I remember when this video came out and thought that Losi is just too much for what it is.
5 months later I happen to see one discounted on Amazon warehouse because of a little box damage. Realizing I've somehow never owned a Losi and currently lacking a 2wd runner I went ahead and pulled the trigger. Its such a blast to drive! There is no denying it's a little sluggish on those straights though. While RC's are super serious business I can't help but admit the Losi is just too cute.
"I'm just going to leave it stock" Went out the window and now I'm waiting for a package with the brushless system and aluminum goodies to get here!
Great video and message. I have a couple wltoys in my fleet, and they are great. I never understand those people out there talking down to others for owning them. Reminds me of growing up with RadioShack cars and a neighbor kid talking crap because he had 'real' rc cars like a Tamiya Midnight Pumpkin. It's worse when grown men who should know better engage is such elitist gatekeeping behavior. They are all toys and I love em.
I know a young guy, in his early 20's, who has some problems... he's really interested in the hobby but can't afford the barrier to entry. I picked up another 144001, went over it's assembly and packed the diffs with grease. He has no idea I'm going to give him a car. I can't wait to see the smile on his face and just as importantly I get someone to drive with so it's a win win!

but once you spend 1k putting a kit together and dialing it in theres nothing quite like it, so precise its like driving a luxury vehicle , not saying other cars are bad but the difference between racing and bashing is a factor too

I definitely would pick the Losi just for the parts availability let alone the option parts, let alone the other reasons I would pick the Losi as well. I ordered from Banggood before and before I finally got my package I completely forgot I even purchased it.
The brushed Losi definitely leaves something to be desired but the brushless version is bonkers.

Great video, as usual! One of my friends bought an rc truck a while back from a "non-flagship" company (I think it's a Legend?), and went into a local hobby shop looking for a replacement wheel nut. The guys at the shop kinda treated him like crap because he didn't have a "mainstream" brand. I've driven his little truck, and I can say it's a lot of fun. Not as fast as my little base model rustler, (heavily modified, though) but it's a 4x4 and can almost climb a tree. Overall, for what he paid, it's a great little truck. As they said in this video, parts are a bit difficult to find, and there's not a lot of third party mod parts for it. But he has fun playing with it and that's what counts. Who cares who's is faster? Just have fun, that's what the hobby is about!

If you turn on the Losi and controller, get it to where you can drive it, lay it upside down or have someone hold it. Hold it full throttle, push and hold the plus button on throttle trim until it goes from rapid beeping to solid beep, it turns your throttle the rest of the way up. You do not have it set to full throttle. I bet you are only getting 50-75% speed out of the Losi.

You can get more speed out of the Losi mini B and mini T if you adjust the trim speed it's in the instruction manual

What is good about the mini t is that you can modify it more easily. add a brushless motor, gear up, bigger tires. Do all that and the other guy will be left in the dust.
Hey Great Video my friend , If you having fun with a friend or by your self with whatever it is Losi , Traxxas , Arrma , Waltoys ... whatever , a $ 1500 or $65 and IT'S fun it's a winner ( as long as it isn't always braking ) But for the most part the " Cheap Chinese stuff has gotten way better as I'm sure the out sourcing Of Big Brand names in parts , an manufacturers have Knocked off these designs as Chinese do in China An at the end of the day probably alot of these brands share the same Manufacturing facilities or at least overlap here and there and that benefits the cheaper segments of the industry..

I see people on here choosing considering quality and budget... I found a great 1/12 scale that meets in the middle thats been a blast- the Rlaarlo AMX-12 has been great. Out of the box its fast, durable, and doesn't destroy your wallet for a 1/12 scale. Im happy with it. Im definitely going to order the mini t 2.0 to add a quick little 1/18 to the repertoire. Heard great things about it. Great video man!

Yes! Exactly, those cheaper non-Walmart RC cars are what got me into the hobby and willing to buy name brand. But I still say if you have fun, it's a good RC. No matter where it's from (even Walmart.)

I have to agree, you get what you pay for. My problem with buying cheap RC's Amazon or Banggood, is that it has been a major contributor to the closure of hobby shops over the last few years. It started with RTR models, but atleast people were still buying from a local shop instead of sending their hard earned dollars straight to a corporation overseas. Ten or twelve years ago, there were atleast three shops (and tracks) within a 30 minute drive. Now I'm two hours or more from any shop.
Yeah, I know what you mean. It’s like that for a lot of shops… not just hobby shops. My LHS does almost as much sales online as it does in their store. That’s just the way of the world now. Also, it’s worth mentioning that EVERY RC is made in China. All of them.
I have a brushless 16889 which is basically the same as the 4x4 in this video. While it is fun off road and fast, I find it very unstable on pavement even with oil filled shocks. It tends to track left or right if the road isn't perfectly level. The Lost-T 2.0 seems to handle much better on road. The fact that all of the internals are right in the center coupled with nice oil shocks mean this thing probably handles like a dream. In the end, I think I'd perfer the better handling. They are both super fun.
The 1602 is almost too fast for its own good at that scale.
Anyone can put a fast motor setup in a chassis and make it fast..As your montage shows (the clear winner by the way) getting around an off-road track requires suspension. The Losi handled the jumps like a well tuned 1/10th scale..
I know this video older. But I own 2 of each type of rc's. With the Losi parts are super easy to find. But I replace broken stuff so much it out priced the car. With the other cars haven't broken anything, even after brushless upgrades.

Great video! If I had to choose between the 2, I would choose the SG. Nothing against The Losi at all though. Wish I had a cool friend to play Rc’s with! 😔 Thats the best part of your video, having some quality time friend while he takes you to the cleaners at the track. I would next time though at least race a big name like losi or traxxas e-review brushless against a brushless Chinese brand like SG, ZD with an equilateral sized motor. Or just do brushed only. You get the pic... right? Any way, most entertaining video I must say!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I think a good comparison for the bang good special would be something like the Traxxas Mini Revo or the Losi Mini 8ight. Just so they’d both be a brushless 4wd vehicle! The tests would be much closer! Great vid either way!!

I bought a losi mini t 2.0 for my 10yr old nephews first hobby rc and it was impressive to me out of the box. The electronics could use improvement but I've had the same issue with a $600 trx4

I think there is adjustable throttle trim on the Losi... There is another UA-cam vlogger named The RC Gamer ( tittled "More Power/More speed hidden") who shows how to adjust the factory throttle trim (to make the Losi faster).
The trim adjusts where the neutral zone is on a servo or throttle trigger. It doesn’t make it faster. I suppose it COULD if the throttle trim was turned back so far that the car was in reverse when your finger was off the trigger.... but that’s not the case here.

a four wheel drive with all metal gears for a lot less money wins... you can pickup some metl shocks for $15... than it would ride way better imo... has enough speed... maybe a radio and battery and esc up grade and its all you need...

One more test to be had... Durability... Would be nice to see who breaks their car first. Speed isn't always indicative of quality, sometimes it's durability. I don't mind making the occasional repair, but I do dislike fixing things after every run. You two should take both of these out to the track every weekend, for the same amount of time until one breaks.
We took the SG1602 to the track and ran 5 packs through it. Nothing broke. I haven’t run to Losi since. I know speed isn’t what makes an RC car good. It was a joke, playing off what people always say in the comments.

Regarding the Montage, I'd say the Mini-T 2.0's montage was better, but it was entirely won on camera work. It would have been tied or even slightly in the SG's favor if the vehicle was more centered and larger in the frame for longer.
That SG is crazy fun. It won me over.
I loved the comparison! Although I would have liked a comparison in terms of long-term duration of electronics... that is, which car lasts longer and the battery and esc cycles last longer, that is, both were executed out of the box, and obviously the sg1602 has better capabilities (since it is 4x4, and has a brushless motor... but will the stock electronics last about 30 races without burning the stock esc, without ruining the batteries or the steering servo?... What car should you buy in the long term? greetings friend😊😊😊

USB block will charge the battery…which I think is great. I have spare battery batteries for my devices…overall you guys had fun, that’s all that matters!

Using the throttle trim button on the controller u can make the Losi faster. There are UA-cam videos how to do this.

Losi Smaller. Use to Cost only $99. You could buy 2 of the SG1601 for Less than the price of the Brushless Losi. You get 4WD not 2, You get Less expensive batteries of same quality ( if not better) compared to the Losi. Losi takes less time to Ship and Parts are Easily Available but will break easier. That's why you buy 2 of the SG1601, one for Parts. Just to name a Few thing.

This video definitely shows the difference between these two cars, and what you're really paying for. If you're looking to just have fun bashing or otherwise playing around, you don't need a top-of-the-line big name car. The SG does a great job being a fun car to play around with. With the Mini-T 2.0, you're not really buying a car that's going to be a blast out of the box. You're buying a prebuilt racing chassis with just enough gear to get it running. Honestly I kinda feel like it would have been better if the Mini-T 2.0 were released as a TLR, as a race roller with a brushless RTR option, rather than as a main-line Losi in Brushed and Brushless RTR configs. With a decent brushless setup and on the right track surface I'm sure the Mini-T 2.0 would outright embarrass the SG 1602. But that's outside the scope of this comparison.
On a separate note, I feel like this was a bit of an apples-to-oranges comparison. Something like an Associated Reflex 14T or maybe a Losi Mini 8ight-T if you can find one would be a far closer comparison. The Losi Mini-T 2.0 is a 1/18th scale 2wd stadium truck, whereas the SG 1602 is a somewhat larger 1/16th scale 4WD truggy.
Bottom line, though, if you're having fun, that's what matters.

@@10thScaleGarage Yep. Kinda pricey, but components are pretty good quality. As you saw, lots of parts availability and a pretty big and supportive owner community. Also, I was able to get EC2 charge leads from my LHS. I've been burned too many times on cheap RCs. Now, I don't mind paying more for something of higher quality and with good parts support.
I love to Losi but the tires that it comes with are garbage. Other than that, a nice cats with great handling on compact dirt

Whoa dude that saying you get what you pay for is wrong. You can get a horizon and you get way more than what you pay for. Just look at the tempered generation 2 from Horizon Hobby play more than what you pay for. Let's talk about my Redcat Danchee $119 four wheel steering four different modes. Well that outdid a Traxxas recently and the Traxxas was like $500 off the shelf. So in the RC business your money can buy more or less just got to have good eyes. But this is a pretty nice RC Channel I think I might stick around have a great day

About a week after filming this video, we took the 144001 out and ran it against the 1602. No cameras, just lap after lap of epicness.
