Hi. Im documenting my journey on rebuilding a Small Fishing Boat using my own experience and knowledge plus that gained from ship builders and many an hour spent on UA-cam :-) . I'm not a professional mechanic or boat builder so anything i post is purely for entertainment purposes. I may include a few other projects i get involved in too.
The whole purpose of my videos will be looking back in years to come and for my kids to see their old man making a fool of himself. :-)

Boat Tested in Choppy Sea State - Gentle Throttle Control
Переглядів 1037 місяців тому
Arranged to go out with forecast being below 10mph staying pretty even all day. Wind against ebbing tide in a river system ended up causing bigger swells than forecasted. Got fishing ground only to find we had to make our way back. Constant & Gentle throttle control all the way into more sheltered areas! Good test for boat though and she was more than capable.

Small Sea Boat Equipment Set up - For Novice Boaters
Переглядів 411Рік тому
Before setting out to sea in your small boat, you should have the basics as the sea may be fantastic, but it takes no prisoners. In the UK think about getting a RYA powerboat level 2 certificate, this can sometimes be a requirement for most insurers. You will also need to get your VHF radio licence before you can use a VHF radio. Extremely important life saving peice of equipment. I dont cover ...

How did you get the exha u st grommet in the 50hp
Hi just started watching your videos will be starting my own boat again soon as I had bad advice so need to redo some work can you tell me the overall length of yours please
HI mate, the boat length is 18ft. only just had the comment pop up so didnt see it prior.
Im currently renovating the same type of boat. I noticed the foam filled in all the chanels, do you not need drainage channels under the deck?
hi mate, i decided to completely seal all the underside so no water could get in each of the channels. i was going to put an inspection window in towards the transom area for any condensation that may or may not build up. once i sealed all the individual stringers and floation cells, I sealed the deck too so underneith it is also a complete cell. chose not to have a bung too. send some pics or vid of your project.
Installed 3-4 inch from the edge of the boat in and 8-15 inch from the center of the transome out is what I can recall.
They are a good addition to the boat and the instructions were decent along with pics of other installs. Your kayak set up looks excellent, there is not much you couldnt do with that. :-)
Looking forward to seeing more videos or even seeing you out on the Humber, by boat is called Kandahar, give me a shout if you see me 😊
hi mate, definetly will do mate. (just seen the comment). I am putting a windlass on at the moment as using an alderney ring when so many boats are around is not that easy. New AIS coming on the 25th may as my last one gave out a DSC call whilst in the dock!! after that ill be all set.
First 👍😃
How did your compressor get on? I have literally been searching for ages for a cheaper set up to work on my boat project and spray it when the time comes, literally just bought a massive compressor 3 days ago for my boat work was fed up of Searching and everything had cfm outputs too low 🙄 I want to spray mine. I have a very long way to go yet but will be following your channel might get some inspiration. I am doing a full rebuild / restoration . Thanks for taking the time to do these videos.
hi mate, just seen the comment. my compressor did really well and was only a small one. It did struggle on occassion but didnt hinder the finish. Get some vids of your project up on youtube. good to look back on.
good video I have my evinrude etec 90 hp that the trim is lowered only that it is failing
Hi, thanks for the feedback.. could be air in the system or springs in the little gromets at the bottom of the cylinder missing on one side. Worth looking at the oil first.
My kinda ASMR
Love how ill happily strip anything down on a car but always tentative when it comes to bodywork for some reason 😂
How much thinner How much cat And then how much the glue??
hi mate, here is the data sheet with all the info you need file:///C:/Users/jfoster/Downloads/AG%C2%A43140%C2%A4Hardtop%20XP%C2%A4Euk%C2%A4GB.pdf
good to see you back with an update on your boat pity you have to sell it. its looking great hope you get what your asking fot it ,, looks the buisness now hope, to see you on your new venture
Thanks Sandy and i have already decided to keep the boat lol. I cant part with it but will be putting her in the water in Feb with a New Engine. Its been a bit of a roller coaster deciding the best way.. Plus i need to actually take it out fishing.
What sprayer do you use ? Is that hvlp gun ?
Hi Mate, just one that came with the compressor. The most basic of basic but works well.
WHERE DO I GET THE KIT
HI, It depends where you are based. in the UK you can get them off ebay. in the states you can use marineengine.com using your engine number. here is the link for ebay which is close to the one www.ebay.co.uk/itm/313947156567?chn=ps&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3A10HHFbp6uQTW75gXvh93tUQ60&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=313947156567&targetid=1816181028659&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=1006984&poi=&campaignid=18524307571&mkgroupid=140763006383&rlsatarget=pla-1816181028659&abcId=9302158&merchantid=659324438&gclid=Cj0KCQiA1NebBhDDARIsAANiDD1WW3kxwNhpgKUu5upqJ3lQ215CXK__UTn8FxG3OJtXKCQmVPBPR_caArBkEALw_wcB
@@allkindsaprojects thanks
Proper video warts and all so you know what to look out for, and he didn’t talk shit the whole time and play crap music, your a top man fella, thank you
Thanks mate, only just got back on line after a long while off. just seen the comment.
Explain what you are unclippng please xxxxx
It is a good video - but I am a noob so just "unclipping" 10 years of knowkowledge totally threw me off the ball - for that reason 1 - 10 :) x
sorry for the late reply, i have been off line for a bit. let me know the time into the video where i was talking about unclipping and ill let you know once i have checked.
Doing this job right now... Can't get the new ones installed properly as I cannot figure out how to get the whole strut to stop spinning as I tighten the top mount bolt
sorry mate, just seen the comment after being off line for a while. i think i used a vice grip (mole grip) at the top of the shaft. although i used new struts so it was easier
Great Video. I replaced my trim motor on my johnson 50hp. I topped up & bled the system but it doesn't go down with the weight of the engine on it. If I bench test it without the weight of the engine it goes up and down fine. It's not electrical related as I connected it directly to a battery. Have any idea what may be causing this? Thanks
Hi Mate. a few things to look at on this one. If it goes down without the weight of the engine but not when you have the engine on it, i would check the simple things first like the manual stopper that holds the engine up. This might be loose and falling back into lock position as soon as the engine is high enough. If its all clear of obstructions, then its worth going through the proces of filling to try and get more oil in or maybe lose some. Raise the engine and lock with manual lock lever, Remove the bottom long pin that holds the whole mechanism in place. once its swings out, you can get to the bleed screw, remove this and the level of the oil should be level with the fill hole. it also allows any air that has worked its way out to be released. you may have over filled it. If that has not worked, you may have replaced the bottom valves the wrong way around. in my video, i didnt have a spring for one side which means it lets the oil out but without the spring, the oil runs back into the cylinder which measn my engine can lift when im in reverse. Ill need to get one. Bit of a long reply but hope it helps. here is a link showing the assembly. Its the poppet shown starting with part numbers 13 www.crowleymarine.com/johnson-evinrude/parts/49446.cfm?mdl=DYXMV9
Woo hoo!!! That’s great news….
That’s all we get??? Congrats 🎈🍾
great to see the progress, and so nearly finished
I bought a Pacific 550 and your videos have helped me greatly in refurbishing mine. I have no windows frames so not sure how to make them for the perspex glass. I see some had aluminium frames. do you have any old frames left or a pattern I can take?
Hi Matt, I remember putting them behind my shed but i have a horrible feeling i had a clear out a year or so ago. ill have a look and let you know.
Hi Matt, i looked and only have the perspex windows but not the aluminium frames.
Thank you for looking
Hi what was the part numbers you used for the thermostat rebuild please ??
HI Dave, I used my engine number either E50RNLIB adn E50RNLIA www.marineengine.com/newparts/part_details.php?pnum=OMC0332944
I’m sorry to tell you this but the way you did this fiberglass will look good and strong to start with but will shortly turn loose from the wood due to the resin not soaking into the wood and make it a dry air pocket almost completely under the cloth. I just watched some testing being done on this subject by Andy at boat works today. He done it to prove that you can’t do it this way and it was easily pulled apart after completely drying. You need to always apply resin before and allow it to soak into the wood before applying the cloth. Hope you don’t have problems down the road.
Hi, thanks for the comment, i saw that too but as this was only to hold the auxillary engine and not part of the boat, it can be easily replaced. I also dont like to use cloth straight onto the wood as i dont think its as strong as strand matting first and then cloth. You can see i wasnt too precious about it. Final note is if you watch back at previous videos, i use a diluted resin mix first to soak into the wood before glassing up. Many thanks. john.
very interesting I hope you always inspire
Thank you for sharing! Love your content, keep up the great work, amazing video. Have great day!!
Thank you! You too!
I am wondering do you have to rotate the bushing rubber axle to specific angle because you did not mark old one direction. Otherwise great job.
Any more updates? I just bought the same boat, want to replace the stringers and beams, not sure about taking the roof off though, that seems a little extreme! Why did you choose to do that by the way? Where are you up to now?
hi mate, im just about to get ready for sea and arranging moorings. been so busy but will be updating soon. I wanted to make the deck bigger as the sea safe is all cabin which i dont need other than for storage.
@@allkindsaprojects sweet i was just wondering the same thing, looking forward to vid mate
I have 19 89 50 horsepower Evinrude it looks same as yours do you know how to add fluid when I open the bottom plug it all comes out that's the only plug I see. Help
Hi mate, you need to take the bottom large pin out if its on your engine and its on the side. i was sure this video shows me filling it up. its a bit fiddly. i will do an upload soon which includes it. i have been so busy i need to get back on it.
@@allkindsaprojects Thanks I figured it out but thanks for replying I appreciate your time and your videos
Can you advise what size drag link socket you used?
hi mate, i just chose the one i thought would fit and tried a couple. it doesnt have a size on it though.
Mine says 11/16". Fits like a glove.
That's interesting. I'm planning to fiberglass a plastic box just like you did. I just wanted to ask you why did you cover the box with plastic bags before fiberglassing it?
Hi, i used plastic to allow me to release it from the mould. Only issue i had with plastic was the bubbles which gave mad ridges to sand out. if i made another one, i would use spay adhesive to stick the plastic to the wood and flatten it out. good luck with your cover box.
Looks good, ya saved her.... be well.
Great video; what is the torque setting for the piston rod nut? I think that your spanner wrench build for the cap was a fantastic idea.
many thanks. Ill have to check my manual as forgot the torque setting.
Going to do my trailer soon thanks for the vid👍
Hi mate, just come across your vids, very interesting. I'm doing more or less the same thing with a Birchwood boat 18ft cathedral Hull. Mines in the water so a bit trickier to do, but getting there. Yours is looking great. 👍
Thanks mate. There is so much to do when you take them back to basics I was so pleased to have it out of the water. Be good to see some pics of yours.
Nice color blue...............be well.
thats really coming along,looks great
Getting there.
paint jobs looking good
Thanks Sandy. needs a good buff now
Hi, how long did it take to rebuild?
About 30 minutes if it all comes apart easy and relatively clean. I had a couple that were gunked up and took about 2 hours.
@@allkindsaprojects thanks
Thumbs up as always...........be well.
I have the exact boat … still with the roof!!
I own a pacific just like your boat . Its a Deluxe model'78 . Try to keep her original , with my own improvements. A lot of owners rebuild them in their own way. I like watching your progress and want to see your boat finished. Its a lot of work , will be great! I,m working staedy on my boat for over 35 years. Greetings from Netherlands.
Hi John. Thanks for your comments. I have been doing the boat for a couple of years now and there has always been something extra i have needed to do. I would love to see some pics of your boat, sounds like you had her from new. Ill hopefully have mine finished this year. Good to have you join the channel.
@@allkindsaprojects , i have a lot of pictures from our boat. Have to find out how to send a couple. She used to be orange with weak transom. New wood. Also in the roof , new beams. And bottom has been reinforced. I am a boatbuilder , working with fiberglass. My boss is a great sponsor. That helps a lot. Get you some pictures soon.
Beautiful job on patching the holes
Thanks 👍
Better to find All the holes n fix them now.. it's only fiberglass work easy job but a pain is the ass working on your back.... be well.
Copy that - I think thats what got to me, having to grind and glass upside down. Im interested to see whats under those patches though.
@@allkindsaprojects , I would want to know too.... You have gone this far gotta find out.. good luck..
Season stainless steel staples excellent idea
Like your vision
So far I am loving this series of videos
Thanks for joining the channel Lee.
im at 7:43 and ask when do you notice the switchs are upside down
im might be wrong ,my voltage meter is on the bottom
Definately on the right way up but all the others i looked at were the opposite way round when i went back to check how the switches were wired up. Must have had a one off.
give this man a like guys
