Such a group should have contacted Princess years in advance to schedule such a long cruise before Princess started opening up reservations to its customers. Shame on Princess for the pathetic “compensation” being offered to the bumped passengers. It’s all about corporate greed and the lack of consideration for their loyal customer base.
Princess cancelled a lot of benefit for Elite members. No free WiFi anymore. No free room service. Ni more upgrade. She said that sounded like fun but she also still has less-than-fond memories of the family's trip from South America to NY many years ago and wasn't sure she'd enjoy being on an ocean-going ship again. I responded by pointing out that if you could read the fine print on the screen fast enough, you'd realize that the wonderful prices being advertised were only the beginning, and there would be many other fees and costs to inflate the price. Her response was that the cruise line would probably do anything they could to increase their profit at customers' expense.... Looks like someone at the home office heard her and figured it was good advice... But yeah, same cruise line.
We once were within a few months of going on a cruise and some Chinese company bought the entire cruise out and they kicked us off even though we had paid for it already. They offered us the cruise a week or two later, but due to 4 people planning the certain week off, we could not rearrange our vacation to a different week. We were so mad. My husband said he would never book something with that cruise line again. After two years, he cooled down and we did that cruise, but some things had changed and didn’t stay as long in one port as the prior trip.
I’m doing a transpacific to Japan 16 days this is hard rare and fights hard to find maybe 12 to 14 per year and some go to Alaska and North Pacific to Japan others cross to Hawaii to Tahiti do yes expense and rare
Celebrity cancelled my Japan cruise in Oct 2023 because it’s triple booked. I booked my independent air and hotel already as I was notified 5 months in advance. Just got a shift and lift in 2024 and minimal compensation on air. Japan cruise price went up significantly as Japan was opening up. They probably cancelled the cheaper prices for the cabin when the “Revenue” team was deciding who to cancel. As least the customer service told me each decision was handled by the “revenue” team, despite we were loyal customers (elite) on celebrity.
Any cruiseline that accepts charters shouldn't let the charters book a ship sooner than a year in advance! To do otherwise and bump the regular cruisers is horrible!
RCI also cancelled my Jan 21/24 on Oasis of the Seas , but I really can’t understand why RCI would piss off say 5000 loyal guests to then charter the ship for that sailing????
I’m willing to bet that several passengers have airfares booked. As for airfare costs, our business class air return from Toronto is $16,000 CAD for our September 30 Celebrity 12 day cruise. Premium Economy is over $5000.

I think Princess just lost their crown.
That obc doesn't even get you dinner at Sabatinis... ugh!
In the UK this kind of thing is called Gazumping even if you have paid the deposit. You can still be out priced. Welcome to life.
Good for you Don on calling them out on this. I totally agree with you.
As the old adage says "Money talks, bull...t walks".😢
Any cruiseline that accepts charters shouldn't let the charters book a ship sooner than a year in advance! To do otherwise and bump the regular cruisers is horrible!
so much for loyalty to your customers, it's out and out corporate greed.
Definitely dropped the ball!!!😮
I love cruising but if they keep doing wrongs like that i'll shift my vacation to something else that's so wrong what they do now
I was booked May 6-May 25 2024 19 day cruise and we were cancelled due to full cruise charter Yokohama-Yokohama.
I agree what a let down by Princess.
Agreed. 50 bucks is an insult
The one time I was booked on Virgin and they chartered the cruise they gave me the option of staying or a 200% credit to move to a different cruise.
RCI also cancelled my Jan 21/24 on Oasis of the Seas , but I really can’t understand why RCI would piss off say 5000 loyal guests to then charter the ship for that sailing????
Money talks nobody walks- happened to us also- South Pacific cruise “ cancelled “ no alternative offered,no “ sorry” just refunded a lot of money!!!😢
I’m willing to bet that several passengers have airfares booked. As for airfare costs, our business class air return from Toronto is $16,000 CAD for our September 30 Celebrity 12 day cruise. Premium Economy is over $5000.
