These rifles are really popular here in the mainland UK. We can't have semi auto centre fire rifles or any calibre pistols ( unless you get a long barred revolver with a 12 inch barrel) so this is a great choice if you want a pistol calibre firearm that hasn't be modified to meet silly laws.

Thanks for another great review Don! I have the Big Boy with brass receiver in .357 and love it! It's a joy to look at, and fun to shoot. The tube mag makes loading *so* much easier with arthritic fingers, and is one reason I chose the Henry.

Robnord - I have brass Henry Big Boys in .357, .44 & .45 Long Colt, which were purchased before the side gate versions came out. The only reason I would want a side gate is to have a color case hardened .45 Long Colt that would look well in my collection, next to my Italian clone of the 1873 Colt Single Action Army.
Brass or steel, the main reason to get a Henry is QUALITY!

Yes it would, except you may need the barrel mount sight rather than the receiver style. The sight radius doesn’t allow frame r you to get low enough on the receiver mounted one

I got the 45 Colt side gate version case hardened about a month ago, since I have quite a few 45 Colt revolvers. My case hardening wasn’t as vivid as yours, and not as nearly as nice as the job done on my Henry Original Iron Frame. I wrote to Henry and asked them about it, they told me they have used the same company to do the case hardening that they always have....but it sure does seem quite different. Looks and feels like a parkerized surface that’s been painted to look like CH. That, and the barrel blue isn’t as nice and shiny and dark like it was on the previous big boy models. I dont know....it functions well, just like all Henry’s do, and the side gate is nice, but the finish is just not what I was expecting. Wondering what others have seen...

I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE but I cannot make up my mind between this one and the brass receiver one! I honestly change my mind every day! In fact, last time at the gun shop I got the Mossberg 940, which was on my list but not before this Henry. Yet, I wanted more time to think about it and I am leaning to the one in this video, something about the patina that makes me madly in love...but then the brass is so vintage and elegant...

However I like my Rossi 16 in lever inn357/38spl. More.It shoots faster .But I have to admit I bought the Henry because of the octagon barrel.Ive also got the Golden Boy 22mag and the 22mag pump Henry both with octagon barrels..I love all of my Henrys

Shooting .38 SPCL in the brass 20 inch version is a joy. It feels lighter than some AR-15s I've fired. And it's pretty quiet with .38s as well. Not enough to be hearing safe, but you can fire it indoors with only single hearing protection no problem.

Enjoyed the video. Ordinarily, I would put the aesthetic quality of Henry above that of most level actions, including Winchester and Marlin, assuming you can get around the lack of a side loading gate, which I personally cant, but to each their own.The wood color and grain tends to be superior, and the bluing as well. The wood and bluing were exceptional here. That being said, I admit being disappointing by the qualify of the color case hardening in the rifle in your video. They are definitely taking shortcuts there, and not using an authentic process. When I saw the cover picture for the video, I was pretty excited as it looked suburb in there, but when I saw the rifle I was disappointing. I don't think the price matches the quality, unless their quality varies. Nice concept, but would prefer the steel or brass version, with octagon barrel of course. Keep up the good content.

    • @briansearles4473
      @briansearles4473 2 роки тому

Henry does not polish their metal properly. I think they use a glass beading process to give a flat/dull finish on their receivers. This is why there is "something" missing in the quality of their color case hardening. Having said that I still want to buy one in 44Mag, but they are hard to find these days.

Although I used to stick up my nose to tubular magazines in favor of side loading gate, in a state that requires rifles to be unloaded in vehicles when hunting, the side gate is annoying to unload.
I love my old Marlin 336 but it is tedious to unload

Henry makes nice rifles. My wife loves her .22. I'm looking at one of their magazine fed Long Rangers in either .308 or .223

How is the receivers performance, and maintenance compared to their brass and silver receivers. I heard at least that the brass are easier and less expensive to maintain. Thanks! I really like this one though, even though it doesn't have that pistol style grip stock.

That's a nice firearm. I have a golden boy and love 💙 it. If I where to get a big boy it would be brass. But anyone of them would be a keeper.

Your stealing my heart with this one I love Henry's lever action rifles. First I went with a golden boy 22LR. I want a 45cowboy to match my 45 uberti I'm thinking this would be a good prepping rifle she can a stay dirty and still function all day if needed. Don Thanks

I recommend a Skinner peep sight. It mounts right in those scope mount holes. I have one on my 44 mag and it makes the rifle faster and more accurate.

If Henry would incorporate side loading ramps to just some of their models they offer it would boost their sales immensely..its the only thing that keeps me from buying a Henry...

Buy guns from the other lever manufacturers then, it does not appear that they need your money.

One thing I never liked about loading gates is you need to cycle all the rounds to unload the rifle. It just never seemed safe to me.

Great rifles assembled in my original home state of NJ. Where a $ 40.00 BB gun can get you a felony charge just for owning one and walking off your property.

I wanted the Silver Big Boy .357, but they don't make it with the checkering. I don't care for the big loop and would like more of a shine on the Case Coloring. Maybe also, a steel plate instead of a rubber pad on the stock for longevity. How do you think the receiver is compared to the Silver and Brass Big Boys? Did it need a break in? How often does it need cleaning? Thanks?

Hi. I'm swedish and I like your videos. I'm curious about whether those Henry Big Boys can cycle longer +P heavier rounds in 44 mag and 45 Colt. Have any idea? 🤔
