    Very close, up to personal preference.
    Digital has gotten soo good that analog may not be worth all the extra effort it takes to play it. So nice to sit back and select and play songs from a tablet.

      It’s always worth the hassle… until digital can sound better.

    I've Always believed that Digital had the potential to out perform analog. That is my own personal belief. 😊👍

      How, when the original recorded event comes from the analog real world? Use your braincells please!

    Thanks so much for the video, currently saving my pennies for some Foundation interconnects and your switch after I find a couple nickels to rub together.

    Haha, that's one of the same songs I use to test after moving things around. I would love to hear America (self titled) digital vs America analog. I have gotten so close to my really good vinyl pressing using a HANA ML vs Tidal HiRes through my R2R DAC that I really have to strain to hear a difference. I'm getting to the place where all I need the TT for anymore is albums that will never be re-released digitally and 78's that are personal family recordings.

    You have to try SACD with a good player like Esoteric!! Definitely will be an impressive comparison.

    Why use Magico speakers? Do you really find they sound the best? Always sounded uninvolving to me. I do like the test track choice! I want to come and hear this in person! Come to the CA Show please. There may still be room! haha

    It would be good to have the provenance of the tape. I mean, not all master tape dubs are the same. There are many floating out there with murky information as to their true source.

      Oswaldo Martinez for sure. The best tapes are still the best fidelity, this however is our best sounding tape and until this week, nothing could touch it on digital in our reference system. Companies like UHA and others build better sounding decks than our reference R2R, so perhaps they would outshine our digital in this system on this tape.

    I’m sorry Ted but the digital version has a harsh digital bite to it.
    The tape was so much smoother and easier to listen without cringing.
    When you added the disk, the soundstage grew deeper and the vocal sounded further back in the stage. Interesting affect.
    Need tube amplifiers to mellow out that digital bite.

      That was fast! Your post comes in 12 minutes after we posted a nearly 10 minute video. There is no digital bite in the reference system, nor do I hear that on my headphones while listening to this video. How are you listening? What I do hear is an increase in resolution on the digital playback over tape. As for digital harshness, I haven’t heard that in digital in years. If anything digital typically lacks resolution compared to the best analog, like frozen concentrate vs fresh squeezed; that’s the biggest difference these days between digital and analog. Digital harshnes, at least in an SR based system, hasn’t been a thing for over 10 years. And certainly not with the best DACs. It’s a contrast of slight digital compression which we’ve cracked vs analog’s more dimensional sound compared to digital. Harshness is a result of an improperly set up digital rig, not an inherent part of the digital format.

      *the last tape playback after I applied a Purple Carbon Tuning Disk to the lead wires coming off the tape head elevated resolution which may be the best of the three takes imo.

      @@theodorew.denneyiii2695 I was listening on a pair of apple earbuds via Bluetooth while watching UA-cam on my iPhone. I had to lower the volume on my phone as the first track hurt my ears.
      Then the tape came on and I could max the volume easily without problem.
      You added that disk and the soundstage grew and the three dimensional illusion of more space between instruments grew.

    There is no volume matching. Digital was boosted compared to analoge. Still analog sounds more relaxed and calm. Carbon disk helps bigtime for more colorful experience.

    Hahaha, I’m still laughing at the post that said there was a “harsh bite” in the Digital playback!!! I don’t know what he’s listening on but it’s not my KLH Kendall’s, driven by my Yamaha AS801 Integrated. Cause there is simply no comparison whatsoever….the Digital playback which I immediately noticed, sounded more “Live”…more “Im sitting in the room” with the band. Look the reality is, by its own physical limitations, neither analog tape or Vinyl can approach the Dynamic range or record and playback the same information as a Digital Recording. Does this mean the other mediums suck…..absolutely not!! But as one said, the pain of cleaning tape heads which I did in the late seventies and eighties, on Revox and a Nakamichi decks, along with dealing with cartridges and needles and balancing tonearms with vinyl playback, just isn’t worth it. You need to add a CD/SACD in the mix….because it still sounds just a bit better than streaming!

      @@CaptainDarrick Of course you’ll describe a more live clean sound as harsh…most vinyl lovers do all the time. Vinyl is inherently “softer”, less detailed, less “Live”. And you people who’ve invested thousands in vinyl gear can only attach themselves to the premise that “Vinyl is King”. But ask professional musicians and producers and engineers and there is no argument. As one musician said, when we play live or record, we don’t produce clicks and pops!!

    • @Csnumber1
      @Csnumber1 8 місяців тому

      @@CaptainDarrick So I’m “sad” huh?? How funny is your statement!! So people have a choice to listen to music as it would sound in real life, without pops and clicks, spending less money in the process with access to many more artist and songs, and that makes us “sad”!?? Does that go for the musicians who record digitally?? Are they sad too Captain Obvious?? I guess you still watch TV on a standard definition television too!! Hahahahaha!!!

    • @Csnumber1
      @Csnumber1 8 місяців тому

      @@CaptainDarrick Oh so now I’m a “punk” huh!!? Dude, of course we all have vinyl still in our homes!! But just because some musicians do, doesn’t mean they want to put music to vinyl for its sonics, they would do it because the profit margins are higher right now. And what is ironic is that you talk about value, when Vinyl is as expensive as it’s ever been by far! Snobbery in the world of Audiophilia is more connected to Vinyl lovers than any other…thus your quickness to call someone you don’t know a “punk”. Obviously your investment in vinyl has taut you itching about civility and respect to others who share a difference of opinion. These are several very good videos explaining the “sound” of vinyl and it’s connection with the coloration of resonances of vinyl playback. Record players all have their unique sound signatures relative to the tonearm and cartridge/stylus used. This is fact. Not once have I said Vinyl is “bad” to listen to… but it is physically limited. I retired last year from production work, where having a pair of headphones in my head was an every day thing as I filmed and editors all kinds of content including musical and theatrical performances. If my clients, every single one of them heard distortion in the Audio from either over modulation or a bad cable or a bad mic, they want it addressed, and cleaned up!! Are they punks for wanting it perfect?? Am I a punk because I make sure it’s perfect when I record it?? You see your comment only condescends yourself as to the ignorance of who you may be talking to. I’ve heard performances at the Kennedy Center, Blues Alley, Supper clubs, Bight Clubs and Street festivals and even musicians in Subway halls!! Only one place in all the music I’ve ever listened to is distortion introduced….and that’s vinyl!!! So while you say I want “perfection” no my friend…I simply want what is NORMAL…as close to what I hear in a thing called “real life”!

    Digital reproduction sounded superior, greater clarity, sound stage depth and width.
