Just shut the background music up. It's so distracting and almost completely masks the actual cats' voices. Similarly the narrator just talks and talks non-stop. He needs to pause every time a cat makes voices so that we could hear them clearly. What is the point of this video at all?
Well, probably for the same reason we put fake laughter in some TV shows. Oh god, I cringe when I hear that laughtrack. It's like, C'MON look at our show, it's funny, hear people laughing over the actors? Or it's like, producers think people don't know when to laugh, and they are like, did you hear that joke, you should laugh, that is funny.

I can't quite make out his accent. Maybe English is his second language? It is especially noticeable in his vowel sounds (in how he pronounces "down" and "sounds", in the beginning after 0:42 for example). He doesn't sound American, he just knows English.

I think the video could have been better if you would have sampled the cat's noise first without background music and then explain what it meant. It was hard to pay attention to what you were saying and then hearing the cat's noise at the same time. More often, I wasn't really able to pay attention and then had to rewind to try to listen to the sound.

And lastly #5: "Just because I walked away while you were petting me doesn't mean you have permission to stop scratching my back, so quit watching TV and get back to work you lazy bum." He's CLEARLY talking while the cat sounds are playing, making it difficult for anyone (thanks for being a dick to the hard of hearing, by they way. Stay classy, hey.) to hear the sounds clearly, in addition to the fact that there is background music that also interferes with the cat sounds. Both the taking and the music hinder the clarity of the calls he is trying to explain, which makes this video a huge waste of time for someone who was trying to learn something. Also, if you listen, you can clearly hear the guy telling people to leave comments about the video, so maybe don't bitch out someone doing what you can CLEARLY HEAR the man asking for!
You lost me when you started talking about purring. Purring is completely different. Not to mention hissing and growling.🤦🏾♀️ This video title was so misleading. Why not name the video types of ways your cat communicates?😒
Terri Boyd no he was right about purring lmao. I work with cats frequently and yes, they do purr when nervous, scared, sick, or injured, as the frequency of the purr can serve as a healing aid (for both cats and humans!) Cats will purr when both happy and upset.
Party Poison. Killjoy I've had cats for 30 plus years. Read my comment. I said the title was misleading. I absolutely know when, why and how cats purr. A purr is not a meow.😳
So disingenuous...AnimalWised have not a clue or care about what cat's meows mean, as they talk over the sound the cat is making, and leave out a ton of stuff. One big huge thumb down. For those that are interested, a cat's meow signals their emotional state that a CAT person understands. But they can lie, my cat will sometimes (when I'm in the kitchen) indicate she is hungry when she is not.
My cat is a very talkative boy. He chitters and chirrups and all that when we're around and talking to him. It's like he's talking back 😅 He's a shelter cat, living with us for almost a full 2 years now. Very playful but also very sweet and chatty.
You should stop talking when the cats meowing as a background music(which is too loud for this type of video) and you talking over examples of meowing makes them impossible to hear it. As it is this video is useless as teaching or even just information tool.
I have trouble hearing the cat noises because the music and the narrator are so loud. If you delete the music and then play the cat sounds a few seconds before the narrator speaks each time, it would be a LOT better.
Please reshoot the video with out the music and not so much talking, cannot really here the sound the cats are making, Stopped watching half way through.
Please reupload this without the music. I actually paused the video just to make sure that the music wasn't coming from some other program I might have accidentally started running somehow. No, it's your video, and judging from other people's comments, it's not my hearing loss, either. I am sorry if you have egg on your face, but I'm more sorry I missed out on what could have been an awesome video.
My cat has a strong maternal instinct, even though she has never had kittens. She will bring us slippers and "yowl" until we come and collect them- this is what mother cats do when they've caught prey to call their kittens for dinner. She will also round us up if we are in different rooms because she likes us to be in the same place. If we are not sitting/lying down, she will follow us and scream until we do so, then she will sit on us and go to sleep. She is definitely the boss of the house 😄
That video would have been nice if we could actually hear the cat noises. The soundtrack or the commentator constantly talking over it kinda ruined it.
I knew a cat that could give rather precise instructions like open the window in the kitchen, open the window in the sitting room (etc), open the hatch to the ceiling (rather important this) or come and see this. The latter would be used when evil beings walked in the garden - or when he felt like watching tv. And a lot of things we not always understood (he often summarised his experiences during the day in a short and complex talk).
My cat just sits on her tower beside the door and when I or others come in she boops them on the head with her paw. I guess that means we are allowed in lol.
Oh my god, these comments are horrendous! If you disliked the video, you have the complete ability to find another video, you do not need to open up this comment section and be rude to the creators. AnimalWised did not have to post any video at all, but instead they took the time to do their best to make this, and, frankly, I found it very helpful. Stop trashing the creators in the comments and instead just use your time to find a video that is up to your important standards.
Our baby has adopted a different meow for each person in the house. Since I can mimic her best, she has a half purr half meow for me. For our roommate, she has a low-frequency MOWWW. For my fiance, a short clipped squeak. For her actual owner (shes our second roommates cat), a soft almost silent meow. you can always tell who's attention she is after.
We just adopt a cat from the shelter this video made me cry a little because he does the thank you and love you meow a lot. I told my hubby he has the sweetest meows and there was something about them now I know why.
Our two cats are sibs, one male one ( timid and somewhat neurotic ) female. She never goes outside, and hates it when her brother does. When she sees him return, she has makes a special meow and comes to one of the two humans to let us know he's back, so we will come and let him in.
We've just rescued three kittens, and you can tell one's already like that. It would always sit on a very timid one (not in a bad way, as if to kind of hide them so they wouldn't be in danger) and when my Dad got him, he started hissing and spitting at him like "Don't you touch them, I'll fight you! Hey, what are you doing to our Mum?!". They're coming back from the sanctuary who've kindly dealt with them (they were poorly and the Mum needed to be spayed) and I hope they feel more positively about us then. One actually ran away during the rescue attempt, which I hide to find cause it was kind of hiding behind some shrubs underneath some fencing. It was really sweet, because it didn't want me to pick it up and I had to wrestle it a bit, but then I put it close against my chest/armpit and gave it a hug and it calmed down and just snuggled into me. It was so, so adorable. I can't wait to get them back.
My grandparents had a cat named Snoopy. She was great for them as she gave them something to do and kept them going. Unfortunately she hated everyone else. Her preferred activity was to sit in the corner and glower at people. Seriously. When my brother was little, he would tell you that cats said "Meow" and Snoopy said "Fff!"
Yeah, I hadn't heard anyone call cat's hissing as 'snorting'. That was my first time, too. When I think of animals that snort, I think of pigs (^_^;) I agree that it's usually called 'hissing', as far as I know.
Yeah, it's called hissing. I'm guessing snort or snorting is some derivation of snout, the projecting nose and mouth of an animal, especially a mammal. snort /snôrt/ verb gerund or present participle: snorting make a sudden sound through one's nose, especially to express indignation or derision. "she snorted with laughter" (of an animal) make a sudden explosive sound through the nose, especially when excited or frightened. INFORMAL inhale (the powdered form of an illegal drug, especially cocaine) through the nose.
I've had several cats which make "Brrrrrppp" sounds where the r is trilled. These sounds are very short in duration and rising in tone. This is a sound of happiness and pleasure. I took it to mean, "So how are we doing today? As for myself, I'm really happy. Just thought I'd mention it." It reminded me of the sounds of pheasants being spooked in a field and flushing into the air.
My two cats, and my dog just went from sleeping quietly on the couch next to me, to panic mode when the kitten noise sounded.. There are two kittens sleeping soundly in the next room.. 😂😂
There is one you did not cover. My cat makes a sound similar to a purr/meow when I say his name. It kinda sounds like he’s asking me,”What?” It’s a very short sound and normally either happens when I say his name or touch him while he’s halfway asleep. It’s not malicious
Ontop of loud music making it really hard to hear the actual noises that the cats made, you also failed to use an actual clip of a cat chirping during your chirping explanation. The white cat at 2:21 was not chirping, but rather meowing. Due to that, I don't find this video very trustworthy. I have two cats that chirp, and while your explanation of a chirp is on point, sometimes it's better to show us rather than explain it, which you've failed to do. I'm hoping that nobody out there was stupid enough to see the cat at 2:21, and then think "Ah, hello to you too, Mittens!" while their cat is frantically trying to get them to do something.
Mine unmistakably says “yeah” “mama” “noo” She’s tried to say other stuff and I’ve heard it She says these kind of meows everyday. Tuxedo cats are the best and most intelligent🖤
Don't think the clip with the trilling or chirping matched at all, especially since it was deliberately described as a close-mouthed, short sound. (I call it a chirrup.) Kind of messy production quality this time, with the overly loud music and messy clip selection. But the cat at 3:37 is beautiful~ Look at those grey eyes! What a study in monochrome. _>
My grandpa's neighbour has a cat that have always come to me whenever i'm visiting my grandpa. He follows me around my grandpa's garden for as long as i'm outside. He loves when i pet him and he meows all the time when he is with me. Just noticed thanks to this video that the meow he does to me is SEXUAL MEOWING. It will be very awkward next time he runs up to me.
I imagine that his cat was think something along the lines of this: "Hey baby, I see you're missing a tail. That's okay, you still look good. Want some tuna to eat while we have a go at making a litter of kittens?"
My BF's cat mostly says "MEOW, MEOW, MEOW" all day long, with an occasional "meo.... uh..." like it just didn't bother completing it. :P I'm convinced it's "soft" in the head. xD
You probably just let there a be a brief second or 2 where we can hear the cat meows without you talking over it or the music being too loud. Also I feel like you didn't really find great examples for all of them. Tbh seems like a video you threw together just cause you needed to upload something.

Your video would have been more effective if #1 shorter narrative #2 the narrator spoke slower and #3 the music was quieter. The focus is CAT sounds
It reminds me my parents cat, once, right after eating, she came back in the living room and said "Laaaa." Not "meow" or anything alike. Lol.
Usually when i go to school my cat joins me on the walk and when i am at a certain distance she just stands there and meows deeply.
Our cat says "Waggle" and "waggle waggle" and before he climbs a pole, bored, wants to play "Rrrrrrrr eow"
My cat is a very talkative boy. He chitters and chirrups and all that when we're around and talking to him. It's like he's talking back 😅 He's a shelter cat, living with us for almost a full 2 years now. Very playful but also very sweet and chatty.
TsukabuNosoratori2 make a video of him!
I love him pls make a video of him meowing!
You can follow him and his life over on my Instagram if you like- @fleaky53 I share pics and occasional videos of him.
Pretty sure my Siamese has told my other cats to use the first amendment, he’s got em all talking.
After all,the squeaky wheel gets the grease!
My cat does the same thing. He meows back when I talk to him.
You should stop talking when the cats meowing as a background music(which is too loud for this type of video) and you talking over examples of meowing makes them impossible to hear it. As it is this video is useless as teaching or even just information tool.
I have trouble hearing the cat noises because the music and the narrator are so loud. If you delete the music and then play the cat sounds a few seconds before the narrator speaks each time, it would be a LOT better.
so my large cat Prince is about 10 years old and he still makes the kitten's "I need you mum" mew and it's the cutest timing ever.
You never stop yakking long enough for us to really hear the different sounds.
Yes. This guy clearly took the short bus to school.
Please reshoot the video with out the music and not so much talking, cannot really here the sound the cats are making, Stopped watching half way through.
Use headphones
Please reupload this without the music. I actually paused the video just to make sure that the music wasn't coming from some other program I might have accidentally started running somehow. No, it's your video, and judging from other people's comments, it's not my hearing loss, either. I am sorry if you have egg on your face, but I'm more sorry I missed out on what could have been an awesome video.
How bout shutting up and turning off the soundtrack so we can actually hear the cats meow.
My stray cat says yumyumYum yum when eating her favorites wet food.
I had a cat named Cody that had a bigger vocabulary than most people! He could even say Mama no shit...lol
That video would have been nice if we could actually hear the cat noises. The soundtrack or the commentator constantly talking over it kinda ruined it.
What Jeff S. Said. Kill the music and let us hear the cat sounds.
Cats cry like babies, growls like a tiger, chirps like birds and hiss like snakes.I love them
I knew a cat that could give rather precise instructions like open the window in the kitchen, open the window in the sitting room (etc), open the hatch to the ceiling (rather important this) or come and see this. The latter would be used when evil beings walked in the garden - or when he felt like watching tv. And a lot of things we not always understood (he often summarised his experiences during the day in a short and complex talk).
One of my cats used to make a "dRRRt" sort of sound without opening his mouth whenever he said hello and expected a pat.
My cat just sits on her tower beside the door and when I or others come in she boops them on the head with her paw. I guess that means we are allowed in lol.
That's funny! Like "hey! Notice me!"
I didn’t hear the murmur and I don’t know what you mean. I wanted to hear the example of it.
My cat growls at me as the whole day of home learning I hold him and won’t let him go until he scratches 😂😏
I can barely hear the cats but your human voice.
Narrator and music are so friggin loud you can't hear the friggin cats
all i hear is the guy talking, i hear no cat sound. should have let the viewers hear the sound first then explain.
My cat tells me how much she hates me and then begs for a second dinner. Meow!
Every time my cat sees me he makes a “mmmmmew” noise and follows me around and cuddles
Why would you talk over the actual sounds of the cats???
Our baby has adopted a different meow for each person in the house. Since I can mimic her best, she has a half purr half meow for me. For our roommate, she has a low-frequency MOWWW. For my fiance, a short clipped squeak. For her actual owner (shes our second roommates cat), a soft almost silent meow. you can always tell who's attention she is after.
I think those are your assigned names in "cat".
So much talking and background music I can't hear the ruddy cats!
One time I heard my car meow but I sounded like "bow lalalee"
We just adopt a cat from the shelter this video made me cry a little because he does the thank you and love you meow a lot. I told my hubby he has the sweetest meows and there was something about them now I know why.
My cat growls when he doesn't want to drop the bird he has caught and killed :p
Oh yes! If your cats catch a toy they really like, they walk around with it in their mouth and growl at anyone that comes near them
:0
I don't let my cats kill stuff. I already feed them so that animal is just dying for nothing.
The Atlantean the issue is my cats naturally hunt so we can't stop them
pigywoo 12 Yeah. If they get out we can't control them! 🐈🐈
Our two cats are sibs, one male one ( timid and somewhat neurotic ) female. She never goes outside, and hates it when her brother does. When she sees him return, she has makes a special meow and comes to one of the two humans to let us know he's back, so we will come and let him in.
C A Grant awww she worries about him
How cute
That's super cute!
Our cat does this sound when it's time for treats: "Mraa?".
It's interesting to listen to the cat at times.
My kitten makes a chirping sound whenever he sees the light reflection of my phone.
I know what my cat wants, *Constant loud meowing in the morning* = GIVE ME TUNA NAO!!!
Here in the US we call it Hissing but snorting sounds less lethal so I like it. .
Bayonne Blasphemer. XD I couldn't agree more! Or a lonnnggg drawn out low toned angry meow.
When I think of animals that snort, I think of pigs (^_^;)
I agree that it's usually called 'hissing', as far as I know.
Yeah, it's called hissing. I'm guessing snort or snorting is some derivation of snout, the projecting nose and mouth of an animal, especially a mammal.
snort
/snôrt/
verb
gerund or present participle: snorting
make a sudden sound through one's nose, especially to express indignation or derision.
"she snorted with laughter"
(of an animal) make a sudden explosive sound through the nose, especially when excited or frightened.
INFORMAL
inhale (the powdered form of an illegal drug, especially cocaine) through the nose.
My cat chirps whenever he's alone and we're in our rooms. I think it's cause he wants attention.
These are not all kinds of meows. These are meows and other vocalizations. And the video that went along with chirping is not chirping.
My cat has a very high pitched voice and she sounds like a rusty door hinge. It is absolutely hilarious.
Sorry but it’s impossible to hear the cats properly because of the backgroundmusic and the speaker
I've had several cats which make "Brrrrrppp" sounds where the r is trilled. These sounds are very short in duration and rising in tone.
This is a sound of happiness and pleasure.
I took it to mean, "So how are we doing today? As for myself, I'm really happy. Just thought I'd mention it."
It reminded me of the sounds of pheasants being spooked in a field and flushing into the air.
I love my cat. Have a nice day.
Oh yeah! I love the pussy!
Our cat meows in its sleep its so cute funny lol, its like me me me meow meow 🤣
My two cats, and my dog just went from sleeping quietly on the couch next to me, to panic mode when the kitten noise sounded.. There are two kittens sleeping soundly in the next room.. 😂😂
My kitty cat Cricket goes 'maaaa' so cute. She has many vocalizations and has conversations with me. So funny.😻
the cats in the video are GORGEOUS!
Diana Diamond You mean scary and crazy? Yep
There is one you did not cover. My cat makes a sound similar to a purr/meow when I say his name. It kinda sounds like he’s asking me,”What?” It’s a very short sound and normally either happens when I say his name or touch him while he’s halfway asleep. It’s not malicious
Kit Kat oh I know exactly what you mean and it's super cute :) yeah I think they're just saying "dude what"
Ontop of loud music making it really hard to hear the actual noises that the cats made, you also failed to use an actual clip of a cat chirping during your chirping explanation.
Mine unmistakably says “yeah” “mama” “noo”
She’s tried to say other stuff and I’ve heard it
She says these kind of meows everyday. Tuxedo cats are the best and most intelligent🖤
What cat name is that? Bad
Don't think the clip with the trilling or chirping matched at all, especially since it was deliberately described as a close-mouthed, short sound. (I call it a chirrup.)
Kind of messy production quality this time, with the overly loud music and messy clip selection.
But the cat at 3:37 is beautiful~ Look at those grey eyes! What a study in monochrome. _>
Yes, several of the clips didn't match the described sounds
My grandpa's neighbour has a cat that have always come to me whenever i'm visiting my grandpa. He follows me around my grandpa's garden for as long as i'm outside.
He loves when i pet him and he meows all the time when he is with me. Just noticed thanks to this video that the meow he does to me is SEXUAL MEOWING.
It will be very awkward next time he runs up to me.
I imagine that his cat was think something along the lines of this:
"Hey baby, I see you're missing a tail. That's okay, you still look good.
Want some tuna to eat while we have a go at making a litter of kittens?"
The loud background music defeats any purpose of this video.
To much backround noise and the commentator talking over the cats' vocalizations.
My BF's cat mostly says "MEOW, MEOW, MEOW" all day long, with an occasional "meo.... uh..." like it just didn't bother completing it. :P I'm convinced it's "soft" in the head. xD
My cat has two common meows:
1. I’M HAUNGY!!! FEED MEEEEEEE!!!
2. SCRATCH MEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
+AnimalWised : _says there are 11 sounds_
ALSO +AnimalWised : _lists 10 sounds_
-_-
Skip the music pls. Cant hear the cats.
You probably just let there a be a brief second or 2 where we can hear the cat meows without you talking over it or the music being too loud. Also I feel like you didn't really find great examples for all of them. Tbh seems like a video you threw together just cause you needed to upload something.
She doesn’t make any sounds when she’s mad at me she just chases me
under the moon
Does she have her ears back? Does she look angry? She might just want cuddles
