Payday 3 - What You Should Know | Preview Impressions

- Payday 3 expands stealth, adds new movement mechanics, and upgrades its look and feel while sticking to its guns on older gameplay mechanics. We played bank and art gallery heists and here’s what you should know.
Payday 3 is upgrading the ten-year-old series using Unreal Engine 4. That means changes to environments, NPC interactions, and new types of movement like dashing and mantling. But the biggest changes to Payday 3 come from an expanded stealth phase that gives four-player co-op teams a lot more chances to fail. If players are caught in low-security areas they can now be escorted off the property or even arrested and rescued later. Players can now negotiate for more time before enemy waves begin attacking. The game negates the need for dedicated stealth builds with more tools to transition to loud phases of matches. There is a heavy emphasis on skill builds opening up a lot of variety as well as weapon customization.
In our gameplay session with developer Starbreeze Entertainment, we experienced two heists one at a bank and the other at an art gallery. Players go around levels finding key cards, cracking safes, and playing minigames to pick locks and open windows. It will be best to have a communicating group of players to get as far as you can before getting caught because Payday 3 still leans into older gameplay mechanics like the lack of regeneration health and armor as well as the inability to pick up weapons off the ground. Environments have some visual upgrades and light destruction elements.
Payday 3 is only for current-gen consoles Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. This allows for crossplay and all updates and DLC to come out simultaneously on all supported platforms. Payday 3 is set to release on September 21, 2023. - Ігри
It's awesome seeing gameplay and hearing what Payday 3 has to offer, but I was just completely distracted by the fact that it sounded like he never touched Payday 2 in his life
🤣🤣
He does he says you can’t pick up weapons in 3 but you can’t in 2 either
It will probably start off just as serious as Payday 2 started off, but gradually add goofy skins or masks like the game did. Interesting that armor no longer regens, but its not that crazy that health doesn't. It works that way in Payday 2 unless you have certain perks or a perk deck anyways so I don't think anything will be that different in the core mechanics.
most likely will encourage better team play with packing med or armor kits and not being able to be a one man army (without skill unlocks anyways)
No armor regen means heavier armors are even more important than in PD2.
I doubt dodge is a thing now, but that might also depend on whether or not enemies actually aim now or if it's still a dice-roll just based on whether or not they see you.
Dodge would've been better implemented as just allowing you to dodge shots better due to making it harder for enemies to track you while shooting, but the engine probably didn't allow that.
This also means that players will have to choose whether or not to let the heavier player hoard the armor kits, or to let the lighter player survive.
Option 1: Let all light players replenish and run for it.
Option 2: Let the heavy player replenish and draw the gunfire away from the light players. (maybe each plate slows you down only if it's replenished, no info on that yet).
Guess we'll find out if those options are balanced later on.
I love Payday 2, but it’s stealth aspect was easily it’s worst aspect compared to how other franchises handle stealth missions/heists. Seeing them improve on that is really great and gets me more excited.
For me, PD2 stealth is more fun than most other titles which have it.
In most heists, stealth is only an option - it’s not forced on you, but neither are players taught how to do it well through in-game tutorials.
And being bad at stealth doesn’t contribute much to liking it.
As much as I love the chaos of Loud heists quiet heists have this odd sense of satisfaction to them.
I personally loved stealth in payday 2, it was the most fun I've had doing stealth since I was a kid playing old assassin's creed titles.
I feel like their maps were carefully thought out and there was always more than 1 way to do things. They give you options, often with there being shortcut available to you which are either higher risk, or only possible if you if you spec skill points into it
I've been looking for other comparable games to Payday 2. What other games have good stealth heists?
I’m deff gonna hop on this one regularly
I remember watching videos for the first one back in like 2010 thinking it was really cool then with how popular the second got and with the continuous support
I’m deff gonna dive into this one
this is the type of CO-OP you'd wanna play with friends rather running like a chicken in every other battle royale games.
Why cant they ever get someone who actually plays games in the series to do the reviews?
He said he played first 10 or somthing seconds
20 seconds
@@Mr_Tutorial141 said he played PD3, not that they played PD1 or 2
Glass cutter animation was so cool.
I love the payday series
Such a riveting comment you mindless bot.
Makes total sense that a bank heist criminal wouldn’t pick up a gun if available to him makes total sense
i loved pays 2, and i hate everything online these days so it was a real treat, especially if you get a decent team
5:35 NOOOOOOOOOOOO (rip car shop)
Maybe not yet!
UE4 is by now quitte aged & hosts alot of diffrent types of games & genre's
Wich means at least the Devs/story editors now have alot more easily interactable props & activities.
True question is now what they cannot do/add..? :)
In Payday 2, im suprised in how i can work with strangers by using type key n no voice chat. There r people willing to go tactical n no loud out there.
What does he mean by no vrs at 5:23 ?
no virtual reality
Yess🔥
with simon viklund not in the team anymore, i hope the music still blast, and theres no way the devs can keep with the serious tone longer considering how goofy the game is known to be
Looks goood gonna play it through Gamepass day 1. :)
"We couldn't show gameplay" Huge red flag
It's common practice. Also, the b-roll provided is representative of reviewer's experience, or else they would point it out.
@@IAmUnderscore oh i thought showing the new game would be a good representation of said new game.
@@TheUltimateHacker007 They want to control what footage is public of their game before release bro, its not that deep. The build the reviewers and partners played was an older one with less polished UI, according to TheKknowley. Pretty easy to understand why they don't want people thinking that is the final product.
@@IAmUnderscore It is that deep. This is how scams happen
@@TheUltimateHacker007 is every game a "scam" then ? Also this isn't just some first time bs this is the 3rd entry in a franchise.
If you wanna know what payday 3 is like you play payday 2. This is just that but improved.
What I really hope is they have all the guns from the last game in the game at launch and add new guns as paid dlc I don't want to rebuy things that should be in the game
There were literally HUNDREDS in the last game, often with outdated textures and models. Most of them were just stat flips of each other, too. It's a lot of filler.
Not sure how i feel about the OOC-minigames or activities that compeltely take you out of the move-loot-shoot vibe we all love. (and/or hate sometimes lol)
Maybe i'll have to actually play em first but.. always disliked those GTA5 minigames wich leave ur char 100% vulnerable for bad news.. + missing the good action around u. Just my take though.
better than watching a loading circle
@@xcnTrolleR true that for sure
It’s gonna be epic 🔥
I hope it plays differently to how it looks
Sad to see they didn't upgrade to EU5 yet.
Looking at the trailer, it looked like they didn't even touch the engine and just renamed a dlc pack to payday 3. I can't believe people are gonna pay for this tbh
@@TheUltimateHacker007 there's still a more modern engine used, that's already a W. Plus the game looks to have some great changes.
There are plans to upgrade post launch.
@@StiekemeHenk well it's coming out very soon. Can't see what major changes they're gonna be able to jam in before then
@@xcnTrolleR cool! Do you have a source?
Russian badger and the spoon (bullying shows results)
Payday 3 looks similar to Entry point, I hope they add more options related to hacking and stuff
Hm I wonder why
Can't wait to put my hand on PAYDAY 3 ❤🎉😍🤩🔥
do hope the ui gets changed like it isnt bad its just generic looking lacks character unlike the previous games where the ui was unique and stood out from the rest of the games especially the detection meter
yuh I miss the big interaction circle
It is subject to change, many people who got to play it said it already looks different than in the B-roll.
I just hope they allow custom HUDs again, I really wanna be able to revert it back to Payday 2's or even PDTH's HUD (because I'm sure *someone* would make those)
I look forward to seeing the collabs, fingers crossed for baby driver or ghostface
Ghostface as a heister would weird
I'd rather see more original content
Will the game have bots?
Ah that one valve game I never played
87 days left...
PayKnow
I can’t wait for this game… going in silent then things mess up 😂
Console will be 30fps/60fps
60fps performance mode lower resolution and textures.
30fps fidelity higher resolution.
Hows that console players
Yall need to tweet overkill because its not right.
You should know that it’s the exact same game
Good! Because I hate forced stealth! Forcing the player to restart from their last checkpoint if they are spotted does nothing and should NOT be a part of any game! Gameplay is much better and more fun when you have to improvise if you are seen.
Where did you hear anything about check points ?
You can fail stealth
The hiest turns loud.
Theres no hiest that is just only stealth or loud
Its universal.
So public games will be always chaos....
Armor that doesn't regenerate is the worst idea for payday, this isn't cod ffs
They've already confirmed it's going to be packed with micro transactions, sell battle passes and be a games as a service.
No fkn thanks.
After seeing how they billed PD2 on PC last few days I have zero faith in this.
Same, and I put many hours into PD2. Then it got old repetative and I got tired of being asked to pay for lackluster DLC content, tired of bugs, and tired of a stealthy heist game that just turned into a tedious shooter most of the time.
This looks mid, as the kids say.
No they didn't. There never was anything saying there would be a battle pass. There's a season pass but that's not the same thing at all. That's a bundle for all DLC in a year. Microtransactions will be in the form of cosmetics in a store.
This game just looks like payday the heist from what I can see which would be fine but its so jarring to see a game that plays like it came out over a decade ago with modern graphics, also looks more jank than 2 and this game is only several months away
I hope to god the readd the spoon
As a console player, i just want it to play smoothly. Really dont care about a huge graphics overhaul not being there.
Please say the drills are gone, took forever to get into anything and kept breaking. So frustrating
@@nimajneb6650By replacing it with better tool’s that exists. 🤷🏽♂️
@@prezmil4282 its not gonna happen, theres still going to be tons of waiting around and defending. Dont buy it if thats not your thing.
dawg it doesnt matter what replaces a drill, the game is based on defending objectives. You're going to have to wait.
The other reviewers said that in the 2 heists they could play, there were no drills at all
@@ZaMonolith1986 I know it’s not gonna happen, the games pretty much just a reskin. Just acknowledging that there’s other tools that are used for that. But they won’t even give option to remove a mask so I know they aren’t doing all that. And I agree with you, certainly not buying it. 👍🏽
It feels jarring to you to NOT have health regen? What?!
Yeah. It's adorable.
I mean let's be honest.....this looks like Payday 2.5. I loved the first game and the second game in the series but I'm just not feeling this one. Graphics look the same, gameplay looks the same (with some new features like grabbing a hostage, cutting glass etc.....ok) but nothing really compelling. You would think after a DECADE since 2nd one we'd see some major improvements, features, some changes on the gameplay ( I was hoping for more tactical where you have to "cover to cover" instead of just run and gun (though it didn't have to completly change the gameplay something along those lines would of been great).
Thus, I'm really not seeing any point in Payday 3 over Payday 2. Which mind you, Payday 1 to Payday 2 was a vast improvement in gameplay and graphics. 2 to 3......not at all.
I'm willing to try this out when a Beta comes out, but I'm just not being wowed. I need to play it to get my final verdict but this is what I'm thinking right now.
But they literally changed everything?? Unlike 1 to 2 which were almost the same game, and the gameplay was already extremely good and efficient so why change it if it already perfect? And the thing I don't understand is that games like Zelda or Spider-man are praised even tho they are clones of the previous game, but somehow it's bad when Payday keep a few mechanics from a game to another? From what every content creator that got to play the game are saying, it has nothing to do with 2 and they are extremely positive about it, some even say that it could be one of the best coop shooter ever if it stay like that so I don't understand the hate, really
watch better videos on it from people who know what they're talking about (like from kknowley, red archer or marioinatophat) because your claims are entirely wrong
@@xcnTrolleR30fps ain't right
Thats a kick to the face for all the console players
@@jakeking7331 it won't be locked to 30. It's most likely gonna have the classic 30fps quality and 60fps performance modes

When this game hits $20 I'll buy it.
With 600$ DLC.
Free on gamepass
2:58 thats so cap its braindead quite the opposite
this looks just like updated payday 2
Which as someone who still regularly plays Payday 2 is exactly what I want!
@@Jonnyonthespot123why wouldn’t you just want dlc then?
@@plushpc5992Because payday 2 is on an outdated engine and has enough DLC as is?
People say that about every sequel lol
you didn´t even play payday 2, shut up, the fans are getting so hyped with this, especially those who has played 1000 hours or something and who´s actually know all ´bout the game and the mechanics.
Oh dear. I played a LOT of payday 2, and when it got old, VR saved it for a while, but the implementation was janky. I was hoping payday3 would double down and have better VR from day 1. I don't think I'm really interested in payday without VR. Been there, done that.
To be honest, I didn't like this new system.
I don't know who will join me, but I like to play as raging brute with max armor, heavy weapons and perks that will make you practically immortal.
u can still do that in this game just bring armor bags. overkill just doesnt want to make u immortal
so play on the easiest difficulty
i hope team mates can take loot out it was a chore constantly being the only one running in and out taking bags
Unreal 4 seems like a missed opportunity to go for Unreal 5.
they are changing to unreal 5 post launch
@@IAmUnderscoreand you know this how?

Yep, rather dissapointed in this game. Just feel like a Payday 2.5 at best and I LOVED the first and second one, but after a DECADE you expect some innovation, improvements on graphics etc.
@@koleth1 i dunno what payday 2 you are playing but this looks completely different and new
@@xcnTrolleRIt looks a bit different, but not even remotely different enough to reflect an entire decade’s worth of advancements in tech since 2 launched
@@DevoidEntity To be fair I don't think they were working on this at all while 2 was still receiving updates, pretty sure Payday 3 also got put on hold for a while during the whole Starbreeze lawsuit thing. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the game itself has only been cooking for a few years at best.
At least they moved away from that god awful Diesel engine.
No recharging health and armor makes me a little worried and disappointed
????? armor regens, there's just a limit. And health has never regenerated without some sort of outside skill or deployable, in pd:th or pd2
@@IAmUnderscore I can deal with no health regen, but no armor regen is a concern
@@lathanchurch8352 You have armour segments that heal, and you can regain lost segments with a deployable though. I don’t see what the issue is

How?
See your character/cover/masks etc
No VR? Pass.
i mean the fact you can't take off your mask after putting it is just really dumb lol
the second game was already held back by these archaic design decisions that stopped it from getting a wider audience
No it isn't. It forced you to be careful when you put on the mask.
Cringey flop for payday 3.
No pvp? It will die really quick
Payday never had pvp tho...

Not to be a debby downer but it looks very much the same as Payday 2 both visually and mechanically
