For those of you who are wondering, yes I am a Travel Agent and I work with anyone in Canada and the United States :)
A few years ago I took Amtrak from Chicago to Seattle. One of the stops was extended so they could repair something and they told us we were allowed to get off the train and walk around if we wanted to, but they strongly recommended we stay on the platform. (its not like there was really anywhere to go, it was a tiny town somewhere in Montana) At the end of his announcement the conductor said “If you decide to leave the platform and the train isn’t here when you get back, remember you left the train, the train did not leave you.”
Years ago I was on the same route. During the short stops I never left the platform - just far enough to escape the huddled smokers.
LOL!!!
😂😂😂
A hidden gem in cruising is us cruisers gathering together on the ship to watch any late runners sprint to the ship 🚢 😂 🏃♀️👋🏽
😂
Not Nice. Lol
Yeah but you wouldn’t have seen her it seems she wasn’t even on the pier when the ship left!
Ah I loved watching for them on my last cruise. There were 3. They made it back before we sailed but they were still late.
The drunken runners are the best!
I can’t believe there are still some people who think the ship will wait for them 😂 She will know better next time!
I was with a woman that was a friend of my parents on a Island Tour. the most stubborn woman I've ever met in my entire life. I told her several times ship does not wait for anyone. My parents told her several X the same thing prior to even getting on board the cruise ship. And I'll be damned if she almost didn't miss the ship. Her attitude was well I have a paid tour and they are responsible for me and the cruise ship can't leave without me because I booked it through the cruise line because I have a sticker they won't leave until that sticker has been counted. I told her she was absolutely nuts and literally pushed her into the tour bus to get back to the ship. She was insisting that she had more time to do more shopping and that another bus would just have to come later and pick her up. I told her there was no other buses and we were lucky even get the bus we were on because that bus was not actually scheduled it was done as a courtesy follow-up but keep in mind most cruise ships don't offer follow up tour buses if you're not on the bus on time it's your fault not the tour group or the cruise line. In addition the financial responsibility to get back home. Would solely rely on you. Even in cases where tour buses have been involved in accidents the ship does not necessarily wait. There have been times where the cruise ship has scheduled those people that were involved in the tour bus accident to also require them to have travel insurance in order for them to get home. People often think because they booked a tour through a cruise ship that they are guaranteed if they don't make it back to the ship that the ship will take care of them that's not always the case. People people need to be aware of this and they should be aware of the ship's time and the island time and not to get the two confused. I always tell everyone to allow yourself at least one hour ahead of the ship schedule to be back on board. That way if anything happens at least you have a little bit of padding time. Even I myself almost missed getting back on board a cruise ship. We were in St Maarten and purchase all day passes for the water taxi and even had a wristband to prove it. However no one told us that it was a holiday on the island and that all tours would stop at 5 p.m.. when we got back to the water taxi station of course there was nobody there nor could we actually get a street Taxi or an Uber I was literally begging people and offering them money to take me and my mom back to the ship and no one would. Luckily I had been to the island before and had a basic understanding of how to get back to the ship. But I knew it meant an extremely long walk. The extreme long walk back was a nightmare no lights Pitch Black we had to walk for literally 2 hours we were totally exhausted by the time we got back to the ship and had to walk through a very bad area. Luckily my mom had her stroller with her and I was able to push her. We were literally the last ones on board. And the ship was leaving right on time. They literally pulled the gangway up from behind us and told us how lucky we were that the ship Waits for No One. Over 30 people missed the cruise for the very same reason not being aware that it was a holiday.
@@jamesconway4821Just curious... Was that cruise the first one that woman was on? After you pushed her into the tour bus, was she angry with you? Have you had any contact after that cruise?
@@SwimminWitDaFishies nope no contact
I'm not so sure she'll learn from the experience. People like that never learn very much, no matter what happens.
(1) Not reading that book. (2) I would have left her miss the bus. Stubborn people need to be taught lessons the hard way. Like telling a kid “Don’t touch a hot stove.”
When they miss the boat or burn their hand? They won’t repeat that stupidity
I was on a ship that waited for 3 hours for a ship sponsored excursion. Now I always pay the extra for the sponsored excursions.
Yup. I was on a ship-sponsored excursion through part of the Panama Canal. We were quite late, about an hour and a half as I recall. Because we purchased the excursion through the ship, the ship was waiting for us when we got back to the dock.
My ship sponsored excursion was 15 minutes leaving the beach. My sister wouldn’t leave the beach. The excursion host on bus 😂politely her to, well, …..
One of my shore tours was via the cruise line and I was horrified that we were not taken back to the ship but left to fend for ourselves on the shuttle buses. It ruined the tour tbh because I didn’t feel confident making my own way back and since I was travelling solo I didn’t have the backup of friends with me. I made it back in plenty of time but it was really stressful
Sometimes the ship cannot wait due to tides or port booking slots. The cruise line will get you to the next port. But...most lines do not allow any other late passengers to reboard at next port. You miss that bparding and cant reboard. We saw somene arrive next day and they learned this the hard way. The crew were adamant they cannot board or retrieve luggage
I was in Key West when a Carnival cruise ship was ready to close the boarding door and leave. I saw one of the crew on the sidewalk near the ship walking frantically back and forth and profusely sweating, looking for 8 passengers who he knew were not on board. He was asking anyone and everyone if they saw a group of people from the Carnival ship slowly making their way back. I was really impressed with the way he and Carnival tried so hard not to leave anyone behind. I overheard most of the stragglers saying that they just thought that when Carnival said "We leave at 1:30 but you need to be on board by 1", that it meant that they could be on board by 1:25. They were politely told that 1PM was the absolute last boarding time. I was impressed at how diplomatic that crew member informed them of their tardiness.
“You need to be onboard by 1:00”
“Don’t worry y’all. 1:25 is okay” said the retarded people
So if she’s late for a flight, does she blame the airline? 😂😂😂
Yes, she would.
Yes they do! Lolol
I always get to the ship at least an hour (if not two) before I’m supposed to be there. I cannot imagine the horror and expense being left behind.
What's wrong with people who can't even watch the time, and be back at the ship when they say. So irresponsible. They deserve all they get if they are late back. Thanks for the update, Don.
Don didn’t contact the woman or properly report on this “incident.” The woman made a joke video from the balcony of her stateroom on a different ship while at port. Subsequent videos hint at it being a joke and many comments have confirmed it. But, even if you just watch the video and look carefully. Her point of view is elevated well above any location at the port in Cozumel, as she pans to the right, she points is on the water, beyond the shore of the beach there. I’t disappointing that all of the Cruise News channels I love are using her viral video to create “news” related content without doing any research to qualify and confirm what happened. Surely enough, she is laughing all the way to the bank thanks to the attention she is receiving-albeit judgments and criticisms that attack her personally for something she didn’t really do.
I’ve been on islands with elevated locations (tall buildings or mountains). That’s where she filmed from… another video says “I drank too much & fell asleep.”
@@electrictroy2010 remind me again where the tall buildings and hills are at the shore in cozumel again…? She pans the camera to the right and must be on the water or coastline. K, thanks
Always fun to heckle the pier runners!!!!
We attempt to return to the ship at least an hour before sailing to avoid any inssues. After 20 cruises, have never been left behind!
Same here
Exactly, because you're not thoughtless like this cruiser. She got what she deserved.
You are looking great Don! Thinking good thoughts for you!!
We're always back onboard at least two hours early. That extra time also let's us enjoy the pools and spas without the crowds.
Unfortunately it seems like all cruise lines are raising prices and eliminating some perks. On NCL, no one forces you to take the “Free (or not) At Sea” package. If you don’t want it, don’t take it. You can always purchase individual drinks as you want.
Good morning, and thanks for reporting…
People will do anything to "influence their brand". As always Don, great video.
Correctly stated, the lady missed the boat. The boat did not leave her since embarkation and departure times are well publicized.
$165/day for alcohol package? That is criminally expensive. What a scam.
I am one of the people that is very cautious about departure times. I have read a few stories from people who have missed their ship, very stressful and expensive. If I take a non ship excursion, I always do it early in the morning in case the bus breaks down. My plan B is to flag down a passerby and give them $100 when they get me back to port.
Always have a plan B.
This is really good information. I’ve only taken 4 cruises so far, so I’m still learning all the tricks. I try to be ultra cognizant when it comes to all-aboard time, but I never thought about a bus breakdown.
@@TVHouseHistorian there are also traffic problems sometimes but I would be very cautious about flagging someone down and offering them money, I would not do this, instead look for local police and they usually can help with pointing you to taxis.
Cruising through time zones change ship time, so pay attention to announcements. Check your cabin phone and ship info screens before going ashore. Also check when the ship leaves port!
My second cruise in the early 90s is my experience of being left behind. In fact I never got on the boat the day of the sail away. This was before booking a hotel a day ahead. I miscalculate the time I needed to get to the airport, thus missing the plane and missing the ship. The travel agent worked it out and booked me a flight that evening to fly to the Bahamas and a hotel where the ship will dock the next morning. I got on then. This was not a good feeling.
Thanks Mate 👍
Lesson learned the hard way for her, but, maybe keep her on time next cruise!
Something to add about drink packages: On my most recent MSC cruise, I was informed by a staff person that if I wanted to buy a non alcoholic drink package on board, everyone in the same cabin had to also buy the same package. Since I'm the only soda drinker (the others were fine with water & lemonade), I decided paying for 3 non alcoholic drink packages (about $60/person for a six night cruise) wasn't worth it.
Pretty sure most if not all cruise lines have all adults in same stateroom buy the same package. Not just MSC.
@@Thecrazyisstrong I sailed on Princess and NCL last year. Neither had the same requirement that others in the same stateroom have to purchase the same drink package. Of course, that may have changed since then. When I cruise in 2023, I'll find out. Am planning cruises on Princess, MSC, NCL and HAL.
@@Thecrazyisstrong Unlike some beverage packages, not every passenger in a cabin has to purchase Bottomless Bubbles if one person does.
We never buy a drinks package they are a rip off. We just drink whatever is supplied free, and get the odd soft drink at the bar. A lot cheaper.
I never do drink packages. (1) Many themed cruises will have 1-2 hours open bar, so you don’t need to pay for drinks. (2) Buying drinks directly is always cheaper for me versus the package cost.
They make numerous announcements before they leave!!
Yes, she knew those comments were true which is why she reposted with her apology. What an awful feeling when you see that ship either pulling away or gone! Hubby and I always make sure we're on a cruise excursion AND back in plenty of time.
well don after years seeing your on you tube. I got to be number 2 on this video. we are princess people with 49 trips, stay healthy and look forward to more video gary
The ship has specific orders as to when it leaves port, it's travel directions directions and the specific times it pulls into port or leaves. International laws
NCL onboard price is $109.00 for premium or $138.00 for premium plus.
You know Don, cruising is getting so expensive. Day after tomorrow, I'm going on my 1st and I think my last 7 day cruise. The prices are just too much. I am going to have to stick to 4 or 5 day cruises. I will still cruise but the prices are prohibitive.
You'd be better off taking a 10 or 14 day cruise once every year or 2 than multiple shorter cruises. It's more cost effective.
Great advise
Have not heard another update on your health. Hope I just missed it and all is well and what they thought they found was nothing
Some people are late when ship time is different than local time. Note that sometimes even ship time changes. This is why I always use a cheap watch that is *NOT* connected to the internet, etc. I sync it with ship time before getting off the ship.
Lol omg that poor lady
I'm so happy that my wife and I don't drink alcohol. We are generally OK with a 12-pack of soda for the week. Of course,, this is something one can only bring on some cruise lines. It almost doubles the cruise price if one buys the drink packages.
Its not about cost. Its about choice. If i drink i can choose a capped price without surprises. If others dont drink that is their choice
Have ship time on your watch and just get back in time you know way ahead of time before you leave the ship, We live to watch the dock 🏃♂️ runners just get back in time it's not hard and always book your excursion through the ship, we have only bought the drink package once we just are not drinkers
Not your I watch, use your wristwatch
I'm in Cozumel right now watching the runners!
I was on norwegian encore last week on an excursion and the discussion what time we had to b back on the ship came up one guy said 300 I said no its 230 he was like it's norwegian they will wait on you. I'm like u can test that theory out but I will not!! 🙄
I think that person just got a costly education on cruising. Do not ever be late if you can. Thanks for sharing!!
Its so entertaining for other passengers to join in the fun. Starts with the announcement for Mr x andMrs y. Then security gatgering their safe contents and handing over on the wharf. Then some get to cheer on the half walk half run cheered on by passengers. The crescendo is the ships horn. Its gold
Thank you Don for keeping your Vlog short and concise. Appreciate it!!
They wait for the Doctor! We were on a trip where the bus broke down and we were ok because we had the Doc with us.
We just came back from a cruise where our excursion was all screwed up because of Mardi Gras parades that closed many streets and cut our excursion in half and made us very delayed past cruise ship sailing time. But it was a cruise line excursion and the ship was waiting and sailed as soon as we were onboard.
A few years ago we were held up from Honfleur to Le Havre by yellow jacket strikers blocking the roundabout near the port but the ship waited for us as we were on an official excursion. In a similar vein, in my first time in Hamburg, student riots stopped the shuttle bus shortly after lunch and anyone in town after that time had to walk back to the port. I hope they all made it. Personally I always make a point of being back in time for tea.
Hi, Don: Great video, keep up the great work.. Here is my take on this situation, she should have been on time and even a little early. Many, many content creators have put videos out addressing the timeframe issue for excursion embarkation times back to the port for return to the ship.. Yes, I agree that she should have been called out, for posting a tick Tok that only gave her side of the story and not the truth. Here is the other side of the coin that people may or may not know about concerning why Cruise Ships leave people in a port of call, if they don't make it back in time. One of the reasons as we all know has to do with the Cruise Ship keeping to their schedule, time is money so to speak. Another reason that the cruise ships can't wait is that they have only booked the port slip, for a short period of time. The port of call has a list of other ships with times for their arrivals, when the ship's time has ended they are required to leave the port slip by the port authority. If the ship doesn't leave the port within a reasonable amount of time, they are fined. Fines for cruise ships can range into the hundreds of thousands of dollars and guess who it affects the most when a cruise ship gets fined for waiting for a passenger who is late, Future cruisers. If the fines are high enough the cost of cruising goes up to the point that many, many people are unable to cruise any longer.
Also, even if the ship wasn’t fined for staying at the port later, or could arrive at the next port without losing time, it’s still would not be a good to wait for someone or some people because who knows how long they will be if it’s just another 10 minutes or if it’s two hours. might be a different scenario if they called and said the bus broke down and they’re on the group tour and it was true of course
Wow $167 a day! I think Royal is too expensive at $78 to $98 a day. Not that I plan on going on NCL until they stop their madness
Del Rio needs to fatten his wallet.
Actions have consequences!
Exactly, we don't buy any drink package. We ended up paying $32.00 at the end of our 7 day cruise. So much better than $160.00 a day!
My wife drinks all day on the cruise from morning til night. Easily has 15-20 drinks per day. We always get the drink package!
You must not drink much...whether it's coffee, alcohol or soda pop!
I usually get maybe 1 alcohol drink per day, these packages encourage over drinking.
@@larrykramer2761 Cirrhosis of the Liver 😢 , not to mention all the calories 😮.
We have never never ever bought a Drink Package.
It would never pay off for us.
I like drinking a beer or a glass of vine every so often, but so far never reached the Package price.
I would be dead of all that alcohol.
It was only a matter of time before MSC raised prices. They have amazing prices, especially for the Ship within a Ship price. I'm enjoying the low prices while they are offered 😀
I wonder if the cruise line raises the price of the drink packages onboard to influence cruisers to choose eg. the free at sea package prior to sailing and guarantee the revenue .🤔
NCL’s drink package is $160 a day! Oh my gosh! We were thinking about treating our son to their Hawaiian cruise and getting him free drinks - but that’s a ‘no’ lol. Even the free at sea gratuities on drinks is kind of high! Yikes!
MSC also has a package that can be booked while booking the cruise.
Hey Don. We will never be left. We get off early. Sight see or tour and return early to enjoy a few hours of a less crowded ship. That ship is way out there. She was very late 🤦♀️.
We found out what it was like to almost miss one on the prima 2 weeks ago we were the last two on the ship. Because it was a Cruise excursion they had to wait for us There was about 30 people on the trip.
Good Afternoon Don
One time cruiser here and a chronic late! I even missed 3 flights in my life (well, 2 times where to go to work at the James Bay Hydro Project, so I guess that subconsciously, I just wanted a day more of vacation). On my cruise, I took care to be back at the ship at least half an hour before the last embarcation time. I even had time to leave stuff in my cabin and go take a capuccino to see the last people get in.
NCL has their drink packages high not because people buy it but because their. Included deals have forced grats! So now you pay %18 on the $160/day rate.
What a scam
The Diamond Princess is currently crossing the Pacific Ocean and stopping tomorrow in Guam and then Saipan before continuing to Japan. It was the only cruise ship I've been on that had Bidet/toilets in mini-suites. I was afraid to touch all the buttons.
Wave to the US Navy 7th fleet as you make your way to Japan.
Wished more ship's would leave people!
We were on a tour, booked via the ship, at Belize. The guide seemed to be taking his time and after awhile, one of the tour-goers asked him if we would get back to the ship on time. After some back and forth, it turned out the guide thought our cruise originated in Galveston, TX. Nope, we're from Miami! Our hour lunch got whittled down to 10 minutes and the shopping he said we would have time for did not come to be. We got on the last tender for our cruise. But we made it!
Even though NCL passengers usually opt in for their free at sea program they still have to pay the gratuities. The effect of raising the package price will result in much increased revenue. You will probably see similar price increases on dining packages and excursions.
NCL Free Drinks isn't so Free they Tax and ect fees when booking is Crazy We Stop going with NCL this Year we had a Free Cruise to the Bahamas no so free at $1,500 for the both of us all the free wifi and drinks ugh nothing free at all
I am with you Don. I only buy drink pkg if great deal. On Valentine princess had a great sale
As long as the cruise ships are packed, the cruise companies can continue to raise prices!!
Her TikTok was “fake news” she was recording from her balcony.
Thank you! Not enough people are commenting this. i still even think Don is aware. 😓
Yep, not wrong to call her out on it. She was late and blaming the ship instead of taking responsibility for herself and punctuality. I hope if she had another port after flying to reach the ship that she was not only on time but before time good she at least give apology later to the TikTok.
I admit we did have to run to catch the last tender to our ship once. Only happened once and will never happen again. Fortunately we just made it minutes before it left.
Being on time is part of adulting. I don't feel sorry for someone who doesn't make it back on time of their own accord...
If I missed a cruise ship the last thing I would do is go on social media and tell the whole world that I had missed a cruise ship. When you are that late the only thing you should be doing is kicking yourself and trying to figure out how to get out of the mess.
One of the favorite past-times of cruisers is to watch the pier runners. I am one of those cruisers and I have met many others that enjoy harassing these pier runners. Although I feel for someone actually missing the ship, people need to take responsibility for themselves.
They enjoy harassing them? I would not want to be on board a ship with sociopaths like that.
@@davidhoward4715 Seriously? It's light hearted fun. Most of the time the pier runners love all the intention. Lighten up.

Selfish is not to be cause you will get left!
The ONLY person the cruise ship cannot leave without is the DOCTOR. There must be a Doctor on board for the ship to set sail.
That question was asked at a Q&A on a Carnival Ship.
She know what will happen if she was late.
Do these people think everyone in the world revolves around their schedule?? Does she think planes wait for people? Answer is: NO
All aboard means just that!!!! hmmm.....I wonder....we were nearly an hour late leaving Costa Rica because one of the tours was late...and even then...they were still paging somebody to go to GS....nope.....your not where you are supposed to be? so long...see you at the next port!
Okay I went and watched her video. I was just in Cozumel on Saturday which is right about the time she made that video. If you look at the vantage point that her video was taken from it very much appears she's on a top deck of another cruise ship. She likely did that for views and it's fake. I know that it appears she's at the Carnival Pier, which is where we were and there was a ship that left before us and very likely might have been the same one as I was standing up on top of our ship looking at that other ship while waiting for ours to depart. You could tell by that statue spear looking thing as she pans to the right how high up she is because that's outside of the far Cruise Pier.
Exactly!! It’s obvious for anyone who’s been on a cruise and stopped at Cozumel. I am disappointed Don and many other Cruise Newsers opted to make an example out this woman and rage farm their audiences without contacting her or fact checking.
Elisha's back!

Love your videos Don, but quick correction… Japan doesn’t have a population of billions, their population is slightly less than 126 million, more than 2.5 times less than the US.
“I’m so special, I can make 2000 people wait for me.”
This is what happens when you practice being late! You she was the captain complaining about the ship not waiting for her.

Don,
I just heard on a RC Blog that for non suites Royal Caribbean is only performing daily room housekeeping, not twice per day. Similar to NCL. Is this true? Thanks
That is correct
I'm one of those weirdos who will set an alarm for an hour before all-aboard. If I'm not already on the pier walking towards the ship at that point, I start planning out how to get to the next port of call or back to my home port. 😬
Should booked an all- inclusive! Your resort is not going anywhere!! 😂🤣
If she got over 3 million views on TikTok, she more than paid for her cruise, plus her flight home. Good, profitable strategy.
My thoughts exactly. Probably a fake video! She just filmed a cruise ship and lied saying they left her behind when she was actually on a different ship.

00:55 Just some advice on your German pronunciation. When you see a German word with ‘ei’ in the spelling, the ‘i’ is pronounced as ‘eye’(& for words with ‘ie’, the ‘e’ is pronounced like the e in ‘me’). So Reisen sounds more like ry-zen than rizzen.

Hey Don , Loving your Vlogs and knowledge , Question have you ever done a Christmas Market Rhine Cruise?? I'm looking '24 ? Any tips ( Yes I'm booking pre and post hotels )
How can the cruise companies keep raising their prices while keep providing low class entertainment and facilities? The customers will start looking for cheaper vacations pretty soon. A "condensed" version of an "off off off off Broadway play" does not excite me in the slightest. You ever seen the plastic lawn furniture they turned into beds? lol. Seriously, they are getting close to their tipping point. Especially now that they make everyone go to their stupid resort islands so they can spend more money with the cruise line. Enough!!
