are. As always your info on the car is top notch. I would never consider this owning this car but still enjoyed the review. That’s the mark of a quality car reviewer there.
I just bought one of these (S4, to be exact). While it is undeniably a nice car and great for road trips, I really miss my 2016 S3 (it had what I think is called a double clutch automatic transmission as opposed to the transmission in this car). The S3 just felt more "fun".
This is so beautiful. I am looking forward to the new s7 review. I’m in the market for it and your in-depth facts based analysis will be a gold mine I know that. Keep doing your thing, we’ll be here one day the world becomes truth and fact loving enough for us to get over a million people subscribed here. Cheers
Perhaps a small detail, but I appreciate the extra goose footage you included in the intro! Adds a little extra touch of "Premium" to your already incredible videos.
For a daily driver I’d prefer the M340i or M440i xDrive - better engine, better tech, better MPG, and better acceleration numbers. Also 3 years of complementary maintenance.. no reason to get the M3/M4/RS5 unless you track it. M340i xDrive or X3 M40i as a daily driver with a 718 GTS as a secondary car
TBQH this car is 90% of an RS and it's extremely hard to justify another USD 15,000 for the RS when you compare the features; it's mostly just styling differences. The engines are related and, while the RS5 obviously has more potential, the S5 can still be tuned to within inches from the stock RS5...and you'll have plenty of remaining cash to doll it up or spend on more important things. Drive the S5 until the warranty expires, then tune. Done. Heck, when the APR tune drops you won't even need to wait until the warranty expires because APR will take over the warranty with their Plus program.
I really think this might be my next car (have a GTI rn) because it's classy on the street but still pulls when needed. And for a used version, it comes at a fair price. But I agree that the styling is too toned down for a S class. This is what the A5 should look like, the S5 needs more; it's like they wanted it to be a sleeper car - but the RS5 is already sorta that. Only reason i'd get this over a fake m4 or the CLA equivalent is because of what you said in the A5 review, both of those feel dated where Audi feels like they're heading to the future of design and have great consistency between the look, feel, and experience.
Great review. I have this car and love it for how rounded it is and how sweetly it manages compromises. I drive it hard and it never complains or fails to thrill.
This review gives the info a review is meant to give, very complete, as objective as possible and with attention to what a car actually is. Still, on some parts it's always an opinion, don't forget. I'm an audi fan for over 20 years, I love this brand and have just ordered the A5 sportback. There are things that I wish they didn't do like fake exhausts or air vents but I forgive them, cause, the technology, the eye for detail and beauty... Yep, my audi
I'm not quite sure which I prefer, but the S5 and M440i are the perfect regular cars. BMW is a little sportier, Audi is a little more comfortable, but those are marginal differences.
I have a 430i and I love it. Wish I had 2 more cylinders but I wanted a BMW in Estoril Blue and it's rare. I found one and pulled the trigger. Might trade it in for an S5 when prices come down. Also looking at the C43.
I can't imagine how badly the underhood temps of a hot V is going to get to all the little vacuum lines, underhood plastics, and wiring over the years. It would be a nightmare chasing all this down in the years to come.
And also the carbon build up on the intake valves due to direction injection. And add all the electronics and typical over-engineered complex German crap and you've got a money pit waiting. This is a lease only car for sure.
rockn roll carbon build up is definitely an issue. Their are plenty of channels that discuss this in detail including savage geese. Are you gonna tell me oil dilution is not a big problem with the turbo Honda engines too?
I am talking long term. I cant imagine how brittle everything under that hood is going to be in 5 years. How about 10? These cars are going to need serious restorative work due to heat damage.
@@JAM_2024 Coming from a BMW N54 engine, I wanted to be prepared so I looked up the carbon build up cleaning procedure on this "hot v" 3.0 V6 and was shocked to see very little info on it. From the one video I've seen where they cleaned the carbon, the engine was out of the vehicle. With the engine in the vehicle, the axles and front subframe will have to be dropped in order to gain clearance to clean the valves! On the N54 carbon cleaning was $300-$400 with a forum member, and around $500-600 at a shop on a RWD car. AWD +$$ I'm imagining this Audi engine is going to require a substantial amount more. I forgot to mention the ZF transmission fluid filter/pan on the Audi is not easily accessible, it needs some of the front suspension/possibly the subframe dropped to pull the pan out. ouch!
After I finished face palming about hot dog sponsorship for about 15 seconds, 10:03 is some of the meanest snake eyes I've seen on a car! I gotta say I think it's a good looking car. The front angle is definitely best though. I'd also want it in a more exciting color. Good all arounder.
Mark, I've been putting my turbo between the hot V set up since 1983!! :) you guys are the best. I think you're spot on with this review. I have test driven both the S5 and RS5 recently. While I really appreciate the interior and exterior design which is subjective, the performance of the S5 was impressive albeit less "hardcore" as you put it) for what segment it competes with (BMW M340, Mercedes C45).

This is my “maybe someday” dream car. I really like Audi’s subdued styling and I love hatchbacks. I have an older A3 sportback from when they still sold them in the US, and it’s been a great car. Great review as usual.
As an owner of this car, I couldn't have said it better. Great review. This car is so good at being an Audi.
Ah yes! Magic arrows can finally show me what the f I’m looking at under the car.
i really like that this review goes a bit technical and doesn't talk only about common visible things! great video montage also!
What keeps me coming back is the production quality as a whole with a slight hint of fuck aroundery on the commentary at times. Great video!
Very professional 👌👍 video, no need for the foul language or obnoxious inuendos. One of my favorite reviews so far. Thank you.
Just bought the same color S5 however the coupe version... one of the best decisions ever :)
I love the B roll footage of geese. Ties it all together. At the beginning the goose family looked like they were swimming away saying, "Take care of our car while we're away!"
Cookin’ Wieners on the Hot V! Just how I like it 😉
Thanks for the review - just bought a new S4
lol you take the thought right out my head.
Shoulda called Dave Ramsey first 😂
my 370z can made 350hp without the turbo.... the only reason they get lest power is they used part that focus on economy... don't save that much fuel so I don't know why the hell they do that... but again... it is a money pit.... it only overbuild but design to fail.... to made money at the end...
campkira good point
golden comment XD
I am picturing a grey gaggle of S5's flying south for the winter now.
the s and rs5 is one of the most beautiful cars right now
Man your video production quality is miles ahead of any car reviewers, it's really a pleasant experience to watch your channel.
Intro video of the car can easily be an ad for the car 👍 great cinematic quality
Indranil Ghosh that’s exactly what I was thinking. Looks better than the official stuff from Audi.
Cars like this S5 Sportback underwhelm when they’re “all-new” and expectations are high. But as time goes by, they age gracefully. Restrained styling and no nonsense performance suddenly look classic compared to the new abominations coming out today.
So f’ing gorgeous. Definitely my next car since I can’t get any decent station wagons in the US
Audi also makes a station wagon - an A4 Wagon. A5 Sportback probably less "heavy", though.
So did you ever get it?
@ No, ended up going with a GLE. I already had a Mercedes on lease and they let me simply change over the lease without any penalties, just paying the monthly difference. Couldn't beat that.
Volvo xc70 with T6 engine? Come on man....
RS6 Avant is a brilliant wagon
The dude with no sleeves, giving us the tricep flex needs to take it easy. I was super intimidated.
Honestly a great car, this is what you buy if you want something sporty but much more reliable then a Mercedes or BMW
More reliable lol
Kevin Logan Audi after 2012 model year reliable improve a lot as long keep up with it
All German cars are pretty reliable nowadays
@@kevinlogan2306 I own a 2015 Audi and haven't had any issues. Still feels very solid too.
Theres less noted issues with Audi's after 2012 then with bmw, remember timing chain guides popping like tires on a bad road.
This is the best S5 review. I really like the technical stuff
I’ve got a 2018 audi and I love everything about my car. I’m so glad I got the MMI with the touch wheel instead of audis new touchscreen system.
Also Quattro is the best, it makes the car feel fast and fun.
In Australia German cars last for 200 Kay's no problems and are sought after secondhand, maybe we drive and service them differently here don't know, but like all cars you occasionally get a bad one, which taints the entire brand, fantastic review and camera work
I've had mine since March and it's the perfect daily driver, got mine in Quantum gray and everyone thinks it's Nardo which I 💗
Wow...these photo montages are constantly refined with each new review they start to border on the edge of absolute fine art. Keep up the great work guys!
The new camera work is dope. Helps clarify the specifics on component VO.
Its faster
@rockn roll Emission regulations. It releases less CO2 per horsepower because diesel engines are more thermally efficient than gasoline engines.
@rockn roll BS they do. You're thinking pre-emission era diesels.
The "Breaking Away" wife beater gives me confidence that you're a man who knows what he's talking about.
A near-perfect daily driver. I just hope it holds up long-term with that turbo/engine packaging.
That complaint about the phone drives me nuts!! Absolutely correct about that gripe
I greatly appreciate the arrows to certain under body aspects. This show is no longer just entertaining, and informational it is educational!
Best reviewer on UA-cam. Amazing.
Love the looks and "all roundness" of this car.
The perfect daily... and if you need more race car go for the RS.
I really think you're wrong about the looks. With some different alloys and de-chroming the trim it looks really slick.
Black optic package is required for this car.
Great review. I have this car and love it for how rounded it is and how sweetly it manages compromises. I drive it hard and it never complains or fails to thrill.
Comments like at 9:31 are the reason I watch Savage Geese. The filming is on point too.
8:55 we probably should know that he is talking about the bmw 4.4L V8 from 2010-2017 era.
I saw this car in real life outside parked. Love the look. They did a nice job for the 5 model.
I'm not quite sure which I prefer, but the S5 and M440i are the perfect regular cars. BMW is a little sportier, Audi is a little more comfortable, but those are marginal differences.
Would love to know where you learned how a M440i drives since we haven’t even seen the final design yet. 🤷🏼♂️
I have a 430i and I love it. Wish I had 2 more cylinders but I wanted a BMW in Estoril Blue and it's rare. I found one and pulled the trigger. Might trade it in for an S5 when prices come down. Also looking at the C43.
Man , this is the most complete car reviewing channel ever.
Respect from India
Audi styling is bad ass. You can see it coming miles away
I forgot to mention the ZF transmission fluid filter/pan on the Audi is not easily accessible, it needs some of the front suspension/possibly the subframe dropped to pull the pan out. ouch!
Dude mad shots - you even make an Audi with the most boiring color EVER - grey- look insanely good :)
Whatever UA-cam is paying you, it's not enough. Your quality is superb.
In reply to a comment I made Savage said he makes like $30 per video!
I like the way you rated the performance here, ⁷/10ths. Gives a great 3rd person feel as to what the car can really do.
People who think it looks sterile don't understand the beauty of an understated German sports sedan.
its not a sedan)
THANK YOU! For putting the arrow pointers back into the suspension descriptions. It really makes it easier to learn about things!
Best reviews on the tube. Hands down
If I have the money I’ll buy it, I found it very good looking and being a RWD biased gives the real drivers car vibe
I've always been told to stay away from a hot-v

Sterile looking? It’s one of the most beautiful looking sedans going around. Don’t agree what you on your comments in this regard but otherwise great review dude 👍🏻
I love the subtle jokes that you put into the videos. Great video and great review.
Hats off mr savagegeese this is the most indepth technical review for a new car , on youtube you asses and measure all the car parameters instead of reading the spec sheet and commentating on the cars drive like most generic car reviewers , i guess you have an iq of above 130!, you got my sub and respect , cheersss!!!
the best looking audi
Where you ever a car salesman? You are very talented at showing a vehicle.
I just want to say sometimes you don’t know what’s important in a car until you don’t have it anymore and are driving something else.
Wow the shots into the suspension assembly were sweet. Nicely done.
Most people don't care about learning how the car works because they get a new car every 5 years.
Does it really take 5 years+ to learn a new car? It takes 1 week tops...
