Tips on using the Dead Ringer more effectively

I said a long time ago that I was going to make a video about the dead ringer. Well now it's finally finished. A big thank you to ok_rero and I like bread for helping me get some of the footage for this video.

Sometimes my dead ringer will be out, but I still die. Why??

The dead ringer was nerfed a long time ago to no longer guarantee your survival. You used to be able to survive backstabs or fall damage at one hp.

The dead ringer gives you a pretty big damage reduction on the first hit, but it's just that, a damage REDUCTION, if you're low enough you will die

You actually care for what the deadringer is supposed to be, it’s a deception tool used to fake your death, the problem is the deadringer as it is now, or really how it’s always been, does not properly fulfill that purpose while heavily discouraging from it’s purpose, in favor of it’s frankly more effective hyper aggressive use.
What you didn’t talk about is why players do these common “mistakes”, it’s because they don’t need to care about how they would affect your stealth, because decloaking as soon as possible is the best way to use it. The speed boost last even after decloaking allowing you to attack with the benefits of the watches activation, which essentially means you have a scout with an instant kill knife and a longer ranged gun, on top of that, decloaking as soon as possible is also heavily encouraged since it saves on recharge time… if you really do try to use the deadringer for it’s intended purpose, that is to fake your death and relocate to a safer position to start over, that more than likely means you’re using most of your meter, and that’s almost a 20 second recharge, so now you either have to go in with no backup plan, or be useless in a corner waiting forever…. Or you could just decloak instantly and go for shots or trick stabs…
It’s a damn shame that the deadringer is like this, and it shouldn’t be this way. It is my favorite item in the game, and it sucks for its intended purpose, and is only useful in an antithetical way for spy

And this is why we use the kunai bcuz since it reduces your health it will be more believable since most weapons can 1 shot you like the scattergun(close range) rocket launcher(direct hit) etc

I see Deadringer as a TF2 version of Calamity Ring (from Dark Souls) - sure, you can use it, but why would you nerf yourself?

It's a good item when used right. I've been playing this game for years so of course I'm gonna have some high value items. That's all there is to it.

I just don't get why anyone would use this piece of garbage. You're trading away on demand invisability for impractical,situational get out of jail free card that doesn't even save you half of the time.

Simply put I HATE THE DEAD RINGER IT SUCKS!!!
I always die all because I can’t even ACTIVATE the damn thing. The whole point of your invis is to get behind the enemy and get out. However, the dead ringer can only do ONE of those things.
My point is that unless you find a flank where literally NO ONE will see you, the you have no escape option unless you wait like 20 seconds hiding in a corner
Tl;dr I’m never in a point where the dead ringer is ACTUALLY useful, and when you do get a stab, what then? You have no escape tool anymore so you’re just dead

deadringer is pretty much only good for trickstab builds. You get in fast with the speed boost and land ur first stab with kunai or big earner and just chain as long as you can b4 surfing an explosive out or using deadringer again

You can get 1 dead ringer as an achievement item. To find another, you'll have to find it as an item drop.
