Take it from me, if you are thinking about getting the Revolver, reconsider. Mine hasn’t held up. It’s almost 3 years old, but the vinyl has shrunk and is coming unglued, and the felt strips on the bottom were falling down within the first summer in the Mississippi heat. I’m extremely disappointed in the longevity of the cover, especially considering the $1000 (give or take) that I paid for it. I feel as though I have taken care of it the best I can. It has had sun exposure for essentially 3 years straight, but then again, the bakflip on my dads 2012 Tundra while a bit faded is still going strong.
I like the idea of being able to see out the back with the revolver. what I don’t like about the revolver is it looks like it’s vinyl so somebody might stick a knife in it to rip it open. Yes they wouldn’t get in, but they would damage your whole top. With the backflip it’s easy to take it off when you put that big item in and it’s light enough and narrow enough to set it inside the bed. Plus when you look at the backflip, you know it’s aluminum so you know you can’t easily break in. so my choice is for the back flip.

My older trucks I always had a tool box in the back. My new Chevy came with a roll up cover that I wanted to keep and I was able to find a tool box that fits up tight to the front of the box and allows me to open the lid to gain access. The roll top is the only cover that would allow me to do this and have a 5th wheel hitch.

Hey They are both nice covers. I like a hard cover over a material. Not sure of revolver material over aluminum could eventually weaken and loosen being rolled up constantly. Backflip appears to be more solid and strength. I checked out Diamondback and Renegade hard covers. Great for top notch security purposes but I’m not going topside for hauling purpose. This leaves BakFlip. I think they company should come out with a headache rack to match up with BakFlip being fully open but not touching rear glass. I know there’s arms on both sides but you never know. I’m probably going with the BakFlip. Excellent video tutorial.
I had the Revolver on my Chevrolet High Country for a couple of years. I liked it but the revolver had to be completely closed or completely open. I sold the Revolver and purchased the MX4. The MX4 can be opened one panel at a time. So if I only need my truck bed open 1/4 or 1/2 of the way, I have the option. Really like the overall look of the X4S, however the MX4 works better for me. Great video.
Great comparison. I've been set on the X4S for awhile now but someone local is selling an MX4 for half the cost of new, so I've been going back and forth. I think I'm still gonna go with the X4S. Biggest reason is being able to see out my back window with out fully open. Plus I like the cleaner look vs the folded one.
I've had the Bak Flip on my 2017 Silverado for the past 6 years. Even though the Revolver looks great unfolded, I'd still go with the Bak Flip (again) when I decide to buy a new pickup. Thank you for sharing this video, gentlemen. It was very informative.
I have revolver x4 on my truck. I would rate it 3 out of 5. It looks good and easy to operate but it leaks quite a bit around the tail gate, freezes in the winter and you can not open it, also had a headache when some sand got it the rails because it's almost impossible to clean it. Had to take it all appart. Couple good things about this cover is that it does not block rear window, it works with a Tracrack SR and thats why I bought it in a first place.
Love my X4s. Props to Gears and Gadgets for doing the legwork and helping me decide. I get so many compliments on the thing. They upgraded materials on the last Revolver too. I’m not worried about it at all. Security and ease of use and honestly the cost was even easier to swallow. The X4s also doesn’t cover your back window.
Was in the market for a bed cover and never considered the roll up due to the fact they’re usually vinyl and velcro. I like the X4S and hope they have one for a 8ft bed!
I’m looking at lomax as well, but i saw a vid where the last pannel looked fairly easy to pull up with your hand, wondering if it’ll be pretty easy to pull it up enough to slip a coat hangar in. I know a thief will get in regardless, but it just looked too easy. What’s your experience with it?
@@B-Rad-Gee I just went out and looked at it and yes someone could lift it up and get in but you can only lift maybe half an inch and you need to get lucky to pull the string. I have stuff back there all the time and never had anything stollen in over 2 years. cover still works as new
It is the best video i have seen , very well made. Question, is one of them allow to install temporarely a truck caps without taking the rails off. I sometime go camping with my trailer and when i bring my bikes , i am looking to put them in the pickup truck bed and i may buy a Leer caps. Thanks for your very good work!

Didn’t like the window blocking on the MX4. Think we’re going with the new revolver, with the help of your videos. You being in Minnesota how do the covers stand up to the snow and ice? Thanks
I have the Bakflip for my 1500. Planning to get the Bak Revolver for my next truck. Same reason, rear window access. I found that the little arms don’t keep the tri-fold secure at highway speeds all of the time. Looks like revolver takes up less forward bed space.
As the owner of a roll up cover I can say that two of my biggest gripes are that there is no factory recommended way to have it partially open. If I need to haul something and if any part of an object sticks up higher than the bed rails then it technically needs to be FULLY open. Not a fan of that. Also, the vinyl nearest the tailgate gets creased after some use and it eventually splits and cracks open.
I have the X4s revolver, on 2017 Ridgeline RTL-E. I like it much better than the 22:13 tri-fold that came with the truck. These are my complaints; in the upstate New York winter, if there is any snow melt, the cover freezes in the track. I have had a number of complaints regarding the end caps just disappearing. The company has been very good about replacing these at no cost. Attempts to glue end caps have not been successful, nor has silicone applications. Last I heard, there was a new end cap being developed. Waiting to hear back.
I’m not sure which model I have but mine has an exterior seal similar to the ones on the sides of these and it’s so irritating because it gets in the way of closing tailgate to where I have to close tailgate first then slam the cover shut that way the seal stays over the tailgate and not tuck itself inside
Hello at the 20:00 minute mark could you elaborate which takes up less space in the open position? Trying to fit a bike in and the tire is close to bed on cab side thanks
What would you think the best would be for up in Canada with snow, currently have a tri-fold does not give full bed access and can freeze up in the winter, I like the roll up but I would question scraping the snow off of it do you think it would damage it and or rolling it up with a bit of snow on it that won't scrape off? Thanks for making this video. I have owned Ram 1500 (6'4"), 2500 (6'-4"), and 3500 (8' bed). Now I have the Chevy 1500 High Country and I was wondering if the flip would block the bed view of my high brake light camera, it looks like it would so I'm going with the X4s. I had the X2 on my 8ft bed and loved it! The issue with flips is they are heavier the farther you have to flip back (more sections to lift). Too much weight with the 8 ft bed. I gave the X2 one push to close it and it rolled all the way from start to the end. In Florida, the material falls off in high heat, but the X4s has rubber along the length in stead of glued material.
We put the flip on the non camera truck so we couldn’t confirm it, but we tried to show the angle and it looked like it would clear. It was close though so it might not
I'm picturing using both of these during a Northen IL winter. After owning a roll up cover in the past, I know I'm going to have times when there's maybe ice or snow on the cover and I'll need to open it. The Roll Bak may present some issues in this case. I'd like to see a video with ice and 2" of snow on it and see him roll it open.
I am comparing these 2 again. I had the x4s on my last truck. It was way better than the x2 but I did not like the noise it makes while on the highway. Is the mx4 quieter or about the same noise?
I have one more comment/question, and I'd like to know if you guys tried this. My High Country has a power tailgate. I'm wondering if the tailgate will go up and lock in place, on its own power, with the Bak tonneau locked in place. Do you know? Or will I have to push it closed manually?
For someone who hauls dirt and mulch that gets dumped from a bobcat, is the rail system going to be a problem? I really want a tonneau cover for the other times, but I'm worried it would get damaged during loading dirt/mulch or be impossible to clean out.
So I notice you have Minnesota plates...and maybe you've covered this in one of your other vidoes...but how does that X4S do in the winter time? Heard there can be issues getting it rolled up whenever the temps drop...any insight would be appreciated because that's my only draw back from pulling the trigger on one of these today

one question which on when fully open has more clearence? I have a fuel tank with a pop up lid and need about 3 inches from inside of bed back to open, I called BAK and they said " that is propietary information we cant tell you" what the heck ?
Revolver for sure does since it’s seal actually pushes the gate open. The flip has those seals on the top that could grab depending on how you adjust it. Better sealing out moisture might cost you that auto drop. A power down and up gate seems to use the motor for down vs gravity. High countries might never have these worries lol 😅
Thanks for the reviews on multiple style bed covers, I'm kind of torn between retrax and bakflip. In your opinion, and budget not really being a factor, what cover wld you recommend. I'm using mainly for storage of luggage on trips and expensive equipment when going to shooting competitions? Wld like for it to be very durable for yrs of use, and equipment to stay dry as possible.
If you don’t mind the big canister, the retrax is nicer, but you need an extra key to lock it which is a hassle. Bak having their stuff lock with the tailgate is the better config imo. That flip looked good at weather proofing, but that window block is a tough sell. Retrax with the ball bearings and no folding rubber would be the most durable I think. Tough call man 😅
@@shannondavidson1044 while driving any cover should be great in the rain. They stay dry for the most part with the aerodynamics of the cab. Parked in the rain you get a bit down the inside of the tailgate. I could adjust that for a tighter fit, but then the gate wouldn’t drop on its own. The friction would hold it up. I don’t mind some water running the down the gate on occasion I guess.
I know I’m late to the party here, but any info/thoughts on the how much the mounting rails protrude into the bed from the edge of the bed rail? Looks like the revolver rails are significantly wider? Any thoughts on whether these might cause problems with cargo leaning/bumping against them? What about the handles on the revolver? Do you see these getting in the way loading/unloading the bed? I am on my 2nd MX4 and have been pretty happy with them, but considering the revolver. Thanks for the review.
@@MakeManageGrowMoneyOnly on second one because of getting new trucks. Never had any problem with the durability of the side rails. Was just curious about whether the revolver side rails protruded further and would get in the way. FWIW I ended up going with another mx4 for my new truck.

i have the mx4 on my 2020 silverado and love it only thing is it blocks back window and blocks rearview/bed cameras. i really wanted the revolver but the side rails worried me i use my truck always hauling something and was concerned that the locking rails would be easy to damage.
Their is nothing perfect. Was going to get the revolver until I saw the delaminate occurring on the guy at works. Maybe the sentry is better. The flip style is proven.
Can't go wrong either way when u got them tweekers on the prowl trying to steal your shit! Lol. I have the MX4 tonneau cover but that revolver is badass as well. I'm happy with my purchase Bakflip makes great products & so does ROUGH COUNTRY, Their new one comes in $4-500.00 cheaper than Bakflip MX4 & almost the same thing... Lil different design on the kik stands that hold it up but overall same thing. The model they made prior $649 did not fold up against the window but they just released the newer one that does $749 way better than $1200 if your on a budget. & Must of us are cause that corrupt bastard Joe Briben 🖕 lol
My experience with the Revolver cover in California wasn't a good one... I had an X2 and not only did the felt/ carpet strips underneath come unglued from heat, but the vinyl covering shrank away from the sides, cracked and came unglued.

The felt strips that help keep you from getting pinched when rolling up the cover came off within the first summer in the Mississippi heat. I’m so torn on these. I think I’m going Revolver as neither really support gear loading on top. I don’t want to lose 12” of bed length so roll/canister option out. I need full access & don’t want to give up 150 lbs of payload so Diamondback is out. I like that Revolver covers the bed, doesn’t block the window and I can easily remove it for full access if needed.

@@josephpuchel6497 I went Revolver. Only quirk is little end caps can pop off if you don’t press them in flat while rolling up. Overall it’s been a good solution. Simple.
Correct. That’s my biggest hangup with this cover. Without it locked in place (fully closed) that aluminum channel has no way to secure the cover down if it were only partially closed, which I find pretty valuable on my current retractable.
I'm switching from an MX4 to a to an X4s. I love the MX4 so why am I switching. I tow a light weight fifth wheel and I have to fold up against the rear window in order to hitch the trailer. In all honesty that really hasn't been much of an issue for me but is a little inconvenient. I'm getting a bit "long in the tooth" and that last fold up against the rear window while standing beside the truck using one arm is getting to be something of a strain. I've had the MX4 for over 5 years and like it but I feel for my purposes it's time to try a change.
@laurenh4657 after about 2-3 months with the X4S I traded trucks . I didn't hesitate in getting another X4S. The plastic rear corner tips have a tendency to detach. Happened to me once so far. Not hard to reattach and I'm aware of the issue. I still find the X4S more convenient and suitable for my purposes.
Has anyone had a problem with the backflips getting waterlogged after a couple of years? I am getting ready to replace my 3rd backflips that I purchased thru Line-X, they have been very good about keeping to their lifetime warranty but I not very happy with the backflips type getting waterlogged. Just curious if anyone else has had this problem.
I’d say they are equal. Both latch down the sides in multiple places and are locked if the tailgate is up. Neither will be theft “proof”. But their going to need a lot more then a pocket knife to get into it like most covers.
I’d say the flip is easier to install solo. We both liked the revolver better due to how it rolls up nice. Both are excellent covers. It comes down to personal preference.
Honestly I don’t like either one too many moving parts that can fail. I currently have the RETRAX ONE MX with the matte finish it works great I’ve had it on my 2015 Toyota Tacoma since May of 2016. What I don’t like about any bed cover no matter what brand is the matte finish it SUCKS, you can’t wax them or ceramic coat them if a bird shits on the cover it’s difficult to remove. Even washing the cover will leave water spots. I don’t understand why the manufacturers don’t make the covers with a smooth finish so they can be waxed like the rest of the truck.
Their warranties are better than that. You could get a free one if they fail that fast vs fixing it. The X4 vs X4s had improvements to help with heat issues. (I’m Minnesota, so I can’t give a whole lot of insight)
If I didn’t need the rack system I’d still run the X4s. The canister is massive and I miss cover always being locked if the tailgate is closed. The Retrax is premium though. No complaints on the build quality or function.

@@bencefalo yep, I’m in Minnesota. Any of these covers with rigid metal slats can get froze up. I don’t open mine all that Often in the winter for that reason. But there is usually one or two times in the winter where I want it open and have to fight it a bit. Both the X4s and the retrax.
The mx4 has terrible fitment for my ram power wagon with ramboxes. Installed today and theres 1/2 gap on tailgate. 3/4 inch gap on each corner because the rails arent correctly sized and 1/2 gap at the bulkhead.
You just said it yourself you don’t know it was gonna hit the window. I did not even read the manual you are assuming.! Actually, the manual in order to adjust the video to make sure you can tell us where the bumpers really go just saying brother no harm no foul do you. Have a great day my friend.
One major question I have, that I really can’t find an answer to is: will any of these covers allow me to load in my motocross bike and strap it down like normal? I regularly head out to the track, so a cover that doesn’t allow me to transport my bike is a no go.
The Revolver will let the front wheel of a bike hit the front of the bed still. Speaking from experience you can ratchet it down snuggly into the front of the bed as if the cover isn't there. Not sure about the flip cover but looks like it might impede the front tire but could be lifted out of the way quickly, 🤷🏼.
@@rreye61492 I said the X2 and X4 use carpet to give you a cool spot to hold onto rolling it up and that adhesive often failed. The X4s switched to the rubber pads slatted into the aluminum.
I think the major disadvantage of the Revolver is the lack of a drainage channel like the MX4 has. If water gets past the seal, it will leak into the bed. On the MX4 it will run into the drainage channel and drain into the drain tubes.
I bought a mx4 from real truck. I had it installed by an authorized dealer. It leaked after light rain. Too much water was getting in. BAK industry sent me a brand new mx4. I went to a different company to install and this one is still not stopping plenty of water getting into my bed and destroying my gear. The company has incredible customer support and they back their product. But at this point I’m losing confidence

i watched a video where a guy put a camera in his bed at the car wash and it did leak with high pressure at the tail gate.but water just ran down the tailgate out out the bottom of it leaving the bed dry
I had a bak flip 2.0, which after 7 yrs I finally replaced with a leer canopy. It was the worst decision I ever made, it leaks like a siv. Worst pos I ever spent money on. I'm gonna take a loss and hopeful get a back flip with accessory channel for kayaks or what have you. Leer absolute Junk.

Very same experience with my revolver, I guess it just can take the South Texas heat. My cover started falling apart at around 2.5 years.
Doesn’t it have a 5 year warranty? File the claim and get a new one.

Watch the MX4. They tend to leak at the fold over joint. Was told to apply sealant to fix myself. They did send me a replacement, but it also leaked

They are holding up fine. When things get frozen they are not as easy to move. I try to avoid messing with it in the winter unless I have to

I have the Bakflip for my 1500. Planning to get the Bak Revolver for my next truck. Same reason, rear window access. I found that the little arms don’t keep the tri-fold secure at highway speeds all of the time. Looks like revolver takes up less forward bed space.

As the owner of a roll up cover I can say that two of my biggest gripes are that there is no factory recommended way to have it partially open. If I need to haul something and if any part of an object sticks up higher than the bed rails then it technically needs to be FULLY open. Not a fan of that. Also, the vinyl nearest the tailgate gets creased after some use and it eventually splits and cracks open.
I have the X4s revolver, on 2017 Ridgeline RTL-E. I like it much better than the 22:13 tri-fold that came with the truck. These are my complaints; in the upstate New York winter, if there is any snow melt, the cover freezes in the track. I have had a number of complaints regarding the end caps just disappearing. The company has been very good about replacing these at no cost. Attempts to glue end caps have not been successful, nor has silicone applications. Last I heard, there was a new end cap being developed. Waiting to hear back.

I’m not sure which model I have but mine has an exterior seal similar to the ones on the sides of these and it’s so irritating because it gets in the way of closing tailgate to where I have to close tailgate first then slam the cover shut that way the seal stays over the tailgate and not tuck itself inside
What is the weight difference between the 2?? How much heavier is it compared to the oem trifold? Ram limited

I was thinking of upgrading mine to an MX4 cover. I wanted to run a bed cover/bed rail combo.
What would you think the best would be for up in Canada with snow, currently have a tri-fold does not give full bed access and can freeze up in the winter, I like the roll up but I would question scraping the snow off of it do you think it would damage it and or rolling it up with a bit of snow on it that won't scrape off?

Thanks for making this video. I have owned Ram 1500 (6'4"), 2500 (6'-4"), and 3500 (8' bed). Now I have the Chevy 1500 High Country and I was wondering if the flip would block the bed view of my high brake light camera, it looks like it would so I'm going with the X4s. I had the X2 on my 8ft bed and loved it! The issue with flips is they are heavier the farther you have to flip back (more sections to lift). Too much weight with the 8 ft bed. I gave the X2 one push to close it and it rolled all the way from start to the end. In Florida, the material falls off in high heat, but the X4s has rubber along the length in stead of glued material.
We put the flip on the non camera truck so we couldn’t confirm it, but we tried to show the angle and it looked like it would clear. It was close though so it might not
I'm picturing using both of these during a Northen IL winter. After owning a roll up cover in the past, I know I'm going to have times when there's maybe ice or snow on the cover and I'll need to open it. The Roll Bak may present some issues in this case. I'd like to see a video with ice and 2" of snow on it and see him roll it open.
You cannot open in the winter. It freezes into one big sheet and latch does not work

I have one more comment/question, and I'd like to know if you guys tried this. My High Country has a power tailgate. I'm wondering if the tailgate will go up and lock in place, on its own power, with the Bak tonneau locked in place. Do you know? Or will I have to push it closed manually?
How easy are these to remove and put back on? I camp with a bed tent and would need to remove it every time I go on a camping trip.
There are plenty of bed racks/bars that are compatible with tonneau covers and allow them to roll up.
For someone who hauls dirt and mulch that gets dumped from a bobcat, is the rail system going to be a problem? I really want a tonneau cover for the other times, but I'm worried it would get damaged during loading dirt/mulch or be impossible to clean out.
So I notice you have Minnesota plates...and maybe you've covered this in one of your other vidoes...but how does that X4S do in the winter time? Heard there can be issues getting it rolled up whenever the temps drop...any insight would be appreciated because that's my only draw back from pulling the trigger on one of these today

one question which on when fully open has more clearence? I have a fuel tank with a pop up lid and need about 3 inches from inside of bed back to open, I called BAK and they said " that is propietary information we cant tell you" what the heck ?

Revolver for sure does since it’s seal actually pushes the gate open. The flip has those seals on the top that could grab depending on how you adjust it. Better sealing out moisture might cost you that auto drop. A power down and up gate seems to use the motor for down vs gravity. High countries might never have these worries lol 😅

Thanks for the reviews on multiple style bed covers, I'm kind of torn between retrax and bakflip. In your opinion, and budget not really being a factor, what cover wld you recommend. I'm using mainly for storage of luggage on trips and expensive equipment when going to shooting competitions? Wld like for it to be very durable for yrs of use, and equipment to stay dry as possible.
If you don’t mind the big canister, the retrax is nicer, but you need an extra key to lock it which is a hassle. Bak having their stuff lock with the tailgate is the better config imo. That flip looked good at weather proofing, but that window block is a tough sell. Retrax with the ball bearings and no folding rubber would be the most durable I think. Tough call man 😅

@@shannondavidson1044 while driving any cover should be great in the rain. They stay dry for the most part with the aerodynamics of the cab. Parked in the rain you get a bit down the inside of the tailgate. I could adjust that for a tighter fit, but then the gate wouldn’t drop on its own. The friction would hold it up. I don’t mind some water running the down the gate on occasion I guess.

I know I’m late to the party here, but any info/thoughts on the how much the mounting rails protrude into the bed from the edge of the bed rail? Looks like the revolver rails are significantly wider? Any thoughts on whether these might cause problems with cargo leaning/bumping against them? What about the handles on the revolver? Do you see these getting in the way loading/unloading the bed? I am on my 2nd MX4 and have been pretty happy with them, but considering the revolver. Thanks for the review.

@@MakeManageGrowMoneyOnly on second one because of getting new trucks. Never had any problem with the durability of the side rails. Was just curious about whether the revolver side rails protruded further and would get in the way. FWIW I ended up going with another mx4 for my new truck.

i have the mx4 on my 2020 silverado and love it only thing is it blocks back window and blocks rearview/bed cameras. i really wanted the revolver but the side rails worried me i use my truck always hauling something and was concerned that the locking rails would be easy to damage.
Their is nothing perfect. Was going to get the revolver until I saw the delaminate occurring on the guy at works. Maybe the sentry is better. The flip style is proven.
The blocking only happens when it’s folded all the way up, right?
I feel very proud that I invented both of these covers. So glad to see the world still enjoying them.

I'm happy with my purchase Bakflip makes great products & so does ROUGH COUNTRY, Their new one comes in $4-500.00 cheaper than Bakflip MX4 & almost the same thing... Lil different design on the kik stands that hold it up but overall same thing. The model they made prior $649 did not fold up against the window but they just released the newer one that does $749 way better than $1200 if your on a budget. & Must of us are cause that corrupt bastard Joe Briben 🖕 lol

My experience with the Revolver cover in California wasn't a good one... I had an X2 and not only did the felt/ carpet strips underneath come unglued from heat, but the vinyl covering shrank away from the sides, cracked and came unglued.
I’ve had the exact same experience. My vinyl covering hasn’t cracked but it has shrank and it is coming unglued. The felt strips that help keep you from getting pinched when rolling up the cover came off within the first summer in the Mississippi heat. When it does get icy here, you can forget about rolling it up lol. I’m extremely disappointed with it considering the $1000 price tag. It’s barely been 3 years and it’s basically toast. Meanwhile the bakflip on my dads 2012 tundra, while it does look a bit weathered, still going strong.
I’m so torn on these. I think I’m going Revolver as neither really support gear loading on top. I don’t want to lose 12” of bed length so roll/canister option out. I need full access & don’t want to give up 150 lbs of payload so Diamondback is out. I like that Revolver covers the bed, doesn’t block the window and I can easily remove it for full access if needed.

@@josephpuchel6497 I went Revolver. Only quirk is little end caps can pop off if you don’t press them in flat while rolling up. Overall it’s been a good solution. Simple.

You won't be able to open it in the winter. It freezes shut like a huge piece of metal.Even worse if you forget to close it before it freezes 😅
It also leaks inside especially near the tailgate and rubber seals get wrinkled over time and glue gives up.
So with the Revolver, its either all the way open or all the way closed? No option for 1/3 or 1/2 way open like the X4?
Correct. That’s my biggest hangup with this cover. Without it locked in place (fully closed) that aluminum channel has no way to secure the cover down if it were only partially closed, which I find pretty valuable on my current retractable.
Im trying to find the motorized bakflip they had for the avalanche, anybody got any ideas, the one that flips and stowed on top of the cab????
With Bakflip How did you get the neoprene gasket to stick to the spray liner in the trailboss
Clean it good, then alcohol wipes. Sticks fine. It gets pinched into place anyway. It’s not going anywhere.
I'm switching from an MX4 to a to an X4s. I love the MX4 so why am I switching. I tow a light weight fifth wheel and I have to fold up against the rear window in order to hitch the trailer. In all honesty that really hasn't been much of an issue for me but is a little inconvenient. I'm getting a bit "long in the tooth" and that last fold up against the rear window while standing beside the truck using one arm is getting to be something of a strain. I've had the MX4 for over 5 years and like it but I feel for my purposes it's time to try a change.
Please come back and review your Revolver after a few months. We’re struggling on which cover to purchase - they both have their pros and cons.
@laurenh4657 after about 2-3 months with the X4S I traded trucks . I didn't hesitate in getting another X4S. The plastic rear corner tips have a tendency to detach. Happened to me once so far. Not hard to reattach and I'm aware of the issue. I still find the X4S more convenient and suitable for my purposes.
Has anyone had a problem with the backflips getting waterlogged after a couple of years? I am getting ready to replace my 3rd backflips that I purchased thru Line-X, they have been very good about keeping to their lifetime warranty but I not very happy with the backflips type getting waterlogged. Just curious if anyone else has had this problem.

I’d say they are equal. Both latch down the sides in multiple places and are locked if the tailgate is up. Neither will be theft “proof”. But their going to need a lot more then a pocket knife to get into it like most covers.
these covers with the wire pulls to release, I feel a wire coat hanger would get someone into them in 2 seconds.

I’d say the flip is easier to install solo. We both liked the revolver better due to how it rolls up nice. Both are excellent covers. It comes down to personal preference.

Honestly I don’t like either one too many moving parts that can fail. I currently have the RETRAX ONE MX with the matte finish it works great I’ve had it on my 2015 Toyota Tacoma since May of 2016. What I don’t like about any bed cover no matter what brand is the matte finish it SUCKS, you can’t wax them or ceramic coat them if a bird shits on the cover it’s difficult to remove. Even washing the cover will leave water spots. I don’t understand why the manufacturers don’t make the covers with a smooth finish so they can be waxed like the rest of the truck.

I think both are about equal. If you are worried about dust I’d also look into seals for the bottom of the tailgate (the edge with the hinge)
I would imagine these will start falling apart after 2 to 3 years in Arizona heat... are the seals and rubber parts serviceable?
Their warranties are better than that. You could get a free one if they fail that fast vs fixing it. The X4 vs X4s had improvements to help with heat issues. (I’m Minnesota, so I can’t give a whole lot of insight)

If I didn’t need the rack system I’d still run the X4s. The canister is massive and I miss cover always being locked if the tailgate is closed. The Retrax is premium though. No complaints on the build quality or function.

@@bencefalo yep, I’m in Minnesota. Any of these covers with rigid metal slats can get froze up. I don’t open mine all that Often in the winter for that reason. But there is usually one or two times in the winter where I want it open and have to fight it a bit. Both the X4s and the retrax.

The mx4 has terrible fitment for my ram power wagon with ramboxes. Installed today and theres 1/2 gap on tailgate. 3/4 inch gap on each corner because the rails arent correctly sized and 1/2 gap at the bulkhead.
I prefer the Paragon Ultimate over both of these.
You just said it yourself you don’t know it was gonna hit the window. I did not even read the manual you are assuming.! Actually, the manual in order to adjust the video to make sure you can tell us where the bumpers really go just saying brother no harm no foul do you. Have a great day my friend.
One major question I have, that I really can’t find an answer to is: will any of these covers allow me to load in my motocross bike and strap it down like normal? I regularly head out to the track, so a cover that doesn’t allow me to transport my bike is a no go.
The Revolver will let the front wheel of a bike hit the front of the bed still. Speaking from experience you can ratchet it down snuggly into the front of the bed as if the cover isn't there. Not sure about the flip cover but looks like it might impede the front tire but could be lifted out of the way quickly, 🤷🏼.
The revolver would work even better if the camera guy would have cinched up on the passenger side strap.
The revolvers tend to delaminate 2-3yrs in. They seem cool, but the adhesive breaks down. Guy at work his started falling apart right at 2yrs.

@@rreye61492 I said the X2 and X4 use carpet to give you a cool spot to hold onto rolling it up and that adhesive often failed. The X4s switched to the rubber pads slatted into the aluminum.

I think the major disadvantage of the Revolver is the lack of a drainage channel like the MX4 has. If water gets past the seal, it will leak into the bed. On the MX4 it will run into the drainage channel and drain into the drain tubes.
They are both made with a drainage channel. I owned a Bak Flip as well as the revolver X2 on different trucks. and they were both dry.
I bought a mx4 from real truck.
I had it installed by an authorized dealer.
It leaked after light rain.
Too much water was getting in.
BAK industry sent me a brand new mx4.
I went to a different company to install and this one is still not stopping plenty of water getting into my bed and destroying my gear.
The company has incredible customer support and they back their product.
But at this point I’m losing confidence

i watched a video where a guy put a camera in his bed at the car wash and it did leak with high pressure at the tail gate.but water just ran down the tailgate out out the bottom of it leaving the bed dry
The backflip would chip the paint on the frame around the back window.
I had a bak flip 2.0, which after 7 yrs I finally replaced with a leer canopy. It was the worst decision I ever made, it leaks like a siv. Worst pos I ever spent money on. I'm gonna take a loss and hopeful get a back flip with accessory channel for kayaks or what have you. Leer absolute Junk.
