I think it would be fantastic to have an episode comparing original 70s/80s pedals with their re-issue counter parts. For example; MXR Phase 90 vs Phase 90 script (original 70s) and so on. MXR distortion + vs MXR distortion re-issue, just to name a few. Cheers, guys!
I've had and used an AD9 for years, confess I love the analogue warmth it has as well as it is simple to get the best out of. Always been a weakness that is does not have the length of delay of a lot of other delay pedals but I've never been left wanting by the AD9 :)
While we're on the topic, do you find the BD-2 waza craft pedal addresses any of the issues that the Keeley mod does? I gather it doesn't specifically, but it is still satisfactory on its own. I have one (a waza) and love it and have no plans to get it modded, but I wonder what I'm missing.
both sounded good (and I'm using quality outboard amp and studio monitors), but I'm a diehard Boss fan. I think for the casual player they have the right combination of price/performance and durability. My next pedal will be the DM2, as I love analog delay.
Great demo guys! Love the sounds! But perhaps the most fun thing is, these 2 delay's cost roughly the same. At around 150 euro in the Netherlands. The Ad-9's are harder to get though, but i'm gonna look for one.
For me these are just the best delays. The first I owned was the Ibanez Delay Champ. Ran it with a dry and wet stereo setup, the repeat on the extension cabinet of the same amp head.
Clear difference to me. The AD9 has much more resonant filtering going on in its repeats. Which may be a good or bad thing, it's just a matter of preference.
I would love to see a comparison among speakers. I know this would be more difficult but you could limit the comparison to say Celestion alnico ( blue or gold) and Celestion ceramics (G12H30, Vintage 30, Greenback). I have found mixing speakers can give a broader sound palette (e.g. Alnico and ceramic) much the way you have demonstrated with combining amps. Please keep up your fantastic work and know you are costing me a hell of a lot of money!
Would love to see a show on analog vs digital effects and their nuances, fortes, and faults -- specific to a pedal/effect like the A/B format maybe. For example: Comparing a digital chorus pedal to an analog one.
One of the best pedals I've ever bought is also the cheapest I've ever bought. The TC Electronic MojoMojo overdrive pedal. If you can get your hands on one, I'd like to see you guys compare it to a more expensive OD. Maybe the Carpe Diem or something similar.
An A/B between an original Guv'nor and an Angry Charlie/Charlie Brown would be awesome. (I know it's in the Guv'nor-a-like video, but I'd like to hear a straight A/B)
Hey guys, lots of videos of delays which have been great to watch. What would be great to see is using them within a genre context with useful settings. I am so confused now that it would be great to do a show on usedful delay settings. I notice you guys never use tap tempo and always play slow riffs when demoing, but whatabout extending that to not just demoing but also how to sue them,,,,,, a classic rock setting, Funk (chic), etc etc . Much appreciated.
DM-2W seemed a little thicker and therefore more pronounced. Ibanez was more subtle but equally good. Depending on the application both could be useful, so I'd have them both as well. ;)
I liked both of them a lot and could have either on my board with no problem. Gotta admit.....that vintage stuff has a certain something. BTW....have you gents compared any of the Leslie pedals? There is quite a few to choose from anymore.
Let's see an A/DA PBF Flanger vs. Ibanez Airplane Flanger comparison. The latter I think was based on the old A/DA Flanger. Also, is it just me or is Dan's Telecaster tuned to standard tuning now?
The DM 2 sounds really clean and maybe a tad bit compressed which might be good or bad.... it sounds better with Distortion and with just a rhythm guitar..... but I like the AD9 way better because it's what I want... is just dirty and nasty tone and it's got a bit more spring to it versus the Boss DM2 ......
I just picked up a used AD9. It is a made in Japan model. I assume they were made in Japan at first and then moved somewhere else. Anyone know when they were made in Japan and when production was moved?
just part-ex alot of my 'crap' stuff and got a bunch of peddles for my bord; ended up with Boss DM-2w, DD-500, strymon time line, EHX Memory man, using them together what a sound fair play =)
+That Pedal Show. Hi Dan and Mick. Can you do a shootout between amps. I've just got a Vox Ac15 and I wanna know how a Fender Bassbreaker 15 compares. AFAIK they have the same tubes; three 12AX7 and 2 EL84.
You need to compare a cranked tube amp (with that lovely natural overdrive) to the best amp-like overdrive pedals. Be good to see if a decent OD pedal can get close to the real sound of a naturally overdriven tube amp.
+Adam Moss Watch next week's video, Adam (Jan 6, Low Volume & Bedroom Tones). It's really not that hard to replicate the general EQ and gain characteristics of various amps using pedals. But it's the feel and volume that is the bigger differentiator. We're working on a video approach that should help explain this a bit more. With amps, so much if it is about volume. Cheers!
Happy Holidays, gents. You guys are the best. This video is great. Though I wish there was a carbon copy in there instead of the ibanez, but that's ok. It isn't pink. I understand.
Have you had any requests to review pedals on apps like JamUp or even the ones in GarageBand? Those apps have familiarized me with some of the more obscure or hard to come by pedals. Can you maybe A/B/C the electric miss in JamUp to the Mooer and the original? Very interested in what you think.
+Carlos Kuhlmann Check out next week's video (Jan 6) on low volume/bedroom tones. There's a very short section in that on virtual pedals. They're a good guide; a reasonable idea of what the real thing will sound like...... but they don't really sound (much less feel) like the 'real' thing. We should do a show on it...
Nice. I think the pedals are really close in the tones presented here. I would go for the least expensive - lol. How about an A to B of one of these pedals against a digital delay like the Flashback? I recognize that the Flashback is more flexible, but I'm interested in the tonal comparison. Final thought, when will pedal companies start a relic line where they purposely abuse, ding and scratch the finish of the pedal so that they can charge us more? Ha! :-)
Thanks again guys. A bit off-topic, but hoping you might be able to help. I would like to split my guitar signal into 2 into 2 channels in my audio interface for recording (1 wet and 1 dry). Guessing this will need the same device as you use for inputing into 2 separate amps? Any advice on what will be needed - and have you covered it in any of your vids (haven't seen anything - but I'm not really sure what I'm looking for though).
Wyvernwood they use Dan's GigRig G2 to handle the switching as well as output to two amps. Check out Dan's Daniel TheGigRig channel for more product info about the G2.
Thanks, I would love a GigRig, but its probably a bit out of my price range to accomplish a split/duplicate signal. Are there any other options? since posting I've been looking at AB/Y switches - not sure if these are what I'm after. There also seems to be a variance in price from about £30 to nearly £200. Not sure what the difference is, and whether it is the answer for me or not.
You'll want a DI box with two outs - the DI dry straight into your interface, and the 'thru' to your amp to be mic'd or however you record your effected tone.
Thanks Alex, ideally for the moment I want to record both wet and dry - split the signal and put them into L/R channel respectively. Hopefully that way If necessary I can go back into the DAW and post process the dry signal if the need arises later on (usually I end up wanting to tone down the effects slightly from the original recording).
Yeah I get that - so you use a DI box to get a totally dry signal. If you need to, you can then re-amp that dry recording with whatever amp/fx you like. It's done all the time in studios (usually when some idiot turns up with a Line 6 amp that they insist on using!).
tony93666 nope, you're just hitting the delay enough to drive it into self oscillation. Unless you're whipping those knobs like a mad man, it'll be totally fine
+Toot Toot thanks - not sure if you're familiar, but if you pull up on youtube the bands Kyuss or Earthless, they do some trippy self-oscillation stuff, like I like to do. The guitar player from Earthless should LITERALLY be on the cover of every guitar magazine in existence, he is THAT good.
I was very happily suprised by my girlfriend christmas morning to find not 1, not 2 but THREE TPS shirts!!! O yeaaa boyyy lol awesome! N the came with stickers!!! Sweet guys thanx!
+Chris Vernon Very different pedals, but an interesting comparison nonetheless! Carpe Diem is very Marshally with a ton of gain and fairly 'flat' EQ. By comparison the KOT is more 'overdrive pedal' with less gain and more mid hump. We LOVE them both.
That Pedal Show thanks for the reply. I remember you doing an 'alternatives to KoT' video a while back, how about an 'alternatives to Carpe Diem' ? It's obviously a huge hitter for Dan to knock the KoT off the board :-)
Any chance of these type of videos coming back ?
Bloody good catch at 4:00, must be a PRS thing.
Hope you chaps had a lovely Christmas!
Omg he doesn't even bat an eye.
+Ryan Simmons little bit body heavy, yep.
Works better stood up on a strap!
+That Pedal Show no denying the skills of that catch! :)
I believe my heart skipped a beat.
always in total control
I've had and used an AD9 for years, confess I love the analogue warmth it has as well as it is simple to get the best out of. Always been a weakness that is does not have the length of delay of a lot of other delay pedals but I've never been left wanting by the AD9 :)
The DM-2 is by far my favorite pedal. Small and simple, no frills, but plenty of personality.
GF GF *no personality
whatever delay you like is certainly better, dude. And in case you hate delays, then they all suck, no doubt.
These new Waza releases are just so great, what a job Biss has done with them
*Boss, obviously
The Biss pedals are counterfeit.
+Whiskers B Hahahaha!
Yep, we've liked every one so far. A lot.
Biss bump
Love the show! Can you guys do a full episode on tremolo pedals? Please and thank you
Stuart Phelps yeah big +1 on this
Yes, an episode on tremolos, including the Keeley Dynatrem, please!
Jep! And of course the Empress Tremolo 2
Seconded!
thirdened
both sounded good (and I'm using quality outboard amp and studio monitors), but I'm a diehard Boss fan. I think for the casual player they have the right combination of price/performance and durability. My next pedal will be the DM2, as I love analog delay.
I really like the dark repeats on the AD9 but to each his own
Really diggin these short videos on Tuesdays! Keep em coming Dan n Mick!
+Matt Mckivigan Cheers Matt!
Great demo guys! Love the sounds! But perhaps the most fun thing is, these 2 delay's cost roughly the same. At around 150 euro in the Netherlands. The Ad-9's are harder to get though, but i'm gonna look for one.
a video less then 10 mins, r u guys okay lol
+AJ We do these short ones every Tuesday now, in addition to the Friday shows. Cheers!
that bad ass :) I love all your videos, I learn so much from y'all and my friends go, how to go do u know all that ...
For me these are just the best delays. The first I owned was the Ibanez Delay Champ. Ran it with a dry and wet stereo setup, the repeat on the extension cabinet of the same amp head.
Phase 90 vs Small Stone
or phase 90 vs whirlwind orange box
Vanil666 is quite correct!
Talk about perfect timing! i was looking at both of these for a while now.
Been looking for a comparison of these two for a long time! Thanks guys!
The AD9 is killer!
Would love to see a show on analog vs digital effects and their nuances, fortes, and faults -- specific to a pedal/effect like the A/B format maybe. For example: Comparing a digital chorus pedal to an analog one.
Two great analog delay pedals here. But the Red Snapper OD is a clear winner :)
Nice catch, Mick at 3:58
The Boss one falls a little flat in my opinion, I prefer the Ibanez... but does it give problems with feedback, as I'ce heard it in other videos also
One of the best pedals I've ever bought is also the cheapest I've ever bought. The TC Electronic MojoMojo overdrive pedal. If you can get your hands on one, I'd like to see you guys compare it to a more expensive OD. Maybe the Carpe Diem or something similar.
I like the A/B videos but please do more on Mick and Dan's personal gear. Would love to learn more about the amps!
+trashcanmagic We will do this for sure. Cheers and thanks for watching!
king of tone. V. Kinsley harlot please, I'm really really digging the harlot from what I've seen on your channel
Your Channel seems to be getting better and better
I even bought a T shirt 😅👍👌
Another fantastic video, you guys are the best!
May we please see the OCD vs the Marshall Guv'ner? With the les paul
An A/B between an original Guv'nor and an Angry Charlie/Charlie Brown would be awesome.
(I know it's in the Guv'nor-a-like video, but I'd like to hear a straight A/B)
SoulIsTheGoal they have one already
I prefer the sound of the Ibanez, but Boss sound really good too
Great demo guy's, Mick's rig is awesome...
Hey guys, lots of videos of delays which have been great to watch. What would be great to see is using them within a genre context with useful settings. DM-2W seemed a little thicker and therefore more pronounced. Ibanez was more subtle but equally good. Depending on the application both could be useful, so I'd have them both as well. ;)
GOOD REVIEW GOOD JOB. I didn't hear the string clicking like I do on EVERY other youtube guitar video
Have you guys tried the Ibanez mini analog delay? I love mine!
the high spike in the ibanez oscillations is great
I liked both of them a lot and could have either on my board with no problem. Gotta admit.....that vintage stuff has a certain something. BTW....have you gents compared any of the Leslie pedals? There is quite a few to choose from anymore.
Should have known you pair would be there to answer a nagging question I had about a specific pedal choice. Cheers chaps!
Just went on the gigrig website and shocked to find out you're based in Swindon, literally a short walk from where my parents live
Any chance of you guys A/B ing the ADmini with the AD9? Really curious as to your thoughts, especially in light of how much you like the TSmini.
Both nice pedals but I like the Boss just a bit more
Dan, do you still own that Mark V from some of your TheGigrig videos?
Let's see an A/DA PBF Flanger vs. Ibanez Airplane Flanger comparison. The latter I think was based on the old A/DA Flanger. Also, is it just me or is Dan's Telecaster tuned to standard tuning now?
In theory the ibanez should be the same as a Maxon AD9 (pro?), right?
The DM 2 sounds really clean and maybe a tad bit compressed which might be good or bad.... it sounds better with Distortion and with just a rhythm guitar..... but I like the AD9 way better because it's what I want... is just dirty and nasty tone and it's got a bit more spring to it versus the Boss DM2 ......
Awesome video as always guys! Just curious, why didn't you guys do vintage DM-2 instead?
+Ray Sebastian just to compare something vintage with something new that you can buy that uses very similar technology.
That Pedal Show alright guys!
Prefer the repeats and the not so distorted (more usable) feedback of AD9. Glad I just bought a vintage one for not so much money 😊
Kalamazoo vs. Morning Glory would be interesting. very close pedals, both great, slightly different flavors.
Ibanez seems warmer?
AD-9 is just the best for a little dirtiness...i use the JAM Pedals Delay Llama which is basically a more reliable version.
That Ibanez sounds boss...
How does the Boss Dm-2w compare to the Analogman ARDX20? (Other than the Amazeo and the two switchable settings built into the Analogman, of course)
I just picked up a used AD9. It is a made in Japan model. I assume they were made in Japan at first and then moved somewhere else. Anyone know when they were made in Japan and when production was moved?
I picked up one a few years ago, for around £60. I'm not sure if there was a reissue of them, were there?
just part-ex alot of my 'crap' stuff and got a bunch of peddles for my bord; ended up with Boss DM-2w, DD-500, strymon time line, EHX Memory man, using them together what a sound fair play =)
Just bagged an Electro Harmonix Lester G and would love to hear some rotary speaker simulator side by side.
+Gary Hughes , yes, rotary show coming up :)
+That Pedal Show.
Hi Dan and Mick.

AD9, 80, the fave pedal of Lee Ranaldo
I like ad9 when repeats fade away
That's called the decay, and I agree.
Vintage MXR phasers v the new Phase 95
timfireblade yeah! do an A/B/C :)
timfireblade yeah would like to see this also..
I gasped as I thought that prs was going down ! nifty save.
god damn that DGT is so nice.
I would like to see more of the Red Snapper,,,,,,,Sounds awesome!
+Brumle72 i LOVE that pedal, such a great sound
+Brumle72 i LOVE that pedal, such a great sound
Happy Holidays, gents. You guys are the best. This video is great. Though I wish there was a carbon copy in there instead of the ibanez, but that's ok. It isn't pink. I understand.
+Whiskers B We can do the Carbon Copy no worries. Expect that in coming weeks. Cheers for now and thanks for watching!
+That Pedal Show ps, happy holidays to you too!
That Pedal Show Any way we could get the Carbon Copy and the bright? All Jeorge Tripps delays? Aqua Puss, Echo Puss, Supa Puss?
Have you had any requests to review pedals on apps like JamUp or even the ones in GarageBand? Those apps have familiarized me with some of the more obscure or hard to come by pedals. Can you maybe A/B/C the electric miss in JamUp to the Mooer and the original? Very interested in what you think.

That Pedal Show thanks for addressing my question! You two and whoever helps behind the scenes (getting the horn and stuff) are doing great work!
I like the Boss a little more. I find it a lot clearer. But that's just my ears and personal preference.
and it is. I love both, but the AD9 a little more because of that, less clear and more vintage style. Just a matter of preference like you've said

Follow-up - A quick Google search shows that a vintage AD9 and a new DM-2w can both be had for $149US. A new AD9 runs around $119US.
Thanks again guys.
A bit off-topic, but hoping you might be able to help. I would like to split my guitar signal into 2 into 2 channels in my audio interface for recording (1 wet and 1 dry). Guessing this will need the same device as you use for inputing into 2 separate amps?

I'd really like to hear some of the other amps in the room, probably sound as good as the Victory and the Lonestar.
+Pedro Henrique We'll use different amps at different times Pedro. But we can only use so many at once! :0)
Maybe you need to create a box that allows one guitar to go to 4 amplifiers... 4 different gain and EQ characters, talk about lush. :)
Ehx green Russian big muff vs standard NYC big muff!
Guys are you familiar with the Way Huge pedals?? it would be cool to see one of those in your videos. I have the Aqua Puss and I love it!
+Luis Colindres Indeed, although we don't own any. We should get some...
guys can you make a review of korg ax3000g , because there arent any demo of it in whole youtube. i would like to see one.
morning glory vs blues driver waza
Hard pressed to hear the difference. Boss seems clearer
Ibanez SD9 vs. Vertex Dynamic Distortion
DM-2w seems to be a better choice for clean tones, but man, Ibanez nails that overdriven lead tones.
I often like to play with delay controls for those trippy oscillation effects - my question is, can it damage anything by doing that?
maybe the time / space continuum
LOL
tony93666 nope, you're just hitting the delay enough to drive it into self oscillation.
Can you compare the T. rex moller2 and the king of tone? Thank you for the great videos
+Israel Perez Yes, good shout!
I'd love to see some tapping in this delay shootouts
you should to a TPS of a really good original fuzz face vs a bunch of modern fuzz face clones!
+Curtis Ulin great idea, the only issue is that all the original fuzzes sound so very different
How about the Wampler Faux Tape Echo v2 vs Strymon El Capistan (primary functions only)??
+83draconian great idea
and for a bit of (sorta) vintage flavour chuck in a Digitech X-series.
I was very happily suprised by my girlfriend christmas morning to find not 1, not 2 but THREE TPS shirts!!! O yeaaa boyyy lol awesome! N the came with stickers!!! Sweet guys thanx!
+Mike Nappi Yesssss!!!!!!!
That Pedal Show all u need is fuzz!!!!!!!
The Boss sounds clearer, the Ibanez sounds a little dirtier. Otherwise very similar.
Tone City King of Blues vs Analogman King of Tone/Klon, please!!!!
H9 vs. Strymon Timeline/Bigsky
Timmy vs Morning Glory
I like the ad9 better
KoT vs Carpe Diem. It seems Dan's KoT has been gathering dust since the Carpe Diem landed ...
When a very cheap vs very expensive AB comparison?
That Ibanez is beaten up to sheer perfection
These short vids just make me want to see MORE, can they be 10 mins instead .... pretty please
+Lee Alexander Hahahaha! They can be a little bit longer, sure. :9)
+That Pedal Show I guess if you don't ask you don't get! Cheers guys :)
EHX Soul Food vs. Rockett Archer!
+Matias Ärrälä That's worth doing!
DM-2w is the better one to my ears.
Stan?
Soul driven AH vs tube screamer
Both samey to me.
i think the ibenez colors the tone just a bit but it is not unpleasant.
Ibanez
ibanez sounds warmer, it will not be the case with original dm2
Instantly reminds me of Foo Fighters - Rope
Spudvader or Aurora
