Obsidian C, is teaching everybody the importance of writing in acoustic guitar, to solid the sound without electronic effects. this is the prove that this song, even without distortion or the rest of the band, is still sounding amazing.
keep of kalessin has theire very unique and great style,i think why many people don't like em is becouse it's so different from the "normal" metal we hear today. To me it shows theire talent and theire creativity and not having to be like everyone else.
Killer guitarist! It's difficult to find a really skilled guitarist in the black metal genre. Obsidian is probably the best black metal guitarist and also one of the finest guitarists ever. He has incredible skills (even on acoustic guitar!), versatility, power, feeling... Incredible, really incredible!
My musical tastes are always changing, and I've kind of transitioned out of my metal phase in the past year or so, but Keep of Kalessin is still one of my four or five top favorite bands.
This is the song Armada, Although it sounds quite different then the album due to its not acoustic or a 12 string! But its a great song, check it out! =)
Emperor and Keep Of Kalessin. One is more about oniric sounds and atmospheres, one is more about technical musicianship, clean performances and catchy hooks. It's the manifold nature of music, there can be people who enjoy more the first side and people that enjoy more the second side. Personally, I prefer Emperor because of their songwriting, but Keep Of Kalessin is one hell of a band as well. But my absolute favorite BM band is Arcturus, if I have to choose (even if it's not exactly BM...)
@labounti The answer to that is simple, this is not black metal, it is extreme metal. People call it different things (majestic, epic, etc etc)... it takes influences from death, melodic, black and so on.
Please do one album like this! I beg you! It sounds so fantastic! Jeg gleder meg så sinnssykt til det nye albumet! Gratulerer med MGP finale forresten! :P
@thearieter : No, his guitar has 12 strings, look closely... @hisaroybataljonen : This is not "The Dragontower", this is "Armada" (from the album Armada, he even says it before he starts playing) :)
...But of course! It's impossible not to know him if you're interested in metal. Truth be told, I think he's one of the best songwriters ever, I love each of his projects (Emperor above all, of course!) and I also think he's one of those rare skilled black metal guitarists, I respect him and everything, but technically speaking, he simply can't match Obsidian's level. But this doesn't mean that he sucks or I don't love his music, he's simply a less skilled guitarist than Obsidian, that's all.
@Themgoroth616 In an interview they said themselves they don't really consider their music black metal, but rather extreme metal with theatrical influences. Still, their sound has a lot of similarities to the "crossburner"-scene of the early nineties. This is a lot more complex and interesting though. Screw those who says they sold out!
@Obsidian c: Respect! I`ve tried a 12 string guitar myself before (i play the guitar, but keep it to 6 strings hehe) It was almost impossiple. Pressing down the others strings was a nightmare, not to speak of the spaces between them. How you can hit all 12 strings and play like you do here i dont understand. It sounds awesome, the melody and everything. But your riffing on el-guitars..2 down and 1 up..WTF. It`s even more impressive. You must be an alien :) Gratulerer med Grand Prix hehe ;)
Imagine Obsidian working with Karl Sanders on an acoustic album. I dream about that and it's so good, it makes me cry. Arnt Ove Grønbech is fucking bad ass on a guitar!
Can anyone tell me if this is is played in another tone then standard and which one? and if anyone know the name of all the chords he uses please tell them too :)
What is happening to Keep, last time I checked Metal Archives all members left the band. Only Obsidian C. and Wizziac are the 2 remaining members. Btw. What is that scar on his face? How that happened?
@AntiHero1996 Thanks well almost figured all of it now :) kinda sounds the same in my ear ofc not with all the fast insane playing but the chords are about to be there especially at 00:32 - 00:39 but well the first thing he playes the fast picking i can't really figure out so i just do some strumming up and down :) but atm i try to figure out how he holds the plectrum maby my fingers are just malformed x( but can anyone please explain how he holds it cuz when i try to hold it like him i lose it
I see. It's a good point. But Keep Of Kalessin isn't your typical Norwegian black metal band. In certain cases, they have little to do with black metal. I'd really call them a black/thrash metal band with symphonic and progressive tendencies. I don't understand one thing: you're judging this band by seeing this video only? If yes, then listen to some of their songs and you'll see that they can build atmospheres , too, even if rather simple ones. Btw, I agree with you on Mayhem and Emperor.
Probably the only person, who can play metal that extreme on an acoustic and still make it sound great.
Im still waiting for the acoustic version of this album, really a masterpiece
See ya here in the comment section the next 6 years😆

1 month later, and I still can't get enough of this!!
I am extremely glad I found Keep of Kalessin, they have a great sound.
One of the most undervalued guitarist in black metal genre.
keep of kalessin has theire very unique and great style,i think why many people don't like em is becouse it's so different from the "normal" metal we hear today.

sounds like flamenco, flamenco from hell!!

Is it too late to want that whole album as acoustic version?

That sounds amazing!!!!
He is amazing...
@Reuben961 It's the title track from Armada, which means the song's name is Armada.
that was tight!
An evidence for an technical perfect guitar player
holy fuck this sounds Awesome!!! this should be an acoustic track
Black Metal is just noise..... my ass! this musical talent.
@labounti
The answer to that is simple, this is not black metal, it is extreme metal. People call it different things (majestic, epic, etc etc)... it takes influences from death, melodic, black and so on.
greats skills on acoustic guitar playing, sounds really sick, i hope they make and unplugged album :P
I like that spanish sound in song ... :)
Its Norwegian folk music
Sounds great! Obsidian C. is a great musician.
Please do one album like this! I beg you!
It sounds so fantastic!
Jeg gleder meg så sinnssykt til det nye albumet!
Gratulerer med MGP finale forresten! :P
Holy crap! That was beautiful! It was a little messy but the recorded version always sound better. Still good.
@thearieter :
No, his guitar has 12 strings, look closely...
@hisaroybataljonen :
This is not "The Dragontower", this is "Armada" (from the album Armada, he even says it before he starts playing) :)

Fantastic!
very nice !!!
this is armada, the primary song on the album.
I fucking love this band!!
You know, after hearing this I think making an unplugged version of the album wouldn't be such a bad Idea. Hell, I know I'd buy it.
@Themgoroth616 In an interview they said themselves they don't really consider their music black metal, but rather extreme metal with theatrical influences. OMG!! THIS IS AWESOMEEEEEEE!!! OBSIDIAN FOREVERRRRRRR!! does anyone have this tab? i really want it man :D
@CollapseGenTV The Masquerade? I was there too, Keep hung out at the merch stand the whole time. Really cool guys and killer music!
It's the title track from Armada album. Just like he says in the beginning og the video!
wow black metal on acoustic guitar was really cool
Imagine Obsidian working with Karl Sanders on an acoustic album. I dream about that and it's so good, it makes me cry. Arnt Ove Grønbech is fucking bad ass on a guitar!
Wicked right hand :D
They should honestly do an acoustic album.
ObsidianC certainly doesn't need an inferior guitarist to back him up. Wish I had even half of his technique.
@NinthNazgul Check out the song "The Black Uncharted". The acoustic interlude is AMAZING.
Should be the voice of toki next season (after toki learns to play the guitaz).
Obsidian C = Genius
That's really cool. You're good at arranging the songs for one guitar, I mean, you play chords but you still play a melody at the same time.
cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
12 strings guitar sounds really metal
Obsidian could do an kick ass music album all acoustic.
@MorkaGraven I agree, but perhaps not to your extent. They had it perfect with Armada.
Very nice, great playing. You should make an acoustic album. Ever hear Rodrigo y Gabriella?
Plus I noticed your playing a Seagull. Great guitars!
FUCKING AWSOMES EVEN ON ZE GRANDPAS GUITARS
Vengance rising acoustic would be dopee
Omg. Is his style spanish? Is it Arabic? What is it?! I NEED TO KNOW!
Rocio Juarez Keep of Kalessin is from Norway
@@deathfan2002 🤘🍻
Sounds awesome! Do Keep Of Kalessin have an unplugged album? ô.ô
They certainly did, but Obsidian C is still an immensely skilled guitarist.
FUCK ME.. full of awesomeness KoK is.
this guy can play parts that two guitarists would have trouble playing with a lead and rhythm part.
anyone know what tuning this is in?
Extremely late, but everything Keep of Kalessin released after through times of war was in e flat
wow
Does anyone know if they have ever done more stuff acoustically? Or is this it?
Can anyone tell me what the guitar is tuned in? and the name of the chords that he uses
@sunforger9087 or an album...
Actually... not that I don't like the electric version better... but...
Could you make an acoustic album :D
Maybe?...
Thats the grandpa's guitars! You're not metals! :D (Don't reply if you don't know Skwisgaar!)
Sound awesome both with distortion and acoustic!
@Wooohooo0733 He tunes in Eb i dont know about the chords though haha I'm just learning about theory

How that happened?
очень круто
thats a part of "armada"
@Runningtail HA i actually lol'd...good one
@AntiHero1996 Thanks well almost figured all of it now :) kinda sounds the same in my ear ofc not with all the fast insane playing but the chords are about to be there especially at 00:32 - 00:39 but well the first thing he playes the fast picking i can't really figure out so i just do some strumming up and down :) but atm i try to figure out how he holds the plectrum maby my fingers are just malformed x( but can anyone please explain how he holds it cuz when i try to hold it like him i lose it
Did anyone knows what type of conditioner this dude uses?
I see. It's a good point. But Keep Of Kalessin isn't your typical Norwegian black metal band. In certain cases, they have little to do with black metal. I'd really call them a black/thrash metal band with symphonic and progressive tendencies.

@Artharon IT'S BECOME YOUR WORST AND DARKEST FEAR
Why not? He may well do that. Anyway, does it really matter?
harhar grandpas guitars
