Awww yes, and Puddin has his good days and bad … sometimes he runs around like a lunatic and then a couple of days later he can’t walk from one end of the boat to the other without falling over …. But as long as he is happy ❤️

LOL! at the two of you dancing by the side of the boat ... I really did laugh out loud. The two or you are scrumptious. Mom is lovely, beautiful too. :-) She's old enough to know stuff, I like that. The hoses off the side are a great idea! Yep, gotta take care of your boat ... and she'll take care of you. Wow, Jaks is brilliant at calligraphy. LOL, kiss kiss. 🙂

Thank you so much for your lovely comment again John 😃 it was hard work, but I’m glad it’s all done now 😂 We took lots of advice and especially from the Dry dock themselves and they were fantastic and also on hand to check everything we were doing, as they were blacking the boat next to us, so we felt confident having them around 😃 I’m still aching now 😂 and yes you are right about the bottom, even if some of it scrapes off, the bits of paint left in them pits will stay there and it was quite easy to get underneath at the Northwich Dry dock, I’ve never been able to get under at all the other ones I’ve been at 😃😃🏴☠️

Always a big job for sure! Here on Canada`s west coast we usually "dry up" during the full or new moon phase that create the highest & lowest tides for chores like a paint job &/or changing zincs. If further repairs are needed then a "ways" must be sought out. Otherwise, one is limited to a handful of hours at best on a "grid". Tie-up lines must be adjusted constantly until keel is on the beams w/slight list against the pier. Barnacles & other sea growth make it a necessary task at least couple times@year, even goes for small boats like skiffs. Love the lifestyle!

Just happened to see this 2 years after posting and just after I had watched some video of the battleship New Jersey going in dry dock. Pretty much the same thing. Maybe a few more buckets of primer.

Just found your channel, I once walked the Oxford canal from Oxford to my hometown of Rugby. Was bored to death, not the life for me...I've lived in NYC for over 30 years. But I enjoy following your adventures and love and will use your word Twunt.
We just did the bottom the the boss’s 65’ Viking and his 50’ sail boat, (I’m the captain) there was four of us doing the work, we didn’t do both boats together but one week apart, we sanded both hulls, epoxied all the under water metal parts, then anti fouled both. It was hard work, dirty, filthy, nasty, and hot! ☀️🔥🥵 so I certainly know what’s involved in dry docking a boat!

Dear Heidi Thank you for providing me with some precious memories of my home and its beautiful canal system I'm originally from Kidsgrove but spent my previous years around Scholar Green, Rode Heath and the Red Bull wharf and pub I've lived in the U.S. for twenty five years now and I was fortunate to have a friend who owned a narrowboat which he moored at Redbull when not travelling. What a fantastic informative volg. Thank you so much. We live on a Dutch barge and had it out last year. We had the whole bottom replaced (shes 120 years old!) We also used 2 pak but where we have difficulty getting the ol’ girl out of the water, she had 5 coats of undercoat and 5 of top coat. (All the yards that used to take boats out around here seem to be closing down, they’re as rare as hens teeth!). During the welding we had 3 fires on board (one of them quite serious) but were SO glad we got it all done. We’ve got to look after our old girls haven’t we! Thanks once again for the work you do on the vlog. XX

The music you make and use on the videos is really good you are very talented. Watching the antifouling brought back memories of my last 30 years of antifouling jobs I have done and the worst bits having to lie on your back to do the underneath and keel. You did a great job.
Hello Heidi - greetings from Poland Dry Dock Day. I've been in this dry dock before with Robbie Cumming and his narrowboat "Naughty Lass" on 1st May 2021. You three ladies did a brilliant job despite the breaks because of the terrible weather. Fabulous finished job. Bravo! I liked Jacquies technical explanation about the paints. I noticed on the wall behind her, lots of initials had been carved into the stonework. Graffiti or stone masons marks? Superb drone shots of where you were. And all those different boats - some must be museum pieces. Love the boat sign on the wall. A fantasic video, great camera work and lovely commentary. Stay safe please

Great vlog with plenty of good blacking ideas for other bods to consider. I like the use of the aluminium paint which should in theory act as a seal and prevent rust. The cost of the paint was expensive, but should give you a longer in-water time i.e. 5 years plus, as against the usual 2-3 years for comastic type applications. Long may the 'Rum Wench' and its crew sail the inland waterways :)
Thanks Mark, I’m going to get her out again in 3 years though to check her over, as the problem with the canals lately is I often hit trolleys, bikes and various other bits of crap thrown in and the canals seem to be getting shallower and shallower 😂😂 if she still looks good I will leave it longer the next time 😃😃

Excellent informative video. Some great people run that dry dock. That big boat that was above the dry dock is the sister of one that I used to work carrying grain from Liverpool to Frodsham. Folks forget the waterways were built to transport stuff.
some kind of big tarp covering the boats would seem like a good idea and while u could rig it up yourself I'm surprised the folks renting out the dry-dock don't have some kind of system to keep the rain off. I mean it does rain a lot in England I'm told and it wouldn't be to hard or expensive to organize a roof of some kind. Something as simple as a large tarp held up by the crane gantry with the water running off down either side would keep it dry enough for work to continue as it rained or even build a permanent structure that can be easily removed or opened when not needed.
The problem is there Adam, is it’s a bit of a wind tunnel, plus as liveaboards we had our fire going so the chimney was on… I know quite a few dry docks that won’t let you live on while blacking so that’s probably why 😃🏴☠️
@@ghost307 still think that with boats needing blacking so often and the fact that it rains so much around there some kind of undercover facility or way to cover the boat would be a real time (and therefore money) saver, but what do I know I'm down here in the Pacific where we play in the sea ;). Canal boats do seem very relaxed n laid back, very appealing (except 4 that rain).

Great job, girls 👍. Ours is coming out of the water for blacking next spring, but we’re having to be hauled out up a slipway because there’s no dry dock facilities on the Chesterfield canal. We won’t be staying on board either as the only way on and off is via a step ladder and getting the dog up and down wouldn’t really be safe - or comfortable for either her or us. She’s a whoppet with long, skinny legs, so it would be like carting a giant preying mantis about! We’ll stay in the folding caravan that we bought instead.
Are you doing it yourselves ? Or going on a folding caravan adventure ? 😃😃🏴☠️ we have steps but still had to carry old Puddin down them 😂 haha it was hard work and we still aching now 😂😂

Lol! Subtle. I believe when Walt Disney was a kid, his father brought home some tar to fix the roof, and Walt thought it was paint. Since drawing/art supplies were in short supply, he figured it wouldn't matter if he drew something on the side of the house if they were just going to paint over it... so he painted a pig in tar on the side of the house...

We just did the bottom the the boss’s 65’ Viking and his 50’ sail boat, (I’m the captain) there was four of us doing the work, we didn’t do both boats together but one week apart, we sanded both hulls, epoxied all the under water metal parts, then anti fouled both. It was hard work, dirty, filthy, nasty, and hot! ☀️🔥🥵 so I certainly know what’s involved in dry docking a boat!

What a fantastic informative volg. Thank you so much. We live on a Dutch barge and had it out last year. We had the whole bottom replaced (shes 120 years old!) We also used 2 pak but where we have difficulty getting the ol’ girl out of the water, she had 5 coats of undercoat and 5 of top coat. (All the yards that used to take boats out around here seem to be closing down, they’re as rare as hens teeth!). During the welding we had 3 fires on board (one of them quite serious) but were SO glad we got it all done. We’ve got to look after our old girls haven’t we! Thanks once again for the work you do on the vlog. XX

Dry Dock Day. I've been in this dry dock before with Robbie Cumming and his narrowboat "Naughty Lass" on 1st May 2021.
You three ladies did a brilliant job despite the breaks because of the terrible weather. Fabulous finished job. Bravo!
I liked Jacquies technical explanation about the paints. I noticed on the wall behind her, lots of initials had been carved into the stonework. Graffiti or stone masons marks?
Superb drone shots of where you were. And all those different boats - some must be museum pieces. Love the boat sign on the wall.

Great vlog with plenty of good blacking ideas for other bods to consider. I like the use of the aluminium paint which should in theory act as a seal and prevent rust. The cost of the paint was expensive, but should give you a longer in-water time i.e. 5 years plus, as against the usual 2-3 years for comastic type applications. Long may the 'Rum Wench' and its crew sail the inland waterways :)
Thanks Mark, I’m going to get her out again in 3 years though to check her over, as the problem with the canals lately is I often hit trolleys, bikes and various other bits of crap thrown in and the canals seem to be getting shallower and shallower 😂😂 if she still looks good I will leave it longer the next time 😃😃

Excellent informative video. Some great people run that dry dock. That big boat that was above the dry dock is the sister of one that I used to work carrying grain from Liverpool to Frodsham. Folks forget the waterways were built to transport stuff.

some kind of big tarp covering the boats would seem like a good idea and while u could rig it up yourself I'm surprised the folks renting out the dry-dock don't have some kind of system to keep the rain off. I mean it does rain a lot in England I'm told and it wouldn't be to hard or expensive to organize a roof of some kind. Something as simple as a large tarp held up by the crane gantry with the water running off down either side would keep it dry enough for work to continue as it rained or even build a permanent structure that can be easily removed or opened when not needed.
The problem is there Adam, is it’s a bit of a wind tunnel, plus as liveaboards we had our fire going so the chimney was on… I know quite a few dry docks that won’t let you live on while blacking so that’s probably why 😃🏴☠️
You could probably clean and prep the surface under a 'roof' but when it's raining the humidity is usually too high to get the paint to cure properly.
@@ghost307 still think that with boats needing blacking so often and the fact that it rains so much around there some kind of undercover facility or way to cover the boat would be a real time (and therefore money) saver, but what do I know I'm down here in the Pacific where we play in the sea ;). Canal boats do seem very relaxed n laid back, very appealing (except 4 that rain).
I really love your written commentary on this vlog. Wondering about the bottom blacking, I've watched many narrow boat videos showing what was done without doing bottom. Just curious. Keep up your wonderful vlogs.

Great job, girls 👍. Ours is coming out of the water for blacking next spring, but we’re having to be hauled out up a slipway because there’s no dry dock facilities on the Chesterfield canal. We won’t be staying on board either as the only way on and off is via a step ladder and getting the dog up and down wouldn’t really be safe - or comfortable for either her or us. She’s a whoppet with long, skinny legs, so it would be like carting a giant preying mantis about! We’ll stay in the folding caravan that we bought instead.
Are you doing it yourselves ? Or going on a folding caravan adventure ? 😃😃🏴☠️ we have steps but still had to carry old Puddin down them 😂 haha it was hard work and we still aching now 😂😂

Lol! Subtle. I believe when Walt Disney was a kid, his father brought home some tar to fix the roof, and Walt thought it was paint. Since drawing/art supplies were in short supply, he figured it wouldn't matter if he drew something on the side of the house if they were just going to paint over it... so he painted a pig in tar on the side of the house...
