Good review. Thanks for being thorough and honest. I am a "watertight" person (as possible) and own a 3500 GMC because we tow a heavy RV. Most of the time I have expensive tools in the bed that I need as waterproof as possible to protect them. Otherwise I'd love to be driving a Yukon. Waiting on GM to introduce a Yukon 3500 LOL. I put one of these on my F350 Long bed. I love it. I'm even more impressed with BAK's customer service. My cover want's to pop up near the cab just to the rear of where it's bolted to the rails. My dealer sent me a replacement. Same issue again. Seems to be a lot of tension right at the first joint that prevents it from freely laying flat. I contacted Bak and they've sent me another cover. Its waiting for me to get home to install. For the money I shouldn't have to pop it down after I get somewhere. But BAK is amazing and I love it other than that. Great video. With ya on the water tight part. Heck my 2021 F350 you can see daylight in all four corners of the bed so the cover is probably more water tight than fords engineering.
I just recently purchased this same cover for my F-150. First off it was really easy to install but it was delivered and the little plastic covers (towards the tailgate) were broke. I called the customer service folks and they are amazing, they sent me replacement parts immediately. And I replaced the broken parts with no problem. Second, I’ve had it on the truck now for a week or two and it is very sturdy. I used to have the tri-fold bed cover and it’s as sturdy or sturdier than that. This new cover seals better than my trifold. I also like how I can see out the back window when I am hauling stuff in the bed. The old cover completely blocked my view from behind. Over all I am really happy with it.
@@_ready__No leakage, but there is some separation of the cloth covering that’s on the metal top towards the back of the bed. I need to call them and see if they will exchange it. But I live in southeast Texas and it gets really hot here and humid here, so I think the glue or whatever they use to bond the cover to the metal can’t handle it.

@@_ready__as you have probably come to find there is alot of choices on the market. The only thing I wouldn’t purchase is the soft bed covers, those seem to be really cheap and don’t last long. It’s hard to say which type is better, trifold or roll. They both have their pluses and minuses. They both seal up well. If the cloth wasn’t coming off of mine I would say the roll type is better. If the trifold didn’t block the rear window when up, I would say that one is better lol. If BAK swaps out this one I have with no issues then I would say go with them.
@@bpri9880 I think I have it narrowed down to the ultra flex flip cover that is similar to the Bak MX4 I think it is …. and the Bak X4S or maybe the x4TS with the rail system for added options. I’m sure Bak will send you a new one. I’d be interested to know. Thanks
I have a BAK X4s on my Tundra 22 Limited and I love it. Only drops of water comes in with heavy rain at the tail gate and maybe at the front of the bed but nothing that creates puddles (I don't expect "water proof" from this type of cover). I looks clean, makes no noise at high speeds nor does it flap all over the place like a flag, and easy roll up to access my gear. For the money (they are not that that cheap), I think anyone looking for a soft cover will be satisfied.
Currently in the market. Bought Revolver2 in 2015 for 2015 Sierra. Lasted 7 years. Not bad. THE winning feature is the non-visibility blocking profile when rolled up. For the $ I can’t complain. What finally took it out was two slats that would no longer interlock. They caused the tonneau to buckle which cracked the vinyl cover. Sucks because I maintained it religiously with 303 UV cleaner and conditioner. Also, as you said, the two underneath felt strips (critical for not pinching or burning your hands while rolling it up) came loose in year 2 or 3. They were completely immune to any adhesive I tried and just hung there for 5+ years :( All in all … very happy. Just not interested in taking up the front third of my short bed or blocking my rear window … at all. P.S. … sorry to be a grammar Nazi, but bureau, chateau, Flambeau, plateau, tonneau. ‘tah know’ Not ‘tah knew’ 👍
Mine lasted 5 years and then fell apart. Top vinyl peeled off. One locking rail stopped locking. The back slats came loose. Worked well for 5 years. My truck is not garaged.
Same here on X2. Lasted 6 years on F150 in Dallas. Bottom felt came off in three years, but BAK sent me replacement kit at no charge. Vinyl and rubber seal near cab just twisted up. Looking at a Line-x cover with lifetime warranty, but they are $1200, so may need to wait.
Had mine for 4 month and I live in the Caribbean where is hot all year long and is holding up great, it DOES NOT sound when I'm driving ,love this cover
I’ve owned many of these expensive covers over the years and they just tend to fall apart within 2 years. I don’t even bother with these pricey ones any more. I just use a cheap rollup cover (Tyger) and it’s been holding up great for 3 years now.
Maybe you’ll have better luck than I did, none of the expensive ones for me held up overtime. They either leaked water like a sieve, or the panels would start to fall apart. Now I will admit right now I have the gator recoil cover on my truck. It’s a retractable and so far it’s been on my truck for a year and a half and has actually held up. The only reason I bought it is because a friend of mine totaled his truck, but the cover was still intact so he sold it to me for $400.
Hey Dan, I've been waiting for your review on this cover because it's the one I wanted for my Maverick and seeing that we both live in AZ I wanted to hear how well it held up to the sun and heat. After seeing this video I used your link and order one. Now the race is on to see which one arrives first, my Maverick or the cover, both due towards the end of April!
I certainly appreciate your honest, straightforward, & real life review of the various covers you tested. I have the BAKFlip F1 & wasn't satisfied with the weather protection. The leaks I experienced on the bulkhead (very minor) & tailgate are expected. But, not in between the panels, which was frustrating when traveling with gear. I had the BAK Revolver X4 for five years reliably. I will exchange my 3-panel F1 to the Revoler X4S just as the one you have. Thanks for the good review!
I like your video about your cover... I live in south Florida and have had the same BAK Revolver 2x cover for about 7 years ago... I have had it on 3 different F150 with the Super Crew Cab. The only issues I have had with it are 1 over the years the rubber weather seals along the sides and the back will stay to shrink or crack after about 4 years. After the 6th year it was faded and I wanted to her it recovered.... BAK would not sell me a new vinyl cover to replace it... So I went to a Marine Upholstery Shop and they redid the cover for $500.00.
My 10yo rigid ABS Genuine FORD accessory ( UNDERCOVER ) bed cover still looks/works GREAT. The Texas sun has had no affect on it. It supports my 230lb. weight when I crawl on it to wipe the roof panel & rear window following the 1 - 2X a week drive-thru car washes. It came Painted-to-Match my Sterling Gray F-150.

110 degree plus is real common in Northern CA these days. That's Phoenix weather for much higher prices, word of advice stay in Phoenix it's cooler there than Northern CA nowadays. And now back to the cover, that aluminum basically turns the top into a baking sheet in the sun.
I have an older Bak , I like it ! the draw back in Minnesota it freezes up the older ones have the fabric ribs on the underside instead of the rubber ones even though my cover is 11 years old it still looks good and works good
I’m one of those who has the first gen cover with fabric hanging down , Under warranty new one should be here this week and there sending the new model 👍👍
Just purchased this. I had a Truxedo sentry Hard roll up on my last truck and it drove me crazy having to open the cover before closing tailgate. I think this Bak rev X4S will be my favorite cover to date. I’ve had several different kinds.
I wish I had that kind of luck.I have had the X2 since 2017 they last about a year in California heat and the the glue comes apart making the cover un useable.The company has been great with customer service they have replaced the cover four times for me. I love the cover it just is not for places that get over a 100 degrees. I am thinking the x4 back flip will be my next cover with that kind of customer service.
Bought an X4S one year ago for my F-150. Love it but one of the cable ends broke and I now have to manually release the little white lock to open it. I reported it to Realtruck and BAK a week ago (online warranty claim), and other than an email acknowledgement, they’ve been silent. Very disappointing. Even sent them a photo. I hope they’re going to honor their warranty.
I live in the southwest and it has failed twice. At least BAK honors their warranty. I told them I don't want another one since they are garbage and can't hold up to the desert heat. They are sending me a hard cover fold-up. I hope this does better.
I had the Bakflip MX4 (it was installed on the truck when I purchased it) but even in the rain, I would have a pond of water throughout my bed. I had to take a towel and dry the bed in order to put my luggage or other items in there.
Great, follow up video. Only reason I am leaning toward a tri fold like I previously had would be for the back glass protection from loading or shifting load while hauling...Any thoughts on that when considering this one over the others? Also, here we are 2 years later, how is the fabric holding up? Thank you.
I agree with you on the whole water issue. I'm more bothered by all the dust that gets in the box of the truck. I drive dirt roads a lot and it's crazy how filthy it gets under that tonnou cover. Do you know of any decent products that can help to seal things up a bit? I've tried an aftermarket gasket/seal of some sort that went around the tailgate with mixed results.
The carpet you have in the bed of the truck is it padded so you don't feel the ribs in the bed and where did find it. I'm looking at covers to. Just a new 2022 Ford Fx off road. Enjoy ur videos.

Thanks for the videos, They helped me make a decision. In this video I noticed the bed camera view while you were driving down the road. On my 2021 Lariat the system tells me the camera is disabled while moving - only works when I'm stopped or reversing. What do you know about that? Sorry to be off-topic!

What's the point in all of the aluminum strips under the fabric? Is that someplace to park a four-wheeler? I don't understand the purpose in building something with that much metal.
@@jayryan7473 because fabric looks the nicest out of any material but it’s the least secure. So it’s the best way to get security and aesthetic out of one product. No you can’t park a four-wheeler on top of it.
Ok how about the opposite. You live in Phoenix.. always warm and sunny. I live in Michigan .... 3 months of summer and the rest bad weather .... winters are horrendous. How do these hold up in winter ? I have a 2022 f150 in assembly as I write this so I'm looking for the best tonneau for the winter. Gotta be functional in cold weather. I have this cover on a Toyota Tundra, I love it--in the warm weather, once winter hits, and we get snow, moisture and freezing temps, not so much. It cannot be rolled if there is any moisture or snow on the cover, and of it already rolled up, it cannot be rolled out flat. So while it is a great cover, I am shopping for something different now.
The weather or waterproofing topic is one that is key for me...plus security. I use my truck as a truck 95% of the time( hauling firewood, mulch, lumber, tools, towing heavy loads, etc) but on occasion I may have golf clubs, camping equipment, etc.that I don't want wet when I arrive at my destination and I need to keep them secure...So something other than a pickup is not an option. My question...which is the best cover that provides the best waterproofing and security (tools, camping equipment are not cheap to replace).???
It holds up well but with it being outside you def want to hit it with 303 protectant to keep some of the vinyl from drying and cracking. The UV here in Phx with trucks parked in the sun CRUSHES tonneau covers. I’ve even noticed other people with the powder coated aluminum covers start peeling / fading in a couple years if not maintained.
I just ordered this for my GMC Canyon AT4. I'm also looking at getting a full bed rug liner. As for the water it does let in, how does the bed rug fare when it gets wet? Does it retain water or does it dry out easily?
What do you see the advantage of the X4S over the MX4? Looks like we transport similar gear and I was looking at the MX4 for both security and ease of access. Thoughts?
I purchased that x4s earlier this year (it was for sure the x4s) and started to have issues with it this month. I’m sure it was due to the heat of the summer. I had a mx4 for about 5 years on my old truck and never had issues with it. There were the slight annoyances like the little bars that hold the cover up when fully open falling off and rolling in the bed. I will say that Bak customer support is awesome and making it right, but my preference after owning both is the mx4.
POS, owned 1st and 2nd gen. Same failures, including hinge and vinyl separation. Not a good purchase if you live in hot sunny conditions. If they are on v4, think about it.
Any concern about water getting under the bed rug where you have the plastic tailgate cover over it? I could imagine it takes longer for that area to dry.
@@---tx9xx on the Ford should be active now with OTA updates up to date. It was something I had to program prior to the OTA but I wouldn’t share that process now because no sense showing people how to do something potentially bricking modules when OTA does for you.
I have a roll up cover on my King Ranch. Rather than rolling up towards the rear window, it rolls under into the bed. Sounds good but really isn’t in that it takes up room in the bed. A cleaner look but i think i will upgrade to the Revolver product.
Is the cove either all the way open or all the way closed? I have the 4 panel cover currently and have had need to flip a panel or two open so I could carry items taller than those which would fit under it. Is there a way to secure the roll part way open? Thanks

Well good luck with that X4S, my first Revolver literately fell apart in several ways at 3.5 years, they replaced the cover with the current model and it is now about 1.5 years old and out of warranty and guess what, yesterday it started falling apart, the aluminum slats are coming apart from the cover and then they bind and won't lay flat. Since it's now out of warranty I know they won't replace it again so I have another very expensive BAK piece of junk on my hands. Sorry I don't agree with your assessment of BAK's Revolver X4S.
What does one do when the temperature drops ? Rain turns into snow, ice etc... I don't think we want to pick away at the top to remove ice build up. If you don't, that ice is going to damage the material.
It does the exact same thing as every other cover on the market. I’ve builds up on the flat surface, it sucks for a day for two, then it goes away. I am originally from Buffalo NY so I understand how cold weather works. It makes everything suck including freezing up car doors and every tonneau cover being flat causes an issue. If it’s that big of a problem, get a garage. Otherwise deal with the misery for a few days like everyone else.
How secure is it? Meaning do you think someone with a coat hanger could unlatch the release through the lip of the rear above the tailgate? What kind of weight can you put on top of it? Does it allow racks to be used with it?
Hey I like the cover but think they should update the sides with Velcro similar to Truxedo CT and replace those end plastic pieces that break or fall off.
Watched these reviews for the x4s before recently purchasing this cover for my 6.5 ft 2022 F150. Not mentioned anywhere is the total garbage design of the rear corner plastic piece where the cover meets the tailgate. Mine arrive broken, leaving a hole in the back corner of my cover. After inspecting the side of my cover that is not broken - its hard to imagine this design will last over time. Also it would be very easy to just pry the rear corner piece off to peak inside the bed. The rest of the cover is nice. But critical pieces are under engineered and crap material for the money. Biggest pros so far are the flush fit to the bed and matte finish. I would trade away the extra foam bumpers to prevent hitting the window, for more money spent on the integrity of the cover structure
No, I don’t know if any roll up style tonneau cover that would. For that kind of security you would have to go with more of a diamondback style which is more secure but also reduces versatility in bed use. Everything has its pros and cons.
The BAK bed cover is the worst product on the market. I bought up to two cars, that's the worst two of my ten pick ups. The company does not honor the warranty.
Likely another old X4 commenter not talking about the X4S. The old X4 was pretty horrible from what I understand but the X4S is incredibly solid and has lived outside in Phoenix for a year now with no issues.

Complete garbage. Mine lasted a year and Completely fell apart. The winters were horrible any ice build up and would not open util it defrosted. Never will I buy one again. Bang for buck...lol they got more buck than I got bang.

If it was built to keep people out, then you better believe it can be broken into. I would recommend using 3M adhesion promotor and the two sided tape will NOT come loose. It is a game changer.

My 10yo rigid ABS Genuine FORD accessory ( UNDERCOVER ) bed cover still looks/works GREAT. The Texas sun has had no affect on it.
It supports my 230lb. weight when I crawl on it to wipe the roof panel & rear window following the 1 - 2X a week drive-thru car washes. It came Painted-to-Match my Sterling Gray F-150.

My vehicle is a 2022 Ford Maverick Lariat.
110 degree plus is real common in Northern CA these days. That's Phoenix weather for much higher prices, word of advice stay in Phoenix it's cooler there than Northern CA nowadays. And now back to the cover, that aluminum basically turns the top into a baking sheet in the sun.

I have an older Bak , I like it ! the draw back in Minnesota it freezes up the older ones have the fabric ribs on the underside instead of the rubber ones
even though my cover is 11 years old it still looks good and works good

Just purchased this. I had a Truxedo sentry Hard roll up on my last truck and it drove me crazy having to open the cover before closing tailgate. I think this Bak rev X4S will be my favorite cover to date. I’ve had several different kinds.

I wish I had that kind of luck.I have had the X2 since 2017 they last about a year in California heat and the the glue comes apart making the cover un useable.The company has been great with customer service they have replaced the cover four times for me. I love the cover it just is not for places that get over a 100 degrees. I am thinking the x4 back flip will be my next cover with that kind of customer service.
Bought an X4S one year ago for my F-150. Love it but one of the cable ends broke and I now have to manually release the little white lock to open it. I reported it to Realtruck and BAK a week ago (online warranty claim), and other than an email acknowledgement, they’ve been silent. Very disappointing. Even sent them a photo. I hope they’re going to honor their warranty.

I live in the southwest and it has failed twice. At least BAK honors their warranty. I told them I don't want another one since they are garbage and can't hold up to the desert heat. They are sending me a hard cover fold-up. I hope this does better.
I had the Bakflip MX4 (it was installed on the truck when I purchased it) but even in the rain, I would have a pond of water throughout my bed. I had to take a towel and dry the bed in order to put my luggage or other items in there.
Great, follow up video. Only reason I am leaning toward a tri fold like I previously had would be for the back glass protection from loading or shifting load while hauling...Any thoughts on that when considering this one over the others? Also, here we are 2 years later, how is the fabric holding up? Thank you.
I agree with you on the whole water issue. I'm more bothered by all the dust that gets in the box of the truck. I drive dirt roads a lot and it's crazy how filthy it gets under that tonnou cover. Do you know of any decent products that can help to seal things up a bit? I've tried an aftermarket gasket/seal of some sort that went around the tailgate with mixed results.

The carpet you have in the bed of the truck is it padded so you don't feel the ribs in the bed and where did find it. I'm looking at covers to. Just a new 2022 Ford Fx off road. Enjoy ur videos.

Thanks for the videos, They helped me make a decision. In this video I noticed the bed camera view while you were driving down the road. On my 2021 Lariat the system tells me the camera is disabled while moving - only works when I'm stopped or reversing. What do you know about that? Sorry to be off-topic!

What's the point in all of the aluminum strips under the fabric? Is that someplace to park a four-wheeler? I don't understand the purpose in building something with that much metal.
@@jayryan7473 because fabric looks the nicest out of any material but it’s the least secure. So it’s the best way to get security and aesthetic out of one product. No you can’t park a four-wheeler on top of it.
Ok how about the opposite. You live in Phoenix.. always warm and sunny. I live in Michigan .... 3 months of summer and the rest bad weather .... winters are horrendous. How do these hold up in winter ? I have a 2022 f150 in assembly as I write this so I'm looking for the best tonneau for the winter. Gotta be functional in cold weather. I like the one you reviewed in this video so far.

I have this cover on a Toyota Tundra, I love it--in the warm weather, once winter hits, and we get snow, moisture and freezing temps, not so much. It cannot be rolled if there is any moisture or snow on the cover, and of it already rolled up, it cannot be rolled out flat. So while it is a great cover, I am shopping for something different now.

The weather or waterproofing topic is one that is key for me...plus security.
I use my truck as a truck 95% of the time( hauling firewood, mulch, lumber, tools, towing heavy loads, etc) but on occasion I may have golf clubs, camping equipment, etc.that I don't want wet when I arrive at my destination and I need to keep them secure...So something other than a pickup is not an option.
My question...which is the best cover that provides the best waterproofing and security (tools, camping equipment are not cheap to replace).???
@georgepatterson5885 get a diamond back bed cover. Not as easy to remove for full bed access but it's waterproof.

Hey, how is this thing holding up? I live in Gilbert and my Ram 2500 is parked outside 24/7. I need the roll up to fit dirt bikes.
It holds up well but with it being outside you def want to hit it with 303 protectant to keep some of the vinyl from drying and cracking. The UV here in Phx with trucks parked in the sun CRUSHES tonneau covers. I’ve even noticed other people with the powder coated aluminum covers start peeling / fading in a couple years if not maintained.
I just ordered this for my GMC Canyon AT4. I'm also looking at getting a full bed rug liner. As for the water it does let in, how does the bed rug fare when it gets wet? Does it retain water or does it dry out easily?

What do you see the advantage of the X4S over the MX4? Looks like we transport similar gear and I was looking at the MX4 for both security and ease of access. Thoughts?
I purchased that x4s earlier this year (it was for sure the x4s) and started to have issues with it this month. I’m sure it was due to the heat of the summer. I had a mx4 for about 5 years on my old truck and never had issues with it. There were the slight annoyances like the little bars that hold the cover up when fully open falling off and rolling in the bed. I will say that Bak customer support is awesome and making it right, but my preference after owning both is the mx4.
Vision out the back window is not possible when MX4 is open.

POS, owned 1st and 2nd gen. Same failures, including hinge and vinyl separation.
Not a good purchase if you live in hot sunny conditions.

Not with a roll up like that. Unless you do something custom.
Any concern about water getting under the bed rug where you have the plastic tailgate cover over it? I could imagine it takes longer for that area to dry.

@@---tx9xx on the Ford should be active now with OTA updates up to date. It was something I had to program prior to the OTA but I wouldn’t share that process now because no sense showing people how to do something potentially bricking modules when OTA does for you.
I have a roll up cover on my King Ranch. Rather than rolling up towards the rear window, it rolls under into the bed. Sounds good but really isn’t in that it takes up room in the bed. A cleaner look but i think i will upgrade to the Revolver product.
Is the cove either all the way open or all the way closed? I have the 4 panel cover currently and have had need to flip a panel or two open so I could carry items taller than those which would fit under it. Is there a way to secure the roll part way open? Thanks

Well good luck with that X4S, my first Revolver literately fell apart in several ways at 3.5 years, they replaced the cover with the current model and it is now about 1.5 years old and out of warranty and guess what, yesterday it started falling apart, the aluminum slats are coming apart from the cover and then they bind and won't lay flat. Since it's now out of warranty I know they won't replace it again so I have another very expensive BAK piece of junk on my hands. Sorry I don't agree with your assessment of BAK's Revolver X4S.

I don't think we want to pick away at the top to remove ice build up.
If you don't, that ice is going to damage the material.
It does the exact same thing as every other cover on the market. I’ve builds up on the flat surface, it sucks for a day for two, then it goes away. I am originally from Buffalo NY so I understand how cold weather works. It makes everything suck including freezing up car doors and every tonneau cover being flat causes an issue. If it’s that big of a problem, get a garage. Otherwise deal with the misery for a few days like everyone else.

How secure is it? Meaning do you think someone with a coat hanger could unlatch the release through the lip of the rear above the tailgate? What kind of weight can you put on top of it? Does it allow racks to be used with it?
That's why I went with the Leer HF650M. Buddy of mine had his crap stolen, no damage except to the seal where they jammed something in.

Hey I like the cover but think they should update the sides with Velcro similar to Truxedo CT and replace those end plastic pieces that break or fall off.

Watched these reviews for the x4s before recently purchasing this cover for my 6.5 ft 2022 F150.
Not mentioned anywhere is the total garbage design of the rear corner plastic piece where the cover meets the tailgate.
Mine arrive broken, leaving a hole in the back corner of my cover. After inspecting the side of my cover that is not broken - its hard to imagine this design will last over time. Also it would be very easy to just pry the rear corner piece off to peak inside the bed.
The rest of the cover is nice. But critical pieces are under engineered and crap material for the money.
Biggest pros so far are the flush fit to the bed and matte finish. I would trade away the extra foam bumpers to prevent hitting the window, for more money spent on the integrity of the cover structure

No, I don’t know if any roll up style tonneau cover that would. For that kind of security you would have to go with more of a diamondback style which is more secure but also reduces versatility in bed use. Everything has its pros and cons.

The BAK bed cover is the worst product on the market. I bought up to two cars, that's the worst two of my ten pick ups. The company does not honor the warranty.
Likely another old X4 commenter not talking about the X4S. The old X4 was pretty horrible from what I understand but the X4S is incredibly solid and has lived outside in Phoenix for a year now with no issues.

Complete garbage. Mine lasted a year and Completely fell apart. The winters were horrible any ice build up and would not open util it defrosted. Never will I buy one again. Bang for buck...lol they got more buck than I got bang.

@@GearsGadgets I have safes in my vehicle that store firearms, but doesn't mean they are truly safe. Sure smash and grab guys won't bother with them, but given enough time, they can all be busted. If it was built to keep people out, then you better believe it can be broken into. I was just commenting to the fact that if you can't live without it, maybe reexamination of what you keep in there is in line.
