Here’s my N=1 experience. I owned a B8 S4 that suffered water pump failure, required extra oil between changes, and began to experience DSG failure. Before the tranny crapped out, I traded it in for a 2018 B9. That car has gone 62,000 miles without a single mechanical issue. Also, it is not burning off oil between changes but I still carry an extra quart in the car baes on my B8 experience. Amazingly for an Audi, this has been the most reliable new car I have owned.

Hi everyone, I've had my 2017 B9 S4 for over 2 years now, got the car around 40k, now it's shy of 60k, I had serviced it every 6 months/8k miles max for oil and filter (with the dealer to keep the full history) and the rest as per the normal routine or DIY for filters and small repairs, I did not experience any of the issues mentioned on the video here, rockers are fine no ticking noise yet, WaterP coils, no oil or coolant leaks no turbo noise, etc, but I have replaced 2 lower suspension mounts for £40 in total parts and labour, a heated mirror (normal stuff) and besides brakes, tires, and consumables which I also repalaced all of them, the biggest problem that I had but it was a cheap fix for me (I think is a common issue on all post-2016 Audi's not only the S4's) I did get a random message one day about the braking system and the ABS not functioning as intended on a white text no error light or codes but the brakes felt wierd, I parked the vehicle imediatelly and went to do my reasearch, found that loads of people had the same issue with the brake boost pressure sensor (got 3 revisions now especially bad on the first revision pre 2018 cars, like mine), which I replaced myself fixing the issue completely for about £90 for the part alone and about 15 minutes of my time (about 1 year in my ownership with no further issues with that system), I do personally expect the rest of the issues to pop eventually as nothing last forever but so far so good, I did not experience high oil consumption I only used 1 l of oil since I bought the car 2.5 years ago, I noticed that I used 200-300 ml alone on a trip in Germany (4k miles round trip) but that trip was in the summer and also at constant high speeds (over 120 miles on average), I usually give the vehicle a good run per week, and go traveling in Europe in the mountains, the car is driven as it is supposed to be driven with no excuses, on my stock car the top speed on the german autobahn was 162mph (262 kph) and it could have gone quicker still as it was still pulling at that speed :)

I had a 2019 S4, from new until 39,000km, no problems at all.
I did drive spiritedly from time to time, this vehicle is a Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing. It is very planted and sits well in the road.
I did a driving Holiday (in Queensland Australia) 5,500km in 10 days, winding hilly (fun) stuff to Long Highway Stretches, i did not get caught behind any Grey Nomads (some times they were 7 to 8 in a row) thank God people still flash you for Police. On the whole trip 7.3 litres per 100 kilometres, and on the highway (still passing Grey Nomads) 6.7 litres per 100 kilometres.
I did have to do an Oil Top Up 1 litre added. I drive in Comfort and simply use the shifter to go into Sport to Pass if extra power was needed. All systems go and thoroughly enjoyed the “Planted Feel” and trip. Brakes were fine, however I did the research on new Rotors and Ceramic Pads, very similar cost to OEM how much better wear so cheaper if you held the vehicle for a long period of time.
I now live O/S, would buy another new one except they want to sell me a Diesel, no thanks.
Daytona Grey, Black Optics Pack, Carbon Pack, and basically Fully Optioned. I did change the badges to black and added larger Paddle Shifters, with very minimal changes it looked smick.

My dad said he’d go 50/50 on a car with me no matter what. He bought an a4 but during the test week deal he made he found out it was a lemon, decided to get an s4 prestige. Ever since he said that, and bought that car. I’ve been saving up. I’m probably 2 months away from my own s4. I told him how much I saved he couldn’t believe it. I love this car so far. Went out one night and stole my dads car. Gotta have it.

I had a 2018 bought new that I put 25k on and had zero problems. currently have a 2020 that Ive put 42k on over the past 3 years. had the bluetooth module crap out, replaced under warranty. It has developed a little bit of vibration at lower speeds at full lock i.e. parking. Plugged the exhaust valves because they were rattling. HPFP is loud but you get used to it. But other than that, it's a fantastic car. No faults or other failures. it will ingest debris into the airbox and block up the prefilter, so I clean that out every car wash.

Guys I know times have changed since covid/parts shortage but now things here in the UK are easing up, money here is a bit different to that in the USA but my current car 2011 A3 black edition 2.0 tdi now on 2011 got it in 2015 on 35k mileage for 13000 pounds, so Now im looking at an S4 wouldn't say I am a real petrol head or maybe don't have the ability to appeciate like you guys the speed and torque and looks and refinement of the S4
I've got a desposit down for a S4 2018 with 40k mileage for a whopping 25k that's a lot for me but part of me begrudges the fact I am giving over a lot of money for a 6 year old car which means after just 3/4 years it will be coming up to 10 years old
yes they hold their value here to some extent, but prices have dropped 10 percent in the last 4 months. What do you think maybe just wait it out another month or 2 or get something more normal A4 Sline maybe?

@andrewnoble1490 surprisingly well for a stock car. I only have the megane to compare it to and it's night and day in the corners, could really feel the weight in the audi compared. I was at about 60% through the bends but 100 on the straights and it was a decent 9 min odd lap in heavy traffic. I won't be doing any more track time in this as it's not what it's meant for unless you throw some serious 💷 in to it

Have a 2010 B8 S4 in the U.S. Here is a list of the issues i have had beyond normal wear and tear (brakes/tires)
1: Recall on the water pump and thermostat were covered under warranty
2: Left rear shock failed - got a suspension failure error in the dash at 27K miles - Fixed under warranty
3: Mechatronics failure at 25K miles. Fixed under warranty
4: Rear center brake light failure
5: Front upper control arms replaced both sides - bushings worn and cracked.. at 80K miles
6: The thermostat failed at 100K miles. This resulted in replacing the thermostat, water pump and performing the carbon clean out on the valves since the the top of the engine needed to be opened up. That was a $4K bill.. ouch...
All in all, the reliability of the car is very good. I knew that around 100K miles, some big-cost repairs may start to show up. I also had a smaller supercharger pulley installed at 40K miles and really really love what it turned the car into. I do not drive my car hard and keep it in good shape with 5k oil changes. Think I like it more than the 98' M3 i owned, though I miss the manual transmission in the audi.
