Even though Gosetsu cried out and questioned it, them surviving the castle collapse gave Yotsuyu the chance to experience kindness for once in her life before she died. I like how part of the fight showed that. Gosetsu MVP.
I finished Stormblood not too long ago. I feel like the kami spared the both of them, knowing how much blood was on both of their hands, just so when the time came they would at least have each other in the afterlife. A taste of happiness to prepare for eternity.
@@TheOnlyLonelyBoy Well their paring wasn't a romantic one, Gosetsu is like 3 times her age. It was more like the grand daughter he never got to have because he spent his life in dutiful service to his lord.
She KNEW she would die by the second half of the fight and embraced it, to me that was the moment her redemption was sealed, because in that moment she chose suicide by WoL over vengeance...though still managed to get it right at the end.
@@TheOnlyLonelyBoy I don't really think the kami had anything to do with it. That is, I don't think the "Kami" even exist, just like the Twelve. It's just a word that Easterners apply to beings they don't understand the nature of. What makes her story so sad isn't that Doma actively attempted to hurt her. It's that the people just passively let her suffering continue. It's a theme that was a big focus at the start of the Doma section of STB, and you see how it reached far back for decades. Nobody thought to reach out to her, to pull her out of her shitty circumstances. Her parents didn't care, her brother didn't care, her husband didn't care, her proprietor didn't care, her clients didn't care, and when she decided she'd had enough the people of Doma declared her a monster. They weren't there to help an innocent girl suffering alone, and then they were all too eager to call her horrid things after their passivity made her what she became. I think this is why Hien's promise to Gosetsu carries so much more weight than it initially appears. He's not just saying "I'll repair Doma after it was damaged by the Empire." What he's really trying to get across is "I'll make Doma a place where we won't repeat the tragedy of Tsuyu again."
If you go into crafter quests and other sidequests you see how rotten Doma and Shirogane culturally are in some aspects. As the culinarian quest said it it’s a place where you don’t get honor in life, you’re simply born with it or not

I reviewed the Tsukuyomi fight, and I think the detail I found most striking recently is the fact that Yotsuyu witnessed firsthand how capably overpowered Zenos was. Particularly when he single-handedly beat a group of assassins sent to kill him in one of the Stormblood short stories. To her, Zenos is practically the strongest being she knows. And yet, Gosetsu's shade in the phase transition was able to not only stagger and push him back, which stopped his strike completely, but said shade even managed to hold him there, and overpowered Zenos-albeit with some help. Yotsuyu was one of my fav characters. I hated her, then pity her and finally loved her. The character, story, themes and this music lyrics, all beautifully written by Natsuko Ishikawa.
Most people who die after becoming primals don’t even leave a body behind. They dissipate into aether. Yotsuyu had a body to leave behind and at least one person was able to mourn for her. She’s lucky to leave that much behind. Something to bury and properly mourn.
Wait... as far as i remember. there have five cases where mortal become primals has reverted back to their form. Twice with Ysayle, Once with Zenos, and Yotsuyu. The one time somone dissapates was Ysayles third transformation, but to be fair.. she was being blasted by airship canons that time, so we can't really take that as the norm.
@@DonnyDunne Keyword being “died.” Ysayle didn’t die until her final transformation. Zenos didn’t die after the Shinryu fight. He also fused with the Primal, not use his body as the vessel. Then he tried to slit his throat. So again, consider how fortunate she was to leave behind a body that didn’t dissipate to aether.
I think most of people missed deep message behind Yotsuyu's story. Me too at first, but replaying it and giving it more thoughts, its very, very sad story.
@@one_eyeddd473 That is one thing I love about this, the story is so well done that in some ways you can sympathize with Tsuyu because she was treated horribly by everyone in her life. Of course she has done heinous things so while she can't be forgiven it was still nice to see her experience true happiness.
She would have had that kinder fate if the first thing she did after transforming was yeet Asahi then fight us. But I understand that's not how the order of things go.
@@laylaminrir She was suicidal upon getting her memory back. She felt after everything she had done, she deserved nothing but to die. Having Gosetsu of all people, someone she directly tried to murder, take pity on her and care for her was too much. @@CrashB111 that doesn't change the fact that she might have lived if she yeeted Asahi first. Who's to say she won't try to be a better person if Gousetsu forgive her as Yotsuyu. Im not saying that's how it should be. I'm only stating a what if she lived.
@@laylaminrir It's not a matter of if other people could forgive her, she can't live with herself. Think about it, the very first thing she does on getting her memory back is leave the house to go slit her own throat in the yard. The only thing that kept her from committing suicide right then was her parents walking up. Which then made her take the opportunity to finally get revenge on the true sources of her pain before her death.
@@CrashB111 That way I view that scene was her ending her life whilst her humanity was still intact. For her, that was "true peace" since she finally felt guilty on doing all those horrible things and dying whilst feeling those said guilt made her feel that at least she will die knowing that she isn't really a heartless monster. But alas, her parents showed up. Provoked her to no end that it triggered back her anger and nihilism.
Tsuyu shows us how kind she could've been. With her lifetime of malice being wiped out temporarily, all she needed was just 1 person to show her a bit of kindness, and she became a sweet, kind and innocent girl. what she had done are unforgivable, but I can't help but feel bad for her.
If I had one thing to gripe about during that story portion then it's the fact that we kept talking about her infront of her, like she wasn't even there. Like, guys. You know she's lost her memories and you kinda are all in agreement it's for the best if it stays that way. So why actively talk about what happens if her memories come back and how much you distrust her?

something about the FFXIV Male Opera goes SO HARD. coincidentally all my favorite songs have em. Answers, Dragonsong, Who brings Shadow, this song, like c'mon.
@@Nundalose Am I the only one who noticed the "Doma" theme tune being sung by the male chorus? Almost as if Doma itself was the source of this being's pain, and its people were at long last acknowledging it.
Listen closely! The riff at 1:25 is the same melody as the one in "A Father's Pride," and "Mother's Pride," Yanxia's themes for day and night respectively
This primal fight has one of the hardest mechanics in the game: Having to cry-sing-scream your lungs out while you try to still concentrate on the rest of the fight.
Not going to lie, when I did the fight, I stepped in front of her to block the attacks aimed at her by the phantoms. As soon as I did that, each of my party members did too. The healers raised their barriers. Had I been a Paladin, I would've raised that one barrier. It's a rare thing for the party to protect the person they're battling...but I keep seeing parties in the Tsukuyomi fight do just that. We may be fighting the primal...but darn if we don't want to save the person who's been victimized into being their vessel.
The song is like a duet between the souls of Yotsuyu and Gosetsu. Yotsuyu giving into and embracing her suffering and Gosetsu begging his newfound daughter to return and not believe the lies...
not to dump on your interpretation of it, but the male singing is definitely not Goesetsu - it's her oppressors. If you look at the official post for the song, it sheds more light on the meaning of the male vocalist's lines. There was a very nice post on it with translations a while back. Westward lies bleed t'ward the east. 西の虚栄が 東へと流れ込む (The vanity of the west flows into the east.) Wayward daughter, step into the night 価値なき娘よ 夜闇へと踏み入れたまえ (Worthless daughter, you shall step into the darkness of the night.) Restless eyes, blind to the beast 瞑れぬその目も 堕ちた己を映しはしまい (Restless though those eyes may be, they cannot see how far the self has fallen.) Barren waters yield unto the tide 無力な露は 流れに従うしかないのだよ―― (Powerless dew, you cannot help but obey the tides.) Keeping in mind that "tsuyu" means "dew" in Japanese.
Not gonna lie- That's the moment I always tear up. In the end, i don't fear the boss mechanics, I fear the moment Gosetsu jumps into the fight to protect Tsuyu ...
And if you fail that mech, Yotsuyu will say something like this, "The world is only filled with cruelty." And then you wipe, not in hp, but also get wiped because of the tears you're shedding because of that single line, right there.
I just found out Natsuko Ishikawa penned the lyrics of Wayward Daughter. She has such an amazing talent in writing, everything she does is full of emotion and rich character development. The main FF series hasn’t had a compelling story since FFX, but now I am excited for FFXVI, simply because she’s the main story designer.
I started ff14 lately and reached the patches of stormblood. This si one of the most beautiful and saddest primal fights I experienced (up to this point). We had a chance to peek into her mind and Gosetsu was standing tall protecting her. In one of the Japanese Samurai novels, there was a story about one fallen lord. He never felt connected to his subjects and when he lost (he is Mitsunari Ishida and Ieyasu Tokugawa beat him fyi) he was just cursing everything partly because he was never loved by anyone. Then one farmer gave him a persimmon (the same one as Yotssuyu fetched for Gosetsu) and then the lord realized he was loved at least by someone, felt peace and died in peace. I think Yotsuyu, when she committed too many crimes, killed herself by fighting the warrior of light. But Gosetsu gave her the peaceful times she can die. She died as Tsuyu and not Yotsuyu, thinking about the persimmon. I love ff14 so much. Just arr, hw and sb already gave me more awesome time than any media (books, moveis and what not) gave me in my near half a century life.
Holy crap, no wonder the lyrics to the music were so good. Natsuko Ishikawa (the lady who was the main writer for Shadowbringers) was listed in the credits for the lyrics.
So she's categorically the best writer, then. DRK quests These lyrics. And then Shadowbringers. She's gotta be a primal of writing. No other being can have that sheer level of power. **finds crystals for her**
@@QwertyRulz2 You have to admire Yoshi's eye for talent. Natsuko did the well-received ARR Alchemist quests, so he gave her the DRK quests. That was well-received, so she got the Azim Steppe storyline (including the 60-70 storyline moneyshot, the Nadaam) and let her come up with this fight's lyrics. These, too, were almost universally hailed as the expansion's high point, so he promoted her to lead writer for Shadowbringers, and she chads up and makes one of the best story twists in an MMO to date. Dude knew a rising star when he saw one.
This was such a conflicting arc for me..one part of me is saying that Yotsuyu still deserves to be ended for all that she did and a part of me is saying that it's fine to forgive her and let her find peace with Gosetsu..when I was clearing this trial with my friends I was the main tank and I was literally fighting through the tears during the ads phase, our offtank offered to switch with me on the next phase but I declined as I wanted to face Tsukuyomi till the end (since the MT is mostly the target it always feels like I am mainly the one fighting the boss)..I kept repeating "not like this, not like this" inside me as Yotsuyu's suffering filled up and I literally bawled Gosetsu's name when he appeared to protect Yotsuyu and when he said "Live long, Tsuyu".. Yotsuyu deserved to be ended, but she deserved a kinder and more peaceful ending..but I'm still glad that she really did feel Gosetsu's kindness before she died
Yotsuyu deserved her death, but Tsuyu didn't. Tsuyu was basically another reality of what Yotsuyu could have become if she wasn't abused by every single person in her life. I'm still inclined to believe it was Tsuyu we killed. Reliving memories is not the same as experiencing them. I feel like she decided to play the villain so people would feel at peace with her death. And yet, it felt so awful. The animation of that fight made it so much more harder to cope. I believe Tsuyu should have had a chance to live for Yotsuyu that couldn't.
Y'know, I can't but notice a distinct lack of her bodyguard as a shade. Grynewaht done dirty, my man was used and discarded like a dishrag. A whole 'I never even considered you' moment.
All of the shades were aspects of people who were the cause of her suffering throughout her life. So, I guess you can at least take that as Grynewaht not being responsible for any of it? All he did was bumble and run. And rip and tear, I suppose.
Another stellar piece of writing from Natsuko Ishikawa! So far she's written the Coerthas section of 2.0, 3.2 + 3.4 MSQs, the Doman half of Stormblood, the Crystal Tower arc, Omega quests, and DRK/ROG quests. No wonder she was promoted to lead writer for Shadowbringers. Can't wait to see what she's done for Endwalker!
Ah, so most of the best parts were written by the same person? Makes sense. She’ll definitely have a career wherever she wants to go with that talent and record.
@@williek08472 She also wrote the DRK questline in Heavensward, and I will say, probably without knowing who the write was. You could tell where the whole 'Shadow and Darkness' stuff started (aka Shadowbringers)

Hyper-Grynewaht Dr. Aulus mal Acina Tsukuyomi (maybe we can save her like HG?)
Back here to say damn, we didn't get 4.0 Ultimate - they skipped it entirely to do FRU instead. While I'm not opposed to an Eden Ultimate, I still want one for Stormblood MSQ eventually! Come on, we had one for both ARR and HW MSQ!
@@MissPoplarLeaf It’s still possible for the 4.0 Ultimate to be released somewhere in 7.0. Raid themed ultimates did come together with msq ones, with the raid ultimates being one version ahead. 2.0 Ultima+3.0 Alexander were released in 5.0, and 3.0 DR+4.0 Omega released in 6.0.
Honestly Of all the things that really made me cry was watching Gosetsu get upset over the woman he belived deserved a better life than the one she had. The words "I hope the fruit is as sweet as he remembered it" is still something that gets to me every day.
According to the songwriter, the Japanese portion of the lyrics represent the voice of she who has become Tsukuyomi, while the English portion features the voices of those who have restrained her (represented with the fiercer tone in the male chorus). Throughout the entire song, the structure of the song goes back and forth between the two voices singing to one another. In a story of revolution and liberation, she also fought to try and release herself, which was included as the final line of the song. We hope you enjoyed this insight into the storytelling of Stormblood through song! Perhaps using these lyrics, we can all better understand the perspective of this wayward daughter of Doma. Yotsuyu was such a beautiful fantastically developed villain and I genuinely felt heartbroken when she turned evil again but at least we got this epic final boss and this ABSOLUTE BANGER!!!!!
another hint that Yotsuyu was making her final play was the spider lilies. The red spider lily is a symbol for death and inevitable endings in Japanese folklore, she knew she was going to die and wanted the WoL to grant her that. She just wanted to go out on her own terms, and what better way to do that then to make them hate you, to spew venom the way she so easily did before. But you can tell that she half heartedly means them now, it's less vitriolic and more... heartbreaking. Proud until the end, for better or worse.
When I was fighting her recently as tank, I asked if I need to do anything for the fight, and most of the reply I got was "put her down" and "feel sad for her" lol
When the fight ended and asahi was being a fucking asshole shooting Yotsuyu. I thought she had a chance but those 2 shots sealed it for me. I wanted nothing more then to kill him myself. Then those 2 swords from her to kill him had me cheering. I wanna say I actually screamed "She's taking you with her you bastard!" Even after whipping constantly to eventually get my clear. This fight will forever be one of my favorites and one of the most emotional moments to me.
At least he had the comeuppance of having his dead body puppeted, disgraced, and defiled by a nihilistic psychopath worse than him, and now has to spend the rest of eternity with only said psychopath for company in the spirit world.
Major spoiler about Yotsuyu, i just need to get this off my chest. This is what i think of Yotsuyu, It is common knowledge the WOL has fell countless primals and Asahi showing up before she was about to kill herself gave her a chance to play along with him, she knew she is going to be defeated by the WOL, which will provide the opportunity for Asahi to get careless so she can kill him and get the vengeance she wanted so badly. Her acting all evil just before the last fight was just part of her self destructive plan to goat the WOL into defeating her Yotsuyu's true nature is a kind hearted person, this is evident when she lost all her memories. She even wanted to kill herself when she regained her memories realizing she doesn't deserve kindness for her evil acts. Her evil deeds stems from an unfortunate product surrounding her upbringing and circumstances. She is only evil because she was seething with hatred and wanting vengeance but not getting it. Years of mistreatment has turn her into a spiteful witch that just wants the world to burn at how harshly it treated her. At the end of her short life at least she finally experienced kindness towards her and understand what it feels like to have someone who actually cares for her. Yotsuyu is a really well written character, in a bittersweet story.
100% agreed and basically how I explained it (though not as well said here lol) to my party member who was confused about her "turning back" evil once she recovered her memories, this was an elaborate suicide characterized by how mentally shattered she became through back-to-back-to-back traumas I don't really care for the narrative structure of SB overall but Yotsuyu always kept me hooked along
@@Kyoukami i also agree. You can tell she is kinda trying to fall back on her habits but she isnt as into it anymore. Gosetsu connected to the humanity she has willingly ignored for years
listen to the japanese verse of Wayward daughter, then go listen to Yanxia day theme, A Father's pride, at 1:37. A father's pride, and a wayward daughter
God damn. From the very first lines, the pain in the story is made clear “A flower waiting to be plucked Each petal a promise torn.” The sheer magnitude of the betrayal in one’s own parents casting their own out to a life of effectively slavery.
I'm sorry, Yotsuyu...I know what you went through, you deserved better - your crimes, however, cannot be absolved. Even then - may you know, and be, at peace...you deserve that much at least.
The English parts are Cyan's Theme and the Japanese parts is the music that plays in Yanxia so it's an interesting back and forth. And appropriate since this is a battle for Doma's future
@ReyJ also, assuming you finished the Omega Raids, in Sigmascape V1.0, after you finish fighting the Phantom Train, the ghosts of Cyan's wife and Son(who is also supposed to be Hien) appear and thank you for saving Doma. That was a real surprise feels out of nowhere for me.
At first I hated her, but then learning her backstory, I sympathized with her. I am glad Gosetsu showed her some compassion and kindness and gave her a chance to show she wasn’t as bad as people thought. Too bad Isahi had to destroy her chance at happiness
As another WoW refugee I'm really loving these FFXIV boss fights that have these halftime "TIME TO GET SERIOUS" moments where the soundtrack goes absolutely ham for the rest of the fight.
I still remember the first time I did this trial, I was so distracted by the music I kept dying to the fight. Absolutely unparalleled. Maybe my favorite track in the whole game including Endwalker
When Yotsuyu transformed into a primal, my first thought is Gosetsu. This shouldn't happened but the world was not kind to her. Only Gosetsu showed kindness towards her... Kami be damned! When the old man showed up in the battle, not really him though, it broke my heart. I really want to save her, for her sake and Gosetsu's.
As much as Stormblood gets flak (or not rated as high as the other expansions), I still consider this, and the dungeon final boss music (Triumph) to be the best, alongside Weight of the World from Copied Factory.
I personally prefered stormblood over heavensward, mostly because the dungeons weren't just a grey and brown blob like so many in HW. Also the boss mechanics were really cool in the raids and trials. And overall the world felt much more colourfull.
It can't be helped though all of FF14 Expac are good on their own ways. It is like choosing between arrays of gems and need to pick one with the least quality. The least one is still a gem even if losing in quality compared to the other gem.
Considing this happens post 4.3 this story is actually part of the build up into ShB. Which is sort of like our sampler for Tragic enemies. And I almost feel is like a teaser considering how it twists our thoughts about certain Ascians and their actions. Tragic as it is Tsuyu is just the prologue to all the feels ShB dishes out.
I'm not going to lie: I cry every time I hear this song and think back to the extremely over-the-top tragedy that it is about. Makes it really hard not to die during the fight, too.
Gosetsu last second save its everything right, its just so friking perfect, as a mechanic and part of the story of the Yotsuyu/Tsukoyomi Fight, this game just go beyond to prove why its so amazing, thats peak Final Fantasy Story
When we step into Dawntrail, the trials from Stormblood will be in rotation for the unreal encounter. I strongly suspect I will hear this song again much more. Not only this was a great music track, but also a complex and challenging encounter.
''oh....its going to be a long night...'' ''In darkness blooms the spider lily....'' ''From mortal husk, I rise anew!'' I cant stop hearing those lines XD
Gotta Admit the most interesting part of the spider lilies phase is not only the meaning of the spider lily but as pretty and creepy as the flowers are....they are still considered a pest. In some ways you can say that she was seen as a pest, an annoyance to many, a hindrance to all...never truly loved for her beauty a creature meant to die along and unloved. Tho the meaning of spider lily is abandonment, longing, and many more just the mere thought of how they can be viewed as a pest makes the fight even sadder.
So funny thing about this song; I got Lunar Wolf from the tombstone events and was using that mount for most of my tenure of Heavensward and Stormblood. When I finally got to this boss and Wayward Daughter came on, it gave me that exact feeling you get when the anime opening plays during the final fight.
ShB was amazing with everything that was done, HW was amazing too.....but this theme is Soken's masterpiece, when you think about when the themes were introduced and how he tied them all together.....perfect display of tragedy
fun fact: if you notice, when tsuyu dies, her hair is white, when it was originally black. She died, having purged herself of the malice that drove her.
Looking back at it I think this is the moment where I truly started loving FFXIV. I liked it before, but I really started appreciating the storytelling here.
I only just now realized... The female vocal line in this song is taken from the Yanxia day theme, which is called 'A Father's Pride'. I'm sad all over again.
the fact this contains part of the yanxia leitmotif is heartbreaking once you know the song names Yanxia Day - A Father's Pride Yanxia Night - A Mother's Pride Tsukuyomi - Wayward Daughter
I love singing along to this and trying to switch between a really deep voice to a calmer, more serene one whilst switching languages at the same time.
I think something like this is all that could have happened for her. We were foolish to think she could have both redemption and absolution. The actions one takes don't just hurt and damage others, but change the self.
I always ignore the music during my first runs of these somehow, then when I do the extremes I always say "Fuck, why didn't I hear this during my first run?"

A smile better suits a hero and that phrase ...
Final fantasy xiv really knows how to make you cry with a single phrase

Just the fact that there's both Japanese and English lyrics present. Symbolizing her being torn between Doma and Garlemald. Tsuyu and the Witch. This song is heartbreaking
Not to mention, the English lyrics are sung by a male choir, much like the Garlean themes, whereas the Japanese lyrics are sung by a woman as if it is Tsuyu singing that part.
The “Westward lies bleed t’ward the East.” line is particularly haunting when looking at the song from that perspective.

Amen.

@@Rithysak101 It was 2 main writers, she did half.
She's so well written. You can totally sympathize with her, and understand why she did those things she did, even if you don't agree with them.
Natsuko Ishikawa, YoshiP and Soken are the triforce of MMORPGs.
Most people who die after becoming primals don’t even leave a body behind. They dissipate into aether. Yotsuyu had a body to leave behind and at least one person was able to mourn for her. She’s lucky to leave that much behind. Something to bury and properly mourn.
ikr, give us Ysayle back.
With all the dead body Shenanigans that go on in this game... You have suddenly made me very nervous.
Wait... as far as i remember. there have five cases where mortal become primals has reverted back to their form.
There is also Ryne in Eden quests
The part where Gosetsu spirit protects Tsuyu from Zenos... God a boss transition does not have the right to be this good!

I think most of people missed deep message behind Yotsuyu's story. Me too at first, but replaying it and giving it more thoughts, its very, very sad story.
I agree, the end arc for her was so odd to me bc she was so irradeemable
@@one_eyeddd473 That is one thing I love about this, the story is so well done that in some ways you can sympathize with Tsuyu because she was treated horribly by everyone in her life. "What's the matter? The witch of Doma will soon be dead."

She 100% went along with the Primal plan because she knew we'd kill her, and she made sure she killed her parents and brother before she died. They were the source of the torment she endured for her entire childhood and young adult years.
This primal fight has one of the hardest mechanics in the game:
Having to cry-sing-scream your lungs out while you try to still concentrate on the rest of the fight.

"Tsuyu Deserved a better fate." I think you're spot on.
Holy crap, no wonder the lyrics to the music were so good. Natsuko Ishikawa (the lady who was the main writer for Shadowbringers) was listed in the credits for the lyrics.
So she's categorically the best writer, then.

And then Shadowbringers.

Carry on, my wayward daughter
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more
This was such a conflicting arc for me..one part of me is saying that Yotsuyu still deserves to be ended for all that she did and a part of me is saying that it's fine to forgive her and let her find peace with Gosetsu..when I was clearing this trial with my friends I was the main tank and I was literally fighting through the tears during the ads phase, our offtank offered to switch with me on the next phase but I declined as I wanted to face Tsukuyomi till the end (since the MT is mostly the target it always feels like I am mainly the one fighting the boss)..I kept repeating "not like this, not like this" inside me as Yotsuyu's suffering filled up and I literally bawled Gosetsu's name when he appeared to protect Yotsuyu and when he said "Live long, Tsuyu"..
Yotsuyu deserved to be ended, but she deserved a kinder and more peaceful ending..but I'm still glad that she really did feel Gosetsu's kindness before she died
Stop it. Get help.

Zenos (boss that can change the plot like Thordan?)
Hyper-Grynewaht
Dr. Aulus mal Acina
Tsukuyomi (maybe we can save her like HG?)
Until next time!

R.I.P. Yotsuyu
“In darkness blooms the Spider Lily..”
-Tsukiyomi
"From mortal husk, I RISE ANEW!"
Oh Tsuyu. This made me so sad. When she summoned the primal, it just broke my heart.
The saddest part of this is that she was so close to redemption… and then Asahi ruined it all
At least he had the comeuppance of having his dead body puppeted, disgraced, and defiled by a nihilistic psychopath worse than him, and now has to spend the rest of eternity with only said psychopath for company in the spirit world.
And furthermore, he enjoys being dragged through the Aetherial Sea if only because this means Fandaniel/Amon gets to suffer for sullying Zenos.
Why am I still crying after all these years and only now reading the lyrics!?!?
Tsuyu deserved so much better... My WoL told her that before she died... I was really hoping that with a clean slate, she’d have a happy ending...
Major spoiler about Yotsuyu, i just need to get this off my chest.
This is what i think of Yotsuyu,
It is common knowledge the WOL has fell countless primals and Asahi showing up before she was about to kill herself gave her a chance to play along with him, she knew she is going to be defeated by the WOL, which will provide the opportunity for Asahi to get careless so she can kill him and get the vengeance she wanted so badly. Her acting all evil just before the last fight was just part of her self destructive plan to goat the WOL into defeating her
Yotsuyu's true nature is a kind hearted person, this is evident when she lost all her memories.
100% agreed and basically how I explained it (though not as well said here lol) to my party member who was confused about her "turning back" evil once she recovered her memories, this was an elaborate suicide characterized by how mentally shattered she became through back-to-back-to-back traumas
I don't really care for the narrative structure of SB overall but Yotsuyu always kept me hooked along
@@Kyoukami i also agree. You can tell she is kinda trying to fall back on her habits but she isnt as into it anymore. Gosetsu connected to the humanity she has willingly ignored for years

Such a bewitching and beautiful theme. Thank you for the lyrics.
Gosetsu always accepted the Kami’s will no matter what, but the one time he questioned his God was when Yorsuyu died
God damn. From the very first lines, the pain in the story is made clear
“A flower waiting to be plucked
Each petal a promise torn.”
The sheer magnitude of the betrayal in one’s own parents casting their own out to a life of effectively slavery.

I'm sorry, Yotsuyu...I know what you went through, you deserved better - your crimes, however, cannot be absolved.
Even then - may you know, and be, at peace...you deserve that much at least.
I just realized the english chorus uses Cyan's theme leitmotif
The English parts are Cyan's Theme and the Japanese parts is the music that plays in Yanxia so it's an interesting back and forth. And appropriate since this is a battle for Doma's future
Fuck, now I like this song even more.
Holy shit I never realized
@ReyJ also, assuming you finished the Omega Raids, in Sigmascape V1.0, after you finish fighting the Phantom Train, the ghosts of Cyan's wife and Son(who is also supposed to be Hien) appear and thank you for saving Doma. That was a real surprise feels out of nowhere for me.
Cyan's theme is also heard in the phase before this one, and you can also hear the famous Final Fantasy battle theme bassline throughout this.
At first I hated her, but then learning her backstory, I sympathized with her. I am glad Gosetsu showed her some compassion and kindness and gave her a chance to show she wasn’t as bad as people thought. Too bad Isahi had to destroy her chance at happiness
This was one of the best stories in the game IMO. I come back to listen to this every once in while.

I'm not sure it's fair to compare Weight of the World for FF music tho imo. You've got the whole of PervDev's music team for that xD
How dare you Square Enix make me cry for that monster after what she did... and made me mourn what she could have become instead...
I'm not going to lie: I cry every time I hear this song and think back to the extremely over-the-top tragedy that it is about. Makes it really hard not to die during the fight, too.
No i am not crying. I am just crying alot.
Gosetsu last second save its everything right, its just so friking perfect, as a mechanic and part of the story of the Yotsuyu/Tsukoyomi Fight, this game just go beyond to prove why its so amazing, thats peak Final Fantasy Story
Just completed this fantastic story arc.
I am honestly scared of shadowbringers "thanks Zev"
They say Endwalker's gonna top shadowbringers
F E A R
And it did
When we step into Dawntrail, the trials from Stormblood will be in rotation for the unreal encounter. I strongly suspect I will hear this song again much more. Not only this was a great music track, but also a complex and challenging encounter.
We, the vaunted Warrior of Light, utterly failed Yotsuyu.
More than that though, in Japanese media, the red spider lily is often used as shorthand for "Expect this character to die."
To the Edge is still my favorite song from him so far, but this is a very good contender imho.
you including asahi's death goes so hard 😭
fun fact: if you notice, when tsuyu dies, her hair is white, when it was originally black. She died, having purged herself of the malice that drove her.
Looking back at it I think this is the moment where I truly started loving FFXIV. I liked it before, but I really started appreciating the storytelling here.
Yotsuyu was why Stormblood was the best DLC.
Zenos too of course.
I only just now realized...
The female vocal line in this song is taken from the Yanxia day theme, which is called 'A Father's Pride'.
I'm sad all over again.
And the male vocal line is Cyan's theme. Despite all what happened, she was still a daughter of Doma.
I feel like the guitar in particular is screaming that it's going to rage quit from life and take me with it.
i love the male chorus so much and when gosetsu jump in to save Tsuyu, i cried
"I wonder... was the fruit as sweet as he remembered?"
The fact it’s a remix of the Othard/Doman region theme hits home hard.
the fact this contains part of the yanxia leitmotif is heartbreaking once you know the song names
Yanxia Day - A Father's Pride
Yanxia Night - A Mother's Pride
Tsukuyomi - Wayward Daughter
One of the saddest fights and one of the best themes in ff14 up to date
This song makes me emotional everytime i hear it, help
i listen to this at least once a week and cry my eyes out :)
Dude, i cried so bad in this battle.. ~_~
I love singing along to this and trying to switch between a really deep voice to a calmer, more serene one whilst switching languages at the same time.
I think something like this is all that could have happened for her. We were foolish to think she could have both redemption and absolution. The actions one takes don't just hurt and damage others, but change the self.
What an epic fight... forever my best experience in FFXIV
I always ignore the music during my first runs of these somehow, then when I do the extremes I always say "Fuck, why didn't I hear this during my first run?"
I can't wait for Gosetsu to come back in Endwalker. The absolute best character of SB.
This song and story arc are masterpieces.
Good job, another set of lyrics. Keep up the good work.
One of the few enemies I've faced that I wished they had a happier ending.
Of the bosses in StormBlood, Tsukiomi is still the one my heart breaks for. A victim of a country who knew not how to band together and help one another, crushed under the yoke of an even more oppressive region and government who's only purpose was to bring about the end. Her only choice was to either join them, or be swept along and perish after a lifetime of torment. So many feels...
Managed to cast a white mage LB3 for this in my first attempt. Everything works fine until in the last phase multiple DPS were down all of a sudden. I cast the LB3, and... I'm down instead.
Wish I could find a version of this that had the boss's voice lines included
I just beat Tsukuyomi. I think what was sad seeing the buildup of Tsuyu becoming Yotsuyu being inevitable at least i thought that way made it all the more tragic. Because i knew it wasnt gonna last but it hurt even more when everything went to shit.
When Gosetsu appears, Siege players be like Monty: “HIDE BEHIND ME”.
I wish we could have saved Tsuyu
A nightbloom shall flower here upon the site of my demise! In darkness blooms the spider lily!
