Some neat symbolism in this fight. Red spider lily, also known as lycoris radiata or higanbana is a bright red flower that is often found around graveyards in Japan. The bulb of the flower is poisonous, and they are planted at graves as tribute for the dead. They are associated with death and legends say if you meet someone you'll never see again, these flowers will bloom along the path. They also symbolize loss, longing, abandonment and lost memories. All phase transition attacks have a giant spider lily in them, and the flower grows during the late summer/early autumn rainy season, which is also known as "Tsuyu." Makes you wonder how far back they thought of all of this.
*Spoilers my dudes** I think what really made my heart hurt regarding Yotsuyu/Tsuyu was when she ran to the tree after Asahi pulled his stunt. She remembered all the horrid things she'd endured and done as Yotsuyu, and Tsuyu wanted to commit suicide. She remembered all the pain and suffering she'd gone through and simply wanted it to end. And then her parents had to twist the knife further and release the shackles on the beast. As twisted as it is, I'm happy she's gone. No more pain, no more suffering. If people in the world of FFXIV reincarnate, I hope she gets the chance. Yotsuyu deserves at least one life of peace.
Who knows, maybe we'll see some reference in one of the 13 reflections, the "second" world maybe? Also, FF14 indicating there are 14 universes. So the amount of content may never end as we still got 12 more "reflections" left unless something bad happens (some may already been lost due to the calamities of fusion).
@@dra6o0n Well, one of those reflections was a "shard" that was destroyed by a flood of darkness and as such became the World of Darkness. Though it could be interesting if we actually do travel back there, but this time we do so to reverse the change. And in that case we might even get to encounter our World of Darkness "self" (though my gut tells me our World of Darkness self would actually turn out to be the Cloud of Darkness).
Yotsuyu was a monster, but she was a monster made in the image of those who made her that way, molded by a lifetime of pain and suffering. And the real tragedy of it all? Every last ounce of all that pain and suffering inflicted on her was completely pointless and unnecessary.
When I first saw Yotsuyu, I really thought there was no way they could handle and conclude such a difficult character in a satisfactory way. And boy did they prove me wrong. She was both beyond salvation and so pitiful - giving her a few days of grace and happiness and the love that she didn't get as a child, and then giving her her revenge, but also having her die because there is no coming back from such depths of evil and hatred - that was perfect.
@@wrigglenight93 The thing with the Tsuyu story is that it shows us that Yotsuyu is not an evil person, that is not her nature. All the rancor and rage she harbors comes from the inhuman level of abuse she suffered, she is a completely broken human being that never had a chance, I think Tsuyu works really well.
@@DakonBlackblade2 it occured to me after this arc that this may have been one of the major themes of Stormblood. the 3 ""villians" of it, Fondullia, Zenos, and Yotsuyu where all, when you think of it, to one degree or another, created by their enviroment, they never outright said it, but considering the emperor's reaction to Zenos' death I doubt very much he had a warm and loving childhood. I mean... christ he calls the WoL his "one true friend".
The female vocal melody is basically the Doma daytime theme but transposed into another key. This song and Byakko's theme are basically re-arrangements of Doma's theme which is quite clever.

Lol I posted this two years ago and it’s STILL true. Suzuku, Seiryu, Innocence, Hades, Seat of Sacrifice... not only are they still great, they’re somehow getting even better. Ridiculous.
Because she could have been a good person if Life hadn't CONSTANTLY hit her in the face with the "Fuck You" stick. Monsters aren't typically born. They're made.
Spoiler Alert: I nearly cried when the Shade of Gosetsu jumps out to protect Yotsuyu from Zenos's sword. He was the one good person in her entire life whom she felt at ease with. It showed that even in her darkest hours, she still clung on to that one final shred of hope and love for Gosetsu which, in a way, changed her. It was the one moment whence she felt grateful, happy, instead of bitterness and anger. It was the one moment where I truly believed that had fate been just a little kinder, she would have been able to live happily with Gosetsu as his surrogate granddaughter.
"Get behind me Tsuyu!!" i nearly fucking lost it....Poor Gosetsu was so devastated when he saw her body at the end...for him it was akin to losing his family again.
Fuck man, It was hard to fight not because tsuyu was too hard but having feels in the middle of the fight. Knowing that she could have lived a peaceful life with Gosetsu if fate was just a tad bit kinder to both of them.

same. the gosetsu's shade coming i did not expect at all. it shows how attached she really was and how appreciative she was, how badly she wanted it in reality, deep inside.
Stormblood itself was underrated in my opinion, Delta and Sigmascape were both fun, I didnt finish alphascape because I didn't have time to so Idk what that was like. The story was pretty much FF6 HD just with different characters.

@@dragumkirisute1998 Honestly, for me the best part about SB was the patch cycle that followed it. It includes some of my favourite content in the entirety of FF14. The Gosetsu arc, Tsuku trial, the meetup with Varis, Ghimlyt... I don't share the hatred for SB but it was... mediocre. Too much filler, too little direction for a lot of the xpack - even though it picked up in the end. The fact you spent like a third of the content just running around Ruby/Azim, doing whatever made it feel really disjointed. Also I feel that Yanxia/Azim/Ruby Sea wasn't what a lot of people expected from a far eastern themed expansion.
This is one of my all time favorite trials. The music, mechanics, and story surrounding the fight were beautifully done. So glad I got a chance to win a "I Beat Tsukuyomi" shirt at E3 2018.

Honestly i'd be surprised if they ever did run out of ideas. Square have been surprising us with music since the 80's no reason that would stop now. Besides theres still many more genres and styles left for Soken to explore.

I wonder if Square Enix will ever make me feel those shivers I felt during that phase transition again. That felt good, otherworldly, something I've never really felt in a game before. Truly hallowing.
Stormblood was the expansion that had me convinced this is the best MMO in the market. Shadowbringers solidified that. I'm eager to see what Endwalker will do for me.
Even to this day this might be my favorite primal fight in the game. Everything about it just radiates the peak of ff perfection. The music, the story, the atmosphere; It all combines to create something that feels more like a dance then an actual fight. That added to the fact that its just so fucking fun as a fight. Sometimes when I get bored in this game I just queue up for it, for no reason other then the fact that its incredible. Very few things in any game that are like that for me and this manages to be one.
I just did this fight and I'll continue to say, fights that just make you feel emotional about the boss to the point where you don't want to fight the boss but need to do such. Its the most underrated form of boss fights and rare, so far they are always the best boss fights as well.
So everything...like, EVERYTHING about this is awesome. Great music, spectacular visuals, incredibly fun fight. But I have to praise one thing in particular: The English voice acting. I can't comment on how it sounds in any other language, but Yotsuyu's VA here just cranked the glorious, scenery-devouring *venom* past it's limits, and it was magnificent.
Yeah we know Yotsu is bad and all, but the people she oppressed aren't exactly a picture of ideal citizen as well, even long before Garlemald set its foots on their lands. This applies to Ala Mhigans as well.
Not everyone’s bad either though. Think that’s the point they’re trying to hammer in. It’s a burden the leaders and you the WoL have to bear that not everyone you’re saving deserves it. I think it’s obviously setting up the going to Garlemald we’ll probably do in 5.0, as there’s been a lot of deconstruction of the clear goodguys vs badguys depiction that’s been around since vanilla 14.

Finally found what it reminds me of! "From That Day On..." from the Final Fantasy VI soundtrack. Shares leitmotif similar to how Cyan's theme formed the body of phase 2. Fitting considering it was the theme for several towns in the second half of the game, after spoiler spoilers the spoilers and gets spoiler spoilers then transcends time and space to show up in FFXIV
Why did it take me so long to realize the Motif of Cyan's theme in this? Since I've been going to the doman enclave more for Bozja I've been hearing that theme more often, and i had listened to Wayward daughter way more times that I started hearing wayward daughter within it just slowed down with less beats, that and the transition song are both parts of Cyan's theme sped up. Cool as fuck and really helps emphasize her as a daughter of Doma. A greatly tragic one at that.
Such a neat character. I honestly don't think I hated somebody so much, and ended up sobbing so hard when they died. They really did her arc justice imo. Perhaps she deserved a kinder fate, but I do think that there had to be balance. She did so many awful things... still :/
I say this all the time, but do you think they'll be able to top this theme? They probably will, they always do, but does anyone else think they can't possibly top a theme only to be shocked and blown away with the next patch/expansion themes?
Defeating Yotuysu in combat, wasn't killing a tyrant. It was a mercy killing, putting her out of her misery after a lifetime of it. She wanted to die and take her rotten brother with her. What better way to go, then for a monster to die at the hands of a hero?
Vayne Insane all she wanted to do was die at that point. She regretted everything she did, especially after her short life with Gosetsu but she began to remember. Her accepting to become a primal meant she was to going to die so she took it and as she was dying, took her cruel and bitch ass brother with her. I’m glad she is out of her misery. Her horrible brother and parents raised a monster and that monster was gone, came back but once again gone again and she suffered because of her brother until the end. I was so happy watching that son of bitch die.
It is definitely not us killing Yotsuyu for the tyrant she is, but it's the fact that she's now an eikon and must be defeated before it becomes too much to handle. I feel a lot of pity, I was like "Tsuyu, no!". The whole fight I wasn't happy that I am given a challenge, instead I felt sorrow for having forced to slay her. The music felt just right for that mood.
Funny you mention this, because I didn't get the same feeling of satisfaction from finally taking down Yotsuyu than from Asahi getting his just desserts. I'm glad the I got the fight I was longing for at 4.0, but had she gotten to live a good life, things might have been different. (She should've let us kill Ashai though.)

The jump in difficulty got me here. Tsukuyomi genuinely got me several times before we learned the mechanics, and her little turd of a brother had the nerve to call her a weak eikon. From this point onwards, the Expansion got seriously hardcore with their bosses and duties. The Burn, The fight with Sadu and the Requiem for Heroes fight all made me fight seriously. It's why I love Final Fantasy so much. When they sense things are stagnating, they raise the bar higher.

Wayward Daughter is Tsuyu Restless Eyes is Tsuyu's brother, blind to the beast, Tsuyu's, intention to kill him. And the barren waters could be reference to Tsuyu just wanting it all to end at this point.

They set the bar so high with this Trial that I don't think I'll ever be able to enjoy another one that much. The fight is extremely fun, the music is a damn masterpiece and let's face it, even if it was the Witch of Doma, we had forgiven her... One of the most beautiful fights in the game for me.

Makes me sad this was the last primal I have done in this game. This song makes me sad because everyone who I played with stopped playing. I am planning on returning and starting new when the new expansion comes out... I’ve made so many friends in my server those past 4 years and came a little famous myself. RIP Midgardsormr server.
I hated her until this fight. I really did. I just saw her as this vile woman who easily went back to her hateful, murderous ways. Then, when Gosetsu shields her, it started to sink in... and after the battle, I was in tears. I can't do this battle now without crying afterwards. Gosetsu, wherever you are now, I hope you are finding your way and are finding peace.

As Gosetsu is my favorite side character in all the expansions, this one was tough. I mean it was pretty powerful that she was able proclaim “I swore you’d be the first” then shredded that sniveling shit, but having affection for Gosetsu as a character an know what he had lost still made it very bitter. Although, seeing Gosetsu become a Wanderer makes me hope that we’ll get to see him again in a meaningful way

Dude, ANYTHING is deeper and more loved than Zenos. A cactuar high on meth going on a killing spree is better than Zenos. Yotsuyu deserves to be compared to something better, like Emet.
@@optimaltt6070 I disagree, I think Zenos makes a good foil to the WoL and that makes him a good antagonist. They're both incredible one-in-a-generation geniuses, but the WoL manages to find meaning in helping other people and adventuring, while Zenos only has combat and violence. Really makes you wonder how the WoL would have ended if they were born in a territory controlled by Garlemald. And it's because of their similirsties that Zenos manages to form a connection with the WoL, even if it's a connection based on violence, because that's the only language he's ever known

She can't have one. Too many people suffered by her and far too many would never forgive her. And living her whole life in the castle and forced to be a secret from the people would not have been a better life. She knew she had to die, it was the only way. But she got her vengeance regardless. She killed her parents and her brother, she got what she wanted in the end.
Yotsuyu didn't deserve any of what she went through. But she accepted her lot in life and did horrible things. As much as I pity her... she's far from innocent... This fight didn't feel like a "Victory".

Pretty sure they thought about everything. The devs also have the story planned in advance and they are pretty good at putting some details and clues.
That’s what I love about this mmo unlike other mmos, they really put time into small details and try to make everything so beautiful.

Honestly I was put off by the whole Tsuyu story, to me it just felt a bit uncomfortable and infantilizing. But the payoff really made it click

It was the one moment whence she felt grateful, happy, instead of bitterness and anger. It was the one moment where I truly believed that had fate been just a little kinder, she would have been able to live happily with Gosetsu as his surrogate granddaughter.
"Get behind me Tsuyu!!" i nearly fucking lost it....Poor Gosetsu was so devastated when he saw her body at the end...for him it was akin to losing his family again.

Fuck man, It was hard to fight not because tsuyu was too hard but having feels in the middle of the fight. Knowing that she could have lived a peaceful life with Gosetsu if fate was just a tad bit kinder to both of them.

same. the gosetsu's shade coming i did not expect at all. it shows how attached she really was and how appreciative she was, how badly she wanted it in reality, deep inside.

Stormblood itself was underrated in my opinion, Delta and Sigmascape were both fun, I didnt finish alphascape because I didn't have time to so Idk what that was like.
The story was pretty much FF6 HD just with different characters.

@@dragumkirisute1998 Honestly, for me the best part about SB was the patch cycle that followed it. It includes some of my favourite content in the entirety of FF14. The Gosetsu arc, Tsuku trial, the meetup with Varis, Ghimlyt...
I don't share the hatred for SB but it was... mediocre. Too much filler, too little direction for a lot of the xpack - even though it picked up in the end. The fact you spent like a third of the content just running around Ruby/Azim, doing whatever made it feel really disjointed. Also I feel that Yanxia/Azim/Ruby Sea wasn't what a lot of people expected from a far eastern themed expansion.
This is one of my all time favorite trials. The music, mechanics, and story surrounding the fight were beautifully done. So glad I got a chance to win a "I Beat Tsukuyomi" shirt at E3 2018.

How can a song be both badass and emotional enough to make me kind of choke up a bit at times? Soken and good storytelling, that's how.
I wonder if Square Enix will ever make me feel those shivers I felt during that phase transition again. That felt good, otherworldly, something I've never really felt in a game before. Truly hallowing.

Even to this day this might be my favorite primal fight in the game. Everything about it just radiates the peak of ff perfection. The music, the story, the atmosphere; It all combines to create something that feels more like a dance then an actual fight. That added to the fact that its just so fucking fun as a fight. Sometimes when I get bored in this game I just queue up for it, for no reason other then the fact that its incredible. Very few things in any game that are like that for me and this manages to be one.
I just did this fight and I'll continue to say, fights that just make you feel emotional about the boss to the point where you don't want to fight the boss but need to do such. Its the most underrated form of boss fights and rare, so far they are always the best boss fights as well.
i hate to love tsuyu. i feel so bad for her. i can relate to her overwhelming pain and suffering. my heart broke in phase 2, watching everything.

So everything...like, EVERYTHING about this is awesome. Great music, spectacular visuals, incredibly fun fight. But I have to praise one thing in particular: The English voice acting.
I can't comment on how it sounds in any other language, but Yotsuyu's VA here just cranked the glorious, scenery-devouring *venom* past it's limits, and it was magnificent.
I can confirm her french VA is also very good.
Her German VA is pretty good, however the writing in German compared to English is not up to par...

I think it’s obviously setting up the going to Garlemald we’ll probably do in 5.0, as there’s been a lot of deconstruction of the clear goodguys vs badguys depiction that’s been around since vanilla 14.

Finally found what it reminds me of! "From That Day On..." from the Final Fantasy VI soundtrack. Shares leitmotif similar to how Cyan's theme formed the body of phase 2. Fitting considering it was the theme for several towns in the second half of the game, after spoiler spoilers the spoilers and gets spoiler spoilers then transcends time and space to show up in FFXIV
Why did it take me so long to realize the Motif of Cyan's theme in this? Since I've been going to the doman enclave more for Bozja I've been hearing that theme more often, and i had listened to Wayward daughter way more times that I started hearing wayward daughter within it just slowed down with less beats, that and the transition song are both parts of Cyan's theme sped up.
Cool as fuck and really helps emphasize her as a daughter of Doma. A greatly tragic one at that.
By far one of the best Primal themes they've made so far.
Such a neat character. I honestly don't think I hated somebody so much, and ended up sobbing so hard when they died. They really did her arc justice imo. Perhaps she deserved a kinder fate, but I do think that there had to be balance. She did so many awful things... still :/

Defeating Yotuysu in combat, wasn't killing a tyrant. It was a mercy killing, putting her out of her misery after a lifetime of it. She wanted to die and take her rotten brother with her. What better way to go, then for a monster to die at the hands of a hero?
Vayne Insane all she wanted to do was die at that point. She regretted everything she did, especially after her short life with Gosetsu but she began to remember. Her accepting to become a primal meant she was to going to die so she took it and as she was dying, took her cruel and bitch ass brother with her. I’m glad she is out of her misery. Her horrible brother and parents raised a monster and that monster was gone, came back but once again gone again and she suffered because of her brother until the end. I was so happy watching that son of bitch die.
It is definitely not us killing Yotsuyu for the tyrant she is, but it's the fact that she's now an eikon and must be defeated before it becomes too much to handle. I feel a lot of pity, I was like "Tsuyu, no!". The whole fight I wasn't happy that I am given a challenge, instead I felt sorrow for having forced to slay her. The music felt just right for that mood.
Funny you mention this, because I didn't get the same feeling of satisfaction from finally taking down Yotsuyu than from Asahi getting his just desserts. I'm glad the I got the fight I was longing for at 4.0, but had she gotten to live a good life, things might have been different. (She should've let us kill Ashai though.)

The jump in difficulty got me here. Tsukuyomi genuinely got me several times before we learned the mechanics, and her little turd of a brother had the nerve to call her a weak eikon.
From this point onwards, the Expansion got seriously hardcore with their bosses and duties. The Burn, The fight with Sadu and the Requiem for Heroes fight all made me fight seriously. It's why I love Final Fantasy so much. When they sense things are stagnating, they raise the bar higher.

They set the bar so high with this Trial that I don't think I'll ever be able to enjoy another one that much. The fight is extremely fun, the music is a damn masterpiece and let's face it, even if it was the Witch of Doma, we had forgiven her... One of the most beautiful fights in the game for me.

I hated her until this fight. I really did. I just saw her as this vile woman who easily went back to her hateful, murderous ways. Then, when Gosetsu shields her, it started to sink in... and after the battle, I was in tears. I can't do this battle now without crying afterwards.

As Gosetsu is my favorite side character in all the expansions, this one was tough. I mean it was pretty powerful that she was able proclaim “I swore you’d be the first” then shredded that sniveling shit, but having affection for Gosetsu as a character an know what he had lost still made it very bitter. Although, seeing Gosetsu become a Wanderer makes me hope that we’ll get to see him again in a meaningful way

@@optimaltt6070 I disagree, I think Zenos makes a good foil to the WoL and that makes him a good antagonist. They're both incredible one-in-a-generation geniuses, but the WoL manages to find meaning in helping other people and adventuring, while Zenos only has combat and violence. Really makes you wonder how the WoL would have ended if they were born in a territory controlled by Garlemald. And it's because of their similirsties that Zenos manages to form a connection with the WoL, even if it's a connection based on violence, because that's the only language he's ever known

I kinda wish she didn't die. Not really much redemption after being used and used and used
I wished she could have a real redemption arc. Here, she just was broken and forsaken by everyone, only to die in pain. Her story is very sad...
She can't have one. Too many people suffered by her and far too many would never forgive her. And living her whole life in the castle and forced to be a secret from the people would not have been a better life. She knew she had to die, it was the only way. But she got her vengeance regardless. She killed her parents and her brother, she got what she wanted in the end.

Yotsuyu didn't deserve any of what she went through. But she accepted her lot in life and did horrible things.
