One of the greatest drafts of all time. So many HoF and Pro Bowl players.
2011 2014 2016 2018 2021 had some talent 2012 was underrated
That was the first year I played fantasy football and I remember taking Cam Newton and Julio Jones late as nobody else trusted rookies. They carried me to second place, but it's kind of sad to think about how fast they went from rookies to basically the tail end of their careers now and then you start thinking about how old you are.
@@xraylegend2444That’s life buddy. As you age, you reflect about how fast life goes. It’s all about perspective.
@@xraylegend2444 celebrating 2nd.... lmaoooooooo
@@bigman8477 I'm not celebrating, this video just made me think of that year and I'm not going to lie about something so trivial on a youtube comment section.
If Aldon Smith wasn’t such a headcase off the field, we would currently be talking about him as a future Canton inductee.
No 🧢
💯💯💯💯
Aldon Smith is absolutely a meh not a miss
@@5552515 agreed, especially since he helped them appear in the super bowl
Instead we would still be comparing him to von miller on whose better.
Man eleven years huh. Thanks for reminding us of where these all stars came from.
Also thanks for reminding how old we are
@@djflick8631 Right... Cam can't even throw a football anymore lol
“Played his entire career as a starter for one team for 10 years.”
“MEH”
how would that make someone a hit?
@@Luke-cu7bf because he been consistent enough to be starter and the team resigns him that more of a hit then cam Newton
Newton was a multi time pro bowler, set a ton of records and spent almost a decade with Carolina.
@@maddenmoments8748 wow a guy being a franchise record holder for a shiy franchise means nothing also pro bowl is a fan thing and is fun and games and cams play style is fun to watch in reality he been one the shitiest qbs besides 2015
Also compared to the rest of the class it’s a meh. While I think they should be more consistent, this is likely the reason
the 2011 draft is one of the best of ALL TIME.
War eagle cam newton and nick Fairley
If the 2018 class keeps playing at the level they are. They’ll be better
2017 will end up being better by the time they’re all retired
@@worldline4711 nut rider
96 still the best
Cam and Von back to back
who knew they would face each other in the SB 4 years later…
Lmao the Panthers would've been better off if Cam didn't play
@@stephen2865 if cam didnt play they would have got bodied by 40
Von definitely proved he should've been picked #1.
Overall it was a good game my first super bowl
Facts like that make me think of things like that every year when I watch the draft.
I get that there are a lot of great receivers in the last ten years but I think we forget especially with last year just how insane Julio Jones was. Hall of Fame lock. He should be remembered as one of the GOATs of WRs.
imo he's the 4th best WR ever behind Moss, Rice, Owens and isn't that close
@@pigskinproductions2772 LOL you have Julio over Megatron?
Whenever Cleveland trades you their first round pick that shit is juiced to be a pro bowler
@@windalchemist1611 Julio was more productive then megaton in a much shorter span so statically Julio is better but who would you rather have is your opinion personally I’m taking Julio faster, better hands, and the highest ypc of all time he was more dominant as well only player with more than 1 250 yard games he had 3 next closest was rice with 1 he was genuinely unguarable but I think it’s a toss up with Julio or megatron at 4 or 5
@@pigskinproductions2772 Julio has some insane individual games but i disagree that he’s more consistent. Megatron alone had the record of 8 straight games with 100+ receiving yards until Thielen tied it. Julio’s max is 6
Imagine calling Nate Solder a 'Hit' and Anthony Castonzo 'Meh'.
EDIT: To clarify, they are both hits. Anybody would be very happy with a tackle of their quality in the 1st round.
Your right they should both be hits, but let's not pretend Patriots Nate Soldier is the same as Giants Nate Soldier. Nate Soldier was very good for 7 years before his tragic accident of falling off a cliff
@@cloudy8894 Agreed.
i thought the same thing! As a Pats fan too, that seems completly ridiculous.
I was thinking this to they used the same exact justifications to call solder a hit as they did for Castonzo to call him meh like what?
i guess winning SB‘s with TB12 makes the difference because the rationale used was the same. not sure how they came to that conclusion
You know the draft is stacked with hits when Jimmy Smith gets a meh. I'm bias as a Ravens fan, but the dude has been at least above average for over a decade on what is usually one of the top defenses in the league. Definitely worth the value of a late first round pick and then some
And when Aldon Smith is a “miss” when he was actually a meh
@@5552515 yeah I remember him being quite solid for the Cowboys when he came back as an OLB. Obviously the pick didn't pan out long term for SF but he was still a solid contributor
Jimmy Smith has been injured constantly though. It doesn’t matter how good you are if you are out with injury half the time.
Jimmy is an absolute hit. any first rounder that plays that long for one team and starts/makes plays year after year is a hit.
He’s absolutely a hit. A defensive starter for over 10 years in the late 1st? You couldn’t ask for much more.
A Ravens fan here - I would definitely call the Jimmy smith pick a hit. In my opinion the only ground not to call him that would be his injuries - but when he was on the field he delivered.
Agree. Jimmy playing good football for us for 10 years and only being meh? You don't have to be a Hall of Famer or MVP to be a hit
I’m a browns fan and was annoyed by jimmy smith being labeled a meh. These videos aren’t what I hoped
was looking for this comment and i’m not even a baltimore fan but smith was definitely a hit
Imagine calling Mark Ingram a "hit" and Jimmy Smith "meh."
How is Aldon Smith a miss? If anything he’s a meh. 42 sacks in 3 years is more than a lot of first rounders get in their entire career(Jadeveon Clowney still only has 41 8 years into his career, but he was a meh). I know substance abuse got the best of him, but he was a hit until his wacky weed problems.
They not ready for that convo
I mean you do realize that he only played for his rookie contract and then the substance abuse so 3 year's that's it out of a possible 10 so he is a miss @flirkin1
Cuz he tried to kill someone. He was a bad choice to draft period.
Because they grade the pick not the player
Why don’t people get that?
Aldon does not deserve to be a miss. You can’t call someone that had 42 sacks in 3 seasons a miss.
He should be a meh at the very least because his own personal demons derailed the start of a HOF level career.
I just commented under another comment about him and it's the same thought with me.. at one point in San Francisco he was UNBLOCKABLE whipping tackles asses left and right
He was absolutely phenomenal, but you don't draft a guy 7th overall just to play 3 seasons. It doesn't matter what he does in that time
@@brocksells197 mattered for Sean taylor, obviously different circumstances but being a great for even 3 years is very good, shazeir only played a handful of seasons aswell and he's good imo
@@nikninja2233 Sean Taylor was murdered and Shazier had a freak injury. Totally different from Aldon Smith who was brought down by bad decisions.
@@UnkownSoldier100 I said it was different circumstances, I understand that, but an amazing start is an amazing start
The craziest part about this draft is that the Jets were selecting 30th 🤯
Back to back afc champ appearances in 09 and 10
@@JD-ib9zd sadly they have not done anything since and we currently have the longest playoff drought
@@Blowyourspot747 that’s right!
@@Blowyourspot747 you got your wish. Jets are one of the best teams in the league rn
@@kimyona9746 aged like milk in the sun
Wow! That's a seriously impressive first round in 2011. So many good names! Thank you NFL Throwback.
This draft has at least 8 players who are HOF bound or have a strong case for the HOF (Von Miller, JJ Watt, Julio Jones, Tyron Smith, Cameron Jordan, Richard Sherman, Jason Kelce, Patrick Peterson, Cameron Hayward).
That alone makes this draft one of the best ever.
Sherman was likely the steal of the draft. 154th pick in the 5th round - how many busts selected prior to Sherman? Unbelievable. Given the success and profile of his Stanford program you would've thought he be selected higher. Good job by Frisco.
Mike Pouncey?
@@RockWithYu Tyrod Taylor & Jason Kelce were the steals of the draft!!
@@legendarylboy3153 Pouncey is very good. He’s a 4 Time Pro Bowler but he has no All-Pros to his name.
@@legendarylboy3153 They're good but neither enjoyed Sherman's renown.
What an amazing draft.
One of the best drafts of all time. Multiple future hall of famers.
According to NFL throwback, Nate Solder was better than Anthony Castanzo
Aldon smith was a key piece on a talented defense, 42 sacks in 3 years makes calling him a miss a joke
Well, he smoked weed and weed bad so no hit for Smith, NFL very strict bout weed.
That 1st round was insane, don’t get me started on the later rounds. This is the one of best class of all time. Fr I remember watching this draft on the summer of me entering middle school
Oh cool, the first pick was Cam Newton and the second pick was his father! The NFL truly brings families together.
Huh newton and miller
@@Ynkno he’s talking about super bowl 50 where the panthers got stomped
Fraudulent ass ring
It’s crazy how many hall of fame caliber players there were in this this draft. And it’s even crazier that aldon smith was the most talented
Hmmm 🤔
He wasn’t
@@arabianprinceflyeaglesfly1700 He was he just had some off the field issues.
@@hulkson8839 he was talented but saying he was the most talented with all these hall of famers from this class is a crazy statement
Von was probably the better prospect julio/jj were debatable aldon is easily a fair pick
This class was fully loaded bruh 🥵🔥
Nick Fairley had Warren Sapp potential
I love how Derek Sherrod's first "highlight" is literally a false start lol
Jimmy Smith, Anthony Castonzo should be hits maybe even Marcell dareus and aldon smith should at least be a meh
When I heard Mayock say Gabbert had “Sam Bradford like physical tools” I could not help but laugh
Lolol. You gotta remember though this was I think the same year where Bradford had just won ROY. He looked like a star in the making at the time
Why does nate solder get a hit for being a ten year starter but Anthony castanzo doesnt?
cause Nate was on the patriots and won rings while Castanzo didn't. Stupid mindset of this guy
Bro Castanzo is a hit. He was underrated asf.
Right? He's a Meh, but Solder is a Hit? That makes no sense. Solder looked like shit once the Patriots let him go to the Giants. Castonzo was an above average LT for his whole career. Can't expect more than that out of a late 1st round pick.
PFF has Solder graded higher than Castonzo in only 2 seasons from 2011 to 2019...and 1 of those 2 seasons was higher by like 0.3. Castonzo was better than Solder. Solder just got to play with Brady and Bill, that's all.
Facts
Im seriously loving this segment. More of these! More : )
CASTONZO IS A HIT
I keep forgetting that Julio had those long dreads in his rookie season.
ALDON SMITH WAS A HIT. I KNOW HE COULDNT STAY ON THE FIELD, BUT HE WAS A HUGE PART OF MULTIPLE DEEP PLAYOFF RUNS AND A NFC CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON.
I ain't even gonna lie bro at one point in San Fran I literally thought that that boy was unblockable..
He should be a meh absolutely not a miss
Yep!
A generational draft looking back on it with this vid, wow
One of the best drafts ever the first one I watched
So I guess 2011 was a good year, most of the guys who didn't work out was because of injuries
Jeeze, what an All-Time great draft. Every other pick is a Hall of Famer pick.
I remember being so hyped for this draft. I was in 7th grade at the time and I would literally watch highlights of damn near every single potential first round pick and I even heavily watched the 2011 combine. I just had a feeling it would be a great first round class and I was actually right! 🔥😂
I would still call Aldon "meh" maybe even still call him a hit. He was the best pass rusher in the NFL and arguably the best defensive player in 2012.
@Fries I know his off field issues cost him his career, but im not sure that could be reason to give the team a "bust" or "meh" grade. I mean he had 33.5 sacks in his first 32 games. It wasn't like he was injury prone and he got a full 4 years in. calling him a bust is blasphemous
Daquan bowers had alot of hype
You can’t give the 49ers a “miss” for Aldon Smith. All of his issues were not production based, but off the field issues that the 49ers or any other team couldn’t really have predicted. When he was on the field he was one of the best d lineman in the league. Definitely not a miss
Crazy how shitty the QB class was yet this draft is one of the best ever because of the quality and depth of the players at all the other positions.
I'd say Dareus, Wilkerson, and Smith all deserve to be hits. Yeah, they all dealt with either injuries or off field issues, but in their primes they were unstoppable
Still shocked at how many of these great players were drafted side by side
Man, what a stacked draft class. Look at the rushers alone. Ryan K, J.J, Von, Quinn, Cameron Jordan, Wilkerson, and Heyward
This was my first draft I got into. My first year being a bengals fan also. The fact I got to see both green and Dalton from the start to the end was amazing while also heart breaking during playoffs.
This was a good vid nice work
I get he didn’t get many accolades, but how is a 10 year starter at tackle not a hit? Do you know how many teams hope for something like that when they draft a lineman?
He's been terrible for the Giants and being a starter on that god-awful O line is not an accomplishment
Cause he's not. That's why.
Jimmu smith is a hit!!!! If mark ingram is so is jimmy
He is the ALL time leader rusher in NO history
How do you give Jimmy Smith a meh for being the Ravens starting corner for 11 seasons?
Damn, as a Niners fan, seeing Aldon Smith breaks me. He had such a promising NFL career but he just couldn’t stay out of trouble. Such a shame.
Defensive player: *runs, tackles someone*
Announcers: "lemme tell ya. Drive. Motor. Power. This kids got it all. Absolute beast. He can run a whole city with that energy."

Bro, this draft class was so loaded that I speculate these guys were around longer than 2011.
Such a deep and talented draft year that changed the NFL
I’m glad von single-handedly won my Broncos a SB
A good amount, of Hall of Famers in this draft.
Cam Newton isn’t one of them
War eagle
@@richpirhana9521 he’s borderline, just needs about 2-3 solid season and probably a SB ring

So, I had the Madden with this rookie class. It was the only Madden that I owned for a long time, I have a soft spot for these guys.
Remember creating a team and tearing it up in Franchise with my all-rookie squad
Kind of reminds me of this year's class. Bad QBs (besides came) but pro-bowlers and all-pros everywhere else, especially at DE and Edge Rusher.
@@Flirken1 he is a hof QB lmao but he isn't good you know nothing about football
@@fishii4588 newton isn’t a HOF QB
@@Flirken1 so lamar Jackson isnt a good qb because he runs thats the reason cam and lamar are so dominant because of there impact running the ball and catching the defense on there toes and thats why i think cam is a hof qb the most qb tds in nfl history and a sb appearance with a below avg offense
@@Flirken1 if you noticed cam newtons best receiver in his prime was either his 1 time 1000+ yard receiver kelvin benjamin or greg olsen you think he wouldve ran as much if he had a great receiver same thing with lamar obviously they wouldve still ran a decent bit with a talented wr but it wouldve been way easier for them to play better in the playoffs when they are banged up after a long season of running an draws and scrambling out the pocket

Lots of great talent in this draft but man Nick Farley was a bust
This draft had so many hits arguably the greatest draft of all time
Just found this channel so much good content!

I’m convinced many of these picks were made “meh” just because of comparison with other guys.
“Oh he was a stalwart on a team for a decade? Meh”.
That happened at least a few times
Yeah I agree. Teams are not gonna hold on to a cornerback as a starter for 10 years if they’re not at least above average
My graduation year, Von the best player from this draft.
NFL Throwback this is a GEM!
I'll die on this hill: not only was aj green the superior draft prospect and right pick for the Bengals ahead of Julio, he was also the better receiver of the 2 through 2016. He didn't play indoors on a fast surface for half the season and had a far inferior QB hence the modest statistical difference between him and Julio during that time span. Green was more sudden and polished, and would have posted insane statistics in those seasons had he been in Julio's spot.
Castonzo was a hit most underrated tackle in the league
This was one of the greatest classes ever. A lot of my favorite players came from this class.
Like to see alot more of these. This is the juice
Man, this draft was ELEVEN years ago. Doesn’t seem right.
As an Eagles fan, I feel like this year’s miss really stings- it could’ve changed the dynamic of that year.
I’m happy Watkins found his true calling as a Fireman, though.
please keep these coming
This was such a stacked draft class😂
So goated as always
The Pouncey Brothers are two of the best Centers in NFL history. Too bad OLinemen are constantly overlooked.
It’s crazy to think this draft is so good that drafting a a player that is a starter for a decade or more is considered meh
Excellent draft overall. So many great players.
Cam Jordan and von Miller still ballin at a high level
Julio my favorite Falcon.
But this draft class was SO good.
I'm so happy Von Miller is now a Buffalo Bill
An all time great draft class
All of the top 7 (and 9 of the top 11) picks in this draft have had at least one All-Pro season? That’s insane.
Nearly half the first round were hits. One of the best classes ever.
This was 👍 🙏 for the 📷 this is why I subscribed to this!
I'd give Adrian Clayborn a Meh instead of a miss. He was always serviceable and played well. Injuries got him.
How is Catonzo not a "Hit?" He was a good to very good starting LT for a decade. He singlehandedly carried the Colts O-line until they drafted Ryan Kelly, Quinton Nelson and Brandon Smith
Don’t think you can call Aldon Smith a miss even with the suspensions, what he did his first few seasons was truly insane
that poster of julio against Luke will forever be one of my favorite moments as a falcons fan.
As a cardinals fan want to thank you Patrick Peterson 🙏 still remember his returns for td his rookie year
Pro bowl selections are not that big a deal anymore unless you're the initial Pro bowl selection. All pros matter way more. Would be nice if that qualification could be made.
Nah but this edge class was mind boggling
- jj watt (first ballot hof)
- von miller (first ballot hof)
- Cameron Hayward (trending towards being a hall of famer)
- Cameron jordan (fringe hof)
- Aldon smith ( a head case that would’ve walked into the hall of fame)
- Robert Quinn
- Ryan Kerrigan
- Justin Houston
All absolute monsters that will likely be lost to the sans of time due to bad luck with accolades
Yup
One of the greatest draft classes of all time ,if not the best
