From MTV and the NY Daly News circa 2008: "I have to thank Burger King," said Downey in the Daily News article. "It was such a disgusting burger I ordered. I had that, and this big soda, and I thought something really bad was going to happen." The actor then said that at that moment of clarity, he tossed all of the drugs in his car into the ocean and got cleaned up, claiming that the "American cheeseburger" scene from "Iron Man" was a special tribute to Burger King saving his life.
Phase I is unmatched, although all the problems that increased which each phase were definitely apparent in phase 1. Can you imagine how big the MCU would be presently if they put as much thought and care into the films now as they put into those films in phase I ( iron man 2 not withstanding ) when they were kind of making it up as they went along?
Robert Downey Junior as Tony Stark saying "Lets face it, this is not the worst thing you've caught me doing" is also a cute reference to Downey's real-world problems with drugs and alcohol that largely destroyed his career as a young man. His getting cast as Tony Stark was a masterful MIRACLE for his career.
Let's face it, without Robert Downey Jr & this film "catching lightning in a bottle" there NEVER would have BEEN an MCU! Love it to this day & love watching people's reactions to it.
I probably never would have watched any of the MCU movies if I wasn't already a fan of Robert Downey Jr. My brother convinced me to watch it in theaters by simply dropping his name. Became fully hooked when he escaped the cave. I still didn't watch all of the Marvel movies that came out, but always the ones my comic loving brother said I'd like.
The "I am Ironman" at the very end was improvised by Robert Downey Jr but they loved the idea of it so much (and it perfectly fits Tony's personality) that they decided to go with it and see which way it goes. To me, THIS movie is when the MCU really got started, even though _Hulk_ is considered the real beginning.
Nah, the plan was from the beginning to have an entire MCU. First Iron Man was testing the waters to see if there is a large enough audience for superhero movies. MCU only really became a thing bc the first Iron Man was such a success. At that time it was one of the best selling movies of all time. MCU happened bc of Iron Man.
Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk were being produced at the same time. They came out the same year only a couple months apart. The studio wasn’t confident in Iron Man because general audiences weren’t familiar with the character. They thought Hulk would be their safety blanket. Ironically Iron Man was a hit, and Hulk bombed.
@@edim108 I mean, it has some basis unlike modern studio decisions. Hulk was a big character, while Iron Man , in terms of popularity wasn't really that big.
14:24 Just assume that everyone in a superhero movie is more durable than in real life. And the reason they had Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury is because in the Ultimate universe (separate universe from the main comics, it's a long story), the artists modeled Fury after him, on the condition that if there was ever a movie, he'd get the role.
11:40 Go ahead and say whatever pops into your mind. That's what we're all here for. We've seen the movie, your reaction is what we clicked on the video for. Don't apologize for that.
The iron man suit he made in the cave at the beginning of the movie is the original Iron Man Stan Lee made back in the beginning of Iron Man. That’s how it originally looked. It’s a throw back to the OG suit.
7:26 THIS! In the comics and the MCU movies Tony is basically one of the most intelligent people in the universe. He's a genius with equals counted on the fingers of one hand.
A dirty martini is when a little bit of olive brine is added. No other changes to the Martini. The normal recipe is simple, and it stays simple even when you get it dirty. Gin or Vodka + vermouth (a fortified wine), and either an olive or a lemon peel as garnish - and when it's ordered dirty, a touch of olive brine.
This popped up in my recommends and I’m here to go through this journey with you. Marvel is such a great franchise- I mean, I won’t lie that they do have some tragic misses but those are extremely rare. Everyone who delves into the Marvel Cinematic Universe finds something to enjoy about it, whether it’s a particular character or a storyline or a trilogy, I have yet to watch a reactor that does not end up becoming a die hard Marvel and or Superhero fan afterwards. It’s truly a joy to be able to sit back and enjoy someone else discovering a Movie franchise that I’ve loved for decades.
Dude. I love watching your reactions to these marvel movies. You're so happy watching it. Reminds me of when I first started them. Please keep them going!
As a huge MCU from day 1, this movie is still one of the best. I'm so happy to see you loving it! It's like when I first watched you react to Metallica, who happens to be my all time favorite band!😁
You're having a lot of disbelief during the movie which is normal but there's this thing called "Suspension of disbelief" that you'll need to activate within yourself, to a degree, to get past all the nitpicky stuff.
I think it's great to wonder why something is the way it is. Tony not getting injured by any of the massive kinetic impacts he endures (falling from the sky in mk1, hitting a fighter jet midflight clipping its wing off, or getting slammed into the ceiling trying a flight test with 10x the proper thrusters) with and without the suit is slightly weird as he's supposed to be just a guy. Like, maybe there's a specific reason to why he's not getting injured (there isn't in this case but maybe there is with other supers).
@Miguel Garay Of course. Such explanations are great to have. However, he fell from the sky in the mk1 suit which also fell into pieces. I know kinetic impacts are always exaggerated in movies, but I don't really think they should be. Not for characters who are supposed to be human.
Your music reactions have always been great, so this series is gonna slap. Iron Man is a very special movie, in that it was such a huge risk. The character was a 3rd tier Marvel character that nobody really was interested in. Relatively new director Jon Favreau staked his career on Robert Downey Jr to do the role. The studio was big time nervous because this was right when Downey was at the bottom of his struggles and coming back from various addictions. If this movie failed, there's probably no MCU at all. Luckily, they pulled it off, Downey WAS Tony Stark, and the rest is history. Oh, btw, check out the play list for music that Downey used for Stark... tons of sick rock from the 80s. The song you wondered about when you said "what's he jamming?" was Suicidal Tendencies, Institutional IMPORTANT NOTE: remember the cheeseburger
the fact that this movie had no real script as Downey, Bridges, and Favreau were essentially writing new material literally the day before shooting a scene, and all of the improv that went into this film made it feel very organic and genuine.

A regular martini is made with gin and a splash of vermouth (a very sweet, flavoring liquor, not meant to be drunk on its own...sort of a liquor condiment). A 'dry' martini is made using much less vermouth. A 'dirty' martini is made with gin, and olive brine instead of vermouth. Some people prefer a vodka martini, with vodka used insted of gin.
great explanation! When I used to drink I was one of the vodka martini crowd. Favorite was using frangelico instead of vermouth with a twist of lemon. Manhattan with extra bitters was as savory as i ever got.
Your skepticism about how Stark would avoid injury is pretty solidly based in reality. The thing is, these movies don't use real-world physics, they use comic-book physics. The number one rule of comic-book physics is, "The Rule of Cool." If it's cool, it works. The human parts of the stories are what make these movies work, not the rubber science. That's what I was going to say! And when you come right down to it, Iron Man is one of the least comic-book-physics-y characters in the MCU. It's pretty close to plausible. Armor is real. Flying jet-packs to fly. Some really high-tech scanners and AI targeting for the weapons. All you need is the "repulsor rays" and a powerful enough and small enough battery. It's almost sorta-kinda realistic - especially compared to some of the other characters he'll meet later.
And at least any nitpicking is done with a great energy. I'm only jumping into these reactions now and I'm enjoying it so far. If he got emotional with Yinsen's passing, there's a massive rollercoaster ahead!

A dirty martini usually means to add a little bit of the brine from the olive jar, it gives it a salty vinegary taste with a rougher feeling when you swallow. Same thing can be done with drinks that use cucumbers, you can use pickles instead to make it dirty, and yes, pickle martinis are a thing. Also, the song you asked about was Institutionalized by Suicidal Tendencies. Pretty sure you already reviewed that song.

Just finished watching Iron Man for the first time and WOW. Didn't expect to be this blown away by a superhero movie. RDJ is Tony Stark, no one else could have played him. Also, that ending scene? 🤯 Marvel, you have my attention.
Tony drinks a lot in the movie but they never describe Tony having a serious drinking problem. Alcohol is enemy number 1 of Tony Stark in the original comic books
The place were ark reactor is ,is the heaviest armoured place . So the fire power that it attracts is not harmful. No one in that panic would try to shoot the eyes .
Mr. Clean. I see The Dude, a multiverse variant evil version where he took his Rubik's Cube fortune and invested in Stark Industries with plans of world domination.
Two things I love about the dialog in this movie: the speech the terrorists say on the ransom video literally says they are working for Obadiah. It's just not in English. Also, 90 some percent of the script was entirely ad-libbed on the spot. They had an outline of what they wanted and just let the actors go.
yo guys! i finally found this channel and saw almost every MCU reaction. but where is Iron Man 2? i was so hyped for his reaction on the last big battle scene ^^
wow I just realized that after you said this, like you said obviously this wasn't his first video he had to do something prior. The editing, and set up all point to that. I wonder if this video wouldve been deleted too since it isn't up to par with his recent quality, but he couldn't delete it because it was an important role in his majorital content... I wonder. Maybe something to do with what he does on his other channel etc.
The armor is most thick on Batman's bat symbol on his chest meanwhile Tony has no armor over his arch reactor which is keeping him alive. Why dose no villain ever target the shiny light on Iron Man's chest 🤔
Great reaction! The opening story of the creation of the Iron Man suit is lifted directly from the comics, though it was obviously updated from Vietnam War era to Desert War era. The same thing that happened to Yinsen also happened to the native person who was helping him in the Vietnam War era story, and it sucked. A dirty drink means extra alcohol. I've never had a drink in my life and I know that. :-p But I am much older than you, so...? :-D Admittedly, Howard Stark, Tony's dad, was a great inventor, a great scientist, and a great . . . well, he had a lot of great points to go along with his flaws. But, to support Obadiah's line, Howard Stark was NOT a good businessman because he had zero interest in running a business. That was Obadiah's strength and why Obadiah could say that he built this company up from nothing, which is true. And which is why Pepper is there as Tony's do-everything factotum: Tony is much like his dad: genius, inventor, scientist, but burns through money like it's nothing because he's an awful businessman. The Starks provided the materials but Obadiah is the one who made it into a successful business. And, with Obadiah gone, it'll fall to Pepper to keep that legacy going. Don't envy her for that either.
Actually, 'dirty' refers to adding a bit of the brine from the jar of cocktail olives, for a salty kick. Traditional martini ingredients are 2:1 gin and vermouth, or gin with a small drizzle of vermouth (dry) or a few drops of vermouth (extra dry), and some prefer vodka rather than gin. So other than finding a higher proof of gin or vodka, there isn't really a mechanism for adding extra alcohol (like, there's not a 'pure grain alcohol' ingredient). So 'dirty' can't mean that, and actually does mean adding some olive brine.
@@billparrish4385 Nice! I'll assume that's the appropriate definition, and thanks! All I knew was that when a friend of mine demanded a dirty mixed drink her husband would tell me that she meant for it to be mostly alcohol and very little mix. :-D
@@thatpatrickguy3446 No worries. I'm no drinker either, really, apart from the occasional taste out of curiosity. Never was able to see what all the fuss was about. But little details like that, once heard or read, all seem to end up in the old 'Star Wars trash compacter' upstairs. :)
@@thatpatrickguy3446 your friend's husband is sorely mistaken haha. I love my martinis dirty, which means extra olive brine (and sometimes extra olives too!). Sometimes I'll even order it "filthy" which is even more brine, or to add additional garnishes if there's other garnishes to add (cocktail onions, pickled garlic, etc). I've actually never heard of ordering a mixed drink as dirty, or even another type of martini (besides the classic one) as dirty.

It's good advice not to get too hung up on the real-world logistics of these movies. Hell, Tony Stark has a seemingly perpetual miniature battery stuck in his chest. We're stepping into the realm of comic book sci-fi and fantasy here. Best to just go with the flow and don't think too hard about it.
As far as I'm concerned, Yinsen's line to Stark, "Don't waste your life", is the heartbeat of the MCU

Wow this just came into my recommendation and man i love ur energy keep them reactions coming . And also y iron man is so special bcoz he could be any of us. My brother became a engineer after watching this movie
thank you for the that!
A multi billion dollar franchise kick started with a d list superhero nobody really cared about played by an actor everyone had forgotten about. Oh and directed by a guy who's biggest claim to fame was a guest spot on friends and a couple of indie movies with vince vaughn.
Starting this journey here can’t wait to watch you all these marvel movies I’m about to watch every marvel video you have posted so far😭
Ive been enjoying watching so many of your more recent reviews, ive had to go back to where this all began and start from the beginning. Let the binge watch begin!! 🎉
Hey Alex
Fun Fact for you:
The guy that Tony mistakes fir Hugh Hefner, that's Stan Lee, the man who was responsible for creating the vast majority of the marvel superheroes
Hey Alex!! I just found your channel a few days ago and I’m absolutely loving it!! I’m going through all your content and love your reactions! You were born to do this brother! Keep up the great work. Can’t wait to see what the future has in store for you. Wishing you and your family all the best my friend!! Merry Christmas!
Amazing how Jeff Bridges can pull off nastyass villain in this 1 and a lovable major stoner in The Big Lebowski. Grt actor.
Your channel came up today and omg…so excited for your marvel journey!!
just keeps going!
that guy is agent colsin from sheild. and a dirty martini had olive juice in it instead of just the olives in a normal one.
Well done on these. Keep em coming!!
To this day this movie remains in my top MCU movies, and Iron Man is my second favourite hero (behind Spider-Man) because of my love for this film.
Love it! Keep 'em comin'!
love you!
Can't believe how the quality of your videos has grown since this reaction. I mean the technical aspect.
Just finished watching Iron Man for the first time and WOW. Didn't expect to be this blown away by a superhero movie. RDJ is Tony Stark, no one else could have played him. Also, that ending scene? 🤯 Marvel, you have my attention.
I loved your music reactions and I am so happy to see your movie reaction channel. Good luck with it Alex!
thank you so much for coming over!
”Yanking your willis” had me dying!
The start of the goat ALEX!!!!
Two things I love about the dialog in this movie: the speech the terrorists say on the ransom video literally says they are working for Obadiah. It's just not in English. Also, 90 some percent of the script was entirely ad-libbed on the spot. They had an outline of what they wanted and just let the actors go.
love how butter fingers or his robot arm saved him and that tony owes him and will never get rid of him
Humble beginnings of the best and most popular series on his channel.
yo guys! i finally found this channel and saw almost every MCU reaction. but where is Iron Man 2? i was so hyped for his reaction on the last big battle scene ^^
It's still in his price channel for some reason.
as youtube-poops stated: TONY STARK WAS ABLE TO CRAP IN A CAVE!
So this is the first reaction huh? What was the channel about before blogs or something? Anyone?
wow I just realized that after you said this, like you said obviously this wasn't his first video he had to do something prior. The editing, and set up all point to that. I wonder if this video wouldve been deleted too since it isn't up to par with his recent quality, but he couldn't delete it because it was an important role in his majorital content... I wonder. Maybe something to do with what he does on his other channel etc.
What a great way to launch the MCU.
I remember watching that movie in cinema. I knew there and then that this was the beginning of something great.
7:27 this comment mirrors the “what are without your suit” dialogue in Avengers so well!
You NEED to watch Good Will Hunting if you haven't seen it already! One of my favorites and an absolutely amazing cast!
I’m pretty sure you need to enjoy it on your own for now since he’s focuses on the MCU. it’s not about you.
@@judeless77 He's actually made it very clear that he also wants to watch non-Marvel movies and I was just giving him a suggestion.
the scientist that Obadiah is talking to/yelling at is the actor that played Ralphie in A Christmas Story back in 1983
13:18 Cringing at Pepper reaching into Tony's chest while reaching into a bag of flat pretzel chips...
Dirty martini means that you have added olive juice (brine) to it.
The armor is most thick on Batman's bat symbol on his chest meanwhile Tony has no armor over his arch reactor which is keeping him alive. Why dose no villain ever target the shiny light on Iron Man's chest 🤔
25:39 what?!?! 😂😂 did you just invite yourself to bottom for him? 😂
The entire War Scene at 19:16 is my Favourite in this Movie
I love how "pissed" he looks at 19:59
Dude was jammin to Suicidal Tendencies
"My Mom and sis... my Mom and wife are both nurses..."
I'm getting a little Alabama vibe here xD
18:54 Thank you, dude. This isn't said often enough.
He looked like"Shoot the Freak" from Coney Island in that first suit!!
Admittedly, Howard Stark, Tony's dad, was a great inventor, a great scientist, and a great . . . well, he had a lot of great points to go along with his flaws.
@@billparrish4385 I mean, technically there is a 'pure alcohol ingredient' but anhydrous EtOH isn't what people normally want to drink :D
Loved watching 😁 your so enthusiastic
"What, she catch you yankin your willis?" Bruh you really think he's EVER had to do that himself? Lmfao
Perfect choice! Robert Downey Jr owns this character. Best of the 3 Iron Man movies.
yep he does!
This makes me so happy bec you are having so much fun watching it 🥺
I want that shirt! Also, you gained a subscriber. Love ur reaction vids!
thank you so much Aaron!
A dirty Martini is made with gin or vodka, vermouth and olive juice. The olive juice makes it a "dirty martini".
2:19 "That partners gotta be jealous as hell then."
...foreshadowing...
“Dirty” means extra olive juice
Just found ur channel but I’m enjoying the reactions so I’ll be here for a while lol
thank you Brock!
@2:54 you said "vibrato". I think you meant "bravado". Otherwise, great video!
Comin back to this. Think I’m gonna do a full rewatch of these reactions. Been way too deep in the trenches mentally lately and I need a pick me up. Always my go to guy.
The scarf is called a keffiyeh, I got one at the start of the pandemic and wear it everyday. impromptu face mask, and to keep me dry on sweaty days. One of my favorite accessories now.
It's good advice not to get too hung up on the real-world logistics of these movies. Hell, Tony Stark has a seemingly perpetual miniature battery stuck in his chest. We're stepping into the realm of comic book sci-fi and fantasy here. Best to just go with the flow and don't think too hard about it.
that's true!
I love that you're finally seeing the MCU movies. Buckle up; you're in for a wild ride.
we are!
