- Took a while but the first coat is on using a compressor spraying JOTUN Penguard HB Epoxy Two Pack Paint. This is an undercoat although it can be used as a top coat if you dont mind the matt look instead of Gloss.
i used a 4+1 acrylic filler primer and rolled it on ,leaves a very orange peel surface but easy to sand flat
How did your compressor get on?
I have literally been searching for ages for a cheaper set up to work on my boat project and spray it when the time comes, literally just bought a massive compressor 3 days ago for my boat work was fed up of Searching and everything had cfm outputs too low 🙄 I want to spray mine. I have a very long way to go yet but will be following your channel might get some inspiration. I am doing a full rebuild / restoration . Thanks for taking the time to do these videos.
hi mate, just seen the comment. my compressor did really well and was only a small one. It did struggle on occassion but didnt hinder the finish. Get some vids of your project up on youtube. good to look back on.
Just asking how much did jotun paint epoxy set you back
Just giving some advice with spraying. Don't flick your wrist, move arm straight back and forth. Cause when you flick your wrist you would seen it hadn't gone on even
Hi Mate. bought it from Rawlings paints. check out their website.
Nice one. Ill do that next round. Wrist was Aching the next day so will help that too.
@@allkindsaprojects thanks for that, I'll check them. I've been working on a 20ft o'sullivan skellig, it's late 60s. Transom on my one kinda unique. It has thing called a transom well technically my out board is going through the hull . I have to replace transom well and cabin is being pushed up to front. I'm making look more sleek. It's a great on rough days very stable on the water.
Yeah, first coat will always show up all the imperfections, I'm just surprised you didn't end up with loads of runs as you had your gun set on spot. But you were moving fast, which is good. Changing your spray pattern will make it easier to do longer even strokes, just try release the trigger at the end of each pass, as it will reduce the likelihood of dumping paint at the end of each stroke. After your first pass, start your second pass so it will cover 50% of your first pass, and the other 50% covers a new area, so you go over 50% of your last pass each time! Makes for a more even cover. But your garage doors look good!
Thanks Mate. Good advice which Ill use on the next coats. Started releasing the trigger towards the end as could see the paint dump as you said. Good learning process this.
I've just painted my dell quay dory using car paints , pearl black and white ,might put a vid up showing the progress, typing this at 22:00 and yes you need to adjust the knob on the side of the gun which adjusts the fan
You should have a fluid control nob as well to control the amount of paint and you could do with the air cap being top n bottom for spraying side to side, releasing the trigger after each pass . Good paint that stuff , get enough coats on with a wetflat inbetween and it polishes up to a mirror finish . Looking good mate .
Cheers Mate. that was set to half. Just checked. I litteraly just used the Spray gun from out the box. As well as fixing the imperfections, Ill give it a rub over with wetflat to knock off the rough bits. Probably going to use Hardtop XP now as the HB has too much of a Matt finish.
Your being to hard on your self this always happens with the first coat....now you know what ya have to do.. be well.
Thanks Mate.
now at the end and yes its alot more work than can be imagined , keep up the good wrk,it'll be worth it in the end,i cant wait t get mine out on the thames ,where are you located? was the compressor up to the job ? i have a twin piston compressor that if your near enough your more than welcome to borrow it
Thanks mate, based up in peterborough. The little compressor coped better than I thought. Once i get it finnished, can trailer it down to test out the estruary.
Absolutely love the project. I’m going to do the same thing on my boat list a little different design
Thanks Gavin. Put in on you tube, be good to follow it.
good job 😃
Thanks Yassine
