The Expanse - Anderson Dawes Boards The Roci

- A quite excellent scene, where we see the superb acting qualities of Jared Harris, who I have personally been a fan of for quite some time.
I was particularly impressed with Jared on "To the Ends of the Earth" a BBC 3 part mini series adaptation of William Golding's sea trilogy. A must see for anyone interested in exploring Jared's other work.

As UA-cam terminated my last channel due to copyright strikes, I'm having to start from scratch. However, I will be uploading a mixture of content, from new original work, new show clips as well as previous uploads from my last channel. I hope it is of interest to you all.
For material from The Expanse in addition to this UA-cam channel, please visit my Vimeo channel for content which due to copyright restrictions, didn't make it to this UA-cam channel. All Season 4 content particularly suffered from this and I am now unable to upload Season 4 material. So all Season 4 clips have now moved to my Vimeo Channel.

I love this scene. Dawes knew everything before he stepped aboard the ship. He just wanted to look them in the eyes to be sure
“ I don’t think the Martians will give you one”
“Well maybe not me….”
Marcos.
Jared Harris' Anderson Dawes is such a bad-ass. Playing chess while Holden playing checkers.
“Legitimate salvage.”
“It most certainly is.”
I love it.
I'm surprised Dawes didn't make a move to grab The Roci :)
@@speculativefuture9568 The Roci, badass as she is, is just one ship. It's not a game-changer in itself. Which is why Dawes used his resources to take Cortazar instead. Having that kind of resource, that insight into the protomolecule, is far more valuable a resource in the game that Dawes is playing.
I really hope they'll bring Jared Harris back for the final season, although Anderson Dawes doesn't play a major part in the books xD
He and David Strathairn had the best belter accents ever :D
I couldn't agree more. We were so lucky to have both those legends on our beloved show.
@@speculativefuture9568 "now that is a story"..Daws didn't go for the Roci cause it's just one ship, he needs more, and he knows it, and that's how we get to s6 Daws, who runs Ceres, and after Fred died, Medina alone by himself, but he joined the Free Navy, for now, cause they have MORE SHIPS 😉
Sadly, Dawes was done dirty... his death written off in a single line of dialogue from Marco Inaros...basically when he was on Ceres Station like, "oh yeah, I killed that guy". Terrible writing from the TV staff. It does a complete disservice to Jared Harris and his performance as Dawes.
I'm noticing a twinge of estuary English in that accent, particularly in the "a" vowels.
@@stevenlamb8726 It's not terrible writing. Harris was busy shooting Foundation and they didn't want to bother him with flying in for a few hours of shooting that would eventually get cut anyways because Amazon only greenlit 6 episodes for the final season. Not their fault at all.
I once had a boss that was very much like Dawes. If you ever get one of those bosses, treasure it.
Me too. One of those rare people you’ll never forget.
"Good and bad, don't get distracted by that. It will just confuse you". So true for this story, characters and motivations are so layered that no one is truly bad or good, just pursuing what they believe to be the right path for their people...Except Marco Inaros, that is one self-righteous, sinister, lucky MFer
Marco was def a more clearly explicit narcissist
I’m sure Sadavir and avasarala have some narcissism but Marcos is shamelessly ruled by is
His cause is a means to power, and as effective as a leader he is, even his own son saw in the end it wasn’t about the belt
The other opa leaders were more ideologically motivated. Ideology was secondary to Marcos’s militarism
as opposed to the careful neutrality of holden in this scene, and in general. Holden is the most self righteous prick in the entire expanse universe.
🤣@@Flutok
It's a shame they didn't do more with him. Right here he called what was going to happen. He said any weapon Fred has is vulnerable. Marco later took advantage of the vulnerability and stole that weapon.
I would have loved to see him have a showdown on Cerces with Marco and kick him out.
1:42 - Dawes schooling Holden.
Watching this in a localized dubbed version doesnt give jared harris enough credit for his phenomenal acting. This is superphenomenal acting in my book, beltalowda.
Yep - he takes over every scene he's in.
Dawes seems like he could be a good leader. He should start a foundation or something...
Yeah like that comment 😂....my favourite Sci-fi books, by my favourite Sci-fi author Asimov ❤
amazing scene and amazing acting
Oh shit he just told Holden that he reminded him of Miller who Holden is trying desperately to not be like
Dawes was so much better than the one-dimensional final season villain, what's-his-name.
True
Just watched S6E1. So apparently They killed Dawes offscreen (i.e. they couldn’t pay Jared Harris/get his schedule worked out).
I wish they just made him a fugitive instead :(
I was trying to figure out where he went - that sucks!
Yeah, they expanded Dawes' role relative to the books because Harris was so damn good, but unfortunately that very skill meant he was soon in high demand (especially after he did Chernobyl). Like how Havelock was meant to return but by the time they adapted that story the actor was off doing Magnum PI.
I don't like it, but I get that they figured they might as well draw a line under the character for good, if they weren't going to be able to use him anymore, especially as more and situations came along that realistically Dawes would care about very deeply.
@@JamesTobiasStewart Yeah, that's what I heard from the podcast ... schedule conflicts made him unavailable.
2:54 I'm assuming he's talking about miller but can anyone confirm?
Yeah he's talking about Miller, he's the only character known for his hat and it's the only important character Dawes interacted with before.
Of course, but James Holden could not understand because he never saw miller with a hat.
@@Emmajic Julie Mao
@@rememberthecant7692 He does see him with it in his visions of Miller though. Maybe he remembers this conversation then.
Miller was the best part of this show.
Interesting how the entire time he’s talking to Holden his attention is fixed on Naomi, especially when he is talking about stories. Maybe he knows about Filip?
He may or may not know about Philip, but he knows who Naomi is and what her ideals are.
The best part about this scene is that Dawes is absolutely right. It was vulnerable, and the people who took it were significantly shittier than he ever was.
It's Hari Seldon :)
I don't have Apple TV so wasn't able to watch Foundation. But I did listen to the Foundation books on tape - found it rather dry - but Jared Harris fits what I would have envisioned.
Holden takes himself so very seriously. It got tiresome at some point.
By the last season he dropped all that. He grew.
@@myflatlineconstruct Sooorta
I agree. In a way, I find Holden the weakest of the main cast. I liked Amos and Alex the best but Alex got himself written out 6th season for harassing women. Shame cause I would have like to see his character continued. In the books he continues beyond book six.
@@riogrande5761 Ya. Holden is "strong" as in brave and decisive, but weak as in one-note, predictable and stiff. And he transformed into that from an apparently dissolute slacker in the first three episodes of S1, and then stayed that way.
@@Bapuji42 He's the foil to the other crew. The boring one to let the others shine. I agree it's tough sometimes with the amount of screen time.
Eith so many superb actors and characters its a shame some of the main ones are fairly dull and unoriginal :/
That makes it realistic. When mere plods trip over power lines, the raptors start paying attention. Bad dramas are when everybody is a bloody drama queen.
@@blackletter2591 no, they arent realistic they are overacted onedimensional and predictable.
Anyway, finished the show yesterday and loved it so weird timing on your reply 😃
The quality in production, lighting, filming, acting basically everything 10 fold higher than what we were served in season 6 which imho was so so poor, such a shame aswell! This is an amazing scene with so much suspense and mystery.
It will never happen but I would love to see Season 6 remade with Alex Kamal and then continued 7, 8 and 9
